Reunion

The speedy beaver Bus drove down the tree-lined road overlooking a waterfall in the distance before passing a gas station with a large Paul Bunion in front of it. As the bus approached its destination, a water tower came into view with two words on it.

"Gravity Falls."

The Bus pulled before a small bus station as its last stop. After the doors opened, a pair of teenagers practically fell onto the ground in a heap of limbs and suitcases. A pig walked down the stops and over the pair before sitting beside them. He then grabbed a pink sleeve and gave it a short tug to help the two untangle themselves.

"Thanks, Waddles. You're a good pig."

With Waddle's help, the two stood up and brushed themselves off.

"HELLO GRAVITY FALLS! The Pine Twins have returned!"

Dipper looked down at his sister as she yelled into the woods. He waited to see if they would respond before talking to her, just in case.

Weirder things have happened.

"Save your excitement for the party, Mable. Stan said that the entire town got together to do a fair to celebrate our return. Since the town is so busy, they send just one person to welcome us back and bring us there."

Mable rolled her eyes. "I was there when you got the call, Dipper; I know all that."

"I just wanted to make sure you remembered it since you were drinking five different energy drinks and six kinds of powdered sugar while watching the video call."

"Fine, you're right. I mainly remember a talking walrus explaining it to us while an axolotl said 'reverof pidnew' or something."

Dipper gave his sister a loving smile. "Sure, and when you filled a gallon jug with equal amounts of all the sodas at McDonald's and drank it all at once, the clown said that you would willingly go two years without hugging people or showing anyone your smile. You have got to cut your sugar intake."

"He's right, Mable, that can't be good for you."

Dipper gestured to the speaker. "See, even Wendy agrees with me-"

Dipper and Mable both froze when they realized what had happened. As one, they bum-rushed the new arrival and wrapped her in a combined hug that could (and had before) break bones.

"WENDY!"

The lumberjill returned the fierce hug with one of her own, rivaling and surpassing the strength of the two twins. After it was over, they separated and looked at each other.

Wendy was a little taller than she was when the twins first came to Gravity Falls, but the only difference was that she wore Dipper's hat.

The twins had changed a lot more over the past six years.

Dipper was now wearing a red plaid shirt under his vest to match the trapper hat, and he was now only a few inches shorter than Wendy's current height. His arms were more defined, showing off the muscles he had built up dealing with the constant weirdness. He also had the beginnings of a goatee growing on his face, giving him a more 'mature' look.

Mable had also grown, but not enough to avoid being shorter than Dipper. Her sweater that day was pink, with a shooting star leaving a trail of pink, yellow, and blue behind it. Her grin showed off her bracer-free smile.

"Looking good, you two, especially loving the hat, Dipper. And Mable, nice sweater. If anyone gives you grief about it, send them my way. I'll introduce them to my ax."

"I am so glad to see you again, Wendy! Are the others at the Shack?"

"Yes, but- and she's gone."

Mable was sprinting through the woods as fast as her leg could carry her, with Waddles running after her with the same urgency. Wendy, Dipper, and their luggage were left behind at the bus stop.

"Sorry about that, Wendy. Would you mind helping me carry all of this?"

"Sure, but two things before we go. First, there's a slight reality warp in this part of the valley."

Dipper panics before Wendy lays a hand on his shoulder.

"Chill Dipper. All it does is make it so that the faster you move, the longer it takes to reach your destination. If we walk at a sedate pace, we should be able to catch up to Mable soon—maybe even surpass her."

Dipper sighed when he heard that. "I thought the reality-warping effects caused by Weirdmagedion would have completely disappeared by now." He then shrugged and looked back at Wendy. "What's the second thing?"

She rolled her eyes and grabbed Dipper's trapper and tucker hats, well-worn from constant use.

"Did you forget our tradition, Dude?"

He just chuckled at her. "Never, I just thought we would do it at the Shack."

After she swapped their hats, she continued, "Why bother putting in all the effort to find privacy to do it where the entire town is gathered when we have a private moment here? It also helps that this is where we swapped them the first time all those years ago."

The two friends just smiled at each other before picking up the suitcase and walking down the street in the direction Mable and Waddles had run off. "So, is that why you were chosen to welcome us?"

She shrugged as the two walked through the woods together. "Less than and more me rigging the name-pulling so I could be the first to greet you."

"Really? I'm surprised Grunkle Stan didn't rig it for himself."

"He and Ford didn't participate; they have too much to do with organizing the fair. Same with Soos, Melody, and McGucket. With those left, it was easy to rig the drawing."

She then mimed zipping her lip, which Dipper mimicked simultaneously.

"Well, I'm glad you did. You are my third favorite person in Gravity Falls behind My Grunkles."

"Thanks, dude. You know how to make a girl feel special. So I know we have been in constant contact over the school year, but has anything happened since our phone call last week?"

Dipper struggled to pull one of his suitcases over a root before answering. "Not much. And we still haven't told our parents what Gravity Falls is like. They did mention that they would be driving up in person to pick us up this year and celebrate our 18th birthday with us, so we are thinking of breaking the news to them at the party. Mable's most recent crush ended with her overeating with Waddles at the ice cream parlor and me getting detention for breaking her nose."

"Nice job, Dipper. Did anyone give you a hard time about it?"

"A little, but it's just the 'you can't break a girl's nose,' which has less weight when said girl is the captain of the kickboxing club.

"I finally found that portal potty in the park. It just pops you out in front of the local sewage plant, though, so it's useless. I put an "out of order" sign on it and called it a day.

"What about you? Anything fun happened since last week?"

"It's just the usual. Thanks to you and your tutoring, I passed all my classes. A killbilly tried to steal my favorite ax, but I got it back before the day ended."

"Ha! That'll teach it to mess with a flipping Cordory!"

Dipper held a fist for Wendy to bump, which she did with a smile.

"Glad to hear about it, Dipper. Robbie and Tambry were discussing maybe getting married, but they're still in the discussion phase and haven't announced anything yet. Nate and Lee have finally stopped denying their feelings for each other and have started dating. Thompson has a tree-nymph girlfriend who is helping him with his peer pressure issue. Best of all, Pacifica is finally ready to confess her feelings for Mable."

Dipper dropped his duffle bag to do a fist pump at that announcement. "Yes! It's about time. I swear those two have been dancing around each other more than those disco zombies."

The two best friends continued to walk through the forest side by side. As they walked, they took comfort in each other's company and talked about their lives.

As for the crush on Wendy that refused to die no matter what he did, Wendy was beginning to see a matching spark within her.
