The three friends were currently sitting together again, still waiting for Yuni's name to be called. Yuni had her head down as she was lost in thought about what had happened several minutes ago.
'What a duel. Yuuchi has a brother, and somehow that guy Nao learned about Lori's family.' She looked to her right where Yuuchi and Lori were, with the boy sitting between the two girls. 'It certainly was an emotional moment for them both, but I'm glad they seem better now.' She thought. Yuuchi still looked tired as he drank from the water bottle that Yuni bought for him, but he had a small smile as he listened to Lori ramble about a duel she had against someone years ago. Lori's eyes still looked a little puffy from her crying, but her mood definitely seemed a lot better now. Yuni smiled at her friends as she took a sip from the fruit juice she had bought for herself, happy that her friends aren't letting what Nao said to them ruin their day.

Yuni was brought out of her thoughts from hearing her name called. Yuuchi and Lori both looked at her as she stood up from her seat and finished her drink. "Well guys, wish me luck." She said while giving her friends a smile.
Lori smiled at her friend and gave her a thumbs up. "Good luck, I know you got this!" She said, while Yuuchi just nodded in agreement with her. Yuni gave them a thumbs up back and grabbed her duel disk from her bag before heading down the stairs.

Yuni walked over to her assigned field, which was basically in front of where the trio were sitting, so Lori and Yuuchi would have a great shot of her duel.
Yuni walked to her side of the field, since her opponent was already here and waiting patiently with his arms crossed and eyes closed.
"Hello again, Bastion." Yuni called out to the boy who opened his eyes upon hearing his name called.
"Aah, Yuni Nero. Hello, it's been a while since we first talked. How have you been?" He asked as eloquently as ever.
"I've been good. Academy life is pretty fun." Yuni said with a small smile as she placed her deck into her duel disk and turned it on.
"Yes, it has." He said with a nod as he readied his duel disk and grabbed his deck. "You know, after meeting you I was hoping I'd duel you, and those Rainbow Maker cards at some point. It's not everyday you get to duel the child of a dueling pro." He said with a smile of his own. "Unfortunately, I haven't made a deck specifically tailored to go against yours yet. So, for today's test I've decided to test out a new deck formula." He said while holding up his deck to her.
Yuni just nodded at him. She hadn't told anyone besides her friends who her mom was, but it's not like someone couldn't figure it out. I mean, they have the same last name and deck after all. She was curious about what kind of deck he would be playing though; she had heard of him playing some kind of water deck but also an earth one at some point.
Once both duelists readied their duel disks, the proctor standing to the side stepped up in between the two. "Alright you two, listen up. You have one match with a time limit of 45 minutes. Now, Bastion Misawa, are you ready?" He asked.
"Certainly sir." He answered.
"Yuni Nero, are you ready?"
"Yes sir." She said with a nod.
The proctor looked at the two before stepping back off the field. "Alright. Ready, set, DUEL!" He said as Yuni and Bastion's duel disks synced up.
"I'll take the first move." Bastion said while drawing and looking at his hand. "I'll summon Fox Fire in defense mode." He said while summoning his monster. A small red fox with the tip of its tail in fire appeared on the field in a quick burst of flames.

"Then I'll set two cards and end my turn." Bastion finished.
Back in the stands Lori looked a little confused. "That's it? Well, that was underwhelming." She said disappointedly before turning to Yuuchi. "Hey, Yuyu, do you know anything about this Bastion guy?" She asked.
"Bastion Misawa, he always gets the top scores on tests, so I think it's safe to say that he's the smartest student on campus." Yuuchi said as he turned to look at his friend. "But he's not just book smart, he's also been known to be a dueling prodigy. A lot of people would say that he's the best duelist in the Ra dorm." He told her before looking back at the match.
Lori made an "Oh" face as she looked at the calm Bastion "So, we shouldn't underestimate him or his dueling skills." She said which Yuuchi nodded to. "But who do YOU think is the better duelist? Bastion or Yuni?" She asked.
Yuuchi was quiet for a moment as he crossed his arms and thought about the question. "I think…. Bastion is slightly better." He said hesitantly. "He has a good handle on the game, and when he's prepared to duel someone, he wins." He explained.
