As the pro heroes were trying to manage society without All Might, the villains were slowly starting to regroup. Shigaraki ordered his minions to start recruiting new members. Although Dabi had a short fuse and burned those he deemed unworthy of joining. Twice was just walking around, after having an anxiety attack due to his mental issues regarding his identity, and he saw a new villain blow up petty criminals, only because he thought they should have done better than take a register counter. Twice thought this guy would be perfect to bring into the League of Villains.
Meanwhile, as Izuku and Bakugo were staying in the dorms for their punishment, the rest of Class 1-A walked to the school for the opening ceremony.
Tenya took charge, "Listen up, everyone! Stay in line and move promptly into position. I want to see order!"
Sero pointed out, "Uh, you're the only one who's not in line."
Tenya gasped, "The dilemma of a co class rep!"
Danny said, "Dude, chill. Just get in line, already."
Then they heard Monoma say, "I heard a little rumor about Class 1-A. Two people! You had two people fail the licensing exam, you losers!"
"Monoma from Class B," Sero pointed out.
Kaminari said, "He's just as unhinged as usual."
Kirishima added, "Bet you were the only one in your class to fail. Just like in the final, huh?"
Monoma laughed, "Actually, every one of us passed! We've pulled ahead of you big shots."
Shoto said, "I'm sorry. It's my fault."
Danny replied, "Dude, don't listen to them. They always make things a competition for themselves. It's no big deal. We all can learn from our losses. That's what makes us human."
A girl from Class 1-B, Pony, said, "According to teacher Vlad, we'll have classes together this semester, doesn't that sound like it'll be fun? I'm looking forward to it."
Kirishima then said, "I can't wait to test out our skills!"
Kaminari added, "Oh hey, isn't she the exchange student? Just like you, Fenton."
Momona then whispered something to Pony, who then said, "Touch me and I'll pummel you till yo mama doesn't know ya." That made Kirishima and Kaminari go pale.
Monoma laughed out loud, and Kendo appeared behind him, "Stop filling her mind with crazy!" She then whacked his neck, rendering Monoma unconscious.
Danny sighed, "He definitely needs a reality check."
Everyone then heard Shinso say, "Hey. We're trying to get through back here."
Tenya replied, "Our apologies. Come on, everyone. Save your chit chat for later. We're clogging up the hallways."
Everyone parted so Shinso and his class could get through. "I honestly can't believe how uncool you are."
"Shinso," Tokoyami muttered.
Jiro remembered, "Oh right, the guy who fought Midoriya at the sports festival."
Sero asked, "You sure that's the same guy? Looks like he's bulked up a bit since then."
Danny silently glared at Shinso, as brainwashing still hit him poorly, due to past experiences.
Everyone eventually made their way to the opening ceremony, where Nezu stood on the stage. "Hi there! It's the adorable small mammal you all know and love, the principal. You may notice the fur I'm so proud of has deteriorated in quality. I haven't been taking care of it. This is something that happens to humans, too. Even if you eat a balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals, you won't have a mane of luscious locks unless you're getting lots of sleep. That's the secret! Disturbances in your normal resting patterns are terrible for your hair. So, if you want to improve your fur's…"
Several of the students were not sure where this speech was going, and most wanted it to be done.
Nezu continued, "My own sleep cycle has been upset by the incidents that took place over summer vacation, which I'm sure everyone here knows about already. We lost a pillar of hope. The ramifications of which have appeared faster than I could have ever imagined. And there will likely be even more chaos throughout our world in the near future. In particular, this will be most apparent to those of you studying in the hero course. You must approach extracurricular activities, like the hero work studies available to second and third years with a greater sense of caution…."
Mina whispered, "Hero work studies?"
Tsuyu whispered back, "Maybe they're the next level after the internships we already did?"
Nezu continued, "The air always feels heavy when we talk about gloomy subjects. But, rest assured, your teachers are working hard to remove this weight from your shoulders. I'd like all of you to learn from their diligence, and remember that hard work will help you develop into capable heroes. Whether hero course, support, business, or general studies. I don't want any of you to forget that you're the ones who will inherit our society."
Vlad King stepped up to the microphone, "Well spoken. Thank you, Principal Nezu. Now, we'll hear from the extra-curricular guidance teacher. Please give Mr. Hound Dog your attention."
