Mary Jane didn't need her Spider-Senses to feel the tension in the air when the casting director was twiddling with her fingers in front of her, as if she was pondering in deep thought.
Maybe there's a downside to living this double life than I thought, MJ thought to herself, beginning to doubt herself for deciding to live a life of a crime-fighter, as she was nervously holding script page she read her lines from.
Earlier, MJ almost arrived late to her audition after doing her own rounds of web-swinging patrol. When she walked into the room with the casting director for the first time, MJ couldn't help but notice the way the she was giving a cold look with recognition, as if she somehow knew the redhead the instant she stumbled upon her doorstep.
MJ, of course, tried to shrug the thought aside, thinking that's how the audition normally goes when it came to looking for potential talent. Little did she realized, that's not the case.
"Normally, Ms. Watson, I'd say 'Very nice, thank you, next,' and move on with the audition," The casting director said coldly. "But I think I'd be doing you a disservice."
"You would?" Mary Jane said, feeling unsure about where this was going.
"Yes. But I'm going to make an exception in this case."
MJ looked up with a hopeful smile as her heart was beating excitedly. "You are?"
"I am," The casting director said dryly. "Ms. Watson, when I asked your agent if he had any fresh young ingenue types with red hair, your agent gave me the impression he was sending a professional over. Someone with promise. The reading you gave was hopelessly amateurish. Hopelessly, as in, no hope of improvement."
MJ's smile turned to a depressing frown upon hearing those words, even though she thought she really did gave her best acting performance. She quickly forced a smile, though, to cover up the frown. "Really?"
"Really. At the very least, I'd recommend acting lessons. A lot. For a long time. At the very most," The casting director said with a nonchalant shrug, "I'd recommend finding some nice guy to settle down with to take care of you. In the meantime, don't quit your day job."
All the little hope MJ had was ripped in a instant. She felt her anger rising to the surface, but tried her best to push it down. "I appreciate your candor," She said gravelly.
"Good," The casting director smirked. She then cleared her throat when she noticed MJ didn't move from her spot. "Okay, we've now come to the part where I say, 'Thank you, next.' You'll forgive me if I skip the part where I say 'very nice.' Doesn't seem appropriate."
"Well, good," MJ said, fighting to keep her voice even. "And if it's all the same to you, we'll skip the part where I deck you. That wouldn't be appropriate, either," She then left the room with an audible hmph.
As she walked out of the building and crumpled her audition script into a messy paper ball, MJ wrapped on her trench coat around her when she noticed the weather started to look like it's about to start raining soon. At the moment, MJ felt so misery with herself to the point she wished her hero or at least someone with a reassuring smile would swing by and comfort her.
Speaking of which.
"Hey, it's me again."
Mary Jane quickly turned when her name was called from behind. She expressed in happy shock when she saw Peter walking up to her again from out of nowhere. "Hey."
"How was your audition?" Peter asked eagerly.
MJ was bewildered by the fact he somehow knew about it. "How'd you know?"
"The hot line," Peter said, as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. "Your mom... told my aunt, told me."
MJ titled her head in curiosity. "So, you just came by?"
"I was in the neighborhood. Needed to see a friendly face. I took two buses and a cab to get in the neighborhood," Peter admitted in a nonchalantly, yet excited tone. "So, how'd it go?"
MJ shrugged a bit. "They said I needed acting lessons. A soap opera told me I needed acting lessons," She giggled, as well as Peter.
"Let me buy you a cheeseburger," Peter offered. "The sky's the limit, up to $7.84."
"I'd like a cheeseburger," Then, MJ remembered something. "Oh, but I'm going out to dinner with Harry. We can bring you and Gwen along."
Peter shook his head, declining the offer. "No thanks. How's it going with...?" His words trailed off, thinking he shouldn't pry too much into it. "Never mind. That's none of my business."
"It's not?" MJ said, still puzzled about Peter's motive for finding her again. "Why so interested?"
"I'm not," Peter said with a light shrug.
