Waver Velvet had essentially three jobs.
The least important was teaching... as funny as that sounded. He was expected go guide the bright, albeit insane minds of young mages into a good path. Typically he failed horribly and they just became more insane. Somehow people praised him for this.
His second most important job was acting as a Lord of the Clock Tower. Though he admitted didn't do much, and just tended to smile and wave until his supposed sister showed up and took his stop momentarily. Though it was more accurate to say she was momentarily retaking her spot.
By far his most important job was the third... which was making sure a teenager was happy at all times.
Naturally, most people would be weirded out by his job, but when those people learned that this teenager could destroy countries, things would suddenly make a lot more sense.
And right now, he was rushing to Japan, so he could keep making that teenager happy, but...
He grit his teeth. "Reines, why are you following me? How are you following me?" To his side was Gray. To his other side was his annoying adopted little sister who had somehow sneaked into a plane with him!
She chuckled. "How? I just paid for the ticket..." She started at the window. "You are flying pretty cheap... Is this because of the massive debt you owe? Trying to conserve money?"
"Of course. It may not seem like a huge amount, but things like that add up over time." He wasn't even close to paying that debt.
Especially since his third job didn't actually pay him much. It just gained him prestige... how useless. Well, it was admittedly nice to have people who would usually shit talk him scrambling away out of fear because they didn't want to disrespect a Campione's servant.
She rolled her eyes. "Ugh, the struggles of the poor." She talked as if her family wasn't in deep shit. "Can't you just use whatever amount of money and just put on the Campione's tab? Abuse your position for once."
Waver was glad he wasn't that stupid. "It's this type of attitude that will get you killed... Or in other words, please don't even mention abusing something like that in front of Lord Shibata." He didn't think the teenager would mind, actually.
But here's the thing about figures like him... Making assumptions could easily get someone killed. Because what if he did mind? What if he was in a bad mood?
Risking his life, and the lives of countless others wasn't worth such little reward. So Waver had been dealing with him as if he was a small King of Heroes. Even if he appeared to be happy and content, it was always good to be as respectful as one could possibly be.
Reines pouted. "I'm not stupid... But back on the how and the why over me follow you... The how was simple, many students saw your little meltdown. So I began stalking you to see if anything exciting was happening."
"To no one's surprise, I caught you getting ready to travel to Japan, and so I decided to follow you." She didn't actually know what his meltdown was about, but if he was going to Japan, then the king of that country was definitely involved.
"And now for the why... C'mon, I need to meet him!" She was extremely curious about the newest Campione.
Really, she was curious about any and all Campiones, but fate seemed against her meeting any of them. She had even failed to meet the Black Prince, who actually lived in London.
Which was probably a good thing. He had "borrowed" many items from her family across the years, and she just knew she wouldn't be able to resist calling him a thief to his face.
Waver pinched his nose. "That doesn't fill me with confidence..." He looked at his assistant. "Alright, as soon as we land, take Reines back home immediately." This wasn't the time to be risking things.
Reines flinched. "No need for that! I promise I will behave!" Normally she would never ever act like this towards her supposed older brother.
But she understood just how important his approval was in this situation. If he whispered in the Campione's ears that she should be avoided, then Yato Shibata would probably follow his advice. Which meant she wouldn't get to have any fun.
Waver ignored her pleas, for the sake of his own sanity if nothing else.
Which meant she was forced to plead to someone else. "Please help me convince my stupid brother, Gray!" She was good friends with the girl, so surely she would be on her side!?
The grave keeper simply pulled her hood down even more. She really had become neurotic about hiding her face recently. "I think teacher is right. Sorry." This was for Waver's own good.
As Reines's face slowly became filled with disappointment, Gray sighed. "He's a pervert. You shouldn't get near him." Hearing her of all people call someone a pervert was certainly a rare sight. It really was the best way to describe Yato Shibata however.
Waver nodded. "A super pervert. The best case scenario for a woman when near him, is being sexually enslaved. The worst case scenario is the end of the world." And somehow he was still one of the better Campiones.
Reines huffed. "Cleary that isn't true. Gray here met him and she has yet to kneel between a man's legs."
Gray blushed, but nodded nonetheless. "That's... true, but I met him once he had just learned about what a Campione was. Teacher said he has gotten worse overtime."
Indeed, as Yato Shibata learned more and more just how powerful he truly was, he abused his authority more and more. A surprisingly human thing coming from a Campione.
She continued. "But even back then his first order was to turn a classmate of his into a s-sex slave... And I don't think he even knew her that well." Did that make things better or worse?
Reines looked away. "Okay... I cannot deny that he is a pervert, but I'm going anyways. It will be fun." She began playing with her hair. "B-besides..." It was clear she was being shy about something.
