Ness woke up from his alarm. He laid on his bed for a while thinking. Maybe he should give up on Leaf. Clearly she hates him and he can't do anything about it. He tried. He really did, but…
Lucky: "Espii!"
Lucky was his wake up call that he needed to get up and start his day. He went to his closet and put on his signature look. A white buttoned up shirt with a sweater over it and khakis. His preppy school boy look.
He poured dry kibble onto Lucky's food bowl. Of course, his Pokemon refused to eat it, but eventually he'll have to unless he wants to starve to death. Ness didn't exactly have a lot of money to afford the fancy wet food. He could barely afford food for himself.
As much as he wanted to quit his job, he had no choice but to keep going. The pay is decent and he gets benefits that he can't ignore.
He sat down on his desk and went on his Twitter to see what his friends were up to. He saw Popo's post. It was a picture of him and Toon hanging out in a mountain.

It's nice to know that those two are keeping in touch beyond the weekly Thursday hang outs. He smiled and a part of him wishes he could be hanging out with those two taking pictures.
He continued to go through other people's twitter. He saw that Sonic posted a picture of him and Fox drinking a smoothie together. He went through Sonic's timeline. Boy, he has a lot of friends. He's constantly getting tagged by others. Ness couldn't help but feel a little jealous.

Holy shit! He's really popular. He posted that yesterday! Today is the twelfth. Why is he surprised? It's Sonic. He checked his followers and saw that he had over a million. All he did was post a picture of him and Fox drinking a smoothie saying Banana strawberry milkshakes and got sixty four thousand likes. He's got to be the most popular smash character here because that's crazy.

He saw that some random person messaged him on Twitter, but he ignored it. He had over a hundred and at first he was blocking them, but it got too much.
The direct messages were annoying, but whenever he visited his timeline, he saw that he was gaining more followers everyday. He hasn't made a post since March eighteenth, but that post is still getting likes.
He didn't want to admit it, but he understood why his friends like social media. It was nice getting all this attention. There were comments that disgusted him, but there were a lot that also made him feel special.
He wondered how much attention he would get if he posted something right now.

He just posted it. He clicked on his notifications and got more followers. It made him smile. He shouldn't be happy about this. It's social media. They're all fake, yet, something about it made him feel important.

