Chapter 45: CatNap Vs Lenny LemurLaugh: A Duel Of Comedy Tragedy
With KickinChicken rescuing Hoppy was a success, CatNap meanwhile was on his to rescue DogDay at an abandoned laboratory. He was rushing while riding on his bicycle to the location of the abandoned laboratory Bubba sent out to him.
When he finally made it, CatNap was out of breath from all of that pedaling.
"Damn it…" He said, "...Still worth it though."
CatNap got out of his bicycle, got his Duel Disk in his wrists and looked up at the abandoned laboratory.
"Seems empty and abandoned enough." He said, "But… Why are the lights still on? Weird."
CatNap then went to the front doors, took a deep breath and entered.
"Don't worry, DogDay." He said, "I'm almost there to save you."
CatNap then went inside the abandoned laboratory. It seems normal, except for old floors, walls and ceilings and some cracked windows here and there. The lights were also on, surprisingly.
"Huh, still normal, except slowly decaying." He said, "Now, where is–"
Then, he heard someone mumbling as loud as they could.
"Where is that coming from?" He said, surprised,
CatNap then saw an opened door to a small lab room, which is where the sound of loud mumbling comes from. He went to the door to open it and saw to his surprise that his teacher, Mr. Wolfgang had his mouth covered by tape and was rope tied to a chair.
"Mr. Wolfgang!" He shouted as he went over to free him by untying the ropes,
Mr. Wolfgang got up and took the tape off of his mouth.
"Ahhh, thank you, CatNap." He said,
"Why are you here?!" CatNap said, "Were you kidnapped?!"
"I was."
"Why?"
"Yesterday I was sleeping, but this time my dream was real and connected to the real world, from GuardianDove."
"GuardianDove? Didn't he help Bobby?"
"I don't know, but I dueled him because I was lost in thoughts from those masked critters…"
"Did you win?"
"Of course I did. Then, he told me something that's gonna happen, which might have already happened today."
"And that is?"
"DogDay and Hoppy will be kidnapped by two different groups of masked critters."
CatNap was surprised.
"Wh-What?! Hoppy was kidnapped too?!" He shouted,
"I suppose so." Mr. Wolfgang replied, "That's all I ever got from him."
"My bicycle is outside. Go ride back to Bubba's and tell him everything!"
"I don't even know where he would be…"
"It has a flag of a palm tree!"
"Do you have a helmet?"
"No, I didn't! Just hurry up and go! I'm gonna save DogDay, alone."
"O-Ok, CatNap, but before I go. Here."
Mr. Wolfgang then gives CatNap a card.
"Tri-Brigade Mercourier?" CatNap wondered,
"I couldn't find any usage for that card in my deck, however It might be useful with that Albaz card of your's." Mr. Wolfgang said, "You're gonna have to figure that out on your own."
"Thanks, Mr. Wolfgang. Stay safe when you pedal back."
"I will, and good luck, CatNap."
Mr. Wolfgang then left the abandoned laboratory as he went on CatNap's bicycle and rode off. CatNap meanwhile was still inside the abandoned laboratory to find DogDay. Then, he heard a laugh.
"So, the brave hero himself, CatNap, is on his way to save his Prince DogDay from an evil mad scientist!" a voice said,
CatNap had a bored look on his face.
"Yeah, very funny." He said, "We're not that kind of pair, by the way, so why don't you do me a favor and come out to show yourself?"
"Oh?" The voice said, "Our hero is already stubborn from the narrator's voice? Well, talking about… talking about… what's that thing called? Oh yes! Breaking the 4th wall!"
"Just hurry up and show yourself, damn it! I need to save my best friend!"
A lemur critter in a jester bodysuit appeared out of magical shadows while laughing menacingly. He was wearing a charm of one half of a comedy mask.
"I am Lenny LemurLaugh." He said, "The supposed narrator to your doom!"
"...Yawn." CatNap said, "Hey, can you set aside? I'm saving my friend."
Lenny laughed like a mad scientist.
