Chapter 3: Class?

Jay, Evie, Carlos, and Mal walked into their first class twelve minutes late: Evil schemes with Lady Tremaine. But today, the red and black colored classroom was missing one thing: Lady Tremaine.

"Where could she be?" Mal wondered out loud.

"No idea." Jay shrugged, walking over to an unlucky student and grabbing their entire lunch bag.

"Give that back!" The student whined. "That was mine!"

Unfortunately for Jay, the bag was filled with toads, which all hopped away.

"Those were my pets!" The student complained.

Jay frowned, disappointed. He walked over to the empty teacher's desk and opened a drawer. Pencils. He opened another. Makeup? Another drawer exposed a box of paper, and the fourth was empty. How many drawers are in this thing? Jay wondered. He tried one last drawer. To Jay's great excitement, the fifth drawer was filled with candy! He stuffed his pocket and his face, grinning at his steal. Mal stood watching him with folded arms.

"Any for me, Jay?" Mal asked.

"Nope!" Jay replied.

"I can literally take them all if I wanted to. You're not stronger than me."

"Ugh, fine." Jay handed her five ring pops, a pack of Twizzlers, and a few dum dums. Of course, the candy was all expired, but what do you expect on the island of leftovers?

Mal smiled victoriously.

"Can I have some too?" Evie asked shyly.

"Sure." Mal tossed her two ring pops and four twizzlers.

Evie gave Carlos, who remembered when Mal and Jay were evil to him and was too scared to ask, half of her candy. The rest of the class looked on longingly as the four villain friends enjoyed their candy, but no one dared to ask for a piece. Mal noticed their longing but also fearful expressions and smirked. Good. They were scared.

"Where's the teacher?" Evie asked, munching on her candy.

"She didn't come today," Gaston, the son of Gaston replied.

"Free period then," Jay grinned. He jumped onto an empty desk and cartwheeled off, landing on his feet. Then, he opened the paper drawer in the teacher's desk, and started ripping up the papers. He tossed them in the air, over all the students. Mal laughed and joined Jay. Evie and Carlos started to leave.

"Where are you going?" Mal asked.

"Outside," Evie replied.

"If it's a free period, we can go outside, right?" Carlos asked.

"You can do whatever you want," Jay said, "but I'm staying right here."

"I'll come with you," Mal said, as she walked over to join them.

"Then I'm coming too," Jay followed.

Suddenly, Mal held a finger to her lips, motionting for her friends to be quiet. She pointed to the end of the hall. Standing under the big, black, dead hanging spider were Lady Tremaine and a tall figure Mal couldn't make out. Whoever they were, they had on a big black robe and a purple cape trailed behind them. They also had a tall black hat, so even their hair was unrecognizable.

"Huh," Carlos frowned. "I've never seen him before."

"Or her," Mal added. "We don't know if it's a male."

"Maybe they're from Auradon!" Evie sighed dreamily. "And maybe they're going to take us home with them!"

"Ew, no," Mal's face twisted with disgust. "Not to Auradon."

"Ya, there's nothing there but cake and royals," Jay added.

"Then I really hope they're not from Auradon," Evie lied.

"Me too," Mal and Jay spoke together.

"Me too," Carlos repeated, not wanting to stand out. "I mean me three."

"Listen!" Evie said. "I can hear them!"

"I think we should," They heard Lady Tremaine say. "It's about time."

"Time for what?" Jay asked.

"Shhhh!" Mal, Evie and Carlos whispered.

"I will need payment," The mysterious stranger said.

"I will pay," Lady Tremaine replied.

"Pay? Money?" Jay wondered out loud, his face lighting up.

"Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" His three friends shushed him, but it was too late. The two adults had heard them. Mal saw them turning around and grabbed Evie and Carlos.

"Follow me, Jay," She hissed into his ear. Dragging the Vks Behind her, Mal ducked under a cracking wood table, pulling the black tablecloth over the side so it covered them. They were just in time! Both the stranger and Lady Tremaine turned, but seeing nothing, they went back to their conversation.

"The students are useless," Lady Tremaine said.

"They're talking about us!" Jay whispered under his breath, frowning.

Mal cocked her ear, straining to hear more.

"The students can be trained," The stranger argued. "We can start today. In all classes."

Lady Tremaine and the stranger moved farther down the hall, inaudible now, and out of eyesight. Jay leaned back against the table leg, wondering what that all meant.

"Guys!" Mal warned. "It's going to-"

Suddenly, the table legs buckled and the whole thing collapsed on their heads. Carlos screamed, and Evie clamped a hand over her mouth in surprise and horror.

"Fall," Mal finished, struggling to lift the heavy legs off her back.

"Oops," Jay mumbled.

Evie crawled out of the debris and stretched out a hand to Mal. Mal hesitated, but seeing no other option, she took the outstretched hand. Evie pulled Mal to safety, and together, they lifted the table. Jay immediately ran out, but Carlos hesitated.

"Come on, Carlos!" Mal snapped. "We don't have all day."

"It's ok, you don't have to be scared," Evie told him gently. "If you get out now, you won't get hurt."

Slowly, Carlos emerged from the broken wood. Mal's arms sagged from the weight of the table, and she quickly dropped it onto the floor. Evie rubbed her bruised elbow, and got up.

"We should go back to class," Evie said. "We don't want anyone to see the mess we made."

For once, Mal didn't argue, and the four friends walked down the hall and back to class.
