They had been friends since they were five years. Their status upgrade to best friends when they were seven, and they had been in each other lives every day. When they got to high school they had been there through the breakups, the grades, the epitome of football and theater club. they never once stopped being each other friends but everyone knew they were destined to be more. Which is why Quinn Fabray broke up with Sam Evans just a month after they had only been dating a month. She was aware that Mercedes would never do anything to destroy the relationship but she also knew that she could never hold a candle to Mercedes. So no one was remotely surprised when Puck Puckerman broke up with Mercedes just after a week because he also knew that he would never be a Sam Evans to her. They had went through college with a string of failed relationship behind them and even went into adulthood where their significant others knew something was holding them back.

Mercedes had become a successful actress. Being one of the few people that could say they are an EGOT winner. Her Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony are all proudly placed on her shelf in her room. She was more than content with her life. She had friends, a successful career, she was rubbing elbows with the big dogs but the only thing she was really missing was love. It wasn't that she hadn't tried but she could never find what she was looking for and she was never going to lower her standards. She tried her coworkers at times when they really pressed her but then the relationship fizzled out they would tell her that she was destined to be with someone else, and they couldn't try. She couldn't understand what they were talking about and no matter how hard she tried she would always get that answer from whatever guy she dated.

Sam Evans was a successful NFL quarterback. He led the New Orleans Saints to three Superbowl Championships in his three years of being there and he was earning his way to being America's heartthrob. He was facing brand deals, left and right, modeling gigs, commercial opportunities and he was the phone was always ringing off the hook. His life was seemingly perfect, but none of that really mattered unless he had someone there to share it with but alas he did not. He tried the supermodel, actresses, hell even a school teacher but none of them were what he was looking for. There was the only woman who ever seemed to impress him and that was Miss. Mercedes Jones. If he could just find a woman like her maybe then his life would be complete.

Sam and Mercedes had reconnected in New Orleans because Mercedes had a gig there and being the gentleman/ best friend that he is he insisted that Mercedes come stay with him. Mercedes knew she would never win an argument against him so she was promptly moved into his guest bedroom which was directly beside his bedroom.

"Sam I am telling you this unnecessary," Mercedes pointed out as they started working on putting her things away.

"Nonsense, you are my best friend, you are not ever going to spend money on some hotel. So I was thinking at you can come to practice with me, and then after that, the team is having a party here if you are down to be around them,"

"Of course, I have rehearsal though for the show so I won't be able to make it to practice though, I am sorry."

"Awe no worries Merce, you can still come to the party. Oh shit, I'll be late, I'll see you later." Sam said. He walked over to Mercedes and placed a kiss on her cheek before leaving the room to get ready for practice.

After her rehearsal Mercedes had showered and started to get ready. She placed her hair in a high ponytail with two strings of hair popping out to frame her face. She slipped on a black sheer blouse, a red miniskirt. Happy with her looks she walked around to see if Sam had returned back home, but when she asked one of his housekeepers she said that she was setting up for the party while Sam had showered. Mercedes decided to go back to her room and wait for the party to start before she made her entrance.

Sam had just slipped out of the shower and he could already hear his teammates making a bunch of noise. He slipped into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt before he walked over to Mercedes's room. He saw her sitting in the chair in the corner scrolling through her phone.

"Well, damn," Sam said causing Mercedes to laugh at him.

"You look amazing," He replied.

Mercedes stood, "Well thank you, so let's go because we do have a party to attend."

The night started out good. There were drinks, music, and food, and all the guys were keen on Mercedes. Especially Noah Puckerman. Noah was being flirty with Mercedes the whole night which for some odd reason was making Sam hella jealous. The smiles and laughs Mercedes was given to Noah were usually reserved for him. It wasn't until Noah had Mercedes backed up to the wall like he was about to kiss her did Sam make the big revelation he realized that he was in love with her. He couldn't be happy in any other relationship because he wanted Mercedes. He wanted to kiss her, make love to her, make her feel wanted and he was Ready to do it for her.

He walked over to them and made up some lie about Finn needing Puck and he took his opportunity to take Mercedes to his room.

"Sam what about the party?" She asked.

"Mercedes I love you and just hear me out. The reason why we have never worked out in relationships with other people is that we both know that we are in love with each other it just took us so long to realize it. Mercedes I know you better than you know yourself, I know what movies make you feel better, I know that out of the whole relationships in Dreamgirls that Lorrell and Jimmy will always reign superior. I know your favorite color depends on the mood you are in. I know that you prefer singing and touching over gifts from your significant other. I also know that the reason why we can't work out with any other people is that we are both trying to find someone that symbolizes us Mercedes just ple-," Sam was interrupted when Mercedes crossed over the room and kissed Sam. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her impossibly closer to her. When the need to breathe came too much they both pulled apart but they rested their forehead on each other.

"You have no idea how long I have been waiting for you to say that," She whispered making him laugh.

"How about we celebrate?"

"Oh, not while your teammates are here no. However you can have these," Mercedes replied. She stepped back and slipped off her lace back undies and placed them in Sam's hand. Then she gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking out of the room.

"That woman is going to be the death of me," He said with the biggest smile on his face.
