After snagging Furret from Cail, Wes and Rui have returned to Pyrite Town's battle square to snag some more Shadow Pokémon. They learned that Miror B was sending them out from the colosseum to the winner of a competition. Wes knew it didn't seem right when it happened, but he knew it wouldn't stand at all.
"Rui, you said the Trainers here had a 'Shadow Pokémon', is that right?" Wes asked.
"Yes. They must have taken part of it and won the tournaments from the colosseum and gotten one just like Cail did," Rui said.
"Well, these Trainers won't have those Shadow Pokémon for long," Wes said. Rui nodded with agreement as he stepped on the square. They're spotted by a boy.
"Hey, you here for a battle?" The boy asked.
"Just thought I'd have a warm-up before I decide to take on the colosseum," Wes said. The boy laughed.
"You're either brave or just crazy to think you're going to win against me!" The boy said, taking out two Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Shuckle and Tyrogue!" His Pokéballs opened and Shuckle and Tyrogue both came out to battle. Rui saw Shuckle's a Shadow Pokémon.
"Wes, it's Shuckle," Rui said.
"Okay, and I know just the ones," Wes said, taking out two of his Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Croconaw and Furret!" His Pokéballs opened and came out to battle.
"Shuckle! Use Shadow Blitz! Tyrogue! Use Rock Smash!" The boy ordered. Tyrogue charged at Furret as Shuckle came at Croconaw. Shadow Blitz struck Croconaw, but didn't do too much damage on it.
"Croconaw! Shadow Blitz! Furret! Use Shadow Rave!" Wes ordered. Croconaw came at Tyrogue with a Shadow Blitz and struck Tyrogue hard. Furret unleashed Shadow Rave and struck Shuckle and Tyrogue. Shadow Rave didn't do too much damage. Croconaw seemed less aggressive than it was before, so Wes figured Croconaw was opening up. But Furret was just starting to open the door to its heart.
"Shuckle! Use Shadow Wave! Tyrogue! Use Headbutt!" The boy ordered. Shuckle fired a dark wave right at the two Shadow Pokémon, but it deals little damage. Furret's emotions got the best of it.
"Furret!" Wes called out. Furret then calmed down. Wes just grinned. "Croconaw! Use Bite!" Croconaw heads right for Shuckle and bit Shuckle. "Furret! Use Shadow Down!" Furret unleashed a dark aura, surrounding Shuckle and Tyrogue. It lowered their defenses. "Croconaw! Use Shadow Rush on Tyrogue!" Furret! Use Shadow Rave!" Croconaw charged at Tyrogue with a Shadow Rush and lands a hit. Furret unleashed Shadow Rave, hitting both opposing Pokémon. Tyrogue was knocked out, but Shuckle was still standing. Wes took out a Pokéball, converted it into a Snag Ball. He threw it right at Shuckle, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off. He was asked if he wanted to keep Shuckle with him, but he chose to send it to his ride.
"No way! You just snagged my Shuckle!" The boy exclaimed.
"You'll thank me," Wes said. The boy ran off.
"Wes, how did you know Croconaw was able to use Bite?" Rui asked.
"Well, I remembered what you said about Pokémon opening the doors to their hearts, so I thought Croconaw started to remember how to use a non Shadow move. The same can be said for Makuhita, Quilava, and Bayleef," Wes said.
They were approached by a large muscular man.
"Hey, you itching for a battle?" The muscular man asked.
"Show me what you've got," Wes dared his opponent.
"Okay, ya asked for it!" The muscular man said, taking out two Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Togetic and Machop!" His two Pokéballs opened and Togetic and Machop emerged from inside. Rui saw the black aura from Togetic.
"Wes! That Togetic is a Shadow Pokémon!" Rui said.
"On it!" Wes said, understanding. He took out his two Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Espeon and Bayleef!" His Pokéballs opened and Espeon and Bayleef emerged from inside. "Bayleef! Use Shadow Blitz! Espeon! Use Psybeam!" Bayleef rushed at Machop and lands a hit on the Superpower Pokemon. Espeon fired Psybeam, hitting Togetic hard. "Bayleef! Razor Leaf!" Bayleef unleashed Razor Leaf and struck both Tohetic and Machop, dealing some heavy damage.
"Togetic! Use Shadow Sky!" The muscular man ordered. Togetic hurls a ball of darkness into the sky, creating a dark purple cloud above them. Dark light rains down and struck Espeon on the spot. Wes grits his teeth.
