Prompt: What happened to the painting of the Dawn Treader after The Last Battle?
The painting hung on the wall for three months after she sorted through their things. Aunt Alberta didn't want it after Eustace had convinced her to give it away; so it was hers.
Whenever she looked at the painting, she heard Lucy's voice.
Doesn't it look like the water's moving, Susan? Up and down?
"It rather does," she always murmured.
Don't you believe in Narnia anymore, Susan?
"Not much, Lu." And then she moved on.
At last, she tired of looking at it and being reminded of her little brother and little sister. It sent a knife through her chest every time she heard Lucy's voice in her head.
Getting rid of the painting would be one less way to hear it.
The next morning, she stopped in a thrift shop on the way to work and left it there.
The problem didn't change.
It got hung on the wall right inside the window, in perfect view of the street. No one ever bought it, for the next three years.
And so every day, as she walked to work and her gaze landed on the painting, Lucy asked, Doesn't it look like the water's moving, Susan? Up and down?
"Yes, Lu, it does," Susan always responded, before shivering in the wind and moving on.
