Author's Note from Mat49324: Oh, look, it's my 37th one-shot! If you saw my last one-shot, it dealt with the spies celebrating the 4th of July with a pool barbecue. This time, I've decided to try this again with them at the beach. I think I've summed it up, just about. Anyway, for now, here's The Blue Time Ranger if he's got something he'd like to say.
Author's Note from The Blue Time Ranger:And we've got another one-shot to keep you guys occupied while we work on other things related to The New Adventures (and not, in my case; I really need to get back to Key to Her Heart re:Verse II). Let's have some more summer fun as summer itself winds down, shall we? ROLL IT!
Title: Beachside Blast
Summary: What happened if the spies spent the 4th of July at the beach?
Rating: K
Story Created: 8/25/24
9:59 A.M. – Santa Monica Beach
"Did we bring everything we need?" Alex wondered.
Clover was driving everyone for a beach camping trip... well, almost everyone. Sam, Britney, and Alex were in tow; Nick and Blaine were picking up some extra foods while Mat was staying at their reserved spot.
"I think we did," Britney replied.
"Hopefully Mat was able to find a good spot," Sam commented.
"I'm sure he did," Britney told Sam.
Alex got on her phone to call Nick to see how he and Blaine were coming along with the food hunting.
"How goes the food hunt, you two?" Alex asked.
"Mostly good so far," Blaine's voice answered. "They moved some of the things around, so we're still trying to find those spicy chips Nick likes."
"I swear, I'm gonna clonk whoever keeps shuffling everything around," Nick groaned. "We'll call back once we've found our quarry, 'kay?"
"Roger that," Alex quipped.
"Anybody see Mat yet?" Clover asked.
"Not yet," Sam replied.
It took a few more minutes, but Alex finally spotted Mat. He was easy to spot, since he was wearing a 2011 throwback Motocross shirt that read "Seely 36" on the back to signify 2015 Houston Supercross winner Cole Seely. Mat was already waving his arm at them simultaneously.
"Looks pretty good," Alex remarked.
They all remembered tents were prohibited on all L.A. beaches. Mat had just set up a good spot for the day.
"Well, let's have some fun," Clover giggled.
All four spies had their X-Powders and did wardrobe changes. They all chose to wear two-pieces for the day.
"Well, I'm not wasting any time," Clover proclaimed and went for the ocean.
"You aren't gonna wait for Nick and Blaine?" Alex asked, which made Clover stop in her tracks.
"Hey, it's a hot summer day and we're at the beach," Clover quipped. "Ain't no way in heck I'm passing this opportunity up!"
Not waiting for another response, Clover raced towards the water and did a fancy jump into the water, even striking a pose as she did so.
"Look at that little ham," Sam chuckled.
"I'll admit, she's got a good point," Mat quipped. "It's hot out here today, and the water's right there."
"Well, maybe you can give it a shot now that we're back," Nick chuckled as he and Blaine arrived, carrying their share of the food. Right behind them was Nozomi, dressed in a two-piece golden-orange swimsuit and carrying a couple bags herself.
"Oh, hey, Nozomi, we didn't know you were here, too," Britney stated.
"She actually helped us find the last of our supplies," Blaine quipped.
"I've had to help Nick before when it came to finding certain foods he really liked," Nozomi chuckled. "Our old mall back in Tachikawa was pretty guilty of moving things all over the place, and trust me, it drove Nick absolutely nuts at times."
"That's an understatement, really," Nick answered. "But regardless, we accomplished our own mission and got everything we needed, so I say we should be able to hit the waters, right?"
"Sounds like a plan to me!" Alex laughed once the rest of their supplies were safely set down, as she moved to grab Nick's hand and race towards the water as well.
Nozomi did a few stretches before dashing towards the water herself, mimicking Clover and cutting a stylish flip into the water.
"You coming in, honey?" Sam giggled.
"I don't see why not," Mat chuckled.
With that, Sam and Mat joined hands and raced to join the rest of the spies in the water.
"Great way to spend the 4th of July," Alex giggled.
The group of friends agreed.
"So, what brings you to BH, Nozomi?" Clover asked.
"I was just in the neighborhood, and when I heard you guys were having a beach day, I couldn't help but wanna join in," Nozomi quipped.
"Well, either way, glad you could come," Sam grinned.
"How long are you here for?" Mat wondered.
"A couple of weeks," Nozomi answered. "And I go back on Wednesday."
"Well, you picked the right time to come here," Britney quipped.
Nick noticed Alex going back to their spot. Alex was still unsuspecting of Nick's actions. And that gave him a bit of an idea.
While Alex wasn't looking, Nick took a couple steps forward, only to stop when Alex looked his way. This cycle repeated for about a minute until Alex eventually caught Nick stepping close to her.
Alex gasped at that until it DID turn into a chase between the two, Alex letting out a laugh while Nick adopted his best "I'm gonna get you my pretty" expression.
"Look at that little ham bone," Nozomi chuckled.
Mat shortly noticed that Nick and Alex weren't still in the ocean with them, but he did see them chasing each other a while later.
"Well, whoever instigated that had the right idea," Nozomi commented.