"That one must does damage on everything else, but Shadow Pokémon," Wes said in his thoughts.
"Togetic! Use Shadow Blitz! Machop! Use Dynamic Punch!" The muscular man ordered. Machop ran forward to land a punch as Togetic came right at Espeon with a Shadow Blitz.
"Dodge it!" Wes called out. Both Espeon and Bayleef dodged their attacks at the same time. "Espeon! Use Confusion on Togetic!" Espeon uses Confusion to hold Togetic in the air. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball. He threw it at Togetic, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Togetic with him. He chose to send Togetic to his ride. "Bayleef! Use Shadow Rush!" Bayleef's dark aura built up, so Bayleef rushes and lands a hit on Machop, resulting in a knockout.
"Shoot! And I earned that Shadow Pokémon yesterday!" The muscular man cried. He took off as Bayleef was going more berserk. Wes had to calm Bayleef down.
"Bayleef!" Wes called out. Bayleef calmed down, hearing Wes's voice.
"Hey, that was impressive. How would you like to have a shot with me?" A girl challenged.
"I can take you on," Wes said.
"You asked for it!" The girl said, taking out two of her Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Beautifly and Smeargle!" Wes took out two of his Pokéballs and threw them.
"Go! Umbreon and Quilava!" Wes called out. Umbreon and Quilava both came out right at the same time. Rui saw that Smeargle is a Shadow Pokémon.
"Wes, the Shadow Pokémon is that Smeargle!" Rui said.
"Right. Umbreon! Use Snarl! Quilava! Use Shadow Blitz!" Wes ordered.
Umbreon fired a Snarl right at Beautifly while Quilava came at Smeargle with a Shadow Blitz, dealing some damage on the two Pokémon.
"Smeargle! Use Shadow Rush! Beautifly! Use Gust!" The girl ordered. Smeargle charged right at Umbreon and lands a heavy blow on the Moonlight Pokémon as Beautifly flapped its wings, blowing Quilava.
"Quilava! Use Flame Wheel! Unbreon! Use Feint Attack!" Wes ordered. Umbreon dashed at Smeargle and lands a hit as Quilava curled into a ball and rolled right at Beautifly, dealing some heavy damage., resulting in a kniockout. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball. Smeargle flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Smeargle with him. He chose to send Smeargle to his ride.
"Geez, that was brutal. Well, it's no big deal. That Smeargle wasn't for me anyway. You keep it if you want," the girl said.
After the battle, Wes and Rui went up to a six Trainers all around. They each noticed Wes and Rui approaching them.
"If you try talking to anyone in Duel Square, there's only one answer!" A girl said, approaching them. She took out two Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Skiploom and Oddish!" Her two Pokémon emerged from inside. Wes took out his two Pokéballs and threw them.
"Go! Quilava and Makuhita!" Wes called out. Rui looked directly at Skiploom.
"Wes! Skiploom's a Shadow Pokémon!" Rui said.
"On it!" Wes said. "Quilava! Use Shadow Blitz! Makuhita! Use Vital Throw!" Wes ordered. Makuhita grabbed Oddish gave the Weed Pokémon a toss. Quilava came at Oddish, hitting the Weed Pokémon on the spot.
"Skiploom! Shadow Rush! Oddish! Use Bullet Seed!" The girl ordered. Skiploom rushed at Furret with a Shadow Rush, landing a hit. Oddish fired Bullet Seed, hitting Makuhita.
"Makhita! Use Shadow Blitz!" Wes ordered. Makuhita rushed at Oddish and finished it off. The girl called her Oddish back and took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"I choose you, Dustox!" The girl called out. Her Pokéball opened to reveal a male Dustox. "Dustox! Use Poison Sting! Skiploom! Use Shadow Down!" Skiploom unleashed Shadow Down, bringing down Quilava and Makuhita's defense. Dustox fired Poison Sting, hitting the both of them. Wes wasn't going to call it quits that easily.
"Quilava! Use Shadow Blitz!" Wes ordered. Quilava rushes at Dustox and deals some heavy damage on Dustox. "Use Shadow Rush!" Quilava charged at Skiploom deals some damage on it. Seeing Skiploom was weakened, Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball and threw it. Skiploom flows inside it. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Skiploom with him. He chose to send Skiploom to his ride. The girl just didn't care that she lost, nor having her Skiploom snagged by Wes.
"Ooh, that was an incredible battle!" The girl said. "I simply love strong guys! That's L-O-V-E! If you ever have the urge to battle with me again, I'll always be here for you, honey."
