A/N Whatever actually caused the phenomenon nicknamed Sunnydale Syndrome may actually have been tied to the Mayor since the Buffy wiki states that the population of Sunnydale declined by several thousand people choosing to move out of Sunnydale in the years after the Mayor snake went blooey and before the First showed up.
In canon the Mayor attempts to remove Angel's soul and set Angelus free, I was just wondering, what are the odds that he'd hire a mystic Giles knew, who owed Giles a favor? Very weird coincidence.
Now to find out just who the mystery benefactor is. ;)

The next morning Xander woke up before Cordelia and decided to make her breakfast in bed, the first time he'd tried something like that, but hey, they had a lot to celebrate. She'd graduated High School, he had his GED, they'd survived the battle against the demon snake and most importantly, Cordelia was his life mate and accepted it. Soon he'd change her into a techno vamp and they'd hopefully still love each other centuries from now, just like the couples in the books did. Well, they were romance novels, that was to be expected. Real life didn't always turn out that way, but they could hope. He cheerfully popped a blood bag on his teeth and decided even the fact that he had to do that didn't effect his good mood.
About twenty minutes later he brought a tray with a plate of eggs and toast and milk into the bedroom and set it on the bedside table and gently woke Cordelia up.
"Hey, sleepyhead, wakey, wakey."
"Mm." Cordelia blinked sleepily up at him and then smelled the eggs. "Breakfast in bed? That's a first and sweet."
"It's a day to celebrate, we survived, we have a shot at a future and we'll be going there together. I just want to show you, I appreciate you, not just love you."
"You can be really, surprisingly sweet sometimes, Xander." Cordelia smiled as she sat up and Xander set the tray on her lap and handed her a fork.
"I'm going to get ready for the day, we need to check on the girls and see if anything changed after we left the school yesterday. And then go talk to your parents."
"Yeah, that's not going to be an easy conversation." Cordelia said pessimistically. "But it's a necessary one." She dug into the eggs as Xander nodded.
"Yeah, but that's for later. Enjoy your breakfast, it won't take me long to get ready."
After getting ready for the day, Xander headed back to the kitchen to clean up and load the dishwasher, hoping the apartment he planned to move to as soon as he had a full time job, instead of part time ones, had a dishwasher. Cordelia appeared not long after bringing the tray with her and he added it to the load before closing it up and starting it.
"That was good, thank you." She gave him a kiss and he pulled her close and deepened it for a moment. She smiled her megawatt smile and returned to the bedroom to get ready for the day.
The two were heading out when Xander spotted the videotape he'd found by his front door yesterday. "I forgot about that thing." He said, picking it up. "Since we're heading to Wes's anyway, we should bring it along."
Cordelia plucked it from his hand. "I'll carry it in my purse." She told him. "Come on, Doofus, let's get going, I want to make sure the girls are alright."
"Yeah, now that we know the head of the hospital worked for the Mayor, I can't help but worry. Snyder seemed to not know much about what the Mayor was up to, but that doesn't mean any of the others are the same way."
"May be something to look into. Somehow." Cordelia offered. "Although, I don't really have any idea how we could do that, it's not like we can just call the F.B.I. and tell them there's corrupt officials in Sunnydale, given some of them are probably corrupt the way the Mayor was corrupt. Any agents might not survive trying to investigate."
They chatted about normal coupley things as they drove to Wesley's condo and enjoyed the beautiful morning and the fact that they were alive to enjoy it. If they hadn't stopped the Mayor this wouldn't be possible.
"So, Wes, any word on how the girls are doing?" Xander asked, enjoying the cup of coffee Wesley had made him. Wesley took a sip of his tea before answering.
"Amy was accessed and released last night, mild concussion from hitting her head when she collapsed and exhaustion. I brought her back to her father's place and he looked after her last night. He understands magical exhaustion, he knows Amy's a witch after all."
"Yeah, he knew Amy's mother was too." Xander nodded. "And Buffy and Faith?"
"Buffy has a cracked skull and numerous vampire claw marks. A normal human would need a considerable amount of time to recover from a cracked skull, but Slayers heal much faster than a normal human, so a few days and she should be better. Faith has broken ribs and her shoulder had to be set, she'll recover too. Willow and Oz were unharmed."
"So were we and you don't look injured either."
"Unscathed, I assure you." Wesley sipped his tea.
"Good, once all the girls are out of the hospital, Cordy and I have something we need to discuss with everyone, in the meantime we have a new mystery."
"Already, it hasn't even been twenty four hours since the successful conclusion of the last one."
Cordelia pulled the videotape out of her purse and handed it to Wesley. "We found this on Xander's front porch last night, wrapped in brown paper, like a grocery bag and no writing on it."
Wesley turned the tape over examining it. "I'm not seeing anything unusual about it, well let's see what's on it." He moved to his VCR and inserted the tape and pressed play.
Mayor Wilkins smiling face appeared on the screen.
"Congratulations, Scooby Gang. Can I call you that? I feel like I know you all so well."
