The feeling around the body when starting in this job is something from other world. In the Power Plant, training school of WCW, one man stood in disbelief, feeling everything that could happen in a certain point. This man in specific, was called Jimmy Summer. He was a great fan of wrestling ever since he was a child. A man in his mid-20s, he looked ready to get ready for his real destiny. Every minute could be described as a way to make sure that everything would go wrong in their point of view. Looking to his coach, while another man stood near Jimmy, his mind could only see what was happening now.
"For these last weeks, most of the people around here have been tested to see the full extension of your abilities. Now, only the two of you, Jimmy Summer and Curtis Hale, got into the final round of our tryouts." In his body, Jimmy seemed to be ready for what it felt like it was his moment. Ready for everything. – "WCW is the land where dreams come true, and you can be sure that the road to become the greatest wrestler of all will be tough, it will be hard, but you need to be sure on what will happen now. For the final test, the two of you will showcase all of your abilities in a fight, one on one, whoever makes the opponent be pinned or submit will earn the last place on the WCW roster."
A dream that seemed on Jimmy Summer's mind, in a way that he couldn't expect now. In every sense, to him, WCW was the land on which legends were made and most times, it was clear on how things would go in the meantime. He would make sure that most issues would go away. However, Hale, was something far more different. His eyes were burning with passion. No matter what, he was decided to make sure, cashing all-in on the final part of the tryouts. Looking to Curtis, it was clear to him how things were to him. Summer looked to Hale, almost confident on what could happen.
"Why are you so arrogant, Summer?"
"I've come a long way since these Tryouts began to make sure that I would get my biggest show. After all, WCW is the land of the opportunity in wrestling, right?" Both of them fought since the beginning to make sure who would get the spot in the company. WCW was the reference in professional wrestling, being on top since the last few days. After several weeks, the two seemed to be something more ready for their fight. - "I won't back down. And I expect you do the same, friend."
"Yes. You can be sure of it."
"Listen to me. World Championship Wrestling can be described as the pinnacle of professional wrestling in these days. Indeed, you can be sure that nothing will stop the best of the best to do what it takes to fight for something else. Glory, championships and everything more you can expect." The last two in the final phase. Indeed, in a certain path they needed to be sure of it. And no matter what could happen, only one would go ahead. - "In this time, many wrestling promotions around the country is something more than the expected. But even with people like Vince McMahon fumbling and gambling his money in WrestleMania, we're still going ahead for a long road. So don't expect things to come easy, more on the contrary. You will need everything in your bodies to come out on the top."
"I'm gonna give you a challenge, a long walk for your money, Hale."
"What are you talking about? We're just beginning this wild trip, pal." Even before the final match, these two were fueling a certain tension around. No matter what, both of them were standing in a point, and everything could go in a way. - "I'm gonna give you the greatest beating of your life."
"And you talk, like if destiny had favored you." Trash talk, indeed. Like if something could go in a double-edged way. - "Let me ask you something: Why?
"Most people follow their dreams. And even before WWF started to rise among a certain path, following Vince's gamble, we know very well how the power balance and reputation is now. Even with WrestleMania, WCW is still on top of the world. And I will go with the big one."
"Same here. I want make my career in one of the greatest promotions involving wrestling that ever existed." Summer and Hale, looked to one another, exchanging glances, making sure that they would have a wild ride ahead. A fire fueling their bodies. With a wild desire to be part of something more.
"Give me everything." Hale talked, challenging the last one standing between his dream to join WCW. - "Show me what you know. Every single strike." The last part of the tryouts. Indeed, it could be a tough journey, but Curtis Hale, in this right situation, felt that victory could go in his way. But Summer, on the other side, saw the only opposition to what he wanted, willing to go until the last second, struggling and resisting against all odds.
The two walked into the ring, on where the coach stood in the middle of them. Curtis Summer and Jimmy Hale. Polar opposites. Even though they weren't pro wrestlers yet, this would be the match to define their futures. One final round. At WCW Power Plant, on which future stars could rise to the top. One tryout match. No matter what, both men could see a certain flame needing to be quelled in their struggle. Weeks of training, weeks of hard work, going into one single moment.
Who would go into WCW? And who would walk away, defeated? Dreams crushed, taken by a ounce, a swift wind and glory, managing to be gone in one single day. And no one would back down. Not now.
To be continued…
Author's Note: Well, that's it. One wrestling story to surprise all. To be honest, this one, I've been trying to get off the paper. Two original wrestlers, a certain rise, etc. and yes, folks: This story will cover the mid-80's and the 90's, in the rivalry between WCW and WWE, formerly known as WWF at that time. Also, before anyone here ask, dear readers, yes, we're also gonna cover the entirety of the Monday Night Wars, with several key events playing a certain factor in the story, so keep your eyes focused, before nothing is what it seems here.
Thank you and see you all next time, folks!