"Uh, thanks, I guess," Wes said. Rui then crossed her arms.
"This is really odd. First Furret, then Shuckle, then Togetic, then Smeargle, and now, Skiploom. Why do the Trainers here have Shadow Pokémon?" Rui said in her thoughts. Wes looked at her as he called back Furret and Makuhita.
"Rui, is something bothering you?" Wes asked.
"Yeah. I just figured that the town is hiding a big secret," Rui said.
"If it has something to do with those Shadow Pokémon, then I'm going to agree with you. Cail did say the colosseum was giving them to Trainers who won the tournaments like Halloween candy. We can't stop now to wonder," Wes said.
"You're right. Let's keep going," Rui said.
"Hey, how about you have a battle with the rest of us?" A young man wearing a bandana challenged.
"I can take you up on your challenge," Wes said.
"I can see you're a battling fan!" The young man said, getting ready to battle. He took out two of his Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Psyduck and Quagsire!" Wes took out his two Pokéballs and threw them.
"Go! Umbreon and Croconaw!" Wes called out. Umbreon and Croconaw both came out, ready to battle. Rui stares right at Quagsire.
"That Quagsire is the Shadow Pokémon!" Rui said.
"Okay! Umbreon! Use Feint Attack on Quagsire! Croconaw! Use Shadow Blitz on Psyduck!" Wes ordered.
"Quagsure! Use Shadow Wave! Psyduck! Use Confusion!" The young man ordered. Quagsire unleashed a dark aura and it Umbreon and Croconaw. Umbreon has taken the heaviest damage.
"Croconaw! Use Aqua Tail! Umbreon! Use Feint Attack!" Wes ordered. Croconaw swings its tail while emitting water, and struck Quagsire on the mark. Umbreon vanished and reappeared to land a hit on Psyduck. Wes saw Quagsire was ready to he snagged, so he took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball and threw it at Quagsire. The Shadow Water Fish Pokémon flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Qugsire with him. He chose to send Quagsire to his ride.
"You're really tough. We should battle again," the young man said.
"Sometime in the future," Wes said.
Wes and Rui went off to snag the next Shadow Pokémon. And that's when another Trainer came rolling in.
"Battle, battle! Battles are so much fun! Pokémon battles for everyone!" A boy wearing roller skates said, rolling by. "Battles brings me so much joy! Let's get started, little boy!"
"Um, who are you calling little boy?" Wes asked. The boy took out two of Pokéballs and threw them.
"Go! Slugma and Azurill!" The boy shouted. A Slugma and Azurill emerged from inside, so Wes took out two of his Pokéballs and threw them.
"Espeon and Quilava! Go!" Wes called out. Rui stared right at Slugma.
"Wes, that Slugma's a Shadow Pokémon!" Rui said.
"Furret! Use Shadow Blitz! Espeon! Use Confusion!" Wes ordered. Espeon unleashed Confusion and struck Slugma hard as Quilava rushed at the Polka Dot Pokémon, hitting Azurill hard and resulting in a knockout. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball. He threw it at Slugma, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Slugma with him, but he chose to send Slugma right to his ride. The boy called back his Azurill.
"You just snagged my Slugma! Okay, try these out!" The boy said, taking out two more Pokéballs and threw them both. "Go! Swablu and Igglybuff!"
"Quilava! Use Shadow Blitz! Espeon! Use Confusion!" Wes ordered. Quilava came at Igglybuff as Espeon fired Psybeam at Swablue. Their attacks hit and they took down Swablu and Igglybuff with just one hit.
"I hope you like my show, but now it's time for me to go!" The boy said. "Okay, everyone! We've all had our fun! Until next week, farewell!" The boy said, skating off.
"That was one strange boy," Rui said.
They were next approached by a girl wearing an outfit that looks like she was getting ready for a show. She chuckled.
"Do you feel like sticking around for a demonstration of my Pokémon's moves?" The girl asked.
"If that's your idea of a challenge, then I'll have to take your word for it," Wes said.
"I'll take that for a yes. And that's good, good. I like your attitude. Feast your eyes on these!" The girl said, taking out two Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Flaaffy and Shroomish!" Her two Pokémon emerged from inside, ready to battle. Wes took out two of his own and threw them.
"Go! Makuhita and Bayleef!" Wes called out. Bayleef and Makuhita both came out to battle. Rui stared right at Flaaffy.
"Wes, that Flaaffy is a Shadow Pokémon, too!" Rui said.
