I had one of the strangest dreams that night.
I was in the middle of a huge auditorium sitting at a table. And in front, on stage, the spotlight shined on Raphtalia who was wearing a scarlet gown which really complimented her figure.
The announcer on stage said, "It's out. And the winner of the Best Streamer of the Year Award goes to... Raphtalia!"
The roar from the audience was nearly deafening.. People shouted lots of things: "We love, you Raphtalia!" "You're great Raphalia!". One desperate loser even said: "Please marry me Raphtalia!"
Raphtalia bowed and said, "Thank you all for all of your support. I couldn't have made it without you." After she finished this, there was another huge deafening round of applause. "But I couldn't have done this on my own. I've had a secret for some time- in reality, there's been someone who's always been supporting me and who's always had my back. And that person's name is- Naofumi Iwatani who's not only my best friend, but also... the man I love!" She blushes so hard her face is nearly the same color as her dress. "Please! Naofumi, come onto the stage, so that we can take this award together!"
I get up and the spotlight is now on me as I walk up to the front of the stage and go to hold Raphtalia's hand.
"Thank you, everyone-" I start to say but for some reason, the crowd's mood shifts and they all start yelling. "Boo!"
And then they start throwing things at me.
Some of them are shouting insults at me like 'Pedofumi' or 'LOLI-NEET.'
I have no idea what's going on until I feel Raphtalia tug on my hand, and then I turn my head to see that somehow she's turned into a young girl! She then looks at me with adorable eyes and says, "I love you Mr. Noafumi!"
And then I realized why everyone was booing me.
I scream out. "No, NO!"
I couldn't take another hit to my reputation. She also had raccoon ears and a tail for some reason, but that didn't really register with me as I was too busy panicking.
This was worse than what I had been accused of by that bitch. I didn't need people going around saying that I was some kind of-
I then woke up in a cold sweat having no idea why I dreamed what I had just done. "I am not a lolicon!" I said to myself. "I'm not!" I repeated and then went back to sleep.
The next day was a Monday so I had to go to class.
Honestly, by this point, I had already lost quite a bit of motivation that I'd had at the beginning when I had started college. Perhaps some of you are thinking- 'why law school?' Well, the answer was simply that I didn't really find myself having any useful talents that could translate into my getting a job.
I had my cooking, but I really doubted that I could get paid for that given that I never really saw what the big deal was with my cooking. I didn't like working with sick people, so anything in medicine was out and I didn't have the analytical mind to become a scientist. I suppose I was moderately successful as a salesperson, but my parents had made it quite clear that they didn't believe that was a viable option for a son of theirs. I did want to put my skills of haggling to some use though- and law seemed to translate well with my skillset.
And- this probably had a lot to do with it- the job market for law school graduates was hot when I had first joined, even if you went to a less prestigious school. I really hoped it would remain that way by the time I graduated.
And as such, I had to trudge my way through college, whether motivated or not. I had sunk too much time and money to get this degree- and I couldn't let it go to waste.
I got there on time and was waiting for class to start when someone strange walked in. It was a young girl, maybe only about 12 years old. And at first, I thought it might have been one of the other student's kids, but none of the other students were that old.
She then saw the space next to me and sat down, the reason she probably did this was because the space next to me was the only free space in the room- and the reason for that was that no one liked to sit next to me.
I groaned.
"Um, I'm sorry. I think you're in the wrong place," I told her.
"Oh," she said. "I can assure you that I'm not."
At that moment the professor walked in, saw the young girl, and asked her to step forward. "Hello, everyone! I would like to introduce a new student to all of you!"
"Hello," the girl said. "I am pleased to meet your acquaintance." She was only twelve or looked to be that old but she carried herself with such dignity that I heard some people behind me whisper "Hime-sama". Yeah, my class was definitely a bunch of chuunis given they were calling this girl 'princess' but somehow... I couldn't disagree with them. She was definitely brought up in some ultra-rich household.
The professor continued, "This is Melty. Many of you may be surprised because of her age but- she is one of the brightest children in all of Japan. She's actually already been accepted to Yale Law School at her tender age."
Many of us gasped. Even though none of us were the best of students- as a matter of fact, we were the bottom-feeders of student society given we were studying in this place, knew what that meant.
"However, Yale cannot accept her before she turns a certain age. And so in order that she not waste her time, she has decided to enroll at law school here in Japan for the time being," he said. "I hope you will make her comfortable and please do not treat her any differently because of her age."
"Thank you for taking care of me," she said and bowed her head lightly.
She then sat down right beside me again.
Needless to say, I was kind of weirded out by this, and not just because of the dumb dream I had last night.
I really didn't want the title of 'lolicon' to stick with me and I found myself edging away from her as if she was contagious with some sort of incurable disease. For the most part, she didn't seem to notice and spoke to me formally whenever she needed anything. I was quite surprised, but she seemed to be following the class material quite fine... and I was rather ashamed at the realization that she might even understand it better than I did.