His comment section is still disgusting, but it's getting a little better. There's still hope that he'll one day get rid of all the creeps.
Alright, no more social media. He needs to do something. He got up and went to knock on Lucas's door. The blonde answered.
Lucas: "Oh, hey."
Ness: "Want to grab lunch together?"
Lucas: "Yeah!"
Lucas went to grab his wallet and keys. He shut the door and locked it. The two smiled at each other and walked to the food court.
Together they grabbed a bite to eat and sat down on a lone table.
Lucas: "Did you talk with Leaf?"
Ness: "Yeah."
Lucas: "How'd it go?"
Ness: *Sighs* "I give up."
Lucas: "What?"
Ness: "I give up."
Lucas: "What happened?"
Ness: "She doesn't like me and I don't think she ever will."
Lucas: "What did she say?"
Ness: "She didn't accept my apology. She talked about how I'm trying to get on her good side, so eventually I'll convince her to get an abortion."
Lucas: "To be fair, you did mention that the first time you spoke with her. It wasn't really nice."
Ness: "I know, Lucas. That's why I apologized. I didn't even mention abortion. She's the one that brought it up."
Lucas: "Because she's on guard."
Ness: "You're the one that told me to apologize at work."
Lucas: "You're right. I thought it would maybe make things better. I'm sorry."
Ness: "No, you're ok. I'm sorry. I shouldn't be taking it out on you."
Lucas: "I think maybe right now, you have to give her space."
Ness: "That's why I said I give up."
Lucas: "No, don't give up. Just give her time to heal."
Ness: "I don't think she'll ever like me again."
Lucas: "I disagree."
Ness: "Why do you say that?"
Lucas: "I think give it enough time and she'll calm down."
Ness: "I guess I have no choice either way."
Lucas: "I mean you could make it worse by trying to reason with her."
Ness: "True."
Lucas: "That's such a you thing. You tend to want to solve the problem right away instead of letting things boil down."
Ness: "I know…"
Lucas: "My new advice is to take it slow."
Ness: "Ok."
Lucas: "No more trying to fix the issue. Unless she decides to approach you first."
Ness: "If she does then what do I do?"
Lucas: "If she's venting, then listen."
Ness: "Just listen?"
Lucas: "Look, dude, I don't know. I'm not her."
Ness: "I think for now, I'm going to listen to you and just leave her alone."
Lucas was happy to hear that Ness decided to go with his plan. He usually fights back and doesn't want to hear what Lucas has to say. Before, the blonde was too scared to talk to Ness like this, but now it's different. He doesn't know why, but Ness has been easier to talk to.
Lucas: "Anyway, want to talk about fun things?"
Ness: "Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean to bother you with my drama."
Lucas: "Hearing you say that is weird."
Ness: "Is that so?"
Lucas: "Yeah. Before you were never tangled in drama. Most people didn't think much about you."
Ness: "I know, but now I'm popular and I hate it."
Lucas: "I saw your Twitter post. It's blowing up."
Ness: "I know…"
Lucas: "Is my buddy becoming an influencer?"
Ness: "N-no!" *Blushes*
Lucas: "You like it, don't you?"
Ness: "I mean maybe a little."
Lucas: "Hahaha! Nothing wrong with that."
Ness: "It's a little embarrassing."
Lucas: "Everyone is on social media."
Ness: "Yeah, but, I never thought I would be into it."
Lucas: "But look at you! Posting and getting those likes."
Ness: "Listen, I only posted that to see if it would blow up. It was a test."
Lucas: "Mhm, suuure."
He rolled his eyes.
Ness: "I wanted to see if people still cared or if the whole me fucking half the roster was just a phase."
Lucas: *Snickers*
Ness: "What?"
Lucas: "I'm sorry, but you fucking half the roster is funny."
Ness: "It's ridiculous."
Lucas: "I just can't see it."
Ness: "Hey!"

