Epilogue
Months later
Abby and Damon had decided on going to Italy for their honeymoon and they stepped off a shuttle and went to get their luggage.
There wedding had been beautiful and perfect and a lot of the family had been there, though a lot had not been invited as well or declined the invitation to attend. Their family had just gotten too large to invite everyone.
"Well, here we are," Damon said, as he and Abby headed to where the luggage was on the baggage carousel.
"Yes, here we are in beautiful and romantic Italy, and I'm looking forward to exploring the city," Abby said.
"Me too, as I've never been here," Damon agreed, as the two of them walked hand-in-hand after getting through customs and having an employee ruffle through their bag making sure they were bringing in no contraband. Next was a dog to sniff them and their carry-on bags to make sure they were carrying no drugs before they were allowed to go on their way.
They collected their luggage and made their way to the entrance so they could catch a cab.
There were plenty of cabs right outside the front entrance, and Abby looked around at every building as they walked and finally got into a cab so they could be taken to the hotel. The hotel was a five star of course, as Damon would never stay anywhere else less than a four star just like the rest of his family and since he had plenty of money, that was no problem.
The ride to the city was very interesting, as Abby gazed at all the beautiful buildings and it was no time at all before the cab was pulling up outside the hotel.
The two got out and Damon paid the cab driver for the ride with a tip and then he and Abby stood on the sidewalk in front of a magnificent hotel that was at least 20 stories tall.
"Wow! This is magnificent," Abby said when she caught sight of the hotel, where Damon had made a reservation. "Can we really afford to stay here? I know a lot of people splurge for their honeymoons, but a place like this is bound to cost a mint, especially with inflation being what it is. I mean, seriously, we flew first class and that had to be expensive and now you got us into such a magnificent hotel."
"You don't need to worry, as I can more than afford this I promise," Damon said. "Remember how long I've been around."
"Well, yes, but I didn't realize that meant you were a millionaire," Abby said.
"You've never asked me about finances, but I've invested well over hundreds of years and I'm always looking for new investments so I'm not about to go broke anytime soon. There's also the fact, that I work, which was more to stop from being bored, than because of the paycheck, but it does bring in money, so I don't have to spend what's in my savings account. Even if I did have to spend what was in my savings account, I still wouldn't go broke, even with no money coming in, not for a long time anyway. My whole family has money in the bank for a rainy day," Damon explained quietly.
"So you don't necessarily need to work, but did so to stop from being bored," Abby said repeating part of what Damon had just told her.
"Exactly," Damon agreed. "Every single one of my family has a profession they enjoy, and they just move from city to city in order to pursue it every generation. My mother, for example, owns an antique store that has been an operation for generations before she was born and she has kept it going. She's made quite a fortune over many hundreds of years. She only sells real antiques, though it's mostly smaller stuff instead of larger things like furniture, which doesn't mean she doesn't get in and sell furniture on occasion, it's just not her main product.
"She goes in most days and opens her shop and sells antiques, because it keeps her busy not because she needs the money," Damon added. "Even if she didn't have a fortune of her own, dad would never allow her to go without anything she needed or wanted."
"And your aunt owns a bakery," Abby said remembering what Damon and several other people had said about his Aunt Jazz. Not to mention all those treats that Damon had gotten in the mail that had been scrumptious, though that didn't necessarily mean that his aunt baked professionally, but in this case it did.
"Yes, because baking and selling her treats is her talent and her passion," Damon said. "Aunt Jazz has what is known as bakery magic, which means she puts just a little bit of magic into the treats she sells, which makes him so utterly delectable that she always has people wanting more. She always does a booming business whenever she sets up a new bakery in whatever city that she and my uncle as well as my parents have moved to for that generation.
"Let's go in and check in," Damon added.
"This place feels so old world," Abby said that she looked around the magnificent lobby with it's chandeliers on the ceiling and plush couches and chairs over in one corner for people to sit and relax for awhile. Not to mention, there was a nice plush red and gold carpet on the floor, so luxurious that you couldn't even hear your own footballs and must cost a fortune to clean. "The furniture in that corner and the reception desk look antique, not to mention the chandeliers on the ceiling."
"They probably are," Damon said. "This is one of the best hotels in the city and has been around for centuries. That they've managed to stay open all this time, says a lot about the brilliance of whoever owns this place."
The two of them walked up to the check-in desk, where the lady behind them immediately asked them if they had a reservation.
"Yes, we should have the honeymoon suite for Damon and Abby Hotchner," Damon said.
"Oh yes, here you are," said the receptionist said politely locating their reservation in the computer. She then took their fingerprints, as the suites on the top floor required them to enter then signaled for the bellhop with a old fashioned bell that was on top of the desk.