Unusual, very unusual. So clear Waver immediately became suspicious. "Spit it." He had a feeling he would not like her answer.
Reines took a deep breath. "Very well, let me just come out and say it... I'm in love with Yato Shibata." His brain froze. "It was love at first sight really. The thing of fairy tales." Normally she woulf scoff at such a thing, but that had changed.
Waver just knew he was going to become bald before his fourties. "I see. Please skip to the part where you smirk with condensation at me, while teasing me about my naiveté." It had to be a shitty joke. It had to be.
Instead of doing that however, she glared at him. "H-hey, don't mock a maiden in love! Even for you that's pretty low!" Even for him!? "I am not trying to mock anyone here, for once I'm being... vulnerable. So please respect that."
She cleared her throat. "Now, I know you must be feeling quite awful due to your previous mistakes. However, fret not, for there is a easy way to gain my forgiveness. Simply allow me to meet with Lord Shibata."
Waver felt quite awful due to his previous mistakes. "You are not meeting Yato Shibata." Those previous mistakes being the fact that he had ever met this woman.
Reines grit her teeth. "But...!"
He quickly cut her off. "Why have you even fallen for Lord Shibata!? Don't tell me you are a secret childhood friend of his or something to that nature?" He did not need another Luvia.
Actually, having another Luvia to act as bait could be super useful. The only problem here was that Reines was kind of the worst, and would definitely make mistakes that could lead to the end of the human race.
She crossed her arms. "No, I am not his childhood friend." She had never met the man face to face.
Gray interjected. "Could it be that this is a political things...? In that case I do not recommend chasing Lord Shibata." The pros did not outweigh the cons.
Sure, if Reines became his lover then her family would very quickly rise to prominence once again... but she would also be forced into becoming a deviant woman who thought of nothing, except for sex!
Gray missed Luvia... Without a doubt the poor blonde had long ago been degraded into a nymphomaniac who could only think about sex all day, and had abandoned any other previous dreams she had!
Reines waved her off. "I am not after Lord Shibata for political clout. In fact, even if he was a pauper, my heart would still belong to him." It was nice that he wasn't though!
Gray raised an eyebrow. "T-then perhaps you wish to have a child with him...?" If the child inherited anything from his father, the Archibald family would be forever blessed.
"Well, as a magus I would welcome any children." She smirked. "And naturally, I'm curious about the act... but no. That is also not why I am after Lord Shibata." She seemed almost disappointed that they hadn't guessed it yet.
Waver was just tired of it all. "Fine. I'll bite. Why exactly are you in love with Lord Shibata?" At this point he would just have to accept this.
If Yato Shibata learned that his own helper was hiding the existence of a conventionally attractive woman who in love with him, heads would roll. Not Waver's head however, for a far worse fate would be awaiting for him. Of that he was sure.
She raised a hand, touching her chest. "It all started when I first laid eyes upon him." So they had met already!? "Or a photo of him, to be more accurate." Oh. "I immediately fell in love. The end."
And suddenly Waver was sure he had died before getting into the plane and this was all his personal hell.
Or Reines had been playing with him all along, as he had guessed at the start. "Very funny. I hope you enjou the long travel back, young lady." Actually, he hoped the plane would crash.
Sure people would die, but at this point it was a worthy sacrifice.
She immediately poked his cheek, clearly trying to make him uncomfortable. "I'm not joking... I mean, have you seen him?" And for the first time, he was Reines gush over a man. "Those dreamy blue eyes... that bright smile... those beautiful locks of hair... Oh, he's just wonderful."
She had to be toying with him. Because while Waver would never say it out loud, Yato Shibata was not handsome enough to steal a woman's heart with his looks alone, especially a woman like Reines. Not to say he was ugly, he was a good looking teenager, it's just that he was no Helen of Troy.
She continued. "Honestly, I can see why he has built a harem. Who could resist him!? I'm surprised Gray isn't smitten with him already..." She glared at the assistant. "Unless you're my love rival, and is just really good at lying..." Which was typically her thing.
"N-no! I have no interest in Lord Shibata!" She did not want to become a mindless nympho...!
Reines squinted. "That's exactly what a love rival would say..." She chuckled. "Seriously though, I liked him as soon as I saw his picture, I don't know why either. Oh, but my love throughly began to skyrocket once I heard of his brave deeds."
Oh, now Waver finally understood. "Just... just don't cause problems." It was just a case of trash attracting trash.
"I won't." Now that Waver had finally relented, she was a happy girl.
In the end however, he decided to not tell her about why he was going to Japan... It would be hard, but until the preparations were in place, she could not learn of Yato Shibata's marriage with Aoko Aozaki.
