Luz has been trying to figure out some more glyph combos for her to use. "Luz! I need your help. I think Francois is trying to start a rebellion." King says as he points at the pile of stuffed toys.
"In a minute, King. I'm getting so close to figuring out this glyph combo." Luz claimed.
"It's always glyphs and portals with you these days. What about King?" King says annoyed.
Luz told King that he could ask Varian to help him with his "rebellion." King walked over to Varian who was sitting on a chair reading his favorite book, The Tales of Flynnigan Rider. King shook Varian out of his reading and asked him if he wanted to play. But Varian said that he was a little busy and asked King if he could have Lilith to help him since she was in the Emperor's Coven. King looked over at Lilith who had messy hair and dark circles, staring at the paper. He shook his head saying no way.
He noticed Hooty giving Lilith a cup of tea and calling her Lulu and she was being nice to Hooty. King looked a little freaked out and figured that Hooty was blackmailing her, but Luz told him that they were actually friends. Luz cracked a new combo that turned herself invisible, but it only lasted long when she held her breath. Lilith looked impressed with Luz's new glyph since she got the idea from one of her history books.
Lilith stated, "Fascinating as the lead historical scholar of the emperor's coven, my aid can really be helpful-" She got cut off when she tripped and landed on King's pile of toys.
"An ambush! Men, defend your ruler!" King exclaimed as he threw a stuffed toy at Lilith only for Hooty to deflect it.
Hooty pretended he was dying in her arms; Varian thought it was a little funny when King claimed that the King of Demons doesn't yield to anyone. Of course, Lilith rained on his parade saying that there has never been a king of demons which made King throw another stuffed animal at her. He told his story about how he was the mighty king of demons until an evil spell was cast on him turning him into a smaller version of himself. "Oh? What happened to your crown of power?" Hooty asked, smugly.
"A trifle! That was just to test Eda and Luz's dedication to me. They passed. My real crown is still out there. But when I shrink my memories got fuzzy." King says as Luz puts a hand on King's shoulder.
"How convenient. A hole in your memory for each hole in your story." Lilith stated, bluntly.
King told Lilith that he remembered the army's bowing, eating the best feasts, and a memory of falling which he thinks was the spell that shrinks him. Luz started cuddling King like he was a little puppy. Lilith and Varian look at each other and then King "Your dedication to farce would be charming if it weren't so sad." Lilith snipped.
King stomped away in anger calling Lilith ignorant for calling him a liar. Luz told Lilith and Hooty to stop making fun of King since the story was important to him. The least they could do is play along with King. King returned with Eda and Lilith's palismen saying that they were going to his castle and prove that Lilith shall regret ever doubting him. Luz agreed to come and so did Varian, Lilith wanted to come since King questioned her historical expertise. She asked Hooty to come along and he somehow squeezed his whole body into a backpack birdhouse.
It grossed everyone out, Varian literally threw up and Ruddiger fainted. Everyone left the house and flew into the sky. Varian loved the view "This is great! I feel like a bird." Varian says, mesmerized.
It took them almost the whole day of flying but King led them to an island surrounded by mist that he claimed to be his castle. Lilith looked confused at what they were seeing, an island that had never been on any maps. They landed then soon they had to hike through the forest since the treetops were so thick that they couldn't land any closer. King led them to an old tower that was hidden behind bushes and the entrance was blocked by boulders. King squeezed his way through the cracks to find another way in for the others.
"What a strange material. And this symbol. I've never seen anything quite like this." Lilith says as she places her hand on the carvings.
"Do you think it has something to do with the portal door?" Varian asked.
"Highly unlikely. This predates any language I know. King's story may be a fake, but these ruins are a history mystery." Lilith answered, making Varian sigh.
The sound of rubble came from behind them, it was King who had made a way inside by pushing the rocks out of the way. They climbed over the rocks and now they were inside the tower. Luz and Lilith pulled out light glyphs to light the dark room up. The room's walls were covered in carvings from thousands of years ago. "Ah, the chamber where I would devour the hearts of my foes. The taste was cold and bitter, but I bet yours would be sweet, Luz." King complimented her.
"With all the sugar I eat, it better be," Luz says then winks at King.
Everyone looked around the place, Luz thought she saw something or someone spying on them, but she shook off the feeling. Hooty and Lilith found cravings that looked similar to King which made them believe that King might have been the King of Demons. They started acting more believable to King's story. Luz decided to explore a different room of the tower to try and figure out what this place was.
Varian decided to explore the place more as he desperately wanted answers on the way back home and his dad. He searched his satchel then held up one of his glowing chemicals as a light source and decided that there was no need to tell the others since it was just gonna be quick. He looked around the walls and found a carving with a strange language. He did learn how to decipher the text from that piece of scroll he found with his dad's things, so this was a piece of cake.
However, the only things he could decipher were 'The Collector seeks a playmate,' and 'Do not let him escape his prison.' He wondered what it meant. Suddenly, he heard rattling noises coming from above him. He looked up to see a rock-like creature crawling on the ceiling. Luz came out of nowhere and grabbed Varian's arm, pulling away from the creature. Lilith then uses an ice glyph to keep the creature at bay "Dang girl, you've been practicing." Luz stated.
