Chapter 9

It's been about a week since I've met Ivy and we get along great!

We've been talking a lot about different things from ways to improve my magic, to all the different kinds of herbs. We've also talked learning about how to sense different animals in the forest and I've been getting pretty good at it. She says that my senses are getting better and sharper because of the shift coming up next week.

Once I asked why couldn't I see her in my head when I could hear her and sense her. She just replied, "Oh, you have to shift for the first time and after that, you'll be able to see me," I could sense her tail wagging excitedly at the answer.

We tried having her take over my body once as a test by the stream, but the only thing that happened was that my eyes changed colors from my regular brown to a bright blueish color. It was still pretty cool but not what we were trying to do.

I asked Ivy, why they were blue and she simply explained that it was her eye color and that we probably wouldn't be able to share a body or switch until my shift. We can still share sensory experiences through senses such as smell and taste.

She then taught me how to hide my scent and presence. When I asked her what I smelled like she told me I smelled like old books and once we shifted we would smell like old books and the wilderness.

Today, we were in the middle of checking traps and finding more herbs and firewood when Ivy suddenly told me it was going to start raining soon and that we should start heading back. By the time we got home, it already started pouring.

Well, that was close, I told her taking off my shoes.

Over time, I learned to communicate with Ivy through my thoughts, although I occasionally spoke to her aloud accidentally.

"Yeah, I think it's going to storm today it smells extremely earthy," she says, I nodded walking toward the stove with the wood to start a fire to keep us warm for the night.

As it turns out, it was a big storm with the whole shebang, with lighting and thunder.

As it was pouring outside, I decided to relax on the couch and read one of the books from the bookshelf. I picked up a book on random facts and lay down on the couch. While I was in the middle of reading I heard thunder and then I sensed something come through my barrier fast.

Too fast.

I sat up thinking it was probably a mistake, but then I sensed a person running towards my barrier. Ivy began to perk up sensing the same thing. I knew the person couldn't get through, as I sensed them ending up outside my barrier after walking in circles each time they tried.

Eventually, it seemed like they gave up and walked away, soon the rain stopped, and I decided to search for whatever came through the barrier.

I searched around the woods for a bit before finding something embedded inside two branches, at a closer look I realized it was a baseball.

As I pulled it out of the tree and looked at it closer wondering how it entered the barrier so fast, it clicked.

The Cullens play baseball when it storms, which means it must have been one of them trying to enter the barriers to get it back.

I shook my head walked back to the cabin, put the ball on my bookshelf, and went on with the rest of the day.
