Chapter 11

A/N: Sorry I'm late guys. I had to get up early on Friday and basically slept through the whole rest of the day. I completely forgot I had a chapter to post. Anyway, it's here now, enjoy!

Newt's eyes open wide in shock when he hears your demand.
He stutters, "Wh- What note?"
You feel anger well up inside of you. First he kept this information from you and now that you know, he denies it.
"Newt, this is your last chance to tell me the truth. Thomas told me you guys found a note with me. Stop lying, just tell me about it, that's all I ask."
Newt looks around as if someone would just appear and end the conversation but he isn't that lucky. He sighs, looks at the ground and says, "You better come in."

He turns around and goes back inside. His limp is very prominent now, you had realised it before but don't remember the information registering in your brain. Weird. Newt opens a door and you see Alby sitting at a table, eating. Alby looks up when we come in,
"What is it, Newt? We just spoke." He looks at you, "Did she do something?"
"Alby," Newt starts off nervously, "she knows about the note."
Alby stands up so quickly that his chair falls backwards. You can see on his face that he is livid, positively fuming. You realise you probably made a mistake and wish that you could take it back, but it's too late.

Alby storms up closer to you and Newt.
"How did she find out?"
You don't want Alby to take his anger out on Newt, and Thomas had no idea that you weren't supposed to know so you decide to take the blame,
"I accidentally overheard you guys talking. I heard my name so I thought that if it's about me I deserve to know. That's when I heard you say something about a note. I want to know more."
Alby turns his glare to you and it doesn't soften, it hardens if anything.
"When we're talking privately it's just that, private."
"But if you found the note by me I should be allowed to know what it's about."
"That's not how it works."
He steps closer in anger and you also step closer, he's quite a bit taller than you but you feel like you can be just as threatening. You try to glare back at him. His stare falters a bit, but it's slight enough for you to have only seen it wrong. He eventually backs off a bit and seems to make a decision,
"You're just like that Greenie, Thomas. Both of you have your minds set in a certain way, did you know he wants to be a runner?"

He's trying to distract you from getting the information you want, it almost works. You want to ask more about runners and why Thomas wants to be one, but you catch yourself and say,
"No! I want to know about this note, I deserve to know."
Alby and Newt exchange a glance before Alby nods and Newt goes to a drawer. He opens it pulls out a folded sheet of paper. He unfolds it and hands it to you. You look down at it, it's a letter addressed to the Gladers:

Dear Gladers,
We hope you enjoy our little gift to you. Don't waste the limited time you have with her. We'll collect her in a week or two, maybe earlier if she completes her task quickly.
— WICKED

You look up from the note, cast your eyes between Newt and Alby, your mouth slightly open in disbelief and confusion. There's an awkward silence before you're able to say something,
"You found this the day I got here?"
The two boys nod and you turn to Newt,
"And you didn't tell me about any of it!"
He looks at the floor, suddenly very interested in his boots, you see how uncomfortable he is but feel that he deserves your anger. To think that he had this information for half a week and didn't tell you. You crumple up the paper, throw it down and storm out of the room. Once you're outside, you run. Past Thomas who tried to greet you, past the Gardens, past the Box, until you reached the Deadheads. Not wanting to be caught alone and off guard and wake up in the Maze again, you stop by one of the trees visible from the Homestead and climb up. It's a bit difficult with your arm in a sling, but you had chosen a fairly easy tree.

You sit there and try to slow down your heartbeat, but you can't stop thinking about how Newt knew about the note, knew that you were going to be taken away from here in a week, and he didn't tell you. Alby had probably told him not to, but screw the rules and keeping secrets, you thought you and Newt were close, had a special bond. Heck! You had wanted to tell him you liked him. You start to really second guess that decision.

It's not that you don't want to leave the Glade, after only a few days you already feel trapped, but you had befriended the guys here and don't want to leave if they're staying behind. This is the only world you know, what is it like outside the Maze walls?

Your thoughts get interrupted as someone approaches the base of the tree,
"Y/N!" they call up to you.
You look down and see Newt standing there, looking up at you with those beautiful eyes. You feel that fuzzy feeling rise up inside of you but it quickly dissipates as it's replaced by feelings of betrayal and anger.
"What do you want?" You yell down at him.
"I want to apologise."

You jump out of the tree and land in front of him. Standing up, you pause a second, look at him closely, he seems to really mean it, he's sincere.
"Why?"
Your singular word surprises him, he was expecting you to reject his apology or accept it. You asking for an explanation catches him off guard. He starts stuttering,
"I, well um…" He takes a breath and tries again.
"I know it wasn't right to keep the note away from you, but Alby thought it was best. I was..."
You interrupt him,
"Newt, this isn't about Alby or the even note, really. This is about you lying to me, keeping it from me. I really thought we had something special. But then you think I don't get to know what's going to happen to me but fricken Thomas does? Does everyone know?"
He shakes his head, "Only a few people, unless they spread the word. But they only know 'cause they were there when we found the note."
"I don't care," you start to walk away from him, "I need some time alone."
You turn towards the Glade and run again, not sure where you're going.

A/N: Again, really sorry guys. I will have the next one out on time. Thanks for reading and please review, I really want to know what you guy think and how I can improve.