"You may admire my progress when we get out of here alive!" Lilith exclaimed.
As they started heading to the exit, the creature escaped from the ice and blocked their path. It was about to attack them when Eda suddenly came and threw her explosive elixirs at the creature. Eda ordered Luz and the others to get out of there while she held it back. Luz didn't want to leave Eda, but she told them to just go. They made it outside then minutes later, Eda came out of the tower holding her injured arm. The creature couldn't leave the tower since it could not sustain itself.
Luz figured that the creature was guarding the place from intruders, but King was still confused about what was going on. That was when Eda confessed the King didn't know the whole story about how they first met. Lilith tended to Eda's wounds as she began to tell them the whole story. Eight years ago, she found this place when she was hiding out from the Emperor's Coven. She needed shelter from the boiling rains and that was when she found the tower. She found King as a little pup all alone, thinking that he was just a stray dog.
The creature was about to kill them, but she grabbed King and left the tower. It shot an arrow at King which broke off one of his horns. She got King the collar thinking he was just a pet until she heard him speak when she called him a king. Eda shared tales of mighty kings and that made King think he was some despotic overlord. But Eda saw how happy King was, so she kept playing along. When she finished telling them the whole story, King was on the verge of crying, trying to believe that Eda was just messing with him.
But she wasn't lying, she took the broken-off horn piece from her hair and showed it to King. He held it revealing his actual memories "No! Keep that thing away from me! It's messing with my head!" King shouts as he throws the horn piece onto the ground.
Luz tried to comfort King, but he was still on the verge of a panic attack. He then ran off into the forest crying hysterically, his whole world crumbled into pieces. Luz and the others called out for King but no sign of him. Lilith and Hooty started to regret playing a part of this. Even though Luz was beginning to regret lying to King, he trusted her. "For now, let's split up. The island is small, and he's even smaller. He can't have gone far. Don't worry we'll find him." Eda says as she places her hand on Luz's shoulder.
Everyone splits up to cover more ground. Varian started calling King's name until he found him sitting on a log near the Boiling Sea. "Eda was right, wasn't she? I was never king of anything. I'm nobody." King says as he stares at the ground, crying.
"King, that's not true. You are somebody. And everyone loves you. Hey. Your family is real, and that love is real. Just because you think you're at your lowest point in life doesn't mean that you're not a king in our eyes. Besides, I think Rudiger would miss having his best buddy around to cause trouble with. And I would miss my little assistant. King or not, you still have a great family and amazing friends.'' Varian explained.
King wiped away his tears and thanked Varian for the pep talk. Varian suddenly remembered that King had a memory of him falling, which could have been a real memory. He overheard King mention that he heard a roar from the shaft before he went exploring. Eda found King in those ruins, so he thought that there had to be a clue in there on where King came from. "I don't know Varian. What if the story gets worse?" King asked.
"You might have been alone before, but you have us now. Whatever we find in there won't change. So, what do you say?" Varian answered.
King agreed to go with the flow. Varian brought King back to Luz, Eda, and Lilith who were relieved to see King. Eda apologized to King about everything, King forgave her and they promised each other not to keep any more secrets between each other. Varian and Luz came up with a plan to get back inside the tower. Lilith and Hooty distracted the creature using Eda's explosive elixirs. Eda and Luz used one of the elixirs to blow away the rocks covering the shaft then all of them flew up the shaft.
But when they got to the top, there was nothing there. The creature climbed the shaft walls and had them all cornered. Suddenly, a door opened behind them leading to another room. They all quickly went inside and then closed the door before the creature could get in. Lilith indicated that this room was really old and the craving on the wall was the same creature, it was created to guard whatever was in there. Broken shell pieces were lying on the floor from an egg. King knew that there was one way to jog his memory back.
He took the broken horn piece from Eda then he placed it back on his head. The memories came flooding back, he heard a deep roar when he was inside the egg, but he fell back asleep. But the next time he woke up, he was hatching out of his egg. The newborn King crawled to the doorway and then opened it. Outside standing was the creature, it picked him up before falling down the shaft. King took the horn piece off and then snapped out of his trance. "That roar, it meant 'son.' I don't know how I know that, but I do. Luz, Varian, I think it was my dad." King stated.
"Maybe it was him in all of those wall carvings," Luz suggested.
The door was destroyed and the creature was about to attack Luz. King ordered it to stop, and it did, then it bowed before King. "That thing was defending King from us the whole time. Huh. Alright." Eda said.
Lilith started taking pictures of the cravings, but she stopped when everyone stared at her, and she decided to do it later. King wanted to find his dad if he was still out there, he wanted answers to his secret family. Luz and Varian both were willing to help him. They left the tower and returned to the Owl House with the creature that King named Jean-Luc. King craved the symbol onto his collar while Luz used glue to stick the horn piece back on. Rudiger decided to sleep with King for the night just to be a good friend.
"Luz, is it okay to still call me King? It feels kind of weird when I'm not the king of anything." King asked, sadly.
"Well, you'll always be king of my heart. That's good enough, right?" Luz says as she nudges King.
Luz gave King a good night kiss before leaving the room to join Lilith, Eda, and Varian in the living room. They were looking over the pictures of the wall cravings, trying to find out what they meant.