"I got it," Wes said. "Bayleef! Use Body Slam! Makuhita! Use Vital Throw!" Wes ordered. Makuhita rushed at Shroomish and gave the Mushroom Pokémon a toss as Bayleef slammed its body into Flaaffy, dealing some damage.
"Flaaffy! Use Shadow Blitz! Shroomish! Use Stun Spore!" The girl ordered.
"Dodge it!" Wes called out. Makuhita and Bayleef dodged their attacks. "Shadow Blitz, the both of you!" Bayleef and Makuhita came at Flaaffy and Shroomish with a Shadow Blitz. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball and threw it. Flaaffy flowed inside it, making it wobble around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Flaaffy with him. He chose to send Flaaffy to his ride. Shroomish tried to get up to keep battling, but fell on its face, beaten.
"You outperformed me!" The girl exclaimed. "You're surprisingly good. I think you deserve to know a little secret about certain Pokémon moves."
"Yeah? What?" Wes asked.
"Okay, there's Shadow Rush and Shadow Blitz, right?" The girl asked.
"Yeah, what about them?" Wes asked.
"Those moves can do some heavy damage on Pokémon who aren't Shadow Pokémon. Those work as they were type weaknesses. Thought you should know," the girl said. Wes stroked his chin after gaining this new bit of information.
"That explains why those attacks worked so well on normal Pokémon, just like Espeon and Umbreon. Rui, what are your comments about this?" Wes asked.
"I don't have one, to be honest. But the plus side is, we have two more Shadow Pokémon to rescue here," Rui said.
"Right," Wes agreed.
"And I think it's about time you made a switch on your Pokémon, because I think most of them have been slowly opening up the doors to their hearts, little-by-little, also they seemed to be getting exhausted from all the intense battling they have been doing," Rui suggested.
"I think you're right. Espeon, Umbreon, and the rest could use a rest. And I already snagged some Shadow Pokémon 12 Shadow Pokémon in total. I think the one to be used would be Quagsire and Skiploom for the next one," Wes said, taking out his Pokémon Box. He exchanged Bayleef and Croconaw for Quagsire and Skiploom. "There."
"Hey!" A voice called out. The voice came from a young man approaching them. "I was watching what you battling. So I came here to challenge you to a battle!"
"I'm game!" Wes said.
"Glad to know you're not chickening out! Let's go!" The young man said. He took out two of his Pokéballs and threw them. "Go! Noctowl and Ledyba!" His Pokéballs opened and out came a Ledyba and a Noctowl. Wes took out two of his own and threw them.
"Go! Quagsire and Skiploom!" Wes called out. His Pokéballs opened and out came Quagsire and Skiploom, awaiting instructions. Rui stared right at Noctowl.
"Wes, the Shadow Pokémon is that Noctowl!" Rui said.
"Okay. Quagsire! Use Shadow Wave! Skiploom! Use Shadow Rush!" Wes ordered. Quagsire unleashed a Shadow Wave and deals some damage on Ledyba and Noctowl. Skiploom came at aledyba and dealt some damage on the Five Star Pokemon, dealing some damage. Ledyba was knocked out. He called back Ledyba and he took another Pokeball and threw it. "Go! Wingull!" His Pokeball opened and Wingull came out, flying.
"Noctowl! Use Shadow Down!" The young man ordered. Noctowl unleashed a dark aura and brings down Skiploom and Quagsire's defenses. "Use Shadow Storm!" Noctowl flapped its wings and unleashed a dark whirlwind, hitting Skiploom and Quagsire. "Use Shadow Storm again!" Noctowl unleashed another Shadow Storm, hitting Quagsire and Noctowl.
"Shadow Down!" Wes ordered. Quagire unleashed a Shadow Down, cutting Wingull and Noctowl's defense. "Use Shadow Wave! Skiploom! Use Shadow Blitz!" Skiploom tackled into Noctowl.
"Wingull! Use Wing Attack!" The young man ordered. Wingull flew right at Skiploom with its wings sticking out, and glowed.
"Shadow Blitz again!" Wes ordered as Skiploom gave Wingull a tackle. Wingull was taken down. He called his Wingull back inside.
"Noctowl! Use Shadow Storm!" The young man ordered.
"Quagsire! Use Shadow Wave!" Wes ordered. Quagsire unleashed a Shadow Wave, hitting Noctowl hard. "Skiploom! Use Shadow Rush!" Skiploom rushed right at the Owl Pokémon. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Pokeball and threw it. Noctowl flowed inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Noctowl with him. He chose to send Noctowl over to his ride.
