Helena hated morning sickness with a passion. Her husband was a trooper, making breakfast and telling the twins that, "Mama's tummy hurts." Thoughts of what Happy had told her about yesterday flitted through her head as she brushed her teeth. It wasn't that Happy needed to add a new smiley face to his collection that got to her. It was how he was with Tristan.
"Baby, you want any breakfast?" Happy asked through the door.
"Not yet, I'm coming out," Helena said rinsing out her mouth.
Happy gave her a once over when she came out. He still had some residual adrenaline from last night. She just gave him a quick hug.
"Are you going into to T-M today?" She asked. He shook his head.
"Jax gave me the day off. I want to check on Tristan after our appointment."
"I promise not to tell anyone you're a big softie," Helena teased, not quick enough to dodge the ass slap Happy gave her.
Once the kids were dropped off, the mood in the car changed. Helena knew Happy had a million questions and the constant interruptions in being able to ask them had irritated him.
"Just ask babe," she said looking out the window. She heard him grip the steering wheel before speaking.
"What if it's twins again? What will happen at this appointment, how many are there? When do we know if it's boys, girls, both?"
"Easy Hap, I could ask for an ultrasound to find out if I'm far enough along. This appointment is a confirmation of the pregnancy, maybe a prescription for prenatal vitamins and an anti-nausea. The first trimester is once a month, then every two weeks and the last bit is like once a week. If we have twins again, we have twins again," Helena explained.
"I want to know," Happy grumbled pulling into St. Thomas.
Checking in, Helena noticed the stares. Half of them were hostile, the other like they wanted to jump Happy on the spot. She knew he noticed when he pulled her against his chest.
"Only you carina," he said kissing the top of her head.
"I kinda like that they are jealous," Helena shrugged.
The twenty minute wait had Helena rubbing her forehead. Having a new OBGYN was a bit nerve racking. Plus she had heard of the Charming rumor mill, she was worried her and Happy's business would be out before they were finished.
"Mrs. Lowman?" A nurse called. Happy helped Helena up, not letting go of her hand.
Once the vitals were taken and her history taken, the nurse asked when her last period was.
"About eight weeks ago," Helena said.
"Ok, and what are your current symptoms?"
"Morning sickness, all times of the day. Food is a gamble on if I like it that day and I'm tired all day," Helena said.
"That's normal right now and it says you have a set of twins, fraternal or identical?"
"Fraternal," Helena said.
"And this is the father?" The nurse asked making Happy growl.
"Adoptive to the twins, natural to this one or ones I guess," Helena said, feeling her husband relax.
"Ok, do you want a blood or urine test?" The nurse said standing to look over her tray.
"Blood," Helena said.
The nurse quickly drew her blood, but it made Helena want to be sick anyway. Happy noticed before the nurse, grabbing the trash can.
"Tranquilo carina, todo esta bien," he whispered. Helena grabbed his hand, she was tired of being sick.
"I'll get you some 7up and crackers. The doc should be in when the test is done."
After getting the pop and crackers, Helena curled into Happy's lap. She was more stressed out about this pregnancy that she was letting on. Happy pulled her as close as he could.
"Good morning…Happy?" Came a confused voice.
"Damn it," Happy muttered making Helena turn to the door. She didn't understand why the doctor would upset her husband.
"And you must be Helena. I'm Doctor Knowles, a resident here. I assume Happy is the father?"
"Fuckin' hell! Yes, I am the father. And the husband, anything else you got questions about?"Happy snapped, holding Helena tighter.
"No," Tara said sitting on the rolling stool. "You are indeed pregnant, just around 7 weeks give or take."
"Ok, can we get an ultrasound to see if we are having twins?" Helena asked, tapping Happy's hand to loosen up a bit.
"I would wait on that, at least until your next appointment. I'll give you the prenatal and anti-nausea," Tara said scribbling on a pad.
"I want to know today, please. This is my family and I need to know what to plan for," Helena demanded. Tara looked up at them. Something in their faces changed her mind.
"Fine, I'll get the ultrasound machine. Give me a few minutes," she said standing to leave.
When she was gone, Helena stood and got on the table. Happy cocked his head when she rolled her shirt up.
"For the gel, I really hope it isn't a vaginal one. Tell me what's up with her?"
"She's Jax's former old lady, before Wendy. It was a nasty break up, she left for Chicago. Just came back before Abel was born. She helped with the surgery and now it's…complicated with Jax," Happy explained. Before Helena could respond, Tara was back with a tech.
