You know what's funny I wrote all of these first chapters like they were the first chapters of the arcs in the same story but in a way that they branch off and do their own things… and now that I think about it, it kind of works. This is a passion project that I started during COVID-19 that became a spider's web plot of a deconstruction(Because I LOVED concepts of MVA and Vigilante but hated them afterward). So that you can understand [Project Blacklight], [Project Contrast], and [Project Saturation] are all in the middle of this web, and are all canon to each other. [Blacklight] is the prequel to all of this, the big bang if you will, anyway it's the beginning of all of this, the first story of the project both chronologically and in real life.
So let's talk about [Blacklight] I came up with the idea from the class system in MHA, it was supposed to be the "Villain" story of the set with [Contrast] being the "Vigilante" story and [Saturation] being the "Hero" finale. As for the class system, I wanted to go in-depth with how the average person in MHA would see the world if it was built on the strength of Quirks. Think of it as the stronger or more utility you have in your Quirk the better off you will be in life, and on the other end people without or with mutations that have one or no utility will be on the lower end. You see this most in the chapters Black Strings of Fate and Preparation. From how Izuku's classmates react to him having a Quirk to how Inko reacted, Izuku's classmates responded as if the idea that Izuku could have a Quirk was an impossibility, that no one could escape the class that they were born in, because of what they were conditioned to believe versus what Inko, Rei, and the Urarakas instilled into their children. This first and foremost is the story of those children and their relationships with others and each other.
I had gotten a private message during the first arc of [Blacklight] that I just finished that said that they liked the friendship of Ochako, Shoko(Fem!Todoroki), and Izuku... But it felt like Shoko wasn't the "main girl" or romantic interest for Izuku despite the story being tagged that way, and I replied to the message with the fact that it's by design, it's her story. I want to expand on that reply by looking at the relationship between Ochako and Izuku, pulling it back a bit. Although Ochako has a great Quirk her parents however don't, in fact, her Quirk is what is called a "First Generation'' Quirk(If you want to know how Quirks work in Project Hue I can explain) meaning she has something that the rich and powerful want, one of the strongest Quirks in the world or a mutation that did not exist before. In this context, like All Might giving One For All to Izuku, she has the chance to give her baby her gravity Quirk on steroids. With that context, they have the same background and in a Quirk-based class society they would be considered the same, and with their upbringing they would obviously look out for each other, making them fast friends.
While you have Izuku and Shoko despite the difference in upbringing they represent the old way or in the case of All For One the way the world should be, equals that compliment and make each other better. The world or at least Japan(Cough Cough) is fucked the way it's going and it isn't going to benefit anyone, or that's what he believes. That's where a relationship like this one comes in, they are the ideal and will advance with the plot. You are going to see this with the others as well, the idea of the ideal form of existence, I am going to play with that idea for a bit before they become intimate and how this world is going to chip away at their resolves and make them despise it more and more over time, dragging Ochako with them. What should be a classic hero's journey and romance is twisted by a question and statement "Do you still want to be a hero?" and "I hope someone comes to save you too" coming up over and over again. So yeah... A classic friends-to-lovers relationship.
So let's finish up with the main character Shoko "Sho" Todoroki, the classic rich girl with daddy issues, and anger issues... And a nuke in her back pocket. Thinking about it her joining the dark side might be a matter of when and not if. She is actually pretty rounded and down to earth which was Rei and Fuyumi's doing most likely. she is a good kid raised right and wants the smoke with Endeavour anytime, anywhere... Someone should probably do something about that. Her Quirk was a rework of Half Hot Half Cold (can talk about that naming sense, I get making an invisible girl for the lols... But come on), it now regulates her temperature, turns everything in a 1 km diameter either to dust or freezes it instantly aka fire that is the same heat as the surface of the sun... Hmmm.
What else can I say without spoilers? Let's see. Her favorite pastime is watching hero videos. Her favorite food is umm... Okonomiyaki. She and Ochako are the youngest of the girls in 1-A with a birthday in December, and she is the second tallest among the girls at 167cm coming in second again to... Momo... Huh(that's not a theme or anything, comedy).
Well anyway, I got to go, I will cover [Lady For One] next time, talk to you then. Don't forget if you have any questions feel free to ask. Don't ask about Tsuyu. I will troll and deflect.