Ness: *Snickers* "No, you're right it's a little funny."
The two shared a laugh. They finished eating and walked Lucky together. The other smashers gave them a look and started whispering, but they ignored it and continued to enjoy each other's company.
Lucas: "You know, you and I should go on an adventure."
Ness: "Oh yeah?"
Lucas: "Yeah!"
Ness wasn't used to hearing Lucas coming up with plans. Are they getting closer? Were they not as close before? He started to feel insecure. It was always his way. He wondered if Lucas was unhappy being around him.
He remembered from reading his Emotions Are Hard Let's Talk About It book, that being honest with your friends can be awful at the moment, but bottling it up WILL be awful.
Ness: "Hey, Lucas, can I ask you a question."
Lucas: "Of course."
Ness bit his nail. He was scared. He wanted to ask him so many questions, but for now, he should go slow and ask him one.
Ness: "Do you feel a change in our friendship?"
Lucas: "What do you mean?"
Ness: "Like is it better now?"
Lucas: "Um."
He saw Lucas's hesitation. Before he would push it, but like Lucas said earlier, being patient and letting people take the time to think is the better way to approach.
Ness: "If you don't want to answer right now, it's fine. I want you to feel comfortable."
Lucas: "No, I can answer."
Ness: "Oh!"
Lucas: "D-do you want my honest opinion?"
Ness: "Yes."
Lucas: "Before, you could be a little controlling. There were times when hanging out with you was a chore."
Ness: "Oh…"
Lucas: "But I still liked being around you. You're fun. I liked that you always had a plan for us."
Ness: "Are you sure?"
Lucas: "For the most part I didn't mind you planning everything."
Ness: ["For the most part…"]
Lucas: "What was that?"
Ness: "Lucas, I'm sorry. I had no idea that I was being controlling."
Lucas: "I didn't mind you planning everything. It's just that sometimes when I wanted to do something else, you would get upset and mope about it."
Ness: "That wasn't cool of me."
Lucas: "It made it hard to suggest things."
Ness: "I'm sorry."
Lucas: "Although lately, I don't know why, but I feel like I could tell you my suggestions without you getting upset."
Ness: "Really?"
Lucas: "Yeah, you've been so down to earth lately. Your vibe changed. You're still you, but less dickish. Sorry to say it like that."
Ness: "No, no, it's justified. I was and still am a dick."
Lucas: "No, you're not."
Ness: "I still got a lot to work on. Honestly the way I talked about Leaf was out of pocket."
Lucas: "I mean, she is being frustrating."
Ness: "Yeah, well, I shouldn't have called her a cunt and a bitch."
Lucas: "It was a little shocking to hear you say that."
Ness: "I'm sorry."
Lucas: "Don't be. I understand."
Ness: "Yeah, but I used to never say things like that about people."
Lucas: "You also never dealt with drama."
Ness: "That's true."
Lucas: "You're taking it pretty well."
Ness: "Calling someone a cunt is taking it well?"
Lucas: "Well, no. But you could be worse. You could be constantly harassing her about getting an abortion."
Ness: "I would never."
Lucas: "I know, but some people might take it that far. You're a good person at heart. For most people, being kidnapped for eight months would make them go insane and it usually takes decades to get them to even think about bettering themselves. You, on the other hand, are already doing it. You're trying to improve and that right there is amazing. I seriously look up to you more than I possibly ever did."
Ness didn't know what to say. He felt incredibly happy. He pulled his attention away from the ground and looked at his best friend. The blonde had a big smile on his face. He's lucky to have Lucas by his side.
Lucas is such an understanding big sweetheart. The way he treated him in the past was shitty. He doesn't deserve him. He doesn't understand why Lucas stuck around, but he did and that's all that matters. He wants to be a better person and show Lucas that he's important to him.
Ness: "C-can I hug you?"
Lucas: "W-what?"
Ness: "Sorry I…"
Lucas: "You can. I'm just shocked. You don't usually hug unless you're super excited."
Ness pulled Lucas into a hug. Whenever they hugged it was a big squeeze and it was quick. However, this hug was gentle and long.
They pulled away and stared at each other for a bit. The look Ness gave him made Lucas's heart skip a beat. Ness had a sincere smile on his face and looked away. God, he's so attractive.
Ness: "Thanks, I needed that."
Lucas: "A-any time."
They chatted about video games until they both got tired of walking. Lucas said he wanted to go do his own thing for a bit, so they parted ways.
When Lucas went back to his room, he turned on his tv and watched whatever show was on. He couldn't stop thinking about their hug. He knows Ness only thinks of him as a friend, but sometimes it feels like they're more than that.
That hug was long and it felt passionate. Ness was holding him tight and they were hugging for a while. The way Ness looked at him seemed like maybe he likes him more than a friend. At least that's how he viewed it. He wasn't quite sure.
Ness does act suspicious though. Lucas remembered that one time when Ness wanted him to sleepover and got upset when he was going to leave. Sure it could be because he genuinely missed how they used to be, but Ness knows that Lucas has a crush on him.
It's a little weird that Ness knows yet he still wants Lucas to sleepover. They also get playfully physical often and the stuff Ness says to him, makes him think that maybe Ness is in denial. He's sure normal friends don't act like this unless deep inside they were enamored with each other.
He wanted to ask Ness how he felt, but he knows what his friend is going to say. Ness is going to deny it and say that he didn't mean it like that and frankly, Lucas didn't want to hear the rejection. Right now they're getting closer. He didn't want to make things awkward between them again.

Meanwhile in Ness's room
Ness was on his laptop playing league. He texted Nate in discord, but his clone is probably still working. He decided to play a couple games without him.
After a good game, he gave himself a good stretch. He lost some games, but that last one he just played was pretty awesome! It was a total stomp. He was feeling great. He could definitely go another.
Knock! Knock!
He flinched. Who could be at the door? What time is it? He checked the clock and saw that it was six in the evening. Oh it's probably Lucas. Sometimes they take a break from each other and then hang out for the rest of the night.
Thinking it was Lucas, he opened the door and smiled.
Ness: "Hey I…"
His face dropped.