"You're not?" MJ asked softly.
"Well, why would I be?" Peter said, as if it was just a rhetorical question.
MJ couldn't help smile a little at how such a cute nerd like him made her heart fluttered. "I don't know. Why would you be?"
"I... that's a... " Peter stumbled his words, his emotions tried to reach to the surface, but failed. "I don't know."
"Sorry you won't come with us," MJ suddenly felt another familiar, yet strange sensation when she looked at Peter again. Before she could ask any more, the rainy storm then stared to occur, breaking her train of thought. "I'd better run, tiger," She said with a graceful smile, before turning away.
As Peter still looked to see the lovely redhead walking off to the next street, he saw a few hoodlums taking notice of her and walked after her. Fearing the worse, Peter looked for spot to reach for the rooftops and change into his Spider-Man suit.
As the hoodlums were still trailing behind MJ, a couple of more started appearing. They tried taunting at her with sounds of roars, smooches and flirty words to grab her attention, but they didn't seem to faze her.
Little did they know, MJ felt her Spider-Sense warning her of those hoodlums creeping on her. When she spotted a dark alleyway from the far corner of her eye, MJ decided to play along and walked hastily towards that area, where she could disappear from sight and change into her suit.
When the hoodlums saw MJ ran into the alleyway, they tried to sprint after her, hoping to trap her inside the one spot they thought she was foolishly walking into. But, as they looked into it, the alleyway was empty, leaving them dumbfounded that the girl somehow disappeared.
"Are you lost, gentlemen?"
The hoodlums immediately spun around when they heard a feminine voice behind them. They saw the Spectacular Spinneret in her red-and-white suit, her hands were hanging around her hips, as if she just caught a hand full of troublemakers, which they actually were.
"Do you know it's rude to creep on a defenceless girl at this time of rainy night?" Spinneret quipped.
"First some clown in red tights, now a chick?" One of the hoodlums was baffled by another appearance of another Spider in town. "What next? There's gonna be a circus of you freaks?"
Feeling insulted by such a remark, Spinneret pushed forward in a blink of an eye and lifted her one leg into that hoodlum's stomach, swiftly kicking him with his back landing hard against a brick wall, giving the others no chance to react to the incredible speed that just happened right in front of them.
Spinneret then turned to rest of the hoodlums, spreading her legs and arms in her own fighting stance, already prepared for the next round. "Well, you're gonna have one heck of a fun time than you'll have at a circus."
The hoodlums tried engaging against the all-new heroine, but their efforts were already proven futile as Spinneret just simply grabbed one by the arms and rolled him over to the side effortlessly. She then shot twin webs at the next hoodlum's face, pulling his head down low enough for her to flip over to the other two behind him, striking her two feet in their chests before doing a quick sweeping kick at their legs to break their balance.
Sensing the one she flipped over about to throw his fist at her from behind, Spinneret smoothly moved her head out of the way and let her foot out, making him tripped and landed his head hard onto the wet pavement, knocking him out indefinitely.
"Aww, I'm sure you punks can do better next time," Spinneret gave a final taunt to the hoodlums as she placed her hands on her hips.
Unsuspectedly, the hoodlum she grabbed and rolled over earlier slowly recovered his footing. Before he could charge at her from behind, a web was attached to his back, though not from Spinneret, pulling him away and knocked him against a pane glass window.
"Looks like someone managed to handle the superhero life fine on their own."
When Spinneret heard someone called out, she turned around and looked up, only to be surprised to see her hero hanging upside down from a web that was attached to a nearby lamp post. Spinneret quickly recomposed herself. "Well, you seem to somehow stop by and find me. I think I got a kindred spirit looking out for me," She joked in her own teasing voice.
"I was in the neighborhood," Spider-Man chuckled. "I hope you don't mind me asking, Miss... ?"
"Spinneret," She introduced herself, a little prideful smile appeared under her mask when she spoken out her self-proclaimed name to her beloved hero.