"If you want to continue your journey on saving your precious DogDay, you're gonna have to beat me in a duel!" He shouted as his Duel Disk appeared on his wrist from magical shadows and activates it,
"What the hell was that?" CatNap said, surprised, "Do you have black magic of some sort?"
"Oh? Well, it's a long story."
"Don't tell me right away! Because I'm gonna accept your offer to duel!"
CatNap activated his Duel Disk as well.
"No Dueling Field? No problem!" Lenny said, "Because we'll be playing a Shadow Game!"
"Shadow Game?" CatNap wondered,
"Our game where if our opponent loses, then they must join us!"
"Well, I'm not gonna join!"
"Better beat me if you don't want to! Now, let the curtains rise and begin our scene!"
"...Whatever."
"DUEL!" Both CatNap and Lenny shouted as the Duel started,
Turn 1. Lenny went first as he looked at his hand of 5 cards and giggled.
"This is already perfect." He said,
"Oh boy, I wonder where this duel is going…" CatNap wondered, sarcastically,
"To open the 1st act of our show-stopping duel together, I activate the Field Spell known as, Despia, Theater Of The Branded!"
Lenny then played the Field Spell, Despia, Theater Of The Branded. CatNap then noticed a word he had heard.
"Branded…" He wondered, but this time, seriously, "Where is this going?"
"Now here's a fun effect for ya with this Field Spell in play." Lenny said, "Once per turn, during my Main Phase, I can Fusion Summon a Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster by using monsters from my hand or field as materials! So, to help this big monster take the spotlight, I'll send Aluber The Jester Of Despia and Ad Libitum Of Despia from my Hand as Fusion Materials!"
"Despia…" CatNap said, concerned, "Again, where is this going?
Lenny then sends his materials needed to the Graveyard for his first Fusion Summon.
"Take the spotlight under a branded path of comedy and tragedy!" Lenny chanted, "Fusion Summon!"
A giant wand-like weapon appeared out of fallen light.
"Now open the act of the apocalypse, Level 8, Despian Quaeritis!" Lenny shouted,
Despian Quaeritis was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 2500 ATK Points.
"Those cards…" CatNap said, "Are they… related?"
"Oh? Curious about my cards and their story?" Lenny wondered, "Hold your applause and opinions later, because I'm still on my turn!"
From the Graveyard, Lenny showed one of the Fusion Materials used for the Fusion Summon of Despian Quaeritis.
"And now, for Ad Libitum Of Despia's effect!" He said, "When he's sent from the field or hand to the Graveyard or banished from the field or hand as Fusion Material, I can Special Summon one of my other Despia monsters banished or in my Graveyard back to my field! So taking the stage…"
Lenny then brought back the other monster in the Graveyard used for Despian Quaeritis's Fusion Summon and Special Summons it in Attack Position with 1800 ATK Points.
"It's Aluber The Jester Of Despia!" Lenny shouted, "And upon being Normal or Special Summoned, I can add a Branded Spell or Trap from my Deck to my Hand!"
"I knew it!" CatNap said, "Your Despia cards are connected to one of my monsters!"
"Really? Who?"
"Fallen Of Albaz."
"Hmmm… Yes, I don't have that Fallen Of Albaz card. Perhaps I could not only win you over to our side, but also your Fallen Of Albaz."
"...And if I win, then I'm taking your Despia cards with me."
Lenny laughed a bit.
"Oh, stealing from me as always!" He said as he grew serious, "Just like how they stole my life…"
"Huh?" CatNap wondered,
"Don't worry, but yeah, a deal's a deal. Anyways, back to this duel! I search for a Branded Spell or Trap through Aluber's effect!"
Lenny then searches for the Quick-Play Spell, Branded In Red and reveals it to CatNap.
"And that will be the Quick-Play Spell, Branded In Red!" He said, "Which I can activate right now!"
Lenny then activates Branded In Red.
"This lets me target a Despia monster in my Graveyard for me to add back to my hand!" He said, "And I'll be adding Ad Libitum Of Despia back to my hand!"
As he does so, Lenny smirks.
