At first, Severus Snape had been in too much grief and shock to take in the intelligence of a child barely over a year old. A child who had more knowledge than she alluded to, including keeping him from her mind save for what she wished to share. Once he'd managed to calm himself, he closed Lily's eyes and sighed, looking to the sleeping children. Yes, Harry would have to go to the Dursley's, he sneered, before looking at the sleeping toddler who'd spoken, and quite legibly as well.
"Very well child." he spoke as he lifted her sleeping form. He'd raise the girl, Violet Everglass, as his own. Turning on the spot, he glanced regretfully towards Lily once again, letting the last tear in his eyes fall, before he disapperated back to his residence.
It wasn't until after the Yule holidays when Violet was able to be officially adopted. It'd taken many trips to the Wizengamot, with skilled Aurors trying to comb her mind. But she'd remained adamant, and with her intelligence and clear-headedness, it was decided it be best she stay with the potion's master. Though, during school years she'd have to stay somewhere else, as she wasn't at an age she could attend Hogwarts.
Snape assured them he'd arrange a sitter or nanny for the times he'd have to be away. And so, with official permission, Violet was accepted into Snape's household.
As Violet would need a nanny of some sorts, shortly after being adopted Snape took the girl to Diagon Alley for the first time. A house elf would do nicely in taking care of the child while he was at the school, and during the summer he'd be able to spend time with her.
But Violet had safely secured the key to the Potter vault, and so to Gringotts they went. As she was skilled in the mental arts already, so as to not startle any wizards with her level of smarts, she spoke through Legilimancy with Snape of her plans. She would split the fortune in half, with items of importance to be sorted later, when Harry was older. Her half of the galleons, sickles, and knuts would go into her own personal vault, and a second key would be made for the Potter's vault to be sent to Dumbledore for when Harry would enter the Wizarding world at last.
They stopped by the Emporium in order to purchase a household owl before going to the House Elf Placement Agency. A stop at Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions for clothes, and then they were headed to drop off their current purchases at the house before heading to Muggle England for furniture.
Mimi, the house elf placed with them a few days later, became an excellent caretaker for the Young Mistress, becoming somewhat of a perfect nanny. Though she couldn't take Violet for walks outside, Severus had put multiple wards around the backyard, allowing Violet to get plenty of sun when it was out.
Years had passed since that night, and though Violet missed her brother, she dare not contact him. It'd been not allowed by Dumbledore, who'd become somewhat of a frequent visitor throughout the years. And since Severus was Draco Malfoy's Godfather, she often was sent to be the boy's playmate, sometimes spending a week or two at a time at the Malfoy Manor for her lessons.
Aunt Narcissus had taught the young girl etiquette, and Lord Malfoy, as he'd taught the girl to call him as she was the heir to House Potter, taught her the intricacies of being the Lady of a Noble House along with Draco's lessons.
At the age of six, Narcissus had noticed Violet had an affinity with animals. Both large and small, animals would flock to the girl, and when asked, would do simple tasks that weren't too out of the ordinary.
Violet though, had grown into an excellent child. Taught along with Draco in Maths, English, Writing, and History via tutors, she excelled at subjects. History she'd struggled a bit at first, though over time she soon began showing promise in that subject as well. She'd inherited her eyes from her mum, though her hair was a purple-black color. In sunlight, it took on a more purple hue, though indoors it seemed more black. Her hair was straight, and by age ten was down to her waist. Cutting it didn't seem to have any difference, as her hair would swiftly grow back.
Although she hadn't been allowed to contact Harry, she'd gotten permission to have Mimi check in on him, giving her updates to his situation. Of course, Mimi wasn't allowed to help or be seen, but it put Violet at ease. It seemed, for the most part, that Harry's life was going according to the story line. It made her angry, but she understood that it was probably best for the most part. Occasionally, she was allowed to leave Harry gifts through Mimi, the boy occasionally getting well fitting socks without holes, or a new shirt.
But now it was Summer, and Severus would be home from school any minute!
"Violet, is there anything you'd like for your birthday?" Severus asked after a few days home, having tested the girl on her Potion's knowledge as well as School Rules over the past couple of days.
"Could I get a familiar?" Violet asked after a few moments of thought, tapping her chin. She knew Harry was likely to get Hedwig for his birthday, but she'd like a pet of her own.
"If you promise to take care of it." Severus had told her, and she'd promised to do so.
A week before her birthday, she'd gotten her school letter.
'Dear Miss Potter,

Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl no later than July 31st.
Yours sincerely,

Deputy Headmistress'
Following that was a list of her supplies and books she'd need, though she'd grown up getting tutored on the basics already along with Draco. Having read the books and seen the movies, she had expected not to get along with the boy, but beyond trying to please his father he didn't have any true faults. She knew that would probably change, but for the moment she and him were at the very least cordial with each other, if not friends. They didn't write, and due to Violet not attending the pureblood events hosted by the Noble Houses, often times Violet only saw him when she was staying at the Malfoy Manor for lessons.
"Professor, shall I write Aunt Narcissus about getting school supplies?" Violet questioned as she read over what she'd need. Of course, she already had her potions supplies, but she'd need to get books and new quills for school, as well as her wand. "I know you don't want to run into my brother so soon." she'd added with a softer tone, a small smile on her lips.
"Very well. I suppose that would be wise." Severus had replied, and soon after Violet was penning Narcissus for just that. Two days before her birthday, she received a reply that they'd leave in two days, and to have Mimi bring her over.
'Soon...soon I will meet my brother.' Violet thought to herself as she dressed herself for bed, dousing the candle on her nightstand.
