Beside you still

Chapter 3 Tell all, almost

LL APARTMENT, SATURDAY

Lois and Clark are snuggling on the couch. He has promised to answer her questions. All? We shall see.

"Your body is super-charged. By earth's sun? That requires an explanation, sir!" The reporter has her antenna up, and laptop turned on. (That's not the only thing that will be turned on today!)

"It's a long story!"

"I have all weekend. Go!"

"May I start with my powers, my abilities? Then we'll go on to the more complex part, which is why I have those powers. Ok?"

"Ok."

Clark's talk with Lois – Part 1: This will be redundant for many of you, except for Lois' comments. Which may be of interest!

SUPER STRENGTH

CK: The 1s thing I noticed was this. When my folks found me, their truck had been flipped over by a meteor strike right in front of them. I came upon them, grabbed ahold of the truck and flipped it back upright.

LL: Well, ok. With proper leverage someone could do that.

CK: I was 3 years old.

LL: Oh . . . Well, how much can you lift now?

CK: I have not found anything that I cannot lift. Also, I can bend metal, like rebar or the bars in a jail or prison cell.

LL: Stunned. So, if arrested, you might just let them put you in jail – then push the bars aside and walk right out.

CK: I could do that, yes. Or if I was put in handcuffs and left in a police cruiser; I could just snap the cuffs off, bust open the door and walk away.

LL: I like you, boyfriend!

CK: Whoa, easy girl. Wait until we are all done; We will discuss the implications to all of this. The ethics and morality.

LL: I knew there was a catch!

SUPER HEARING

CK: You remember that I heard your voice while I was in Africa, when you and Allison walked into that gang hornet's nest?

LL: Yes, but you ignored me. And I now know why, so I'm not being critical. Don't worry, babe. But I still grieve over Allison, damn.

CK: I know that you understand. As I continue to fine tune my hearing, I can filter it like that. I can even distinguish between individual heartbeats.

LL: How do you ever fall asleep?

CK: Fortunately, I can turn this off! Otherwise, I don't know what I would do.

SUPER VISION – TWO PARTS

X-ray vision

CK: I can see through anything except lead.

LL: Ok, buster! She pulls a throw blanket over her lap; then realizes the foolishness of that maneuver.

CK: No! I don't know what color panties you are wearing! I could, but I don't use it for that. Scouts honor.

LL: There you go again!

CK: What?

LL: What red-blooded American male wouldn't do that?

CK: Laughs out loud!

LL: What?

CK: Later, and you will understand why I laughed. I only use this to see thru walls, or to check suspects for weapons. For example.

LL: Makes sense; what's next?

(CK forgets all about Fire/heat vision. He will remember it later; and really regret it!)

SUPER SPEED

CK: My 2nd power that manifested itself was speed. This caused no end of problems for dad, mom and myself.

LL: Your parents, why?

CK: Over the years as a new power manifested itself, I had a learning curve. I had to practice so I could control the ability, that is use it properly.

LL: That makes sense.

CK: With speed, we had a jolly good time. One day when I practiced running, I ended up in Nebraska!

LL: And Smallville is where?

CK: Kansas.

LL: The next state?

CM: Yup!

LL: What did you do?

CK: Well, I always took my cell phone with me. I could call home and ask for directions. I could run home, of course. But I needed to not run in the wrong direction! And end up even farther away from home.

LL: Do your folks still love you?

CK: Yes, of course!

LL: So do I!

CK: Aw, you say the nicest things!

LL: Will I get a reward?

CK: Just keep it up!

LL: I plan on it.

CK: And the out-growth of super speed is FLYING!

FLYING

LL: What? Did I hear right?

CK: Yes, flying!

LL: Whoa! How?

CK: I'm not sure exactly how it works. But it does. I take off from a standstill, and using my mind I control speed and direction.

LL: No way.

CK: Way. Wanna take a short flight? You trust me, don't you?

LL: Yes, but-

CK: Come on. I promise I won't drop you. And if I do, I'll just swoop down and catch you!

LL: Ok, I guess.

They walk up to the roof of Lois' building and sneak behind a large A/C unit. She jumps on his back and holds on for dear life. Clark takes off straight up. When they get above the clouds, he circles around so she gets a good birds-eye view of Metropolis. He lands shortly and returns to her apartment.

LL: Wow! That is my favorite thing! I could do that forever! Wait, that's how you got to Africa, isn't it?

CK: Of course. (He almost let his idea slip. Well, 2 ideas now.)

LL: Ok, now what?

SUPER BREATH

CK: I can blow out large volumes of air. To put out a fire for example. Or do this; he goes to the fridge and grabs a bottle of water. Just water, right? He asks her after he hands her the bottle.

LL: Yup, just H2O.

CK: He blows on the bottle in her hands. It freezes in her hands. She drops it, he catches he bottle before it hits the floor!

LL: Wow! if my A/C goes out, I'll know who to call. Sorry Maytag Repair Man! Is that all?

CK: Nope, there is more.

SUPER DENSE MOLECULAR STRUCTURE

LL: What is that?

CK: My Skin is so dense that it cannot be penetrated by anything I've found. Yet. One exception which we will get to later.

LL: So, bullets?

CK: Bullet proof. Do you have a gun in the apartment?

LL: Yes . . . wait just a minute!

CK: Trust me. Get your gun and let's take a flight.

LL: Lois reluctantly complies. She gets her Sig Sauer, hops on Clark's back and they take off. He sets them down in the woods north of the city.

CK: Clark checks the weapon, it is loaded. He hands it to Lois and walks 15 yards away, stopping in front of a large white oak tree. . He turns around, holds his hands out to his sides and instructs her to shoot.

LL: Lois closes her eyes

CK: NO! Lois, open your eyes and aim!

LL: She opens her eyes, adjusts her stance, aims and fires once. Clark remains standing, she sees the bullet drop to the ground.

CK: He picks up the slug and walks back to Lois. The slug has its nose smashed flat. He puts it in her hand.

LL: Wow, have any bad guys tried to shoot you?

CK: Yes, they soon stop and run!

LL: They try to outrun you?

CK: Yes, they don't get very far.

LL: I bet. Anything else?

CK: 2 things. One is part of my 2 weaknesses; I will cover that in Part 2, tomorrow.

LL: Tomorrow? She pouts.

CK: Yeah, I think we are close to overload. We will talk about 1 thing that I forgot above. That is:

HORMONE IINDUCED HEAT VISION

CK: When I first acquired heat/fire vision, it was activated by hormones. I was a HS sophomore and we had a sub health teacher. Her name was Desiree. She was hot! I set the projection screen at the front of the room on fire! Almost burned down that wing of the school.

LL: Laughing hysterically! And now, she asks?

CK: I can control it, thank God!

LL: Really? Hm. 'What if?'

CK: He looks askance at his girlfriend. A bad feeling grows in the pit of his stomach. She wouldn't, would she?

LL: I think you are right. Let's start fresh in the morning, on Part 2.