"Hmm, but no one knew who they were going to Duel today. So, she should be fine." Lori said with a smile as she turned to go back to watching the duel.
Yuni looked at Bastion's field and raised an eyebrow at the measly two cards. After lingering on the fox which she thought was cute, she drew a card for her turn and looked at her hand.

"Alright, you wanted the Rainbow Makers, so I'll give them to you. I summon Rainbow Maker Red in attack mode." Yuni called out as the brown-haired boy dropped down onto the field with his hands with glowing red energy.

"Now Red, attack his fox. Crimson Ray!" She said while pointing at the small animal. Rainbow Maker Red brought his hands together before firing a red beam at the fox, before Bastion spoke up.
"I activate the continuous trap Graveyard of Wandering Souls." Bastion's set card flipped up revealing a trap showing a picture of blue wisps floating around tombstones. Red's attack went through though and hit the fox who yelped in pain before being destroyed in an explosion causing smoke to cover the field.
When the smoke dissipated, Bastion had a small little fireball with eyes on his side of the field. "Since my trap was face-up on the field before my Fox Fire was destroyed by battle, I got to use its effect to special summon one Fireball Token to my field.

"That's fine." Yuni said, not worried in the slightest. "Because since Rainbow Maker Red destroyed a monster by battle, I can add one other Rainbow Maker monster from my deck to my hand." Yuni said.
"Not if I activate my second trap, Divine Wrath." Bastion's second set card flipped up revealing the counter trap. "Whenever a monster effect is activated, I can discard one card to negate it and then destroy it." He explained as a big white beam shot out from the card and hit Red, making him explode.
Yuni covered her face from the explosion and frowned. 'What a card.' She thought as she looked at Bastion. "Well, I still have something I can do. First, I'll activate my continuous spell Rainbow Reach, and I'll use its effect to banish a Rainbow Maker monster from my deck and add it to my hand during my next end phase." Yuni said as she played her card and went looking through her deck. Eventually she pulled out her Rainbow Maker Blue, before it floated into the air and morphed into a solid blue rainbow that stretched from one side of the arena to the other. "Next I'll set a card face down and end my turn." Yuni finished.
"Now that it's the end phase, my Fox Fire's effect activates." Bastion said as his graveyard glowed. "Since it was destroyed by battle this turn, it gets to come back to my field." Bastion explained as the small fox jumped next to the fireball token in defense mode.
Yuuchi brought his hand up to his chin as he watched Bastion's move. "Interesting. It seems like he's making a wall of small monsters, but how can he win like that?" He thought to himself out loud. "Hmm, he must be planning for something."
Lori, after taking a picture of the cute fox, turned to Yuuchi. "Yeah, but I'm sure Yuni will come up with something to deal with it." She told him with a smile before looking back to the match.
Bastion drew for his turn and grabbed a different card from his hand. "I summon Rigorous Reaper in attack mode." He spoke. A tall wooden doll holding a bloody scythe clawed its way out of the ground and stood next to the fire fox on the field.
Fire | Plant | Lvl 3 | ATK: 1600 | DEF: 100
"Now since you're wide open, my monster can attack you directly." Bastion said as the wooden reaper shook unnaturally before running up to Yuni, bringing its scythe in the air, and cutting her with it.
Yuni grunted in pain as her life points went down to 2400, and the reaper went back to Bastion's field. "Now that that's done, I'll set one card and end my turn there. Go ahead Ms. Nero." Bastion said with a smile.
"Fine, I draw." Yuni looked to see that she had got a new Rainbow card she had put in her deck. 'This is good, but I need to use this at a good moment.' She thought to herself as she put the card in her hand. "I'll activate my Rainbow Reach spell to banish another Rainbow Maker from my deck. This time I'll banish Rainbow Maker Yellow." She started as she took her card out and let it join the now dual colored rainbow. "Now I'll normal summon Bountiful Artemis in attack mode." The floating winged robot flew down onto the field.

'Alright, since he played his token generating trap keep, I'm sure he wants them to be used for something bigger. So, I should go after that.' Yuni thought as she looked at the fireball on his field. "Now Artemis, attack his Fireball Token." She called out. The robotic angel flew into the air before flapping its metallic wings at the fireball.