"This is the couple for the honeymoon suite," The receptionist told the bellhop, who was dressed in a silver uniform with gold braid at the shoulders. "You will escort them there."
"Yes, ma'am," the bellhop answered smartly. "This way, sir, ma'am, you're on the top floor and have the honeymoon suite."
The bellhop escorted them politely towards the elevator, and then explained that only the far left elevator went up to the top floor.
"So how long are you here for?" the bellhop whose name was Jonathan asked politely.
"Well, since this is our honeymoon, a month," Abby answered.
"Long honeymoon," the bellhop commented.
"It is, but then we both took all our vacation days so we could have a nice long time away from work," Damon said. "Personally, I can't think of a better way to spend my vacation days. I hardly ever take the whole four weeks throughout the year that we get. I might take a day or two here and there, but until recently I preferred work then going home to my apartment alone. My only companion until recently has been a dog."
"His dog Sisko, is adorable with big floppy ears and large brown eyes," Abby added. "The only pet I have is a gerbil, as dogs need a lot of attention. To be walked and played with. I was simply at work to much to get an animal that needed so much attention. Gerbils are just easier," Abby said.
"We left Sisko with some of the family while we're gone and they'll spoil him rotten," Damon said, as he thought about his lovable floppy eared pooch with totally black fur with just a little white on his face.
The elevator stopped on the correct floor and the doors opened.
"I hope you enjoy your honeymoon and have a good time," said Jonathan, as Damon opened the suite using his fingerprint. "If you need anything, feel free to contact the front desk. We have a five star restaurant on the second level, which is the mezzanine and a café down in the lobby if you'd like to dine in there's a room service menu in the nightstand. I'll depart now."
Damon passed the man several bills and Jonathan took it stuffing it into his own pocket swiftly.
Abby had been exploring the suite while Damon dealt with the bellhop and once the bellhop was gone she finally spoke. "This is really nice Damon. I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere even close to this nice."
"We'll be staying in places like this for many decades to come," Damon said, as he watched Abby's enjoyment of the suite. "So what do you want to do now that we're checked in? We could always go out and explore the city or ask the front desk where the best tourists sites are or we could go to the restaurant downstairs and get us a meal or order room service."
"Or we could make love," Abby suggested with a little smile and a raised eyebrow in his direction. "This is our honeymoon after all."
"That's fine with me," Damon lit up at Abby's suggestion and he immediately walked over to where she was looking at the large picture window and took her in his arms.
"I figured it would be," Abby said, smiling. "For a quiet guy you sure have become a sex maniac."
"You'll find that's the way it is with all the mated couples in my family. Even if they only had sex once in awhile before they meet their mates that changes as soon as they do," Damon said. "Once they do, they have sex a lot, more frequently then they did previously. It's like a drug, something we have to have on a regular basis except without the addiction."
"I would say it's a kind of an addiction, even if it's not the illegal kind," Abby said.
"I suppose you're right," Damon finally agreed after thinking about it from Abby's point of view for a few seconds. "I never thought about it like that before, but that doesn't mean you're not right."
"It doesn't really matter if you are addicted to me or not because I'm certainly addicted to you and the sex," Abby said, smiling, kissing Damon on the lips.
"Same," Damon said, having trouble thinking when Abby kissed him with such passion and promise.
Damon swept Abby up into his arms and carried her over to the bed in the next room, putting her onto her feet before turning down the bed.
"Shall we my lady?" Damon said gallantly bowing causing Abby to giggle, as this wasn't like his mate at all, not usually.
"We shall," Abby agreed, as she and Damon stripped each other of their clothes slowly, taking time to kiss and nip each other on their most sensitive places before falling into the huge bed that was heart shaped where they begin to make love.
Life would never be the same again ever since he met one Abigail Sciuto, Damon thought as he spurted his seed into Abby, hoping she would soon be pregnant with their first child since she was now immortal like he was.
Even if she wasn't pregnant by the time they headed back to Virginia life was still perfect and he now understood what his parents and godparents felt for their other halves, as well as how all his family that was mated felt.
"I love you, Abigail Sciuto you changed my life in the best possible way," Damon told Abby as soon as he finished spurting his seed into his mate. "I went from knowing what I was going to do the next day, the next week, the next month, to meeting you. You turned my life upside down and I mean that in the best possible way. Trust me, my life needed shaking up and I am so glad I met you. I will love and cherish you for the rest of our very long lives and that's a promise."
"I love you too Damon Hotchner and I will love and cherish you for the rest of our centuries on this earth," Abby said basically repeating the last sentence Damon had said.
The two fell silent and started to make love again before drifting off to sleep contentedly curled around each other, as naked as the day they were born.
Life at the moment was very, very good
The two of them would have many centuries to explore their love and watch civilization advance even farther and both of them were more than looking forward to it.