"And then I can activate another effect of Branded In Red." He said, "And that's being able to Fusion Summon another Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster, only this time I can banish my materials from my hand or field!"
"Another Fusion Summon, huh?" CatNap wondered,
"Oh yes! So right now, I'm banishing my Aluber on my field and my Ad Libitum from my hand for another Fusion Summon!"
The mask of Aluber slowly turns him into a dragon from the Fusion Summon happening between him and Ad Libitum Of Despia.
"Brand yourself into a dragon, surrounded by the blazing flames that continue the act of the apocalypse!" Lenny chanted, "Fusion Summon!"
A dragon then fully emerges from the blazing flames.
"Now, take the spotlight to their demise, Level 8, Masquerade The Blazing Dragon!" Lenny shouted,
Masquerade The Blazing Dragon was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 2500 ATK Points.
"Now, I'll set this card face-down." Lenny said as he does so in the Spell Trap Zone, "And end my turn. It's your turn, brave hero."
"Ok, here I go!" CatNap said as he drew to start Turn 2 and looked at the card he drew, "Huh, ok then…"
CatNap looked at Lenny's two monsters and his set card.
"Their effects are obviously gonna be a problem for me." He said, "Same for that face-down card of his. Whatever I do will benefit the outcome of this duel, and for DogDay's sake."
CatNap then puts the card he drew in his hand and then activates a Spell Card.
"I'll start by activating the Spell Card, Galaxy Cyclone!" He said, "This lets me–"
CatNap then took 600 points of damage before even activating, leaving him with 3400 Life Points left.
"Wh-What the hell just happened?!" He said, "Why did I take damage?!"
Lenny chuckled.
"Oh my, it looks like our hero was involved in a… what are they called?" He said, "Oh yes, a plot twist! And it's all thanks to one of my two stars on the field, Masquerade The Blazing Dragon!"
CatNap sighed in annoyance.
"Great." He said, "What does Masquerade do?"
"While I control this Fusion Summoned monster, you must pay 600 Life Points to activate cards or effects!" Lenny replied,
CatNap sighed again.
"Well, this is a problem." He said,
"Good, glad you're not making me, the narrator, a problem." Lenny said with a sudden change in emotion,
"Are you ok?"
"Ok? You think I'm ok? Of course I'm ok!"
"Out of nowhere."
Lenny chuckled a bit, somewhat menacing yet very soft.
"I always wanted to be an actor." He said, "Maybe a comedian as well, but my deadbeat parents thought it was a good idea that I would be a jester for their circus instead. They treated me poorly, exploited me for money. I didn't take that well. My friends, the leader behind The Hour Of Joy and the mad scientist, gave me the power to kill them…"
CatNap was silent. He didn't know what to say.
"And now here I am, one of the three pioneers of The Hour Of Joy." Lenny continued, "My charm used to be full, until broken in half from an unfortunate accident that my parents never bothered to help me from. And you know what they say? Karma bites back."
CatNap was surprised.
"Karma, huh?" He said, "Yeah, I guess I know what it's like to give someone karma for what they did that ruins you, but that doesn't excuse you from being part of whatever it is you're about to do us and DogDay."
"Oh, come on, it should excuse me when I beat you!" Lenny said, "Now, are you gonna continue? You paid 600 Life Points to activate Galaxy Cyclone's effect through my Masquerade!"
"Right! Since I did so, I'll destroy that face-down card of your's!"
Galaxy Cyclone then destroyed Lenny's face-down card, being the Trap Card, Branded Banishment.
"Damn it.'" Lenny said,
CatNap then looked at his hand again.
"Ok, so his Masquerade forces me to pay 600 to activate cards and effects, huh?" He wondered, "I gotta find a way through this."
CatNap then sets 2 cards face-down in the Spell and Trap Zone.
"I set 2 and pass the turn to you." He said to Lenny,
"Very well, I draw!" Lenny said as he draws to start Turn 3,
Turn 3.
CatNap: 3400
Lenny LemurLaugh: 4000
"Well, this duel will end quickly!" Lenny said, "Because it's time for battle!"