"This will be cold," the tech apologized.
Helena watched her husband's look of wonder as the screen began to show images. He came to her side, taking her hand. Helena noticed the look Tara shot Happy before her attention was on the screen.
"Ok..it looks like…yes, just one fetus in there," Tara said
"Baby…one more…" Helena was in happy tears.
"What's that sound?" Happy asked.
"The heartbeat," the tech said.
Happy kissed Helena. She tactfully didn't mention his wet eyes. This side of him was only for her and their children. Relief swept through her though know it was only one more. It made everything less daunting.
"Would you like a picture?" Tara asked.
"Yes, a couple please," Helena said.
The rest of the appointment was over in five minutes. Tara handed over her prescription, the pictures and reminded her to schedule her next appointment on the way out. With a final nod she was gone.
"I don't know if I like her," Helena said following Happy out.
"I don't," Happy shrugged.
"Then I'll ask for a different doctor. We both have to like them. It meant the world to me that you wanted to be here Happy," Helena emphasized her point by stealing a kiss.
"Only you carina."
The receptionist understood the request for a new doctor. The next appointment was set for a month out. Helena hoped Tara wouldn't complain to Jax, but if she did Happy would go all protective husband on her.

Happy led Helena to where Tristan's room was. Helena remained silent, a look of contemplation on her face. Both Eliot and Karen were outside the room, talking to an admin. Karen nodded to Happy, giving a wave they could go in.
"Morning sweetheart," he said, seeing the small smile on Tristan's face.
"The flowers are beautiful, thank you," Tristan said. Beside him Helena gave his hand a squeeze of approval.
"Da nada, this is my wife Helena. Helena meet Tristan."
When Helena gracefully sat next to Tristan, Happy relaxed. He was glad Tristan looked in better spirits. The two started a whispered conversation, allowing Happy to take in the morning. He was relieved it would be only one more baby. It made finding a house easier and while the jump from two to three wouldn't be without its struggle; he bet Noella and Henry would adjust better. A giggle turned his head back.
"Ladies?" He asked, eyeing his wife.
"I was just saying that Tristan is welcome at our house anytime. And if she takes a babysitting course you might consider letting her watch Noella and Henry for a few hours," Helena said. His wife made a good point.
"I like kids, and need to get out of my house," Tristan said.
"When you feel better, you can meet them," Happy nodded, making both women smile. He knew that having a purpose would help Tristan recover.
"I hope you feel better soon, let me give you my number. If you need to talk, cry, whatever don't hesitate to call ok?" Helena pulled out a pen and old receipt scribbling her cell. Happy felt pride in his chest at how damn good his wife was.
"Thanks Helena," Tristan took the number before pulling Helena into a hug. Happy came over, giving Tristan's shoulder a squeeze.
As they stood to leave, Eliot and Karen came in. Happy immediately noticed that Eliot couldn't meet his eye. He was still pissed off at the older man. Karen however had lost that "stick in the ass" attitude.
"You must be Mrs. Lowman," Karen said extending her hand. Helena gave it a quick shake.
"Yes, Helena. You have a wonderful daughter. I know she's been through hell but I see a beautiful spirit in her. She'll recover and be all the stronger for it."
His wife spoke with such conviction that he believed her. Behind him he heard a sob. Karen looked like she might cry. Eliot just looked at the floor.
"Thank you…" Karen got out before going to Tristan. Happy took that as his cue to leave.
"C'mon carina."
Once in the parking lot Happy took a huge breath. He really wanted to go shoot something to get rid of the rest of his adrenaline and help him focus.
"Are you relieved it's only one baby and Tristan will be ok?"
"Yes. Do you care if I go to the range?" He opened her door for her.
"No, I want to try and call Bastian. I know he's on his 'no contact' sabbatical but at this point, the man needs an update," Helena huffed.
"You don't talk about him much, what's up with him?" Happy asked once he had slid into the driver's seat.
"He's always been different. He likes hunting, shooting, hiking…and it drives my mother up the wall. He was supposed to be this ideal firstborn son. You know, take over the family business etc. Bastian hated that, so he just struck out on his own with his allowance, made some good investments and basically lives on his own. He calls me once a month normally but since we've been together he's been near zero contact."
Happy just nodded to that. He had a feeling his brother-in-law would be fine with everything. From everything he knew now, doing your own thing was part of his style. When he switched from the Audi to his Harley he made sure to give his wife a long kiss. When she pull him back for another, he decided there was a better way to work out his adrenaline.