Why you ask? Because he didn't buy this love shit for a second. She was definitely just looking for an excuse to cause trouble as usual. And he would not allow her!
"You better not."
Alice Kuonji had found a new calling life. It was herding a bunch of cats.
Except they were not cats, they were actually women who were deeply in love with the man she loved. Understandable, since Yato Shibata was pretty close to perfection in the form of a human... or Campione.
She cleared her throat. "So, any news worth reporting?" She needed to stay on top of the information game.
What was Aoko up to? What were Yato's parents up to? What was Yato himself up to?
The answer to the first question was that Aoko was tied up in a room, for her own good of course. The answer to the second is that they were having tea expertly prepared by the homunculus maids who lived in the mansion. And the answer to the third was... she didn't know.
Rin, the second-in-command answered. "Yes, Skadi left during the night." She was the second woman to mysteriously leave, following Luviagellita's footsteps.
Alice hummed. "That's your Servant, is it not? Did you notice any clues on why she left?" It felt crazy to casually talk about servants. About Heroic Spirits.
But she supposed that was just something she had to get used to when Yato was around. He always had that ability to whisk her away from borning modernity into whimsy fantasy. A place where she, as a Witch, felt most comfortable in. It was part of why she loved him so much.
Rin blushed. "Not really, sorry... Skadi and I aren't very close to each other." Well, it couldn't be helped then. "She is a goddess though, so she might be out to get revenge on him or something."
Alice's eyes lost their color. "We'll deal with her then." They did have a captured goddess... maybe they could use her. "Is that really it? No signs of Lord Shibata?" Her heart hurt.
Her heart hurt so much that it felt like she was going to die.
A Witch of her caliber could only die to an act of love, typically it was a insane advantage. Nowadays however, she felt like she could die at any moment due to her heart suddenly collapsing out of sadness.
I want to be near him. I need to be near him.
She could also die due to her heart suddenly collapsing out of happiness. Seeing Yato again had been such a good feeling... It truly was a shame that she now had to tear this little marriage of his apart.
Ah. Alice Kuonji truly could not have expected to fall so fast into the rabbit hole named love when she was a teenager. But she had, and as she had quickly found out, she could be quite a obsessive woman.
Obsessive enough that she never forgot him for years. That his existence was always in her heart for years. That she could not stop whispering his name lovingly for years... She loved him in a way only a twisted witch could.
In other words, if Alice Kuonji got her hands on a cellphone, she would be the type who messaged her boyfriend every three minutes.
Rin sighed. "Sadly not, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved with Skadi's disappearance. And he's definitely involved with Luvia's disappearance at least..." Just what was he planning...?
Rin genuinely didn't know. Yato was not smart, anyone could see that. He did have some amount of cunning however, especially when it came to stuff like this for some reason.
Suddenly, Sakura entered the room, cutting her thought process.
The girl was carrying two sets of clothes. "Excuse me for a second. But which one of these do you think would look better on me, Tohsaka-Senpai?" She tilted her head. "I asked Emiya-Senpai, but she's not very good with fashion."
Rin analyzed the two sets... One was pretty normal casual clothing. It would look cute on Sakura, because pretty much anything looked cute on her sister. The other was a white dress, and the same rules applied to it.
A tough choice. "Ditch the dress, casual wear is better for the day." That might just be her preference talking.
Sakura smiled. "Okay, thank you Tohsaka-Senpai!" And proceeded to leave the room, basically skipping... She had gotten over Yato surprisingly quick huh?
Weird, she was throwing everything she could find in the kitchen at people yesterday.
Leaving that aside, she could now go back to her previous train of thought... Just what was Yato planning...?
Alice sighed. "Just make sure to keep an eye on the city, Tohsaka. You're one of the few people I can trust here, so I'll be relying on you." Mostly because everyone else was a maniac.
Seriously, Soujuurou would look normal in this mansion.
Rin nodded. "And you're one of the few people I can rely on as well." Because she was the first woman she had met who showed no interest on Yato whatsoever.
The Witch had already made her intentions pretty clear. She was going to solve this mess because Aoko Aozaki was her friend, and that was it. She would leave after it. It felt nice, having someone who wasn't into her boyfriend around.
Yes, Alice Kuonji definitely didn't love Yato at all.
Alice chuckled. "Ah... To think Lord Shibata managed to found such a nice woman to stand by his side." Pretty, nice, skilled, intelligent... The whole package really.
As expected of the man she loved most in the world! He had good taste!
Sakura barged into the room again. "Hey Tohsaka-Senpai, sorry to bother again... Do you think lipstick is a no, or a yes?" Since when did Sakura care for that?
"Sakura, make-up is always a yes."
AN: I bought Unicorn Overlord. I will now play Unicorn Overlord. Elf sexo.
