Chapter 16
Alexandria, Australia
Cadence was shipped to Australia by plane and put on a bus to woman's prison. Wentworth prison to be exact.
Cadence was shown her new uniform. White shirt, teal pants and teal jacket. She was lead by some correctional officers to H-block.
"This will be your sleeping quarters. 6am, breakfast, 12pm, lunch – 5pm dinner. We have cell count around 9pm before lights out at 10 and cell count 6am before brekkie."
Brekkie? What was this place? Could be hell on earth.
Cadence got a pat down and changed into her new uniform. Other girls were hollering and carrying on, because she was a new piece of meat.
"Don't worry about them. They're pigs. Name's Franky." She got up from the cot she had been sitting on. "Seems we are cell mates. What's your name, newbie?"
"Cadence."
"Cadence. Nice to meet you. What brings you to women's prison? You don't seem to be from around here."
"Wrongly accused of homicide."
"How old are you, anyway?"
"12."
"Wow, that's messed up that a 12-year-old is in women's prison. What crime did you get blamed for?"
"Killing my own father."
"Holy... that's messed up. You butchered your father?" Franky laughs for a brief moment, because she saw Cadence's face.
"I did not kill my father. I didn't really know him. He was never around. Then suddenly mom acted different. She packed me up and we left."
"Did he want custody of you?"
"I don't know. My mom never said. She said he was a bum and a ninny, whatever that is."
"That's a nitwit, or what we here like to call an ass. You don't deserve him as a dad if he never treated you as such."
"So, um, how strict is it here?"
"Don't worry. Stick with me, and you get all the greatest contraband. I'm the top dog here at Wentworth prison."
Top dog. That was promising.
"I protect my own. And since you bunk with me, I take care of you and I make sure no one bothers you, newbie."
Cadence loved the sound of that, but she also knew what she was capable of when no one else did. Especially at Wentworth prison.
