A/N How to write a vampire Xander story that's believable? Make him a totally different kind of vampire than the Buffy vampires. I have to, otherwise we get wish verse Xander, cold, controlled and evil or his hatred of vampires is so strong he walks into the sun. Neither are stories I want to write.

So, technically speaking, this Xander isn't actually going to be a vampire, he's going to be a fictional version from a famous book series that inspired the legend of the vampire. I haven't found any examples of this crossover being done, but I'm using Sparkle on the Hellmouth as an inspiration, although he won't be a sparklepire, just that in the Buffy universe what he becomes is fictional. And I won't be setting it at Halloween, I'm starting it at Revelations, which means I'll need to address the fact that Xander and Willow have kissed.

Revelations is one of those episodes of Buffy that frustrates me. Faith's alienation begins here, because of Gwendolyn Post. But I also find it's one of those episodes where Buffy gets so much sympathy and no one else does. Xander's accused by the audience of passively aggressively facilitating the attempted murder of Angel, only once again, there's no evidence of that. Giles is found injured and unconscious and Xander doesn't know Mrs. Post is a bad guy, but he does know Buffy's been playing with fire and only she believes Angel is Angel, the rest wonder if it's Angelus and given that his last victim was Giles, finding him unconscious is damned suspicious. But if Xander really was trying to orchestrate Angel's destruction, he wouldn't have called Faith back when he realized it actually was Angel and not Angelus.

Also, like with Dead Man's Party, both the audience and Buffy are very eager to ignore everyone else's pain and fear.

Buffy cries and tries to deflect attention away from her and on to Xander both times.

In the Becoming episode Willow ended up in a coma, Xander witnessed the third person he personally knew die. Jesse, classmate Theresa killed by Angelus (second person Xander knew that he personally staked) and then he actually saw Kendra be killed and was helpless to help her and suffers a broken arm and a concussion himself.

And Buffy retrieved the sword from the library at night, argued with her mother at night and only went after Angelus after leaving Giles to be tortured for hours (which Giles yells at her about) until the next day, during which at any time, Angelus could have ended the world.

I acknowledge how hard it must have been for her, but all of that makes it hard to be very sympathetic towards her. Description of Buffy's feelings comes from a fan transcript of the episode, this is what that fan thinks Buffy is feeling.

She couldn't believe how insensitive Xander was being, again! Once again he ignored her pain, she had to send the guy she loved to Hell! Didn't he understand what that did to her? How much it hurt, to see Angel so confused when the spell activated at the last second and it was already too late? Angelus had activated the Acathla statue and the portal was opening. She had no choice but to send Angel to Hell, to save the world again.

And there was Xander, who'd dared to spy on her, glaring at her. And how dare Cordelia say she was afraid Angel would hurt her! Angelus had left her completely alone, she'd been beneath his notice, just like Xander. It was she that suffered, not them! He hadn't terrorized them, he'd terrorized her!

And she'd done what she had to, what a Slayer had to do, she'd saved the world and she'd let him go and than he came back to her. And they were all being so mean, she just couldn't take it anymore, they had no idea what either she or Angel had experienced. Xander's irrational hatred of Angel just because he was a vampire was so childish and immature, it was time he grew up!

"Xander, if you had any idea what it's like for Angel, for me, you wouldn't be so judgemental! You have no idea how much we've both suffered and all you can do is act like a child, so petty and jealous. Grow up! I wish you could have a clue what it feels like to be Angel, a vampire, hated and feared, just because of what he is!"

"Oh, I was so hoping you'd say something like that." A voice outside the library said and the doors were pushed open and a girl about their age stood there smirking at them. "I could feel how scorned you feel for miles." The face changed, becoming demonic in appearance and in a gravely voice said, "Wish granted!"

A bright light enveloped Xander's body and he screamed as the others covered their eyes, the light was so intense it hurt and then he collapsed to the floor as the light and the demon both vanished as quickly as they'd appeared.
