Aside from the kind of injuries panic causes, bumps, bruises, scrapes, shallow cuts, the students and guests were fine, as were the Council team. Amy had dropped were she stood from exhaustion and had lost blood from a nose bleed and had hit her head when she fell. She was going to have a headache when she woke up, but she'd be fine too. Xander, Cordelia, Willow and Oz were also fine. Even if Xander was going to need extra blood bags because of exposure to the sun prior to the eclipse and feeling pretty exhausted himself.
Buffy and Faith weren't fine though. Even with Cordelia's accurate use of a crossbow, they'd done the majority of the fighting against the vampires and they were both in a terrible condition as a result. Buffy had lost the battle with consciousness and collapsed during the fighting, just seconds after slamming the shotgun she was using against the face of one of the vampires, leaving Faith fighting the mass on her own as Cordelia picked off vampires from behind. She hadn't fared so well either, besides the dislocated shoulder and numerous cuts from vampire claws, she had broken ribs and if the Council team's battle with the demon snake hadn't ended when it did and they'd successfully charged the vampires, she'd have been fed on. A vampire's fangs were actually descending toward her exposed throat when a well placed shot caused its head to explode into dust.
And then there was silence as the last vampire crumbled into dust.
"What the Hell is going on?" Snyder demanded. "Who the Hell are you people?"
"You can consider them military." Xander answered shortly, remembering that Snyder was apparently one of those on the Mayor's payroll. What could be done about that? "Or private security, take your pick, but they just helped stop a major 'gang on PCP' attack. So be grateful, because you're alive and shut your hole."
"Now you listen, Harris, you can't talk to me that way."
"That confirms it." Xander said, glaring at the little man,
"Confirms what?" Snyder demanded.
"You worked for the Mayor, the guy who just turned into a giant snake in front of you. As far as the world, including you, is concerned, Alexander Harris is a Sunnydale statistic. So how do you know who I am? Given that the last time we saw each other face to face I looked nearly a decade younger."
Snyder spluttered and tried to deny it.
"You knew about all the death he was responsible for, you helped cover it up."
"I didn't know he was going to turn into a demon! I thought we were covering up the supernatural, to keep people from panicking!"
"The Mayor made it so they don't even see it." Xander told him. "And now you do know, he wanted to be one of them and rule as a demon god."
Snyder went white and than gray as he processed that statement.
"You treated Buffy like crap for two years." Xander accused.
"She's a trouble maker!"
"She's been fighting those things since she was fifteen! We've all been fighting them, while you hide the dead and look the other way. Find a way to fix the stupidity you've been a part of and get out of my way, my friends are hurt. They got hurt protecting, among other things, your sorry ass!"
Snyder spluttered again but subsided beneath the angry glares aimed at him. Xander made his way over to the Council team's medic, who was examining the girls.
"How are they?" He asked, as Cordelia slipped up beside him. She was a disheveled, sweaty mess. Personally he still thought she looked incredible. And smelled really good.
"We need to get them both to the hospital." The team's medic stated. "If they weren't Slayers, they'd be dead. They both have broken bones, among other injuries. They'll heal and heal fast, but right now they're not in good shape."
"My car's right here. As in, this car we're right next to. The girls used my guns to fight those vamps off."
"Handy."
"I never leave home without them. My version of a security blanket." The Council team were snorting with laughter and understanding at that comment, as they helped lay the two Slayers and Amy in the back seat of Xander's car and he and Cordelia climbed in and headed to the hospital with their precious cargo, their friends.
"Well, let's call a containment squad and get that carcass out of here and disposed of." The team leader said. "Then we can go celebrate. We survived another one, boys!" Cheers greeted his statement as he called for the clean up squad and Snyder just gawked at them.
"You people fight them too?" He asked, it never having actually occured to him before that fighting back was even a remote possibilty.
"For years now, a lot of people do, it's how we keep them from killing and eating us."
Snyder watched as a large truck pulled up and newly arrived Magic users began maneuvering the carcass onto it. He abruptly sat down as he realized how close he's come to dying. And that he'd been saved by demon hunters and teenagers. Both were concepts it was going to take awhile to process. But at least he was alive to process them, unlike all those who's deaths he'd help cover up.
Suddenly Snyder wasn't so sure he'd made the right life choices.