"How did you come by to what you are, Miss Spinneret?" Spider-Man asked curiously, somehow forgotten he was meant to be tailing Mary Jane, despite being oblivious to the fact that same redhead was actually standing in front of him.
"To be honest, I don't know how I got my powers. But since I discovered them and after seeing you doing some good out there, well, let's just say, your heroics really inspired me," Spinneret said genuinely.
"Not many people like me in the same way you do," Spider-Man said downheartedly.
"Doesn't change the fact you're truly amazing," Spinneret praised, her voice was laced with charming tone to it as she was slowly walking towards her hero.
"Nice to meet a fan," Spider-Man appreciated her words.
Spinneret, her face already inches away from his, felt something inside urging her to be with her hero. "Do I get a chance to thank you, at least?" She said softly.
"For what?" Spider-Man asked, confused by her choice of words. He also felt that same urge that was driving him towards her.
"For saving me," Spinneret whispered vaguely and lovingly. She then raised her hands up to his cheeks.
"Wait," Spider-Man blurted out, but for some reason, made no effort to stop what she was about to do next, like something inside him desired for her to come closer.
Spinneret stopped for a moment, then slowly, she moved her hands to around the ends of Spider-Man's mask, carefully pulling it back to reveal his mouth before doing the same with her own.
Even though the storm was heavily pouring wet around them, the two Spiders didn't seem to notice or even care, as their inner desire to be closer to one another was driven by a sensational impulse they had experience before, but not to this strongest extend.
Without a thought to react, their lips collided with one another, giving the most intimate kiss they ever experienced, despite neither being aware of who's under their masks. It just felt right, like they always belonged together.
Finally, they distanced themselves after their unexpected, passionate love to one another. Spinneret slowly put his mask back down to his chin, though, she still left her's opened.
Spider-Man was left frozen by the revelation of that kiss. "Wow... " Shaking out of his trance, he realized what was happening and shot another web, lifting himself high to the sky out of view.
Spinneret looked up in awe, her eyes remained in the air, even when he disappeared from her sights and the rain continued pouring on her face. She placed her hand on her own lips, still thinking about that best kiss she ever experienced.
This night will be the best one to remember. She said in her own deep, lovely thought.

A/N: Finally made it, folks. Our (Currently Unofficial) Spider-Couple finally making their first best kiss of the decade. Ain't that cute?
And yep, my readers, I finally recovered from my first contact with Covid and just in time to give this chapter on Christmas Eve.
That said, now the holidays just right around the corner, there'll be another irregular update for the next chapter. But don't worry, I'm still not going anywhere. I promise this fanfic will reach to its end, and no way am I breaking that promise now. Besides, consider this as a nice present to read during your lovely holiday.
With that said, any constructive criticisms and comments would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy reading this chapter.
Reviews:
Rivet94: Thx. I knew I have to add something to the mix, so it would be funny to see what would be the characters' reactions to the sudden appearance of MJ's alter ego.
CT311998: You so thought it right. *wink*
DCDGojira: Appreciated your kind words, man.
Guest 25/11/2022: Thanks for your supportive words. Luckily, my symptoms wasn't anything serious. Just a sneezes and coughs (thou having chest pains sure wasn't fun) before a good well-enough sleep to past the time during my recovery.
Commander 117: While I (sorta) plan to do a No Way Home story somewhere down the line, sorry, no future tech for my Spidey-Couple. Last thing I want is add some unnecessary toy accessories that'll have no importance to the heroes' story. Already got enough of those from Tom Holland's Spider-Man (Don't take that as a diss at him, I still love to see where his variant's future would go in later films).
Dragonwarrior06: OMG, I can't believe you're reading this. Love your Spectacular Spiders Season 3 story wholeheartedly (Especially with your take on Gwen Stacy as Ghost Spider and PeterXGwen relationship). It's one of the few reasons why I want to do a take on my own Spider-Man fanfic.
It's so awesome to see another Spectacular(hehe) fan like you coming in to read my story. Can't wait for your next episode, man. *Gives thumbs up*
