My Pov
I browsed the shelves in the library, looking for a certain book.
"Where is it?" I asked out loud. I thought the book was right here. I turned around to go down another aisle, when I came face-to-face with the Diasomnia Vice Dorm Leader, Lilia Vanrouge. Rather face-to-upside face.
"Looking for something?" he asked, smiling sweetly.
"Wah!" I yelped, falling backwards.
"Khee hee! Are you all right, Prefect Yurina?" Lilia-senpai asked.
"I would be if you would give a little warning when you're going to do that." I said, getting up off the floor. I dusted myself before looking at the upside down fae. "Do you enjoy scaring people, Lilia-senpai?" He flipped himself right-side up.
"Of course! It's such fun!" he answered. I sighed and smiled a little. I couldn't get mad at him. He really was too adorable. "Anyway, back to my question; looking for something?"
"Yes. I was looking for any books about the Thorn Fairy. I need more information about her for my report for History of Magic." I said.
"Why don't I help you?" Lilia-senpai asked. I tilted my head a little, in confusion. "I may not look it, but I've been around for a long time. Not around the time of the Thorn Fairy, mind you, but I can tell you more than what a book can."
"You can't possibly be that old." I said.
"Oh yes. I'm going on 700." Lilia-senpai said. I dropped everything I was holding and just gawked at him. I tried to say something, but I was just in shock. He was over half a millennium old?! Lilia-senpai then placed a hand under my chin and lifted my jaw up. I blushed a little at the sudden action. "Don't leave your mouth hanging open."
"Sorry. I just... would never have guessed." I said.
"Well, I am cursed with a baby-face." Lilia-senpai said, smiling sweetly. My heart fluttered slightly. I shook my head, trying to snap at of it.
"Back to the topic of my report, I don't want to be a bother." I said.
"It's no bother. I glad to see someone outside of Diasomnia taking an interest in the Thorn Fairy." Lilia-senpai said. I smiled and we sat down at a nearby table. Lilia-senpai began to talk and I wrote down anything I found to be very interesting. After about an hour, I felt my report was perfect.
"Thank you, Lilia-senpai!" I said, bowing my head quickly. "What can I do to thank you?" Lilia-senpai seemed to think about my offer and then his eyes lit up.
"Would a walk through the forest suffice?" he asked. I thought for a minute and it did sound nice.
"Sure! Let me just take my bag back to the dorm real quick." I said.
"I'll accompany you back." Lilia-senpai said. We walked back to Ramshackle so I could put my stuff up. Well, I walked. Lilia-senpai floated. As I approached the door, it opened to reveal Hikari.
"Oh! Yurina, Vanrouge-senpai. What's up?" she asked.
"Lilia-senpai and I were going to go on a leisure walk through the forest. I was just bring my stuff back." I answered. Hikari took my stuff and sat it by the entrance.
"You two go on your walk. I'm heading out to meet Tsunotaro." Hikari said, closing the door behind her.
"Oh..." I said, narrowing my eyes and smiling mischievously. Hikari blushed on cue and started stuttering.
"W-w-we're j-j-just going to the library!" she exclaimed.
"Okay." I said. She hurried past us, redder than Rosehearts-senpai's hair.
"Tsunotaro? I don't think I know a student by that name?" Lilia-senpai said.
"Oh, it's a nickname. He wouldn't tell us his name and just said to call him whatever. I think he's in your dorm, since he wears a green vest." I said.
"Oh? Does he have any outstanding features?" Lilia-senpai asked.
"Yes. He has these really long horns sticking out of his head." I said. Realization seemed to dawn on him almost instantly as a playful smile stretched across his face.
"Oh ho. I believe I know who you're referring to. I can't believe he'd let humans call him by such playful nickname." Lilia-senpai said, bursting into laughter. I was confused. "Never mind, Prefect. Come, let's go on our walk." Lilia walked through the forest, noting all the little forest animals that made themselves known. Soon, we came to a clearing where there was possibly the largest flower field I've seen. I ran and knelt down to one bed of flowers. Forget-me-nots. I carefully picked one and inhaled the scent.
"Forget-me-nots?" Lilia-senpai asked.
"Yes. I love them mainly because of their meaning in Hanakotoba; true love." I said, sighing.
"Ah. I was right about you being a bit a romantic, Yurina." Lilia-senpai said.
"Of course. Aren't you?" I asked. That's when I noticed the joyful light leave Lilia-senpai's eyes and his face became something I had never seen on him before. He looked like he had been struck with melancholy.
"I use to be. Back when she was still with me..." Lilia-senpai mumbled. She? I tilted my head a little. "My wife." He had a wife?
"Wh-what happened to her, if you don't mind me asking?" I asked.
"She died during the war. She shielded me from a Silver Owl's spear and died in my arms." Lilia-senpai said. My felt my heart clench.
"I'm sorry." I said. I saw him pick up two camellia flowers, one white and one yellow. He must hide his sadness a lot from people. He twirled the flowers between his fingers.
"Her name was Primrose. She was the embodiment of the flower she was named after; youthful and innocent. I still remember she shoved a primrose and said; 'I can't live without you! That's what this flower symbolizes!' I remember how flustered I got and then how much I laughed before pulling her into the biggest hug and telling her that she didn't have to ever again." Lilia-senpai said. Okay, now he's just breaking my heart. I don't know what came over me, but I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him tight. "Oh? What's this?"
"I'm sorry for making relive pain memories." I said. I felt his hand pat my back.
"No, I actually feel a little better about it. I never talk to anyone else in my dorm about Prim and lately, it seems that she's crossing my mind more frequently as of late." Lilia-senpai said. He stood up and then gave me a familiar smile. "Thank you Yurina. I do hope our relationship continues to grow." Lilia picked up a nearby red primrose and tucked it behind my ear. "There." I blushed, before smiling.
"Me too, Lilia." I said. With that we walked back to Ramshackle where we bid each other good night. I placed the red primrose in a vase and smiled at it.
Lilia's Pov
I made my way back to Diasomnia, my thoughts wandering. I made it back to my room and laid on my bed. I stared at the ceiling before reaching into my pillowcase and pulling out a small locket, yellow primroses decorated it, and a small white primrose that I enchanted. I kissed the flower before opening the locket. Inside, was a portrait of my late wife. Her beautiful mint green hair and her beautiful orchid eyes.
Prim... have you finally come back like you promised?
Hanakotoba is the Japanese version of flower language. So, a flowers meaning may seem different in Japan then elsewhere.
White Camellia - Waiting
Yellow Camellia - Longing
Primrose - Desperate
Primrose color meaning:
White- Can represent sadness and mourning
Red - represent passion, charm, longing, and young love
Yellow - Can represent happiness, warmth, and love
