Welp, we all know this song and dance by now. Let's get started my friends. I do not own Digimon, and time sail away-hi ho shipping!
3rd P.O.V
"Ha...what to do what to do?" When they first met, Kaito was a barrel of anxious chaos. As far as first impressions went, he was a mess. His blonde hair that was in a small pony, keeping the strands out of his face was disheveled.
Sweat fell down his sunburned face, shimmering in the sunlight. And his eyes were narrowed in suspicion, downright angry when their gazes locked. At the time Takuma was trying to find his classmates who ran off.
He didn't expect to be chewed out one minute then thanked the next by the stranger before him while they raced into the tunnel. But then again...Takuma never thought he'd find himself trapped in an unusual world surrounded by monster like creatures.
Takuma was just there for school, yet within a span of hours his world was tipped upside down and sideways. Now he and the rest of his friends were searching for answers, fighting for their lives and just...trying to cope. Now wasn't the time to think about crushes...or thinking of confessing to said crushes.
A sigh escaped him as he gazed up at the sky above. "Takuma, you're up again?" The ravenette turned to find his partner, Agumon, behind him. The teen offered his dinosaur companion a small smile, but said nothing else. It was no surprise to either of them that he was still up despite it still being late into the night.
They had been there for weeks now and though everyone was now reunited, it didn't ease him of his worries. Takuma's head felt so full these days. Yet for these brief few moments at night, laying on the grass he was able to relax.
Not having to mediate between arguments, make the final say for said arguments and discussions, worry about their next meal or even deal with hostile monsters that were after him. For a few moments, he was free to look up at the stars and fall apart if he so pleased.
"Were you waiting for me?" Agumon nodded his head, a sheepish fanged grin on his face. Immediately Takuma pushed himself off the ground. "Sorry buddy. I take it I took too long then?" The only one who knew about his insomnia or late night ventures was Agumon, something he was grateful for.
There wasn't much he could hide from the monster before him even if he wanted to, but knowing there was at least one person here he could be honest about helped when things became too much. Though the fourteen year old wasn't sure he was willing to open up about his latest set of thoughts.
For the moment at least. "No-no there's plenty of time for you to sneak back in. But...well. You don't look so good Takuma. I think you've been pushing yourself too much." Agumon hugged the fourteen year old tightly, er-as tight as a short little creature like him could.
Gently nudging his head into his human's stomach. "Thanks Agumon. I think I needed that." Fatigue aside, his heart felt warm seeing him break from the hug, smiling brightly with his claws in the air. "Takuma tries too hard. He deserves the best hugs."
At that the human boy chuckled. He was so glad that despite the mess he and his friends were in, he had this scaley cuddle bug by his side. "Let's head in then." Together the two sneak back into the school's entrance.
They wince at every creaking step, each groaning floorboard as they circle around the halls. First they(carefully) checked on Haru and the girls in the music room, smiling when they found all of them sleeping peacefully together.
Even Haru and Miyuki were cuddled against Miu. Takuma pursed his lips seeing a slight shiver bypass Miu. As quietly as he could, Takuma took off his sweatshirt while tiptoeing in. Labramon opened one eye at their arrival, but smiled in understanding when she noticed what the raven haired boy was doing.
Closing her eyes, Labramon drifted back to sleep, causing both Agumon and his partner to breathe a sigh in relief. Gently he draped the open jacket over the girl, holding back a chuckle when Miu immediately gripped it tightly, wrapping it around herself.
Satisfied, the two of them left, even more cautious then before when Takuma slid the door quietly shut. "What are you doing?" It took everything in them not to shout, but both man and monster covered their mouth, swallowing their terrified screams.
Turning around to find a snickering Dracmon and Kaito who had his arms crossed. "We could ask you the same thing." Takuma said that, but it was pretty clear what Kaito was doing since the evidence was right in his hands. He was raiding the snack stash again.
A little secret that was carefully kept under wraps from Aoi. The girl was a sweetheart, but an absolute terror when provoked. "The same thing I do every time I'm randomly up at night. Now spill. Why were you in the music room?"
Sighing slightly, Takuma casted a quick glance towards the shut door. He waved his blonde friend over as he opened it slightly. "I'm usually doing rounds at this time of night." Curious, Kaito peered in, his eyes slightly widened in surprise when he found his sister nestled in Takuma's jacket.
The young girl's partner squished in-between her and Saki. "Well that explains why you're without your jacket. You never take that thing off." The goggle wearing teen could only shrug, a bit embarrassed hearing that.
It was usually cold at night and the jacket he wore was comfortable to where he didn't mind sweating in the sun. "Let's get out of here. Labramon let me off the hook when I snuck in but if we linger, it'll mean trouble." Nodding Kaito lets him lead them back to their own sleeping area.
Minoru, Ryo, Shuji, the professor and all of their partners were slumbering peacefully. Soft snores overtook the peaceful silence. A small snort escaped the blonde as he watched them, unimpressed. "Man they're so loud."
That was another reason Takuma couldn't sleep. Even if he was able to quell the thoughts that ran rampant through his mind, the noise would keep him awake anyways. "I'll leave you and Dracmon to your snack Kaito-" Just as Takuma was about to leave, clawed hands gripped his pants.
