The new title looks even more egregious in the bright lights of the airport. Max grows more amused by it, more in love with how ridiculous it is, every time he looks at it. By the time he makes it back to the penthouse, he's all but humming, he's just happy with life in general.
He notices when Piper doesn't greet him as usual but brushes it off, making his way through the rooms, looking. "Hey, Adam," he calls out, checking the living room. The kitchen. Balcony. Bathroom. He wonders if Adam's still at rehab, or just gone out elsewhere, when he peers into the bedroom and his expression softens as he finds him curled up in bed, deep asleep. "There you are," he says to Piper, holding his arms out to her.
She looks disinterested, continuing to lick her paw lazily, but when he scoops her up, she slinks into his hold obligingly and he presses an obnoxiously loud kiss to her head before carrying her out of the bedroom. "Let's let him rest," he mumbles, settling her down on the couch before leaning over to look into his luggage, digging around until he finds what he's looking for.
Shaking out the flag with his face on it in place of the stars- of course he's the biggest star of them all, so whatever- he makes it quietly back to the bedroom and spreads the flag out over Adam like a blanket, tucking him in carefully. "There ya go," he murmurs, glad he'd custom made the flag out of soft fabric instead of the usual scratchy material those things come in.
Brushing some of Adam's hair back, Max presses a kiss to his forehead before taking his leave back to the living room, settling down on the couch next to Piper. He's absentmindedly flicking through channels with one hand, running his other hand over the plates of his custom made title belt, memorizing all of the divots and lettering in it, when he hears a bark of laughter down the hall.
"Max!" Adam calls out and Max huffs into his fist as he waits, quirking an eyebrow when Adam finally makes his way into the living room, still wrapped up in the flag. "You are the most ridiculous man." He heads over to the couch, notices Piper just ni time to avoid getting clawed to hell and back, and huffs, sitting in Max's lap instead of daring to offend the cat.
Max beams and curls his arms around him, stabilizing him. "You love it though."
"I do," Adam mumbles, dropping his head on Max's shoulder. "You really brought this thing home though?"
"Of course I did," Max scoffs. "You think I was going to let a piece of art like this go to waste? Besides, it makes a good blanket." He tugs it tighter around Adam's shoulders and smirks as Adam sighs, settling more comfortably into Max's arms.
"Yeah," he mumbles. "I guess it does."
Max lets his title sit and instead begins stroking Adam's back, feeling him slowly sink back to sleep in Max's arms. He smiles into Adam's hair and presses a kiss to the side of his face. All In is bringing with it a weird feeling this year, but he's happy for now, and he'll cling to that, for as long as it lasts.