"Don't get ahead of yourself. I activate my trap card, Negate Attack to stop your attack and battle phase entirely." Bastion cut in as his trap sent out a strong gust of wind to stop the angel's attack.
Yuni smirked at Bastion, confusing him. "But since you used a counter trap, my Bountiful Artemis can use its effect, which lets me draw a card." She told him as she drew a second Polymerization.
Bastion looked shocked at hearing this. "Gah, I made such a stupid miscalculation." Bastion said, angry at himself.
Yuni looked at the boy with a sincere smile. "No need to put yourself down, we can't know everything." She said as she ended her turn and got her Rainbow Maker Blue to her hand.
Bastion sighed before nodding a little. "I suppose not. We as humans can only know and do so much." He said before drawing a card. "So, I'll do something I can do, which is win this duel!" He proclaimed.
"That's the spirit, but I don't plan on losing either!" Yuni said back with a challenging look.
"Well then, get ready for disappointment. I activate the spell card Graceful Charity, so I'll draw three more cards then discard two." Bastion said as he drew then discarded some cards. "And since I discarded two monsters, I can activate my trap's effect to summon two more Fireball Tokens!"
Yuni watched as Bastion's field was now full with three tokens and his two monsters. 'What's he planning to do with so many tokens?' She wondered as Bastion then grabbed a card from his hand.
"And now I'll sacrifice one Fireball Token to tribute summon-" Bastion held his card in the air as one of the balls of fire floated high into the air before growing in size into a bigger flame orb. "Goka, the Pyre of Malice!"
Fire | Zombie | Lvl 6 | ATK: 2200 | DEF: 1900
A tall metal vase with a symbol of three flame wisps appeared onto the field before the orb of fire in the air flew into it. A second later the flame grew tall, and appeared to have an angry face as several flame wisps circled the vase.
"I'll then use Goka's effect to tribute a fire monster on my field to have it gain 500 more attack points until the end of my turn. So, I'll tribute another Fireball Token for it." Bastion said as Goka opened its mouth wide and screeched as the fireball next to it was lifted into the air before going into Goka's mouth, making the flame bigger. Now Goka, attack her Bountiful Artemis! Tormented Burning!" Bastion called out as the Pyre launched all of its wisps at the metal monster.
"Sorry Bastion, but I have a Negate Attack of my own." Yuni said as she flipped up her trap which blew away Goka's wisps. "And I get to use Artemis' effect again to draw another card." She said as she drew again. Bastion frowned at this but proceeded to end his turn, putting Goka's attack back to 2200.
"Alright, let's do this." Yuni said as she drew another Bountiful Artemis. After looking at her hand she nodded to herself. "Alright, now's a good time. I'll activate my new field spell, Rainbow Kingdom!" Yuni said as she placed her card into her field spell slot.
A bright light shined around the duelists, and then they appeared to be standing on clouds high up in the sky, with a castle and rising sun in the distance.
"Next I'll summon my Rainbow Maker Indigo in attack mode." She continued as she summoned her monster to the field.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1800 | DEF: 1100
When the purple haired girl floated into the field, a rainbow formed off in the distance, which Bastion noticed. "When a Rainbow Maker monster is summoned, my field spell gets a Rainbow Counter placed on it, and each counter gives all Rainbow Maker monsters I control 100 more attack." She explained to the boy. "Then I'll use Indigo's effect to add one fairy type monster from my graveyard to my hand, so I'll grab back my Rainbow Maker Red." She said her graveyard sent out the monster for her to grab. "And now I'll activate Polymerization! To fuse my Rainbow Maker Red and Rainbow Maker Blue together to make-"
The respectively red and blue dressed monsters appeared on the field before jumping into the air and turning into red and blue orbs of light. The two then merged, slowly becoming a bigger violet colored orb. Shortly after, the orb burst open leaving smaller violet bubbles floating around in the air, surrounding a purple-haired man wearing a dark purple kimono with a lighter purple jacket on top of it.
"Rainbow Maker Violet!" Yuni finished as the man landed down on a cloud next to Indigo.

