Falling In love with Rivers
Author's Note: This story starts from episode 29 of season 1 of Heartbreak high. I will try my best to add things from the show to go along with my writing, but this is meant to just be my take on the relationship between, Sam and Rivers. I recently got into the show, and I wanted more, so I wanted to try writing more myself. This chapter is going to roughly cover some of episode 29-31.Disclaimer: I do not own Heartbreak High, i also do not own any of the characters mentioned in this story. I'm just writing this for fun and in the hope that i can practice my writing again.
Chapter One: What's Going On
Rivers POV:
As she walked in the room dressed in her leathers, he couldn't help but find her irresistible. She seemed to carry herself in such a way that meant he couldn't take his eyes off of her, the only bad thing was she was his new teacher. Well not that crossing boundaries was something he minded, more that he didn't like or trust teachers. He had a bad experience with teachers, always wanting him to do well in school or expecting him to end up in prison like his father, or worse a drunk like his mother. The whole class seemed to be impressed with her and, Peter Rivers was among them.
"Okay, My name is Samantha Robinson, most people call me Sam and I'll be your English and history teacher until the end of the year" Miss Robinson said, addressing the whole class. When she gave the class the opportunity to ask her anything they wanted the class went wild with questions. She then wanted them to introduce themselves and say something about themselves. Rivers couldn't let down his tough guy act and made some comment, it came so quick he barely remembered what he'd said and of course she shut it down but she surprised him she didn't give him detention or send him to see the principal.
Rivers had these intense feelings for Sam, all of a sudden and it wasn't like the others who clearly just liked her in the normal way and yeah he shouldn't have said that comment in class but he also couldn't let the side down. Then they'd think something was up, he was expected to say something stupid and get in trouble but it seemed with Miss Robinson it wasn't so easy to get into trouble.
Later that day he did end up in detention, he spent most of it at the back of the class trying not to look at her. He knew if he did he might not be able to look away. She was beautiful, not just what she looked like or how she dressed. It was more than that, her personality shone through her and it was scary to admit how much he liked her. It wasn't until near the end of his detention when the silence between them in the empty classroom ended that she spoke. She seemed to really care about him from what she said about him getting lost in all the disruptive behaviour and that he reminded her of herself from before. He started to feel guilty, he knew it was wrong as soon as he'd done it. He shouldn't have touched her. Still after all Sam said, Peter still said nothing. Saying sorry and admitting to his mistakes was something that he found hard.
"The world doesn't owe you a living Rivers, you've gotta fight for it and that takes passion and guts, which I happen to think you have" Sam said, the words echoed around in his head for a while before she stood up again, grabbed her stuff and said, "Oh you ever touch me again like that I'll drop you so hard you won't know what hit you" as she walked away.
Rivers sat there for a little while watching the door she'd just left. She was right and he knew it, he'd been in the wrong for trying it on with her and he was in the wrong for a lot of things but she also seemed to understand him, she understood him on a deeper level than any of his teachers had in the past. He picked up his bag and his magazine and walked out of there, he walked to the carpark to his ute and drove to the warehouse, where he lived with, Steve and Jodie.
(After Episode 31)
Sam's POV:
The first few weeks at Hartley High had been interesting, she'd met all of her students and was impressed with her year 11 class, who she was teaching for history and English as well as being their form teacher but it was one particular student that had caught her eye the most. Peter Rivers was disruptive and seemed to think she wanted him or something. Sam just wanted Rivers to stay in school because she could see he had it in him to become a good student, man, person if only he'd just act like a human being and do the work.
It had taken a lot for him but eventually he'd given in and done the assignments she'd set for him and Sam was worried that he would throw it all away when she told him he'd have to apologise to Deloraine but something had happened and the next day, he'd actually done it and he even apologised to her. Sam had this overwhelming feeling inside her and she wasn't quite sure what it was.
Over the course of the next few weeks, it happened. Sam didn't realise at first of course, there was something between them for sure. At the start of everything Sam hadn't felt anything towards Rivers, other than just seeing a younger version of herself in him and wanting to help him to stay in school. But now, she struggled to even admit to herself she had strong feelings towards him. He challenged her in a way nobody had ever before and his writing made her feel good things, but maybe he was just a good writer?
Rivers sat at the back of the class as usual, but there were times where he'd catch her eye and she'd have to stop herself from smiling at him. She didn't want to give him the wrong idea, even if she did have strong feelings for him that wouldn't matter because they couldn't be together. It wouldn't be right, even if the age gap between them wasn't that big of an age gap. He was 17 but very much close to turning 18 from what she had read from his records, whereas she was newly 20, none of this made a difference of course because he was her student and she was his teacher. So when Peter had offered to help her fix her bike she had turned him down. Sam was already finding ignoring her feelings for him hard, if she had to be that close to him who knew what would happen then? but Peter was so kind to her, he'd given her a book on fixing moterbikes when she'd said she didn't want help, he'd just about tried everything to get her to let him help her. It had taken him stealing her bike and her getting scared and then angry when she'd found out what he had done.
