"...Your reactions were just as fun to watch as the fireworks, honestly. I had a really good time, so... I hope we can go together next year."
Nami's words last night kept echoing in my mind over and over again this morning, which resulted in my cheeks burning more and more as the same color as my chicken's comb on top of her head. I couldn't stop thinking about Nami's words so badly that earlier I ended up petting my chicken for over twenty minutes without even realizing; I had completely spaced out and was daydreaming about last night like mad! This feeling just feels so...good...so magical...I'd never want to risk not feeling like this again, but...
Eventually I will have to tell Nami how I feel.
I just have to stop being a scaredy-cat!
Speaking of cats, I hope Takakura let's me have a cat on this farm someday. I need to order more animals in general, so far I only have: my cow, chicken, and dog. Maybe once I save up a little more money, I can order a sheep next. ... Alright, maybe I'll open up my shop today and make some extra gold to order a sheep!
With pure determination sparkling in my eyes, I skipped out of my farm and began to walk passed the inn; however, I came to a halt when I heard voices from the inside. It kind of sounded like... Nami's voice.
I sneakily stood in front of the inn's entrance and put my ear up to the door.
It sounded like Tei and Nami were having a conversation.
I suddenly heard a door open from afar and I turned around to see that Molly was now cheerily walking out of the cafe. In a panic, I scurried into the inn so Molly couldn't see me, and somehow, both Nami and Tei didn't notice my presence as they were conversing with each other as I awkwardly stood at the doorway.
Nami sighed. "... I should have known this was coming."
I felt my heart sink into my stomach at hearing her say that, worry now invading my mind as I placed a hand onto my heart. What's wrong? What happened...?
"Oh yeah. Nami, I should mention that I got a phone call from your father last night..." Tei informed her and he continued on as Nami listened to him intently with a stern expression on her face; however, it was hard to tell what she was thinking exactly as he spoke, "He thanked us for taking care of you. I told him it was no trouble at all, since we're glad to have you! I asked if he wanted to speak with you, but he said he didn't need to, and hung up on me... Hopefully everything's okay..."
Nami turned toward the front desk, probably as a way to shield her expression from Tei, and next her voice was quiet in response, yet I noticed she tried to make it appear casual-sounding, like nothing was wrong at all. "Yeah, probably. ...Is it okay if I take this letter here?"
I frowned. I wonder if Nami has a good relationship with her Dad..? And I wonder if Nami will tell me more about her past someday...? I can't tell if she's bothered about what Tei just told her. I just hope Nami opens up to me more someday... I feel like there's so much more I don't know about her, and it makes me... sad.
Tei nodded with a weak smile as he walked around the front desk. "Oh! Almost forgot about that. It's addressed to you anyway, so go right ahead."
Nami quickly put the letter in her pocket and she scratched her head, sighing once more. "Hm... Guess I'm gonna need to work from here on out."
Oh. Wow... It didn't even cross my mind once that I've never see Nami do any sort of work or have a career. Usually I'm way more insightful than this! Looks like her dad must be giving her money, or something. At least she's willing to work it seems, unlike Rock. ...
Nami turned to look at Tei. "Tei? Can I work here?"
Tei nearly gasped. "Huh?! What's with the sudden interest in employment?" He paused and relaxed a little, next proceeding to speak to Nami once more. "I'd be happy to let you work here if that's what you'd like! I'm sure you have your reasons for it, after all."
Nami hesitated before responding back. "Uh, actually...never mind."
Tei and I nearly jumped. WHAT?! W-Wait... Why is she suddenly backing out? Doesn't she need money...? Unless... She's worried she'd be a burden to Tei and Lou, or something?
Nami began to brisk-walk towards the door, she was looking down at the floor, so she didn't notice me quite yet.
"W-Wait, Nami!" Tei worriedly yelled, which caused Nami to come to a halt, and then finally, she noticed me. Her sapphire eyes widened slightly as we fully locked eyes.
I felt my heart skip a beat as Nami turned towards me. "Oh, it's you, Kayla. Um...weird question, but d'you think I could work on Pink Farm?"
Eyes widening, my heart felt as if it had exploded and I blushed furiously. W-WHAT?! I-I don't remember telling Nami the name of my farm either... Pink Farm... But... But... Nami... wants to work on my farm?! The two of us...alone...together...working...everyday...
...
My entire face was burning outrageously as I stood in there in shock for a few seconds, until I finally managed to meekly answer her by saying, "O-Of course! No problem!"
W-Wait. Do I even have enough money to pay her to be her boss?! I can barely afford to buy a sheep right now!
Nami turned around for a moment in silence, it looked like she was contemplating hard about it...and then she turned back around to face me.
"...Maybe that's not such a good idea after all. Forget I said anything."
With that, Nami walked out of the inn, and tiny disappointment began to bubble within me.
