"There are over 32,000 known species of spiders in the world," The tour guide stated, as she was leading the Midtown High students around the massive circular interior. "'They are in the order Aranae, which is divided into three sub-orders... "

As the tour guide was giving her lecture, Peter couldn't help but feel like living in a paradise when he saw all the scientists working with their experiments with the most sophisticated lab equipment.

"Wow, this is amazing," Peter said in awe, pointing at the large round-shaped object in the center of the interior with flat monitors connected to it. "That is the most advanced electron microscope on the Eastern seaboard. It's unreal."

"Wow," Harry mumbled with a bored tone.

Gwen, on the other hand, agreed with Peter. "I mostly prefer reptiles than arachnids, but that microscope is impressive."

As they were following the tour guide around, Peter glanced slightly to see Mary Jane, who was becoming annoyed with how Flash was nuzzling around with her red hair. When MJ swatted his hand away, she turned to see Peter looking at her, but quickly faced away.

"... In their constant search for food," The tour guide continued her lecture, directing the students to one of glass cages that was containing the spiders. "For example, the Delena spider - family Sparassidae - has the ability to jump to catch its prey."

Peter gestured his camera to the tour guide. "For school picture?"

Flash and his friends scoffed at the nerd, some of which either shook their heads or rolled their eyes. The tour guide nodded as an okay for Peter to take the photo.

Peter got the idle spider in frame and focused. He clicked the shutter, only to be bumped in the elbow by Flash, making the camera jumped out of view, leaving him with nothing but a blurred image of the side of the glass cage.

Peter glared back at Flash and his friends as they were smirking before pushing him towards the next display the tour guide's showcasing.

"The next we have is a net-web spider, family Filistatidae, genus Kukulcania. Spins a funnel-shaped web whose strands have a tensile strength, proportionately equal to the high-tension wires used in bridges," The tour guide explained.

Peter raised his camera to try going for another shot again, but got bumped once more, this time by one of Flash's friends. He glared back at them once more. Harry and Gwen realized their best friend was being harassed.

"Leave him alone," Harry warned.

"Or what?" One of Flash's friends challenged.

"Or his father will fire your father," Flash mocked, his friends snickered while offering each other a high-five. He gripped onto Harry's coat, making him look face-to-face. "What's daddy gotta do? Sue me?"

Gwen tilted her head with a cheeky smile. "May I remind you, that there have been certain laws to act against bullies?" She threatened. "I'd hate to have to inform my father that someone's being abused at school."

"What is going on?" The science teacher hissed from behind Flash, making him and his friends turned lip silent. "The next person talks will fail this course. I kid you not," He motioned his shoulder to stay with the rest of the class. "Let's go."

The tour guide stood next to the third display. "The crab spider hunts using a set of reflexes with nerve conduction velocities so fast. Some researchers believe it almost borders on precognition, an early awareness of danger..."

Peter walked with Harry and Gwen. "Those guys are jerks," He muttered.

The two nodded in agreement, each giving a reassuring pat on his shoulders.

"... A 'spider sense'," The tour guide shrugged with a smile.

Harry pointed to the small glass cages nearby, each containing spider that was nested cozily in its web inside. "Hey, look at that spider."

"Some spiders change their color to blend in with their environment. It's a defence mechanism," Peter whispered in a matter-factly voice.

Harry rolled his eyes. "Peter... what makes you think I want to know that?"

"Who wouldn't?" Peter asked rhetorically.

Gwen rested her hand on Peter's shoulder. "Pete, you're a great guy, but you've never been one for tact."

Peter gave a little smile before rejoining with the rest of his peers.

The tour guide still continued her lecture. "Over five painstaking years, Colombia Genetics research facility has... "

Harry stopped where was he walking and gestured Peter to MJ. "Well, gotta talk to her now?"

"Oh, no," Peter softly scoffed, before turning to his blonde best friend.

"Hey, don't look at me," Gwen shrugged. "You should be the one taking a shot."

Still thinking the thought was ridiculous, Peter turned back to Harry. "Then, you talk to her."

Harry raised his eyebrow as he shrugged. "Alright," He said nonchalantly, before strolling up to the redhead.

MJ looked at the small glass cages with web nests within them. "Disgusting."

Harry walked up to MJ's side, pretending to agree. "Yeah, hateful little things."

"But I love them," MJ giggled, still keeping her eyes on the cages.

Harry quirked an eyebrow before shifting gears. "Hey, me too."

MJ gave Harry a weird look at his sudden change in opinions. Peter and Gwen were standing behind the two, the former thinking Harry couldn't impress Mary Jane.

"You know, spiders can change their color to blend in with their environment," Harry repeated what Peter said earlier to MJ.

She seemed genuinely intrigued by that scientific fact. "Really?"

"Yeah, it's a defence mechanism," Harry added.

"Cool."

Peter's eyes enlarged in surprise when MJ was impressed with his words that Harry repeated to her. The latter just glanced back over his shoulders, giving a 'I had no idea' look. Gwen placed her hands on her hips, facing at Peter with a 'told you' look on her face.

"... Transfer RNA to encode an entirely new genome, combining the genetic information from all three spiders into these fifthteen genetically designed super-spiders," The tour guide stated.

Mary Jane was looking inside the fifthteen glass cages, but noticed one of them with no spider in sight. "There's fourteen," She pointed out to the tour guide.

The tour guide tilted her head in confusion. "I beg your pardon?"

"One's missing," MJ pointed to the empty glass cage.

Harry noticed it too. "Yeah."

The tour guide looked over the two's shoulders to inspect the empty glass cage. "Huh."