A second rainbow appeared in the sky as the tall boy looked over at Indigo and gave her a small smile and nod to her, making a light blush grow on her face as she nodded back. "Now that my field spell has two counters on it, both of my Rainbow Makers gain 200 more attack points." Yuni said as Indigo and Violet went up to 2000 and 2800 attack points respectively.
"Now Violet, let's show him your effect." Yuni said with a smile. Violet nodded and raised his hands into the air as they glowed with a purple energy. The purple bubbles that were still floating around started to come together to make a bigger bubble, which then floated down to Yuni's hand. She popped the bubble with a simple poke, which revealed a card inside of it. Yuni grabbed the card and revealed it to be Rainbow Standoff to Bastion.
Lori, who had stars in her eyes as her body shook with excitement, gasped at seeing this. "Whoa, what did it do? I've never seen her summon this guy before." She asked out loud. Yuuchi turned to the confused girl to answer her.
"Rainbow Maker Violet. It can only use its effect if the opponent controls a monster, and it lets Yuni add any Rainbow spell or trap from her deck to her hand." He said, causing the girl to look at him, wondering how he knew that. "She summoned it against me in one of the duels we had." He said as if he read her mind.
"What! How come you didn't tell me about this duel?"
"I didn't think it was a big deal." He said plainly.
"Well, it is! I didn't know she had another fusion monster." She said as she pouted at the boy.
Yuuchi just sighed and turned back to the duel. "I'm sure she'll show you later ok." Lori looked back at the duel muttering "She better." under her breath as she kept pouting.
Yuni put her trap in her hand and looked up at Bastion. "Now it's time to battle. Violet, attack his Goka! Ultraviolet Blast!" As she said this, Violet ran up to the haunted pyre with a purple orb of energy charging in his right hand. After getting around the wisps, he slammed the energy orb into the symbol on the face causing cracks to form before the face broke in a fiery explosion.
Bastion covered his face from the explosion but some of the fire hit him, dealing 600 damage to him. "Gh...since a monster was destroyed by battle, my trap makes me another Fireball Token." Bastion said as another token was summoned to his field.
"Now Artemis, attack his token!" The metal angel flew over to a fireball and quickly snuffed it out with a small gust of wind. "And Indigo, attack his reaper!" The monster's hands glowed Indigo before she swung her arm, sending out a wave of energy at the wooden doll, destroying it and sending splinters back at Bastion, dealing 400 damage to him and putting him at 3000 life points.
"My Rigorous Reaper's effect activates! It takes 500 attack and defense points from the monster who destroyed it!" Bastion explained as a red aura was put around Indigo, lowering her attack to 1500.
Yuni didn't mind this as she moved to her main phase 2. "I'll use my Rainbow Reach again to banish another Rainbow Maker Red from my deck." Yuni grabbed the card before letting it float up to join the solid yellow rainbow. "I'll set one card face down, and with that, I'll end my turn." At her end phase, the yellow part of the rainbow floated down giving her the banished Rainbow Maker Yellow.
"Ha!" Bastion exclaimed as he drew a card. 'Yuni is doing exceptionally well. Hopefully I can keep this lead and finish this duel.' He thought as he looked at the two cards in his hand. "I activate the spell Card Destruction! Now we both send all cards in our hand to the graveyard, and then we draw the same number of cards we sent." He explained as he sent the one card from his hand and drew a new one.
Yuni sent three cards from her hand to her grave then drew three new ones, being another Spirits Fusion, Pot of Avarice, and Call of the Haunted.
Bastion smiled at the card he drew. "And since I sent a monster to my graveyard, I get another Fireball Token." He said as he now had two tokens and his fox fire on the field. "Now I'll normal summon Ultimate Baseball Kid in attack mode!"
Fire | Warrior | Lvl 3 | ATK: 500 | DEF: 1000
Yuni looked at the cartoonish looking boy dressed in a baseball uniform and helmet while brandishing a bat. "Hm, he only has 500 attack though." She said with a small tilt of her head.
Bastion folded his arms and smiled. "That's true, but this small kid has a big effect. For every other fire monster on my field, he gains an additional 1000 attack points." He explained. The short boy's eyes had a fire grow within them before a fiery aura surrounding him and his bat, bringing his attack up to 3500.
