Chapter 67
"Your Reign is Over, Madam"
Madam Boss was still fighting for her life as she was wheeled out of Viridian City Hospital and over to Narita Airport for her flight to the United States. Inside the ambulance, all she could do was blink wildly as she looked at me, Tim, Pikachu and Detective Looker. She couldn't speak, but that was the least of her worries where she was going.
"You can stop blinking now, Madam," advised Looker. "Anything you say is going to be used against you in a court of law. The people and Pokemon you and your goon squad murdered are going to be getting justice now."
However, all Tim and I could see was pity for this woman. How could Madam Boss found and run such an organization hellbent on world domination using Pokemon as weapons?
"Tell me something, Madam," Tim asked. "Why? Why did you found Team Rocket in the first place? Whatever happened to you to make you do such a thing?"
Naturally, Madam Boss began to breathe sharply into her ventilator as if she were trying to speak, but she couldn't.
"Is this about what happened over 40 years ago, when America defeated Japan in the war?" I asked. "Tell me something, did you make a pact with Hitler that you would carry on the mission set by the Axis? Didn't you?"
Her eyes blinked twice in a menacing manner.
"I thought you did," Tim sighed. "When are people like you going to realize that terrorism doesn't solve anything? All you did in the years of running Team Rocket was destroy everything for innocent people? What about all the planes you helped hijack in the Middle East? Did you even think about the people who were being held hostage? Dawson's Field? Entebbe? Mogadishu? Even Pan Am 73 in Karachi? I'm sure you didn't think about them, did you? Only fulfilling your selfish goals."
…
By this point, Madam Boss had just about enough of us, but we weren't leaving until she was loaded on a plane bound for the United States. Furthermore, we weren't done with the line of questioning.
"There's something else you should know, Madam," said Looker, taking out a cigarette and smoking it. "We just got word that there are rumors that Libya may have also helped in orchestrating the bomb that brought down Pan Am 103? Were you paid by Libya in addition to Iran to carry out the bombing?"
Looker waited for a blink, but he didn't get it.
"It's just as well you would be silent about it. There were rumors that a second bomb was flown into Frankfurt from Malta as well as Tehran. If you confess now, it will save you a lot of trouble. But it won't, won't it?"
…
The rest of the ride to Narita Airport was filled with a tense silence that you can cut with a knife, but we eventually arrived at Narita about 40 miles outside of Tokyo. US Marshals, FBI Agents and International Police Officers were awaiting the captured former leader of Team Rocket to bring her back to the United States to face charges of terrorism.
"Do you know where you are going?" Looker asked, causing Madam Boss to look up at us. "You're going to the United States, Madam. And they are going to prosecute you until the cows come home."
Taking the cigarette out of his mouth, Looker breathed out smoke on Madam Boss causing her to cough slightly. Opening the doors, the bedridden Madam Boss was wheeled out of the ambulance and towards the Pan Am 747 that would take her to Kennedy Airport in New York.
"You know, Pan Am recently pulled out of Tokyo when they sold their Pacific market to United," remarked Looker as we moved her towards the Pan Am 747. "But in your case, they made an exception. Welcome to the United States, you monster. I'll see you onboard."
As she was loaded into the 747, all Madam Boss could do was glare sharply at us as if to say she would be back one day to get revenge. Of course, that day would never come.
"Now, its up to Reagan and Bush to decide what to do with her," sighed Looker, turning around to face me, Tim and Pikachu. "Well, I guess this is it."
Extending his hand out, we each shook Looker's hand and said our goodbyes. It was an honor to work alongside the International Police and bring down Team Rocket's leadership, but it was just as a relief to finally close the book on the case.
As the plane departed, we watched the Pan Am 747 turn to the Northeast and towards the United States. Meanwhile, over in Lockerbie, Lucy was already preparing to make her way back to Japan and soon, we would all be reunited.