Unknown to the inhabitants of the science building, that same missing spider was hanging right above in the corner ceiling of the interior, where it spun its own nest of webs. The spider remained in the center as it was looking down over the Midtown High students.

"I guess the researchers was working on that one," The tour guide assumed.

As the tour guide moved on to check with the researchers, Harry pointed at the large microscope in the center of the interior. "Did you know that was THE largest microscope in the Eastern seaboard?"

Before MJ could get more interested, the science teacher walked over to Harry's side. "You were speaking during that entire woman's presentation," He muttered, giving him a cold shoulder. "Let's go talk about how we listen."

After Harry and the rest of the students followed out with their science teacher, Gwen noticed Peter didn't move from his spot, still eyeing MJ as she was looking at the glass cages.

"C'mon, Pete. This is your chance to shine," Gwen encouraged her best friend with a nudge.

Peter still felt unsure. "But, what if she still doesn't like me or thinks I'm weird or something?"

"Pete, I know you have a crush on her since the fourth grade," Gwen stated.

Peter scoffed at how Gwen knew about that fact. "Did Harry told you that?"

Gwen still continued. "Pete, I know how you tend to act in these kind of situations. You're gonna live with a gaping hole in your heart if you don't give her a chance. Just at least try, okay?" She said, before leaving the boy with his thoughts alone.

After contemplating to himself about the blonde's words, Peter walked up to the redhead to try impress her in his own way. "Hey," MJ turned to him. "Uh, can I take your picture? I need one with a student in it," He said, gesturing to his camera.

"Sure," MJ nodded in approval. "Where do you want me? Oh, right over here?" She moved back towards the fifthteen glass cages.

"Yeah, yeah, that's great," Peter moved a few feet backwards for a better framing position.

"Don't make me look ugly," MJ teased, stroking her hair.

"That's impossible," Peter smiled, much to MJ's blush, before lifting his camera.

MJ was giggling nervously when she stood next to the glass cages, posing herself casually as she could.

Peter clicked the camera shutter, taking his first photo of MJ. "Ah, perfect."

Meanwhile above, the spider spun another web, dangling off its nest downwards to the two Midtown High students that were standing beneath it.

"That good?" MJ asked, after Peter took another shot of her pose.

"Great," Peter complimented, before raising his camera back to his face.

MJ attempted another pose, this time pointing at her papers with an exaggerated surprised expression.

As Peter was still taking another beautiful shot of the redhead, the spider landed its hairy legs on boy's index finger when he was pushing the advance lever on his camera, crawling along his right hand.

"MJ, let's go."

MJ looked to her left to see Liz calling out to her. She turned back to Peter. "How about we go for one more photo?" She said with a raised finger.

Sensing a swell of happiness inside when MJ kindly stayed for one more shot, Peter gave a quick nod, preparing to click his shutter.

Still crawling inconspicuously on Peter's right hand, the spider was moving its hairy legs to the spot in between his index finger and thumb. In one frightening strike, it jabbed its two sharp jaws into his hand.

"Ow!" Peter shrieked in reaction to the sharp pain. He dropped his camera down, making the spider dropped to the floor from his right hand.

Mary Jane gasped in worry when she heard Peter's scream. "Oh my god, are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, just a bug bite," Peter reassured the redhead. He tried peaking at the floor to see where the spider crawling, only for it to somehow disappeared out of sight.

"Let me see," MJ said, quickly walked up to him to try take a look at Peter's bitten hand.

Before she could get a chance to inspect the bite further, the science teacher called for their attention. "Parker! Watson! Let's do it."

"That's okay, MJ," Peter said, not wanting her to worry too much. "Let's just get outta here."

Mary Jane couldn't help but shown a little concern on her face as Peter was walking his way to catch up with the rest of their classmates. Before she could join as well, she felt something crawling up to her right ankle. She looked down to see that same spider positioned in between her ankle and feet.

Like what it did to Peter, it quickly bit her with its sharp jaws.

"Ahhh!" MJ screamed in pain, immediately dropping down to her knees in response to its horrifying bite on her ankle.

In reaction to its bite, MJ quickly smacked it hard with her hand, squashing it to death. After it fell dead on the floor, she carefully inspected at the now-dead spider that was laying on its back. When MJ lowered her head to see the two bite marks on her leg, she couldn't help but winced at the sight of it, scared she probably got an infection from it.

"Ms. Watson? Are you coming?" The science teacher asked again.

"Yeah, I'll catch up with you in a sec," MJ said, trying to put the spider bite behind her mind and stood up from the floor to find her classmates.

A/N: Now we see where the reality branched from its prime counterpart. Sometimes one change in one moment can have a massive after-effect.

With that being said, any constructive criticisms and comments would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy reading this chapter. Can't wait to explore more of this branched reality down the road.

Reviews:

Rivet94: Thanks for your kind words. And yes, I'm also curious myself on what a Raimi take on Spinneret would be like; it's always something that's been jumping around my head since I made this account, hence why I want to give it a try.

Guest 4/5/2022: I actually never thought about adding any Spectacular elements, but I can consider it if it benefits this fanfic story in the future chapters.

Bountyhunter1977: Thanks for being understanding about my first take on a fanfic. Trust me, if I started doing fanfics around the time I started this account, I'd probably get around 500 words at best due to my horrible inexperiences in writing, so hopefully I got it at a good beginner's length.

And no apologies for going overboard with your imagination lo. But I'll let you know this, I will not do any of that mature content stuff, because it always makes me feel a bit too uncomfortable. Sorry for being a letdown if that's what you're excited to see.