Hound Dog came up to the microphone, "Yesterday, two students…." He then started talking incoherently and howling, confusing everyone present.
Vlad King took the microphone back, "All right. As you just heard, there were students fighting last night. I know you're not used to life in the dorms, but let's all be a little more respectful moving forward. That's it. Back to your classrooms, starting with the third years."
The third years walked towards the school building. One third year, Hado, tried to get another student, Mirio's, attention. "Hey, hey, listen to what I heard! It was a couple of first years who were fighting. Two boys from Class 1-A. Isn't that a scoop? Hey, do you know them? They must get excited easily. And I also heard that the first year ghost kid didn't get into any trouble with the government for helping All Might out in his final fight. He must really be something since he did get first place in the sports festival."
Mirio replied, "Really?"
Eventually, Class 1-A returned to their homeroom. Aizawa addressed them, "OK. Starting today, we'll resume our regular classes and training schedule. I know a lot has happened recently, however, you need to switch gears and focus on your school duties. We're lecturing today, but this semester you'll have even harsher training than before."
Mina whispered to Tsuyu, "He can't mean that, right?"
But Aizawa heard her, "Like to share, Aishido?"
Mina gasped, "His icy stare is back!"
Tsuyu raised her hand, "Excuse me, sir. May I ask a question?" What were those things the principal was talking about during the opening ceremonies? I've never heard the term hero work studies before."
Sero agreed, "I know, right? That had me pretty confused, too."
Tokoyami said, "I also have concerns."
Momo raised her hand, "He said they're something the upperclassmen participate in, correct?"
Aizawa sighed, "I was planning to talk more about those at a later date, but I guess telling you nos is more logical. To put it simply, it's work outside of class. Like the internships you did at pro hero agencies before. Only closer to the real thing."
Ochaco then raised her hand, "Wait, then why did we work so hard at the sports fest?!"
Tenya added, "She has a point. If we have work studies, those who weren't scouted at the sports festival still have career paths."
Sato said to Ochaco, "You gotta calm down. You're acting kinda nutso."
"This doesn't make sense!" Ochaco cried.
Danny sighed, "We should have just done that instead of the internships. But I guess hero agencies want to be conscious about students."
Aizawa explained, "You'll be using your connections from the festival to secure a work study. It's basic networking. This isn't part of your normal classwork. It's discretionary for each student. That means those who weren't scouted at the sports festival will have a hard time lining one up, I'm afraid. Originally, individual agencies recruited on their own. But there was lots of competition as people tried to recruit UA students. So this is how things ended up. Good enough, Ochaco?"
Ochaco bowed her head, "I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions, sir."
Aizawa continued, "Now that you have your provisional licenses, you can assist in real ways, for longer periods of time. Until now, there haven't been many first years who've received their licenses. With the increased activity of villains, we're currently exploring the idea that you can participate in work studies as well. Especially since many agencies are begging us to have one of you come work for them."
He looked over at Danny, who paled, "Great. I hate all this attention."
Aizawa continued, "We'll explain more about the work study positions and what that program entails at a later date, but for now, we've got other things to worry about. That's all." He then looked toward the classroom door. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Mic."
The door opened to reveal Present Mic, "First period is English! In other words, it's jam time! Been an age since I stood on this stage. Ya miss me? We've got a lot to cover today! Let's get rolling with it. Ya dig?"
Later, back at the dorms, Sero wiped his finger along the window, revealing dust, "Excuse me, but what's with this dust, Bakugo?"
Bakugo shouted, "Deku was supposed to do that! Shut up! Hey, can't you even clean something right, you idiot?"
Izuku paled, "Right! Sorry!"
Sato sighed, "Man, I'm so beat."
Izuku said, "Hey, guys. If you put your trash in the halls, I'll take everything down in a second."
Sato said to Kirishima, "So, Present Mic's class today…"
Kirishima interrupted, "You as lost as I was?"
Sato asked, "Were we supposed to know all the grammar he was going over?"
Mina added, "Oh, yeah, that. Right? I was, like, is this even English?"
Kirishima said, "I think I studied the wrong chapters."
Sato added, "I got stuck at the beginning and then I couldn't figure out anything after that."
Jiro then said, "About those work studies. I wasn't scouted, so I wonder if I'll get to participate in one."
