I honestly didn't expect the "Starting Village" chapter to take so long, but here we are. I have a bit of plot ideas brewing here and there and the only problem is actually connecting them in a cohesive plot.

And...yeah, I tried to get a bit graphic with the fight last chapter since M rating, might as well use it. Plus I added Shimmer in as the mguffin, since my knowledge of the lore is 0, I'll use a mix of my own intepretation of lore and what I remember from Arcane from years ago. To be honest I don't even have a name for the town they're in yet or where in Runeterra they are around right now.

I refuse to read the wiki.

Also, this is a big yap for a chapter.

Anyway, please enjoy the chapter!

Ezreal and Karna return to Ezreal's temporary camp in the forest, after seeing the children off and making sure they go to the local guards and explain the situation with some children acting as witnesses. Overall it went by quite quickly thanks to Ezreal's ability to memorise international laws due to being prone to surprisingly large amount of suing done against him.

In every nation.

"Right...so, Karna. We have a lot to talk about. That's part of why I told the kids to prepare for a week." Ezreal sighs as he goes to lay on his bed, his camp tent open to speak to Karna who seems to be training with his spear.

"Of course, Explorer Ezreal. I shall do my best to assist you in any way." Karna momentarily stops attacking an invisible enemy and dismisses hjs spear to nothing.

"Ah! There it is again!" Ezreal half cries out, pointing while still laying in his bed "Whenever you call out your spear I get hit with killer headaches and I feel sick. Plus, I can't use my magic either..."

Karna seems to raise a brow as if to thinknforna short moment and then quickly returns to his normal expression "I think it is due to me, Explorer Ezreal."

"What do you mean by that?" Ezreal now sits up on the bed, clearly interested.

"It is because of my upkeep costs on your...you call it magic yes? Your magic reserves are used to keep me alive, so to speak and power me, when I use my spear, it will take up more magic in order to sustain me." Karna always was known as a servant with a high cost due to his sheer level of power as a servant, even if not summoned as his stronger classes such as archer or rider.

Ezreal seems to be frustrated, clutching his head "That makes sense but, ugh...no wonder. Great I must've looked so uncool to those kids when I acted all cool but my magic didn't even activate. I really should've talked with you about...what this whole magic thing is with, you called it the Holy Grail right? And what everything means for me and you."

"Oh, I applaud your initative to know more about this." Karna states.

"Come on man, I just don't want to die cause I made a stupid mistake. You can ask my old tutors, I'm a terrible listener." Ezreal says with a bit of amusement in his voice before he asks "Ok, so for starters. You called yourself a Lancer repeatedly. What's up with that?"

"Well, I am one of the Knight classes, Lancer. The other are Saber and Archer. From there, are the four Calvary classes. Rider, Caster, Assassin and Berserker. All together that makes the seven standard classes."

"Standard. That implies the existsnce of other classes?" Ezreal says while getting out a notebook and beginning to write down stuff in it.

"Hm..." Karna observes Ezreal write for a moment before speaking again "There are various other classes, though they're rare and usually unique to their situation. So for now most just call them the Extra Classes to group them together."

"Right, right. Gimme a second to get all of that down." Ezreal continues writing "And, I summoned you, a Lancer. Other than the obvious fact you use a spear better than when I saw Jarvin spar with some knights, what does that mean?"

"Lancers are known to be all around general fighters, decent at both phsyical and magical combat to a degree. Though we are not specialised in anything, except for our speed. Lancers are the fastest servants in direct combat, however that is for battle. For travel purposes and speed, Riders tend to be better." Karna explains.

"I did notice you were able to disarm those bandits really quickly, what was that...about 30 in the time I beat one?" Ezreal mutters "I guess that's all I need to know for now since I got you."

"Hold on, Explorer. You are not aware you could summon more Servants?" There is a sloght pause after what Karna had stated.

More Servants?

"Um...what do you mean by that exactly?" Ezreal paused writing down in his notes "As much as I hate the title because of what it means here...I guess I should know what a Master is all about."

"Well, your summoning system is unique. Though similar to various summoning systems I have encountered before, taking features from some." Karna explains.

"Right...so, what's the current number we talking about here?" Ezreal seems to pause to take this in "Man...I hate having this much power over people, you said all Servants are dead? Do they look like you or am I going to have an undead army in my hands here?"