Geez, just when I was mentally preparing to let her work on my farm too! Well, maybe it's for the best... I am attracted to her, so I guess it would be hard to have feelings for someone when I'm supposed to be their boss and work with them! Ahhhh. I feel so flustered just thinking about it!
I heard Tei let out a sigh from behind me. "She's something else... Kayla, you're welcome to hang out here for a bit. I'm going to try to go talk with her."
After announcing that, Tei swiftly left the inn in a flash and I stood there, unsure of what to do now. Should I go find Nami too? ...And talk with her? If she's struggling with money, I-
"URGHH!"
I heard someone yell from upstairs along with a loud bang, which resulted in me being so startled I almost fell over!
Without even thinking, I sprinted up to the stairs, worried that someone got hurt, and to my surprise, I saw Rock, trying to break open Nami's room!
"W-What are you doing?!" I demanded, obviously taken aback.
Rock was huffing and puffing as he was trying to pick the lock with a bobby pin; he was leaning against the door exhausted and he was scowling. His blond hair was even falling out of place in the front area near his forehead ever so slightly.
He panted. "I'm tired of Nami...*pant*...sabotaging me! I'm tired of her making me look so uncool in front of everyone all the time! And stealing my hair gel!" Rock dramatically exclaimed and he clenched his fist as he glared up at the ceiling, as if he was cursing Nami in his head or something.
"You both don't even look like you guys wear any hair gel!" I quickly pointed out and then angrily asked, "Why are you even trying to break into her room right now?!"
Rock chuckled, somewhat evilly. "Heh heh... I heard a rumor that Nami holds a secret object in her room... so I want to find it to get back at her! And possibly blackmail her! I'm tired of the humiliation, of her killing my vibe all the time! It's outrageous!"
Without hesitation, I forcibly pushed him away from Nami's door and stood in front of it protectively, having both of my arms spread out.
"As long as I'm here, I'm not going to let you break into her room! And I'm telling your parents!" I exclaimed angrily.
Rock huffed and flipped his hair, chuckling even more. "Look Babe, I'll let Nami off easy today...because I just can't fight with that pretty face...but mark my words... Nami will one day rue the day of ever making a fool of 'The Rock'!"
With that, the blond haired lunatic stormed into his room and slammed the door. As soon as Rock had slammed the door, Nami's door suddenly opened from behind me as it made a low creaking sound. I inwardly gasped and immediately went into her room, briskly closing it before Rock could come back out and realized that he did in fact unlock it after all.
It's a good thing I was there, because it seems Rock did pick the lock without even realizing it...
My eyes widened ever so slightly at seeing that same diary I always see on Nami's desk - it was wide open, as if it was recently written in. I cautiously approached the diary to read:
'She is... Four Hearts...'
I blushed furiously and couldn't stop my heart from fluttering. Is she really writing her feelings about me in here...? Am I just outrageously kidding myself and giving myself false hope? ... Oh no, I hope her diary wasn't the secret item that Rock was looking for-
"Hey."
I gasped and immediately whipped around to see Nami, her flashing me one suspicious look.
Before she could even interrogate on why I was in her room, I hastily blurted out, "Rock was trying to break into your room!"
Nami rolled her eyes. "Yeah, he tries to do that every week or something... It's whatever."
"W-What?! Well, he actually managed to open the door this time! But the doofus didn't even realize it! And that's why I'm in your room right now, because I noticed he had unlocked it!" I exclaimed frantically while waving my arms around.
Nami sighed and began to casually walk toward me. "I'll talk to Tei and Lou about it. Don't worry."
Suddenly, Nami pulls out her chair and sits down on her desk, literally writing in her same diary that I just had read seconds before.
I started blushing and shyly averted my eyes so she couldn't catch me looking. Nami then points at her bed, gesturing for me to sit down.
"I was trying to avoid a conversation outside with Tei earlier, so that's why I came back here. Why don't you just hang out here for awhile and chill?" Nami suggested rather nonchalantly as she then turned on her radio which played some calming music. She then picked up a book about traveling and began reading.
"I'm not really in a talking mood right now... but I guess I'll make an exception for you. I'm just going to read and listen to the radio, we can talk here and there," Nami casually stated without looking at me, her sapphire eyes scanning the pages of her book.
Dumbfounded, I stood there blushing up a storm. So she doesn't feel like talking much, yet she's okay with just having my presence here, even if we just sit in silence? ...
I was not expecting Nami to invite me to hang out in her room at all today and not just for a short time, she said for awhile...
Does Nami really have romantic feelings for me...?
Author Note: Hehe hope you guys liked this chapter! Can't wait to write the next one! Thank you to all of those who have read and reviewed so far :) and yes I know I make Rock crazy here, but that's how I always write him in all of my stories xD pretty much how my younger brother and I viewed him when we would play the game when I was younger, haha.