The Battle Phase started.
"And before I attack you with my monsters, I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Anti-Magic Arrows!" Lenny shouted,
Anti-Magic Arrows was then activated.
"Shit!" CatNap shouted,
"That's right, for the rest of this turn after I activated this card, Spells And Traps cannot be activated!" Lenny shouted, "It's over for you, CatNap! Time for you to join the darkside with your best friend, DogDay! And I'll start by having Despian Quaeritis attack you directly with Despian Demise!"
Despian Quaeritis then raised its giant staff as it went for an attack.
"You may have negated all Spells and Traps, but you haven't negated monster effects!" CatNap shouted, "Because from my hand, I'll pay 600 through your Masquerade's effect to Special Summon this card in Defense Position!"
CatNap paid 600 Life Points to Special Summon a monster known as Battle Fader in Defense Position with 0 DEF Points.
"And that monster is Battle Fader!" He shouted, "And since I Special Summoned it that way, I can end your Battle Phase right now! This duel is far from over!"
"Oh-ho! Curious about the 2nd act of the apocalypse, huh?!" Lenny said as he set his last card in the Spell And Trap Zone from his hand, "Very well, I set one and I will end my turn!"
CatNap draws to start Turn 4.
Turn 4.
CatNap: 2800
Lenny LemurLaugh: 4000
CatNap looked at the card he drew, being Tri-Brigade Mercourier, the same card Mr. Wolfgang gave him earlier.
"Well there's the card that Mr. Wolfgang has given me." He said, "And he said it's related to Albaz, huh? I need to find a way to use it. But first, I gotta get rid of Lenny's offense."
CatNap then puts Mercourier in his hand and puts one of his arms out.
"By giving up 600 more of my Life Points through your Masquerade's effect, I'll activate one of my face-down cards!" He shouted as his Life Points were now down to 2200,
One of CatNap's face-down cards was revealed to be a Quick-Play Spell known as Super Polymerization.
"And that's the Quick-Play Spell known as Super Polymerization!" He shouted,
"N-No way!" Lenny shouted,
"Yes way!"
CatNap then discarded Fallen Of Albaz.
"And by discarding Fallen Of Albaz, I can Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster by using monsters from either field as materials!" He shouted as he pointed at Masquerade The Blazing Dragon, "Your Masquerade The Blazing Dragon is a Dark Fiend monster, the same goes for my Battle Fader! So this Fusion Summon will require two monsters with the same type and attribute, but different names!"
"No!" Lenny shouted, "Without my Masquerade, you're now able to activate cards without worrying about paying Life Points!"
"Correct! Because Super Polymerization will now begin the Fusion Summon!"
A powerful Fusion has started to form as Battle Fader and Masquerade The Blazing Dragon were used as Fusion Materials.
"I Fusion Summon, Level 6, Garura, Wings Of Resonant Life!" CatNap shouted,
The Level 6 Fusion Monster, Garura, Wings Of Resonant Life, was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 1500 ATK Points.
"And here's a fun effect, any battle damage you take involving battles from this monster is doubled!" CatNap shouted,
"Hey! That's not fair!" Lenny shouted,
"Fair to me!"
Lenny groaned.
"Now that Masquerade is out of the way, I activate the effect of Galaxy Cyclone from my Graveyard!" CatNap said,
"Huh?!" Lenny said,
"That's right, by banishing it, I can destroy a face-up Spell or Trap you control, so you won't be Fusion Summoning anymore when I'm destroying your Field Spell!"
Despia, Theater Of The Branded was destroyed under Galaxy Cyclone's effect.
"My Field Spell!" Lenny said, "Damn you!"
"I'm not done yet! I'm about to get rid of your Quaeritis as well!" CatNap shouted,
"How will you do that?!"
"I reveal my other face-down card, the Continuous Trap, Call Of The Haunted!"
Call Of The Haunted was activated.
"This lets me Special Summon a monster from my Graveyard back to my field in Attack Position!" CatNap shouted, "So come back, Fallen Of Albaz!"