"And with 3500 attack, he can strike out your Rainbow Maker Violet. Now attack! Super Slugger!" Bastion called out.
Violet charged up another purple sphere in his hand as he ran at the kid who readied his bat. Once Violet got in close and tried to slam the ball into the boy, he swung his bat hard at the sphere, sending it and Violet flying through the air until they exploded in a purple explosion.
"Ah!" Yuni's jacket whipped in the wind from the explosion as she lost 700 life points, leaving her at 1700.
"And with that, I'll end my turn." Bastion said as the baseball kid lowered his bat.
"Alright, my turn." Yuni said as she drew another Rainbow Maker Blue. "I use Indigo's effect to add any fairy monster from the graveyard to my hand and I choose to get my Rainbow Maker Yellow back. Then I'll summon him." She said as she grabbed her monster and placed it onto her duel disk.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 3 | ATK: 1400 | DEF: 1300
"And since he's on the field, I can special summon Rainbow Maker Blue from my hand." She continued as she summoned her second monster.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 3 | ATK: 1300 | DEF: 1500
Two more rainbows materialized in the distance as the field spell now had four counters. "I'm sure you know what these two do but let me show you how they do it." Yuni said while gesturing towards her monsters. "Rainbow Maker Blue, destroy his Graveyard of Wandering Souls."
The girl raised her glowing hands into the air before sending down a flurry of ice spikes down towards Bastion's trap, destroying it in an explosion.
"Now Yellow, destroy his Baseball Kid."
The boy charged up his yellow energy before firing a beam from each hand at the baseball player, who tried to block the attack with his bat but ended up being destroyed. Bastion covered his face from the explosion and started to worry a bit at the state of his board compared to hers.
"And now, I'll go to my battle phase. Indigo and Artemis, attack his tokens!" Yuni shouted as her two monsters shot out a wave of energy and wind blast at the two fireballs, wiping them off of the field. "Blue, attack his Fox Fire!" Her attacks continued and her monster sent out more ice shards at the small fox, extinguishing the flame on its tail and destroying it. Bastion watched helplessly as his monster and tokens were destroyed, leaving him with nothing to defend himself with.
"And now, my Rainbow Maker Yellow will attack you directly, and don't forget that because of my field spell he has an additional 400 attack points!" Yuni pointed out as Yellow's attack was at 1800. Yellow charged up his power, making his raincoat blow in the wind, and then he shot out a big beam of energy at Bastion, hitting him directly in his chest and making him take a step back.
"Gaah!" He groaned as his life points fell down to 1200. 'So, this is what it's like to duel a child of a pro duelist. She's good, as expected.' He thought as he rubbed his chest where the beam hit him.
Yuni ended her battle phase with a smile. 'Alright, he'll get his fox back at the end phase, but there shouldn't be any way for him to make a comeback. Just one more turn, and I'll get the win.' She thought to herself while glancing at her friends. "I'll set one card face down and end my turn. Go ahead." She said, setting Call of the Haunted and adding her banished Rainbow Maker Red to her hand.
Bastion looked down at his deck as his Fox Fire reformed back on the field. 'If my calculations are correct, I only have a 5% chance of winning the duel. So, I'm going to need a great card to help me get out of this predicament.' He thought.
"Alright then, I draw!" He looked down at the card he drew and smiled. "I activate the spell card Pot of Greed to draw an additional two cards from my deck." He said as he got two more cards. 'Hmm, this still won't cut it. But maybe...' He figured as he grabbed one of the cards he drew. "I normal summon Royal Firestorm Guards!"
A tall pillar of fire erupted from the ground before turning into a tall red dragon snakelike creature with wings on its arms.
Fire | Pyro | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1700 | DEF: 1200
"When Firestorm is normal summoned, I can shuffle back four pyro type monsters from my graveyard back into my deck, then draw two cards." He explained as he grabbed the cards from his graveyard. "I'll return two Raging Flame Spirits, one Spirit of Flames, and another Firestorm Guards to my deck." Bastion put all four cards back into his deck before shuffling it.
