Chapter 61: Clues

With Dorothy...

"I'm glad you're still awake." Noelle approached Dorothy who had been transporting debris into her 'Glamour World.'

"Well, if it isn't the littlest sister of the House of Silva." Dorothy turned. "Did you need something?"

"I want to know the truth behind my mother's death." Noelle requested.

"Did you hear anything from Nozel?" Dorothy guessed.

"When we went to see Solid and Nebra yesterday..." Noelle recalled.

The previous day...

"What did you say, onii-sama?" Noelle gawked in shock at Nozel's revelation. "What do you mean mother didn't die because she gave birth to me?"

"When she was pregnant with you, Mother was already haunted by a death she could not escape from." Nozel explained. "It was not an injury or an illness. It was a death that should not happen in this world."

"But that sounds like the work of the devils we're currently..." Noelle realized.

"Say anymore and your life will be in danger, too." Nozel cut her off. "If you still have the courage to face the truth knowing that, then go speak to Captain Dorothy Unsworth of the Coral Peacocks."

"Tell me." Noelle insisted. "Why did my mother have to die?"

"Sure thing." Dorothy grinned. "I could never say no to a cute girl. I'm leaving the rest to you guys, then." she informed her Squad.

"Did my mother's death involve a devil?" Noelle went straight to the point.

"That isn't a word a human can speak out-loud." Rhiannon interjected. "You'll get cursed. Dorothy, activate 'Glamour World', please."

"At once, hime-sama." Dorothy brought the two younger girls into her dream world.

In 'Glamour World'...

"Welcome to 'Dream Magic: Glamour World'." Dorothy announced to her guests. "This is the world of dreams. A world separated from the outside world. Everything here is under my control. Usually, I trap bad people in here and punish them, or I transport buildings or injured people in here, like today. Just so you know, this is the perfect place to have secret conversations."

"I see." Rhiannon noted. "Nozel spoke with you in here, didn't he? About that thing he kept secret from any of his siblings."

"That's our hime-sama for you." Dorothy's eyes twinkled. "Your mother, Acier Silva, lost her life due to a devil's curse." she turned to Noelle.

"But why didn't onii-sama tell anyone?" Noelle was confused.

"Because those who speak of it share the same fate." Dorothy revealed. "That's the nature of the curse that befell your mother. That's why he didn't tell you or your siblings and why I told him to come to me in this world because he can only talk about this curse that's separated from the outside world. The devils that live in the other world don't appear in our world unless there's been some kind of anomaly. Mages can use forbidden magic, contract them by paying a price of some sort, and use their power in some limited way, but that's it. Or that was supposed to be the case, but now, their shadow is wriggling around in our world. The devil's name is Megicula."

"Just as I thought." Rhiannon breathed in horror. "One of the highest-ranking devils has manifested in this world."