"I'll answer your questions one at a time, Explorer. Its to allow you to properly digest it. As for the upper limit, potentially if you have the mana reserves to sustain it, you could summon 54 servants." Karna mentions.

"That's...really specific. Is there a reason for that?" Ezreal says "I can barely power myself and you, I think I'll hold off summoning more servants for now."

"Your summoning system seems to be a watered down version of one I have encountered before. Well, another me that was summoned in a organisation known as Chaldea. However, you are missing key points, items and area to be able to house anymore than 54 at a time, you could summon more but you do not have a base like Chaldea that can power any extra servants and sustain them. From my knowledge, 54 servants could be properly sustained at the same time. Those servents were sent to alternate universe Chaldeas to help support those Chaldeas and vice versa."

Ezreal suddenly stands up "Wait the multiverse theory is real?! I knew that theory wasn't an idiot's dream! Hoo, think of all of the treasures other worlds have. All those adventures!"

Ezreal is actually uncharacteristically happy at this prospect, he is an archeologist at heart afterall. The sheer amount of possibilities and mystery appeal to the inner child in him.

"Yes, it is real. It also explains why you are unaware of my true name and legend. Also, I am actually one of the most costly Servants to summon, it is in response to my power as a servant, even as my second weakest class aside from Saber. Other servants usually are much more kind on your reserves." Karna responds, ever serious and neutral.

"I see, so you're one of the stronger ones then...anything else I can do as a Master?" Ezreal asks, pen on paper once more.

"Well, usually Masters provide mana to fuel the existence of servants. This can be controlled by a Master with practice, or through the much more efficient way being through providing various bodily fluids such as blood." Karna states.

"Uh...No thanks. I guess all undead must have a little creepiness factor to them, even as alive looking as you." Ezreal attempts to make another joke.

"Master's can also identify various traits and features of Servants, either their own or others. Such as identifying their class, skills or true name." Karna says.

Ezreal perks up at the mention of this "That, is something I oh so depserately need. How do I start doing it Karna?"

"From what I understand its intuitive based on the individual. As long as you focus a small amount of magic into your eyes and look at me or yourself with the intent of looking into our statistics, it works. How it appears to each individual however, varies." Karna stands back for a moment, preparing to be viewed himself.

"Alright. No set guidelines to this? No rules? I quite like this form of magic. Let's give it a try." Ezreal squints his eyes slightly for a few moments "...Gah! It looks like a test grade sheet!"

"The way to view a Servant's statistics are done in a way most understandable by the Master. I presume test grades are how you rank things." Karna mentions.

"Right, yeah. Sorry. Just got a bit of trauma from suddenly seeing a test grade sheet. I'm assuming this is temporary as long as I activate the magic so I'll write this down really quickly..." Ezreal starts jotting into his book "Ah...that's, a lot of reading. This will take a while."

"...There's...So much to unpack here!" Ezreal blinks rapidly for a moment and rubs his eyes, pahsing for a second "First of all! Demi-God, I have a Demi-God as a servant! Ok universe, you really want to mess with old Ezreal with this one, huh!"

"Yes, I am born from the immortal Surya and the mortal Kunti. I forget you know nothing of my legend, my apologies Explorer." Karna says while looking forward to see the notes in the journal.

"No, I knew you were a big deal but...damn...you're a Demigod...and you're making a sandwhich. Why are you making sandwhiches?" Ezreal half sighs half laughs, due to the surrealness of the situation.

"Now that I'm aware of your situation regarding your magic. I have taken measures to reduce the symptoms. While servants such as myself do not need to eat or sleep, doing so can help us maintain or lessen the need for our Master's magic. So I shall now take that into consideration in the future."

"Ah...right, thanks Karna." Ezreal is still trying to wrap his head around what he had just read "Also...the parameters section. What's up with that?"

"Its likely because of the lack of mana I'm receiving. It has ranked down for now, but as your reserves become larger over time since you are constantly powering my existance. I should be safe to assume with timttmecan reach my full potential. Unlike mages where I come from, it seems like mages here can enhance their own reserves over time. It's usually a case you are born with a set amount and it stays that way, at least from what I've seen from magi." Karna mentions "Also, before you ask, I have no recollection of the skill named Three Burning Gods or what it entails. What I do know, is that it requires a lot of magic to power."

"Good to know...I need to dwell on that later, for now though." Ezreal goes up to the mirror and looks through it at himself, squinting his eyes as hw focuses magic power into them.

"Let's see where I stack up compared to you."
