For as long as she had known her grandfather his hair had always been silver, with a dash of what appeared to be faded orange in his beard. So to see him as a young man with his reddish orange locks, was a sight to behold. "I could have been a ginger," Charlie says in a disappointed tone. "I would have been an attractive ginger."
Holly Holiday chuckled as she looked at the large portrait that was in the hall of one of their buildings. "He was a very attractive young man wasn't he."
Charlie shot Holly a bewildered look, "Gross. Don't lust over my grandfather, my grandmother might come back as a ghost and haunt you," Charlie said flatly. "This is a nice tribute, but he wouldn't want his name on a building or a shrine to him."
"Well, he helped make Summit the premier institution, it's a shame that the family legacy couldn't be continued," Holly commented, "Though I do understand Frannie's reasoning about a conflict of interest, perhaps after you graduate we can buy her out of her contract with K2."
"Frannie didn't say no to you because of a conflict of interest, she said no to you because she thought she'd have to deal with me daily for 4 years. And I would have a been a disrespectful little shit in her classroom and she wouldn't be able to try and murder me. But with K2 she's got projects, Santana Lopez is the person you're going to regret not picking up when you had the chance."
"Perhaps, but Santana only appeared on the radar due to her proximity to you. We couldn't give her special treatment for her benefit, and for yours. Your classmates aren't exactly thrilled about your special status. I'm sure you'll get more than a few open challenges." Holly said with a bit of a frown. "It doesn't help that you chose not to enter the dorms, which for everyone else is required. It looks like we're giving you special treatment."
"You are. But I'm not in the same boat as everyone else. I'm an active hero and have actively saved multiple countries already, I have fought threats that most of them would shit their pants at. I don't need to be taught the basics, if you want me to give a demonstration as to why—"
"I'm not giving you permission to sink the island to make a point," Holly interjects.
"I was going to suggest you give them permission to come at me at the same time, to save time. It would just be quicker if they came at me at the same time, I don't really have the patience to make this a one on one battle."
"We have some of the best—"
"And I kicked the Union of Justice's collective asses. Just play the footage, and let them know if they want to fight me they can form a line after my training is done for the day. I'm sure many of them are trying to make a name for themselves, but it will end poorly. I find my patience these days is at an all time low Holly, so you should probably warn them that it will hurt."
"We do have top of the line—"
"I have a therapist, I'll be fine, but the whole thing is just raw. So my patience for people's bullshit is at an all time low. Honestly this will be better if you just let the one student who everyone is afraid of fight me, so I can smack them down. It was in a movie once. Take out the biggest guy in the yard and everyone else will fall in line."
Holly raised a brow, this was going to be a very interesting year. "Well, I'll see what I can do, but we should talk about your schedule. Are you sure that you can handle a 12 hour day? 6 am to 6 pm with only half an hour for lunch? Six hours of lectures in the morning, your class schedule is moving at an accelerated pace but chemistry, physics, sociology and psychology with an asynchronous biology and English class is—a lot. Sure it's only for a few weeks before you're tested on the material, but add that to the afternoon being training—I don't want you to burn out."
"I'll let you know if things need to change," Charlie promises. She already had most of her first year credits, and she couldn't imagine that physics and chemistry would be difficult for her. "I'm still an active hero, Holly and while in theory I can ignore most summons—"
"Of course, your grandfather and I talked about that. It's not in your makeup to simply ignore people in trouble, the professors aren't going to hassle you over this. In fact many hope to talk to you hero to hero, all eyes are on the American Inter-High and Trask Industries. Something I hear you're not thrilled with."
"Are you?" Charlie questions.
"I'm taking a wait and see approach, I mean there's a 50-50 chance this is an unmitigated disaster, but Carmen has promised that it was safe. And this has been signed off by the Union of Justice, the 4 Horsewomen and the Seven, you're the only one that told them where to stick it."
"50-50, is being generous. This will be a disaster, but it should be a disaster that the Utopian and Lady Liberty can easily handle, Charlotte if it's sunny."
Holly hesitated, "Should I send my people there?"
"I don't know if anything is going to happen, but Frannie will be on the scene as will Quinn, so I can't imagine that this will be as bad as I predict it will, and I probably won't need to show up especially if Santana and Dani decide to say fuck it and try and help. Things will probably turn out fine."
Holly let out a breath, when Lawrence made predictions she had learned to listen to it, and Charlie was still young, but she was going to pull her people just in case. There were cameras everywhere they didn't need to be at the actual event. "Let me show you to the library, I imagine you'll be spending a lot of time there, to study."
Charlie raised a brow, she didn't do public spaces for studying, she preferred to do it alone. "Sure." She couldn't wait for this experiment to be over so she could graduate and move on with her life. Going on a culinary exploration of the world was far more interesting to her.