Fallen Of Albaz was Special Summoned in Attack Position with 1800 ATK Points through Call Of The Haunted's effect.
"And now for Albaz's effect!" CatNap shouted as he discarded another monster, being Chaos Dragon Levianeer, "By discarding 1 card, I can Fusion Summon a monster by using monsters from either field as materials! So I'm using my Albaz and your Despian Quaeritis as Fusion Materials!"
"Not again!" Lenny shouted,
Another Fusion Summon has started, but this time with Fallen Of Albaz and Despian Quaeritis through Albaz's effect.
"Roar with icy blades that will skewer the branded!" CatNap chanted, "Fusion Summon!"
A familiar Fusion Monster has appeared.
"Now be reborn, Level 8, Mirrorjade The Iceblade Dragon!" CatNap shouted,
Mirrorjade The Iceblade Dragon was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 3000 ATK Points.
"It's over." CatNap said,
"Not yet!" Lenny shouted, "You may have brought out your offense, but I'm about to stop you in your tracks! Yes, I too have a Call Of The Haunted for me to activate!"
Lenny's own Call Of The Haunted was activated.
"This lets me bring back one of my own monsters from the Graveyard to Special Summon in Attack Position!" Lenny shouted, "So I'll be bringing back Despian Quaeritis that you used to bring out your Mirrorjade!"
Despian Quaeritis was brought back from the Graveyard through Call Of The Haunted's effect.
"And now for the first part of the grand finale, Despian Quaeritis's effect!" Lenny shouted, "And that's changing the ATK Points of all monsters on the field except Level 8 or higher Fusion Monsters, to 0!"
"There won't be a grand finale!" CatNap said,
"What are you talking about?!"
CatNap looked at the only card he had in his hand.
"I activate the effect of this card from my hand." He said as he revealed it, "Tri-Brigade Mercourier!"
"What now?!" Lenny shouted,
CatNap discarded Tri-Brigade Mercourier to the Graveyard.
"By discarding this card, I can negate the effects of a monster that's activating while I control a Fusion Monster that mentions Fallen Of Albaz as material." CatNap said as Tri-Brigade Mercourier appeared next to him, "So your Despian Quaeritis's effect will be negated!"
"No!" Lenny shouted,
"But wait, there's more! I activate Mirrorjade's effect as well! By sending a Fusion Monster that mentions Fallen Of Albaz as material from my Extra Deck to the Graveyard, I can also banish your Despian Quaeritis!"
"Impossible!"
"Unfortunately, I too, have a grand finale, and it's set for you!"
Mirrorjade then roared to banish Despian Quaeritis while at the same time, Tri-Brigade Mercourier then flew towards Despian Quaeritis and exploded on impact, negating its effect while being banished.
"You gotta be kidding me!" Lenny shouted, "No! I'm wide open!"
"Indeed you are!" CatNap said, "Because it's time for battle! And you know what they do say? Karma does indeed bite back! For you!"
The Battle Phase started again.
"Garura, Mirrorjade, attack Lenny directly and end this duel!" CatNap shouted, "Double Windstorm and Branded Ice Blades!"
Garura and Mirrorjade then attacked Lenny with what they got on him, dealing a lot of damage to his Life Points, draining them to 0. CatNap has won the duel. Lenny was then on the ground from two devastating attacks dealt to him.
"There, I won." CatNap said as he went over to Lenny, "Now, I can go see your mad scientist friend and save DogDay. But first, I kept my promise."
CatNap then reaches over to obtain most of Lenny's Deck and Extra Deck, being his Branded Despia cards.
"Hey!" Lenny shouted, "Those are mine!"
"Not anymore." CatNap said, "We made a deal, remember?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot."
"Well now you do. Don't even think about stopping me."
CatNap then walked away with the cards he rightfully got from Lenny. Lenny then slowly got up and smiled while slowly disappearing from his shadows.
"You don't know what you're about to be into, CatNap." He said, "You may have won this scene, but this next act to the apocalypse has only just begun!"
Lenny laughed like a maniac as he disappeared completely into the shadows.