Surprisingly it was Dracmon who had stopped him, his typical wide grin held a nervous slant. "Hey uh, not to be rude but you shouldn't leave. You've been looking like shit lately." Kaito nearly facepalmed as he ran his hand through his hair. His bangs floated over those long digits with a frown on his face.
"That's not how we said we'd do it." Takuma was shocked, only able to blink in confusion when Dracmon shrugged. "What was I supposed to do? He was getting ready to leave again! You're the one that said we had to keep him here no matter what." Takuma glanced down at his partner.
Wondering if Agumon could help him make sense as to what was going on. "Ugh...what a disaster." However the yellow dinosaur shrugged, looking just as lost. "Um...do I really look that bad?" Immediately both Dracmon and Agumon shook their heads while waving their arms.
Trying to do what damage control they could. "Yeah. You look like you're dead on your feet." But of course Kaito shattered that control into a million pieces, leaving Takuma to wince. "That right..." He could only chuckle nervously, avoiding those fierce, pinning eyes.
"I didn't realize it before since I was more worried about finding Miu...but Takuma, do you ever really sleep? I don't think I've seen you so much as take a nap." They both knew the answer to the question.
But Kaito wanted the truth. He was testing to see whether his friend would try and deny it. "No...not really." And in the end he couldn't lie. "Why not?" This was what Takuma was worried about in the end however.
He didn't want people to fret over him. He wasn't the leader, but he did take on the role of the main protector. People went to him when arguments started. They relied on him to be the logical, understanding supporter. Showing weakness, pain or fear would send the others into a spiral.
It wasn't what he wanted to happen. "Too much to think about I guess. Plus with all the noise?" In general Takuma didn't like being put on the spot, for anything really. Especially when it came to conflict. For Kaito of all people to give him such sad, remorseful eyes made it feel all the worse.
Though he couldn't be sure, it seemed as if his friend was peering right through Takuma. Connecting the dots to how he ticked despite having such few words of explanation. "Tomorrow we'll talk to the others, see if we can set up a schedule to where everyone can take turns doing patrol or scavenging."
Nausea seeped through his stomach hearing that. "No-no it's ok Kaito, i'm doing this because I want to. It's fine." Takuma waved his arms around now, desperate to pretend like he wasn't ready to black out any minute. Like the heavy black rims sagging around his eyes weren't there.
Or the bandages and white scar lines weren't noticeable without the sweatshirt to cover them up. "No. We're talking to them, end of discussion." This wasn't what he wanted. He wasn't supposed to cause trouble. "Takuma..." He can do better. He needs to make sure everyone is as comfortable and as safe as possible.
"Uh oh...Kaito he's-" He had to keep going, even if his vision waned or his body felt heavy. Out of everyone here, Takuma couldn't afford to fall apart. Not with how everyone else was handling things. "Takuma!" Kaito wasn't surprised, but it didn't make him feel any better when Takuma fainted in his arms.
His body went limp, his weight light compared to Kaito's who prevented him from smacking into the floor. "Idiot. And this is exactly why I'm calling a meeting tomorrow." Agumon was on the verge of tears when Takuma was laid down on the floor.
Dracmon placed a hand on his shoulder, offering what comfort he could. "He'll be fine, man. This is exactly what he needs." The dinosaur beast kept his gaze low. "Takuma tries so hard Dracmon. This isn't the first time its happened..." Kaito's expression scrunched hearing that.
This was the first time he had heard the little dinosaur so quiet and subdued. That counted even after after all the close calls they've had. "If he's struggling why doesn't he ask for help? He's always the first one to offer-" Immediately he cut himself off. A knowing look in all three of their gazes.
"With everyone so lost and hurt-he has to keep himself in line. He's so strong, maybe too much so. I'm always there to make sure he doesn't get hurt, but he can't express himself the way he should. I can feel it within me...his health failing." That was the last thing Kaito wanted to hear.
Instead of yelling he took deep breaths, clearing his mind. "We'll let him sleep as long as we can. And we'll bring up the idea of scheduling so the pressures off him. We won't say anything about his insomnia. Just that he deserves a break?" It was the best plan he could come up with.
However no matter how hard he'd try to hide or say otherwise, everyone is going to know that something was wrong, especially if the topic of interest isn't even there. "Thank you Kaito." He offered Agumon a small smile. "It's the least I could do for all the two of you have done."
Relieved Agumon cuddled against his partner, falling asleep in seconds. Leaving only two. "Another missed opportunity huh Kaito?" A blush bloomed across the human teen's cheeks. "Shut up. At least this way I can help him." Dracmon, though wasn't completely back to normal after what he heard, smirked.
More focused on the way Kaito smoothed the strands away from Takuma's peaceful looking expression. "Love is a difficult road to take, especially when it's unknown to both parties." His human companion didn't bother responding to it...
"You know I could just tell him for you." Instead he opened up his latest prize from his snack raid. Taking a bite before pointing at the little gremlin he called a partner. "Do that and I not only kick your ass but also won't share anymore of my food with you."
At that Dracmon shut his mouth, knowing he's on the borderline to his master's patience. Still, he found himself content when he sat down, watching his normally hot tempered, reckless partner showing his more soft side to someone other than his sister.
Now if only the two of them could confess, it'd make the teasing all the more fun.
the end
