Chapter Sixteen
-"Steve meets Lynn and turns on his recording so she can't lie. She said hey, I didn't expect to hear from you again. He said well, I am feeling down because Catherine left me again. I know it's not your fault and I just felt like talking to an old friend. She believed every word and just smiled. Thinking her plan had worked beautifully. I am so sorry, Steve. Did she say why?
-" She just said she knew I wanted to be with you, and she felt like she was in the way. Did she say anything about the baby? He was curious why she would ask that. No, why did you ask that? Melissa said Danny mentioned something about maybe the baby wasn't yours. He told Kono to text him at a certain time so he could leave. Sorry, I just got a text from Kono about work. Thanks for meeting me and see you later. He leaves but stands to the side so she can't see him; he sees her immediately, gets on the phone and laughs. All he can make out her saying is that her plan is working.
-"He calls Kono & Chin and asks them to meet him at the house. They all meet; I am sure Lynn has something to do with it; she knew too much, and I heard her say her plan is working. Boss, Jerry, reached out to some of his contacts, and they said that the only person they knew who might alter a recording was one known criminal named Jeff. He will do it for any price and does a lot of work on dark web. Can we get an address for him? Jerry set up a fake name and account and is going to pretend he needs some work done. Once he agrees, he will send Jerry the address where to meet. We will be the one that shows up at that address. We just have to wait. I know, but it's killing me being away from Catherine. We know, boss, but we will get Catherine back. Thanks guys, for your support.
-"Another day passed, and Jerry finally had the address. The three of them showed up at the addresses with all the info Jerry gave them. The guy only sees Steve and buzzes him in; he leaves the door ajar, so Chin & Kono follow him. Steve go ahead and show his badge. Listen here, I am got some questions for you, and if you lie to me, so help me God I will throw your ass in jail and you never see the light again. What? I haven't committed any crimes. I bet if I get my computer guy to thru your computer. He will find all sorts of criminal activities and your clients won't be too happy because they will be getting a trip to jail also. What do you want man? He shows him a picture of Lynn. Do you know this lady? Yes, she came to me about a week ago asking me to doctorate some recordings she had. Some? Did she have more than one? He gets recording and Steve hits play. This was actually the recording and what he said to Lou and Danny. Also, Lou and Danny said they were happy for Steve and made jokes about him changing diapers. They knew he loved Catherine and how sorry they were about trying to help Lynn. He also heard in the original them saying he was so happy about the baby and engagement to Catherine.
-"Kono said Boss, they didn't betray you again. Steve smiled and was grateful they were on his side. Someone in that house records them. He gave Steve those recordings; no wonder Catherine left and believed he wanted to be with Lynn. Chin& Kono are in shock also. Boss it is a wondering Catherine didn't hit you in the head with something. Lynn is totally crazy. I have a feeling Melissa recorded this; I didn't t think she would even go that low. Listen to me from now on you are only going to do legit work. I will find out, and if you don't I am putting your ass in jail. They took the copies and left. What do we know? I am going to confront Lyn with you two with me, and I am going to tell her if she doesn't leave this island and if she ever contacts Catherine again, I will find something to put her in jail for a long time. It is against the law to record someone without their permission. She paid a criminal to commit a crime, so I can get her on that and, I am sure, some other charges. Let's go so I can get this done and get on a plane to see Catherine. They left and went to Lynn's house; she was surprised to see Steve there with Chin & Kono; although he never introduced them or hung out, she knew who they were.
-"This is a surprise, come in. Steve said Lynn, the jig is up. I found that the Son of Bitch you hired to alter the recording. I have both the originals and the ones you had altered and sent to Catherine. Who record this? He was yelling and she had never seen him this mad. She knew she couldn't lie. She said I got Melissa to do it; she told me when you were coming over to play poker. She hid it under the sofa. Was Danny & Lou in on the recording? He believes they didn't but needed her to admit it. No, they had no idea I was recording them and was going to make it seem like they were against you and Catherine. Did you deliver this to the Catherine office? Yes I did. Steve, that bitch doesn't deserve you, and are you sure the baby is yours? I swear to God you better not mention Catherine's name again. I won't hit you, but Kono will. This is what is going to happen: you are going to pack your bags tonight, go to the mainland, and not contact Catherine or me again. What if I don't? You committed a crime with recording without permission; you paid a criminal to do it, and you violated Catherine, Danny Lou, and my civil rights. I will lock your ass up so fast and see to you get the max, which should be about 15 years. Let me tell you Hawala jail is nowhere you want to be. What is going to be leave or jail? Lynn knew she didn't want to go to jail. I'm leaving but I love you and we were so good together, Lynn. How many times have I got to tell you, when I was with you, I was thinking about Catherine? I never love you and never will. Kono is going to stay here to make sure you get on a plane tonight. You can hire someone to pack the rest of your stuff up and get rid of your house and car, I don't get a damn. He left to her screaming Steve don't go I love you. Chin let go; I got a place to catch.
-"Steve was relieved and prayed Catherine would believe the recording. Chin said you want me to go with you so she will know everything is the truth. That's okay, man; I know Catherine. She will know it's the truth. Thanks. When you get back to the office, tell Danny & Lou what went down and how Melissa betrayed them. Chin dropped Steve off, and he was able to get into a fight, leaving in an hour. Chin went back to the office; Danny & Lou were near the bullpen. Hey where you been? Well, Kono and Steve have been out investigating why Catherine left Steve. Danny, we found out that the conversation you two had with him at your house was recorded. We didn't record it. No but Melissa did and then gave the tape to Lynn. Who hired someone to alter it to make it seem like the three of you believed she was a liar the baby was not his, and he wanted to be with Lynn and not Catherine. Lynn sent the tape to Catherine at her office, who was so upset and could have lost the baby and she went to her parents. The recording sounded real, and you couldn't tell it was fake. Luckily the scumbag still had the original. Are you serious? Yes, he told Lynn to leave town, or he would press charges against her and never to contact him or Catherine again. Let's just say she is on her way out of town now. Danny said I can't believe Melissa was on this. Excuse me, I am back to open up a can of whoop ass on her. Danny, I know you're mad, but you can't hit her. Oh, I am not going to hit her but pack her shit and throw her out and tell her ass off. With that, he left.