"You're saying I lost?!" The young man exclaimed.
"I didn't say anything," Wes said, calling Quagsire and Noctowl back inside.
"Here's a tip for you. Shadow Pokémon will go in Reverse Mode. When in Reverse Mode, the Shadow Pokémon will only use Shadow moves, and disobey the Trainer if the move isn't a Shadow move. But calling out their names will snap them out of it," the young man said.
"Thanks for the tip," Wes said. He turned to Rui. "That explains that display we saw earlier. Luckily we figured that out ahead of time."
"We sure did," Rui said. "There's one more Shadow Pokémon to snag," Rui said. Wes nodded and went off to the sixth Trainer is another young man. Wes exchanged
"You're looking to battle with me?" The young man asked.
"Yeah, I am," Wes said. The young man just laughed.
"That's too funny! Come at me as if your life depended on it!" The young man dared Wes as he laughed. He took out two of his Pokéballs and threw them both. "Go! Misdreavus and Zigzagoon!" His two Pokémon emerged from inside, ready to battle. Wes took out his two Pokéballs and threw them both.
"Go! Quagsire and Makuhita!" Wes called out. Quagsire and Makuhita both came out to battle. Rui stared right at Misdreavus.
"Wes, the Shadow Pokémon is that Misdreavus!" Rui said.
"Okay," Wes said as he nodded. "Quagsire! Use Shadow Wave! Makuhita! Use Shadow Blitz!" Quagsire unleashed a Shadow Wave, hitting Misdreavus and Zigzagoon, dealing some heavy damage. Makuhita rushed at Zigzagoon, dealing some heavy damage, resulting in a knockout. He took out another Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Skitty!"
"Misdreavus! Use Shadow Panic!" The young man ordered. Misdreavus unleashed a dark aura, creating dark stars. It ends up confusing Quagsire and Makuhita. "Skitty! Use Double Slap! Misdreavus! Use Shadow Blitz!" Skitty gave a couple of slaps on Makuhita as Misdreavus came at Quagsire with a Shadow Blitz.
"Quagsire! Use Shadow Wave! Makhita! Use Shadow Rush!" Wes ordered. Quagsire unleashed Shadow Wave, hitting Misdreavus and Skitty. "Makuhita! Use Vital Throw!" Makuhita grabbed Skitty and gave the Kitten Pokémon a toss, resulting in a knockout. Wes took out a Pokéball, converting it into a Snag Ball. He threw it at Misdreavus, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Wes's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Misdreavus with him. He chose to send Misdreavus right to his ride. The young man groaned.
"Wow. That was easy for you. Losing like that snapped me out of my hyper state. I was having trouble with that Misdreavus. I should tell you that the Shadow Pokémon won't learn any new moves nor would they evolve. I tried to get it to evolve into a Mismagius with a Dusk Stone, but nothing I did worked. Good luck with whatever you're doing," the young man said.
"Now that's all the Shadow Pokémon you snagged in this area. The next step is the colosseum," Rui said.
"Yeah, you're right. We're going have to make our plan on that tomorrow. Right now, we should rest up," Wes said. Rui nodded with agreement and went off to the local hotel to rest. Luckily for them, there was a room available for them. Wes plans on entering the next competition that takes place and make his move against Miror B.
Over at the international police headquarters, a board meeting is taking place as several officers are talking among each other about the crisis in the Orre region. Just then, the head of the international police stepped in to discuss this matter.
"Ten-hut!" One of the officers said, standing up straight.
"As you were," the head of the international police said. The rest of the officers all sat down. "I have two questions. My first one is: what's the situation? And the second is: how bad is it?"
"Sir, we have some disturbing rise in strange Pokémon activity taking place in the Orre region," one of the officers reported.
"How strange is it?" The head of the international police asked.
"Sir, we have reports that there is a rise of Pokémon that appears to be being used as potential weapons. They seem to be emotionless when Pokémon are normally trusting creatures. And without any reason, they seem to be attacking people as well," the first officer reported.
"We have no idea where these strange Pokémon are even coming from and why these things are happening, but we are recommending that immediate action be taken," another officer said.
"I agree. And I recommend Detective Looker to investigate this matter. He's well-known for getting to the bottom of things better than most of us. Any objections?" The head of the international police asked. There was a sudden silence. "Then we shall begin our investigation in the Orre region at once."
"Sir!" The international police said.
