Chapter Fifteen

-"Lynn arranges for a messenger to deliver the recording to Catherine job. She typed a note on the outside of the box that said congratulations on your new job so she will open it. She makes sure it is not traced back to her so she thinks. It was Catherine's first day at the office, and she was so happy: she had a new job, was getting married to the love of her life, and was going to have a baby. She was over the moon. She meets with her staff and learns what everyone skill can do. She asks them to continue on with their duties while she goes over some files and reports. Mail is delivered around 10. There is a box delivered to her that says congratulations on your new job and you deserve it. She thinks it is from Steve and thinks now he is now so romantic and loves him even more. Her office door is closed so she opened the box and was surprised to see a tape recorder, she thought he left her a very special congratulations. She hit play and started to tremble and sit down as she listened to it. It was Steve, Danny, and Lou discussing how they think she is a liar and not sure the baby is his, and she trapped him. How much he loves his time with Lynn, and if she hadn't come back, he would have stayed with Lynn, but he not that sort of man.

-"Danny and Lou both tell him they didn't want to think it but were wondering the same thing, especially if the baby might not be his. Steve says there is nothing he can do now and he is trap. Catherine is crying and can't believe it. She thought he was in love with her and wanted her and the baby, and now he doubts that it his. She immediately dried her eyes and found the strength to tell her employees she had an emergency and had to leave for the day. They wonder if she the kind of boss who will never be around. She goes to her boss and says I am sorry, but Mom needs me because of a medical crisis with her Father, and she has to leave now but will let him know when she is able to return. She understood if he couldn't hold the job for him. He could tell she was upset and said go, family first, and to keep him updated. She goes home, packs her things, and takes the next flight to her parent's house. -"Steve comes home and finds some of her clothing is missing. She hasn't answer a text or call all day. He found a note on the bed: you didn't have to lie to me about wanting to marry me; if you wanted Lynn, all you had to do was tell me. I never lied to you, and the baby is yours, and sorry if you feel trapped. I hope you, Danny, and Lou can truly be brothers again and not have to talk about me behind my back. I am heading to the mainland. I am not heartless, and you will be able to see your child when he is born. Please don't try and contact me before then. Go back to your precious Lynn.

-"Steve can't believe it; what in the hell is she talking about? He lost, he called her over and over. Call her job and was told she was going to the mainland to see her parents about medical about her Father. He is so confused about what Danny and Lou have to do. He started to think about last night's poker game, but they didn't say anything out of place while he was there. Did they tell Catherine something else, and she believed he went along with it? He didn't know what to think; He was beyond piss. He went to Danny's house. Danny answered, hey, didn't expect to see you. What the hell did you say to Catherine? What are you talking about? I get home; there is a note saying I can be with Lynn, and you and Lou two didn't have to talk about her behind her back. The baby is mine and she never tried to trap me. Danny is in shock because he doesn't know why Catherine wrote that about them. Calm down Steve; we didn't say anything to Catherine; I promise you that. Well. She left me and went to her parents. I am just as lost as you. This doesn't make sense, buddy. Man, I don't know what's going on, but I can promise you I will get to the bottom. I got to go, and he slams the door.

-"He tried her parents, and her Dad answered Steve, I am really pissed at you right now, and we finally got Catherine to calm down. Please give her some space so she won't lose the baby. She played the recording for us, and I must say I am appalled. What recording sir? The recording of you telling Danny and Lou how you think she trapped you and the baby might be yours. Some other woman named Lynn is who you want and your friends agreeing on this is the truth and telling you to find out. Steve is shocked: SIR, I never said those things; As a matter of fact, I know my friends didn't either. Trust me. I love Catherine and our baby and she it for me. I don't know but the recordings say something else. Give her some space. Our first priority is our daughter, and right now, she is in no shape to deal with you. You can call me in a couple of days to check on her. Do not come here because I will not let you in, and I have a lot of pull in this town. Catherine was heartbroken when you broke up with her. She knew it was her fault, but it broke her into two pieces when she loved you so much. She never cheated on you or tried to move on. She loves you, and in her eyes, you came first, and she would do anything to keep you safe.

-"She was so happy that you were getting married and then found out you were going to have a baby. To hear you and your friend's question that, it took her back to a dark place. We called the Dr. and she said the baby was doing fine. She needs to rest and avoid any stress. That we will do. Sir, I love Catherine and the baby, and I don't know how, but I will fix this, and that recording is a lie. Okay and bye son.

-"Steve can't believe that, and somehow, there is a recording of him saying he wants Lynn. He is devasted. He lost, so he called Chinn & Kono because he trusted them. He asked both of them to come to his house asap. I get home today and Catherine left a note saying I could be happy with Lynn now and I didn't have to lie. That I, along with Danny and Lou, didn't have to question if the baby was mine. She didn't answer, so I called her Dad, and she was there and said she had a recording of me, Danny and our saying all of this. She was so upset that the doctor had to give her something to relax and she can't have any stress. I don't know what the fuck is going on. I need to talk to someone. Chin & Kono are shock. Boss, regarding The recording, I think they might have taped your conversation and then got someone to edit it and make it seem like you agree with what you've been saying. We need to find the original. They had to use someone that good in the field. I can reach out to Toast to see if know who that might be and ask him to keep on the down low. Once we have that you can prove to Catherine it was a lie. For now, I think you should respect her parents' request and not try to contact her. You can send yourself an email on how you feel, so once you prove to her about the recording, you can show her the email you sent every day. Thanks, that sounds good. Let's go to work. Contact Toast now and I have a feeling Lynn is part of this also. I might have to trick her to see if I can get more info out of her. If you do, boss, do it in a public place and make sure she doesn't take any pic or try to record. I can do that. I really appreciate you all having my back. I won't rest until I get Catherine and our baby back here. They left and went to work.. He is in full-blown badass McGarrett form. He called Lynn; hey Steve, I am surprised to hear from you. I know I was wondering if you could meet me for drinks at the Hilton. Sure, I love too. She immediately texted Melissa, is working; I am meeting him for drinking in an hour. Awesome, and good luck.
