A/N: It's my birthday so I wrote this a little early since I'm not sure I'll be online much this evening. Fingers crossed I'll at least get to watch Dynamite live! Anyway, hope you all enjoy this chapter.

After two weeks of staying with Max uninterrupted, Adam's almost reluctant to travel back out for Revolution. End of the day, he's needed at least for Wardlow and Roddy's successes. So he makes all the preparations for it, glancing up at Max as he wanders through the living room, PIper winding around his ankles as he goes. "Hey, Max," he calls out.

Max pokes his head out of the kitchen and stares. "Yeah?" he asks.

"Can you get the wheelchair out of the closet for me?" Adam smiles hopefully at Max. "Please?"

Max blinks, frozen in the doorway, before nodding. "Alright," he mumbles, saying something to Piper before turning back around and heading for the closet. He gets the wheelchair out one handed, then pushes it towards the couch. "Need anything else?"

Adam stares at him for a few moments, biting at his lip. "You have a minute to sit next to me?" he asks, patting the cushion next to him.

"I guess," Max says, dropping down next to him and leaning his head against the back of the couch, staring at the ceiling.

Adam stares at him for a minute before leaning forward and resting his head against Max's shoulder. "Are you ok?"

"Yep," he says dismissively. "Never better." He sounds annoyed, somewhat bitter, but he rests a hand on Adam's back and lazily rubs short circles against his spine.

Adam relaxes into him and exhales. "Talk to me?"

"About?"

Adam frowns and nuzzles into him, humming when Max reaches up and brushes the hair out of his eyes, leaving his hand there to rub his scalp lazily. "Are you going to be ok while I'm gone?"

"Sure," Max says, not sounding at all convincing. Adam looks up at him worriedly and he shrugs with his good arm, not meeting Adam's eyes. "I..." He grimaces. "I've enjoyed the last couple weeks, it just being the two of us and Piper. I guess I was ignoring how quickly it was coming to an end, and now it's here, and I'm not ready."

"I'm going to miss this too," he says. "But I'll be home as soon as Dynamite is over, promise. Besides, it's almost someone's birthday, right?" He shifts and smiles at Max, relieved when he glances down and finally meets Adam's eye.

"Yeah." Max sounds far from enthused about it.

"Gonna make it as special as I can for you, Max," Adam says, leaning in and kissing him. He rests his forehead against Max's and sighs, closing his eyes.

"Ok," he sighs, nudging at Adam. "Unless you're needed at Collision or something."

"I'll do my best to make sure I'm not," Adam murmurs.

The next morning, Max pushes Adam as far as he can through the airport. He has to stop a lot sooner than he'd like to, leaving Adam to roll himself the rest of the way, and stands there awkwardly as Adam spins the chair around to face him.

"Hey," Adam says softly, waiting until Max looks up at him to lock the chair in place and carefully get to his feet.

Max's face twists and he hurries foward, anxious. "Hey, don't do that-"

"I'm ok," Adam says, resting his hands on Max's forearms and squeezing gently. "Just wanted to..." He leans in and kisses Max slowly. Pulling back, he smiles at him. "I'll see you soon," he says softly.

"Ok," Max breathes out, still a little dazed from the kiss. Adam smiles and pats his chest before settling back down in the chair and turning to leave. Max watches him until he's out of sight, then turns and heads back to his car, shoulders slumped and hands in his pockets as he puts his sunglasses on and ignores the other people going to and fro around him.

He drives back to the penthouse, scoops up Piper from where she's sleeping on the couch and heads back to the bedroom, settling in with her on his chest as he swipes through his phone. He searches through his bookmarked pages and finds a well-watched video, eyes lidded as he loads it. He sinks back into his pillows and exhales as he presses play, fingers idly stroking through Piper's fur as the dog collar match that was held two years ago begins, Max's eyes glinting darkly as he watches.
