A Drarry drabble written for Crissie! Thanks for helping out with Slytherin!
Draco strode confidently down the hallways of the Ministry of Magic, giving the occasional recognitional nod to those he passed. One arm was clasped around a big pile of paperwork that had been due to be dealt with months ago. He refused to wait any longer for somebody else to deal with it.
His pace got quicker as he got closer to his location.
A few more steps.
He pushed the door open, hearing it bang against the wall behind it, and marched in. His eyes glanced around and found the culprit of this large unsorted paperwork. "You," he growled, stepped forward, and dropped the pile onto the blond-mans desk. "If this isn't sorted out within the next few hours, you are fired. Do you understand?"
Rapid nods came from the newly recruited Auror who had failed to keep up with his paperwork and sent it off either half-completed or not even attempted.
"Draco," a curious voice said, catching his attention.
Draco allowed himself to glare at the blond for another second before relaxing his expression and turning around. "Harry," he replied.
Harry's eyes glanced to the pile of paperwork and then back to Draco. "He's still not sorted it out?"
"No, but he will."
Harry indicated for him to step away from the young eighteen-year-old, and he complied. "I'll deal with him and make sure he does it," he spoke gently when they got out of ear range. "He's having a difficult time."
Draco let out a puff of air. "Today."
Harry nodded. "I won't let him leave until it's done."
Draco gave him a conformational nod. "Good," he replied shortly as they both walked out of the room together, back into the hallway. "How haven't you fired him yet?"
"Everybody deserves a chance."
"I don't trust him. I don't trust that he'll have your back if you take him into the field. He's too…"
"Inexperienced?" Harry supplied.
Draco looked at him. "You really think he could be a good Auror?" He sighed at Harry's nod. "If he gets you killed, I will murder him."
The two of them shared a look. While they had only been officially dating for a couple of months, they had been unofficially dating for a lot longer. And the feelings were still in strong and sometimes uncontrollable. They were both still getting used to being fully public. However, that didn't make Draco's threat any less true.
"Glad to know I'll be avenged."
Draco rolled his eyes. Harry had gotten far too good at diplomatic answers. "Then again, if you are gone, I won't have to pretend I can stand Weasley." He shuddered at the thought. "Especially tomorrow's event. They'll all be there."
"Don't pretend you don't like playing their big Quidditch Matches."
"That's the only thing I like," Draco relented. It wasn't always too bad going there. "But don't make me talk to them."
Harry let out a quiet laugh and placed a hand on his shoulder. "You don't have to come. I can say you're working instead."
"No, I'll come. But I just won't be happy about it."
Despite having this conversation frequently, Draco usually went to Harry's events, just like Harry attended Draco's events. That's just how a relationship worked: Compromises.
