Gabriel Truman didn't have a better idea, so he accepted Albert's offer. Being expelled from Hogwarts was an outcome he could not accept under any circumstances.
After writing the letter, Truman looked at the flying owl and asked Albert, "Is this really going to work?"
"The school must have been surprised too. I don't think they would just expel a student. They would at least want to know what happened." Albert reassured him, and the youngster with the freckles on his face calmed down a little. He was, perhaps, influenced by Albert's calmness.
"Can I see that letter?" Albert asked.
"Oh, here. What a terrible misunderstanding." Truman smiled wryly. "I was warned by the Ministry of Magic when I was in First Year about using magic in front of my family."
He handed the letter to Albert and explained, "Hogwarts students are not allowed to use magic outside of school."
"But why wasn't Albert warned for using magic?" Nia was puzzled.
"It's probably because he hasn't started school yet," Truman didn't really know either.
"There must be some loophole." Albert began to read the parchment:
Dear Mr Truman, we have received information that you used the levitation charm in front of a muggle in a muggle neighbourhood at 10:40 a.m.
Albert's emotions were mixed at this point. He knew who the muggle was, took a deep breath, and read on.
This act is a serious violation of the «Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery», and as a result you have been expelled from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
A representative of the Ministry of Magic will be visiting your home shortly to confiscate your wand.
As you have already been formally warned after violating Article 13 of the «International Confederation of Wizards' Statute of Secrecy» previously, we regret to inform you that you must appear at the Ministry of Magic for a hearing on 17 August at 10 a.m.
We hope you will take good care of yourself.
Yours truly, Mafalda Hopkirk Ministry of Magic's Improper Use of Magic Office.
"I suggest that you apply to the Ministry of Magic for compensation for emotional distress once this matter has been resolved." Albert's parents were both lawyers, so he has learned a thing or two about exploiting loopholes in the law.
Truman was a little dazed, and he didn't even understand what was going on. The other party actually said that he should apply for compensation from the Ministry of Magic?
"I'm sure the Ministry of Magic has ways of monitoring this area, but they don't know who used the magic," Albert continued, "I only came here with my younger sister a few days ago for the summer holidays. Because you happened to bump into us, the Ministry of Magic thought you had used the levitation charm and were about to expel you. In fact, this is a serious mistake on their part, and this letter has scared you a lot, right? You almost lost control just now, and this definitely warrants compensation for emotional distress."
"That's right, a fee for emotional distress is completely reasonable." Nia agreed.
"My parents are lawyers, so I know more about these things than you do." Albert continued to instigate, "Someone from the Ministry will come by later and they will at least write a report, so you should get your story straight. Then, file a complaint against the Ministry of Magic for their mistake and demand compensation for the shock you suffered. Demand 100 galleons from them."
"Isn't that a bit much?" Truman was shocked by Albert's outrageous demand.
"That's how it should be done." Albert replied without hesitation, "At least 50 galleons is not too much. If it's less than that, don't accept it. Otherwise, they'll think you're a kid who's trying to con them. Adults are like that. They think kids are easy to fool.
"If the Ministry of Magic doesn't pay, I can write you a letter and let the Daily Prophet blow the whistle on it. I'm sure they'll be willing to pay you 50 galleons. However, you will have to split the money with me, as compensation for writing the letter." Albert's words made Truman feel that the boy was really too... brilliant.
Hogwarts, Headmaster's Office. Dumbledore had just received a notice from the Ministry of Magic that Gabriel Truman has been expelled for using the levitation charm in front of a Muggle.
This is certainly not good. Truman has a record. During the summer vacation after his First Year, he was warned by the Ministry of Magic for using magic in front of his family.
Just as Dumbledore was about to go to the Ministry of Magic to verify the details of the situation, he was surprised by another letter from an owl.
The letter stated that Truman had nothing to do with the incident, and that he had only encountered a new student, who was about to enter the school, practising the levitation charm in the park. And that the muggle was referring to the younger sister of the other person.
This didn't seem like a lie, because there was another letter in the envelope, from Albert Anderson.
Albert wrote that he regretted having caused Truman trouble and said he would testify for him if necessary.
Dumbledore found the name in his memory. It was indeed a First Year student from a muggle family.
Dumbledore was relieved. He thought this was probably what had happened. Expelling a student was the last thing he, as Headmaster, would want to see.
Dumbledore immediately went to the Ministry of Magic to talk to the people in the Improper Use of Magic Office about the letter and the incident. The case was not serious enough to warrant a trial, and if it was just an accident, the Ministry of Magic would probably become a laughing stock.
After all, both Dumbledore and the Ministry of Magic knew that there were flaws in the Trace system.
The facts were more or less as Albert had guessed. The Ministry of Magic sent someone, but he also met Dumbledore, who was smiling as he watched the two children talking in the park.
"It seems that this is a simple misunderstanding." Dumbledore said to the Ministry of Magic's representative with a smile.
"I presume you are Headmaster Dumbledore." Albert looked at Dumbledore and shook his hand, saying, "You look just like the picture of the Chocolate Frog."
"Mr Albert?" Dumbledore looked at Albert and smiled. "We received your letter. Son, can you give me your wand?"
"Oh, of course." Albert knew what Dumbledore wanted to do, so he gave him the wand.
The Headmaster used it and saw the magic used the last few days.
He looked at Albert in surprise, surprised that the boy had mastered five spells in just a few days.
"Truman just corrected my hand movements for the levitation charm. I've just learned it," Albert explained.
"Where is your wand?" The wizard from the Ministry of Magic looked at Truman.
"I don't have it with me. It's at home. If you want to check it, you can come with me to get it." Truman was confident, and he wasn't afraid of an inspection anyway.
"It seems to be a misunderstanding, Nuttley." Dumbledore said with a smile.
"Yes, I think so as well." Nuttley nodded. "I think I'll have to write a new report."