'Alright deck, give me something good.' He thought as he put his deck back into its slot and drew two cards. 'Well, I guess I'll have to settle for this' He sighed as he looked back up at Yuni's field. "I'll set one card face down and end my turn." He said as a card appeared behind his fox.
'Yes! I got this!' Yuni thought excitedly as she drew. 'I just need to use Blue's effect to destroy his facedown card and go in for game!' She smiled to herself. "I activate Blue's effect again, to destroy your set card!" She announced as Blue started to make ice shards in the air.
Bastion smiled. "I wish we could've had a longer match. It would truly be something to behold." He told her.
"Me too, but this was fun. I'm sure the next time we duel you'll have a deck made specifically to go against mine, and who knows, you might win." She said with a smile. "But today, it's my victory." She said as Blue shot the ice shards at Bastion's card.
"Actually, unfortunately for you I'm not letting you win here." He said with a smirk.
"What? How?"
"Allow me to show you! I activate my trap card, Ring of Destruction!" Bastion yelled as he flipped up his trap. "This trap lets me target a monster you control and destroy it. Then we both take damage equal to its attack points. And since I know that Indigo makes it so that I can't destroy OTHER Rainbow Makers, I'll target her!" He explained as his trap card shot out a metal ring with grenades attached to it which landed around Indigo's neck. "And since your field spell is boosting her attack, we'll both take 1700 damage!"
The metal ring glowed for a second before it detonated in a big yellow and indigo colored explosion. Yuni and Bastion grunted in pain as they both took the 1700 damage which brought them both to 0 life points simultaneously.
"Game, set, and match!" The proctor called out as he stepped up to the field. "The result of this is a draw."
As the proctor was saying this, Bastion was straightening out his jacket as he walked over to Yuni. "Good show miss Yuni, good show." He complimented as he stretched out his hand to her. "You had me on the ropes there."
Yuni smiled at the boy. "Thank you, it was a fun match. Hopefully we can duel again soon." She said as she shook his hand.
"Indeed." He said with a nod.
Yuni let go of his hand and looked over to the stands where Lori was cheering and Yuuchi was clapping for them. She started heading over to the two, so the group of friends can talk, watch the rest of the duels, and enjoy the rest of their day.
…...
"To a job well done!" Lori cheered as she raised her glass. Yuni and Yuuchi both raised their glasses as well and lightly tapped them against hers. The three were now in Yuni's room watching a movie and celebrating their wins and tie they got during their duel tests.
Yuni had invited them to dinner at the Ra dorm, which Lori definitely enjoyed seeing as she had only had rice and fish at the Slifer dorm. Both girls were leaning back on the bed, with Lori having her hand on her full stomach. Yuuchi was sitting on the floor at the front of the bed with his eyes glued to the TV. He was completely enraptured in the action drama on the screen.
"Aah, this is the life..." Lori said contently. Yuni hummed in agreement with her friend and took another sip of her drink. "I'm glad we have the next three days off. I really needed the break." Lori continued. She looked down at the back of Yuuchi's head and thought back to his duel and the anger on his face. She shook her head and lightly giggled at how the boy gasped and leaned in closer to the TV as the movie had a big plot twist scene involving the main characters. 'He really needed this too.' She thought to herself.
'Hmmm.' Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in her head, and a smile crept on her face. "Hey guys?" She called out to the two.
"Yeah, what is it?" Yuni asked as both she and Yuuchi turned to look at Lori.
"Since we have a small break from school, I have a great idea on how to spend it." She said happily. "No school, no dueling, just friends hanging out."
"Oh really?" Yuuchi said.
"What is it?" Yuni asked.
Lori looked at two and smiled wider. "You'll just have to wait till tomorrow."

Author's Notes:
1) The duel tests are now done. Yay, onto more slices of life.
2) We see Bastion once more and we see him duel Yuni. Though I gave him a fire deck that was inspired by the one he used in the manga. Honestly, I wasn't sure who I wanted to see win so I figured a tie would work.
3) I have a decision I need to make which I'm still not 100% sure on. I got a bit of time to think about it though since it would be for chapter 9. We'll see what happens.
4) Next chapter will have our characters trying to relax and enjoy the small break they have.