Mat offered the same thing to Sam, but she declined; he wasn't mad at all.
"I think now wouldn't be a bad time for a lunch break or whatnot," Blaine told the others.
That was exactly what they did.
"Am I glad they had pretty much everything we were looking for," Blaine chuckled.
"Tell me about it," Clover quipped. "Just keep the spicy chips away from me and we're good."
"What, you don't like spicy stuff, Clover?" Sam wondered.
Nick and Alex saw the group having lunch and joined as well.
"You missed out on Mat telling about 4th of July celebrations in Hawaii, Alex," Britney teased.
"Oh, well," Alex chuckled.
Before long, Sam felt her shoulder being tugged gently by Mat. She then sat in front of him, and the two began hugging and kissing.
"Well, looks like some fireworks are sparked already," Nick joked to them.
"...Nick, that pun was awful and you know it," Nozomi chuckled.
"Hey, I workshop a lot of these, and they can't all be gold," Nick quipped.
That last line got everybody laughing.
"Holy jeez, there's a lot of people here," Nozomi noted after looking around at how many other people were at the beach doing basically the same thing they were.
"If you thought this is something, Nozomi, you should have seen the crowd this one time back home," Nick responded. "Dad had to drive around for forty minutes just to find a spot for the lakefront fireworks because all of the normal viewing spots were absolutely packed."
"Were they a big thing in your parts?" Britney asked.
"Oh, man, the lakefront fireworks back in Tachikawa might as well have been a major event with how many people it kept drawing every year," Nick replied. "I remember this one time they couldn't hold the fireworks one year because of budget issues, and a lot of people were pretty upset."
"Wait, I think I remember that one," Nozomi chuckled. "Wasn't that the time where May kinda flipped her lid and actually waltzed over to the city hall to demand an explanation?"
"Wait, she actually did that?" Mat laughed.
"We were young and dumb back then," Nick quipped. "Thankfully, I was able to calm her down and get her to back off. They actually did the fireworks the next year because they fixed that whole budget thing."
"That's kinda funny that she really thought complaining to the city hall was gonna change a budget issue," Alex giggled.
"Like I said, young and dumb does things to our minds," Nick quipped.
The hours passed with the spies enjoying the beach.
Britney checked the time.
"Oh, 4:30," Britney told the others.
"I guess this means we better get at least another water session in before the lifeguards order us out," Clover stated.
She and Blaine went back in, but Sam and Alex didn't feel up for one more; Britney, however, did go with them.
"So, I guess we should try spend the next 4th of July in Hawaii," Alex suggested.
"Not gonna say no," Sam giggled, knowing Mat was originally from Hawaii.
"Ooh, that sounds like fun," Nozomi chuckled.
"No kidding," Nick quipped.
"Well, either way, we still have to reserve a spot and such," Mat pointed out. "And do it almost a day in advance, too..."
"Noted," Nick chuckled.
"I just hope I'll be able to find a flight out to Hawaii if Nick invites me," Nozomi added.
"Otherwise, hopefully Dawn or Melissa or Haruka might be available," Nick stated.
After another twenty minutes, Sam and Mat went for a final swim; Nick and Alex went in two minutes after that.
At about 5:30, everyone was ordered out of the water by the lifeguards.
"Probably the only thing that doesn't change no matter where you are," Mat told the others. "The sun going down."
"No argument there," Clover quipped.
Sam was about to at least put a shirt or jacket on, but Mat stopped her.
"I think it's better without the jacket," Mat told her. "Unless you're feeling that cold?"
"Just a little cold, but probably nothing too worrisome," Sam answered. "I'm keeping the jacket on standby just in case."
"That sounds like something I'd do for sure," Nozomi chuckled.
As the spies continued to converse about recent events to pass the time, eventually Nick saw something flying into the sky.
"Hey, everyone, looks like the show's about to start!" Nick proclaimed.
"I'm rooted to my spot, trust me," Alex responded.
Sure enough, the fireworks began properly. The spies were even surprised to see some very interesting patterns created by said fireworks. (Nick always did wonder how they pulled that off.)
When the fireworks finally ended about thirty minutes later, Nozomi couldn't help but look up into the sky where the fireworks had been going off.
"That's always the part that gets me," Nozomi admitted. "You wait so long for the big event to get here, and when it finally happens, it feels like it's over in a flash."
"That can be applied to a lot of things, really," Nick noted.
"I think we can still squeeze in some beach time before we gotta head back," Clover quipped. "What do you all say?"
A loud splash caught the spies' attention, and they looked towards the water to see May quickly rising from the water, looking all wet and perturbed, and chasing after Souji, who was shouting panicked apologies while the rest of the Jellyfish Pirates could only look on in amusement. Nick could even swear he heard Yuki going "I told you so".
"That was... a thing," Sam chuckled.
"I think Souji tried to dunk May again," Nick stated. "It seems like he didn't learn his lesson from the last time he did that. Regardless, I'd better go and stop May before she gets herself in over her head again."
With that, Nick moved to stop May's 'rampage' while the rest of the spies continued to enjoy their beach day.