Toru suggested, "Maybe we can go to the places where we did our internships. I'd be totally down with doing that."
Oijiro added, "I hope I get to do one."
Tenya mocked in a high voice, "In just one day, I've completely missed everything." He then asked in his regular voice, "That's what you're thinking, right, House Arrest?"
Izuku shouted, "Hey, don't call me that! It's mean! Um, Iida. What's a work study?"
Before Tenya could answer, Danny walked over, "It's something we just learned about today. Aizawa wouldn't give us all the details. Tenya, you were about to suggest we can't tell them anything, right?"
Tenya paled, "Well, I thought…."
Danny then said, "Mr. Aizawa made me responsible for keeping Izuku and Bakugo caught up with everything they're missing. Their tutor, so to speak. We weren't given any instructions about keeping anything from them. Just leave them to me."
Tenya bowed, "My apologies, class rep."
Danny then said to Bakugo, "Bakugo, later tonight, you, me, and Izuku will sit down so I can go over everything from today. Got it?"
Bakugo shouted back, "I heard ya, Fenton! Don't be ordering me around!"
Izuku took all the trash out, lamenting that he missed so much because of his house arrest. He was at least grateful that Danny will help keep them up to speed.
He was walking by a building when he noticed a face sticking out of the wall. The face replied, "Ha! Trash, am I right?"
Izuku yelped as the face, Mirio, continued, "What are you doing? You know you can just throw food trays with the burnables, don't you?"
Izuku muttered, "Oh. Yeah."
The face disappeared as Izuku asked, "Am I going insane? What was that?"
Mirio's face then appeared in the ground in front of him, "You must be that excitable first year, aren't you? Ha, ha! I bet that was a freaky surprise for ya. Kinda sorry about that. Gotta admit, I did pop up here 'cause I thought you'd be shocked, though."
Izuku gasped, "What in the world are you?"
Mirio laughed, "Not a bad question there, my friend! I admit, sometimes I even weird myself out! You know, once in a blue moon. But don't worry, you're gonna find out who I am soon enough. I'm just glad it looks like you've got a fighting spirit. You see, the truth is that people are talking about you, so I came to see what the fuss was about. Oh, and I'm also curious about that classmate of yours with the ghost powers. Maybe I'll pay him a visit at some point." He then disappeared.
Izuku was confused, "OK. What just happened? I feel like I've seen him somewhere before."
Izuku later told Danny about his encounter, making Danny intrigued. Danny kept his eyes and ears open as Izuku warned him that the same weird guy would probably want to talk to him.
And that did happen the next day. Danny was walking back to the dorms after school ended. Danny sensed something was off, but his ghost sense didn't go off, meaning it was a human, not a ghost.
Danny then said, "You're the guy who spooked Izuku yesterday, am I right?"
He turned to see Mirio's face sticking out from the wall. Mirio laughed, "Wow, I can't surprise you!"
Danny shrugged, "From what Izuku described, and what I am seeing now, your Quirk must let you phase through things. Am I correct?"
Mirio laughed, "Guilty as charged! You're very clever, I'll give you that. But I can't give away all my secrets. I just wanted to say hello and see you in the flesh, so to speak. See ya!" He then disappeared into the wall.
Two days later, Izuku's house arrest finished up and he was allowed back to class. Izuku stormed through the classroom door, "Guys! I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused!"
Ochaoc replied, "No sweat, Deku. Thanks for your hard work."
Momo pointed out, "All he did was vacuum and take the trash out. And what's with the steam nostrils?"
Izuku marched over to Danny, "Class rep! Danny! I'm sorry I disappointed you! And thank you for keeping me and Kacchan up to speed with our classes!"
Danny sighed, "Dude, you've apologized to me enough. Chill, dude!"
Aizawa then entered the classroom, "Time to take your seats, everyone." Everyone quickly got into their assigned seats. "Morning. Now that Midoriya is back, we'll go into more details about what the work studies entail. Go ahead and come in." The door opened and three students walked in. I'll have people who've experienced them firsthand explain. I suggest you listen to them carefully as they point out how work studies are different from internships. These three are third years at UA. They rank at the very top of our student body. You may know them as the Big 3."
Izuku recognized Mirio, "The Big Three. And it's him."
Danny nodded in agreement, "Yep."
