"Hi everyone, it's me, Mako Igri, personal assistant for Midari Ikishima, President of the Beautification Council. It feels odd to be the center of focus ever, I tend to be timid around most people. That is just how I have always been. At least that is how I was before I was hired by Ms. Ikishima. I am still not entirely sure what she sees in me but has reassured me that I am one of kind, I just don't see it."
"I was in the main gambling hall of Hyakkaou one day as a friend wanted me stay by her side for moral support while gambling. I personally do not gamble much myself. I am able to get around the mittens status by my parents offering free medical treatment to the student council president and member chairs at the Igri Memorial Hospital. It is a special arrangement I don't divulge into much as my peers may look at me with envy and discontent. My friend takes my hand as I was distracted by seeing a gun in the gambling hall. It was being wielded by a girl with an eye patch. Does she ever replace it or at least wash it? It is easy for infections to form when gauze and other bandages are damp... I am getting distracted again. Sorry."
Mako gets drug to a table offering poker dice. The price for entry is five-hundred thousand yen. Her friend comes from a family that manufactures a specific electrolyte drink quite popular in Japan despite its unappetizing name. She receives pays the entry fee and receives fifty ten-thousand-yen chips in return. The first game begins, Mako's friend bets fifty-thousand yen for the first round. She receives a three of a kind of sevens. Not off to a bad start. Mako cheers her friend through the next couple rounds. Unfortunately, her friend's luck appeared to have disappeared quickly. By the end of the second hour, she lost a total of seven million yen. She felt panicked, asking desperately for Mako's help. "I need your help." Mako was not planning on spending any money today, but her friend seems desperate enough. "Please, if you lend me some money, I promise to pay you back when I win it all back..." She was interrupted by the person who Mako has been looking at from time to time over the past couple hours. "Ah shut up, you look pathetic hounding this meek girl for money!" She points her magnum at Mako. "Here's a closer look. Is that better?" Now Mako was feeling anxious, but she did not decide to move away from the gun. "My apologies, I did not mean to stare. I am just curious. Why do you carry a gun in the academy?" Midari looked at Mako with a blank stare. "Huh? I mean it makes me feel powerful and distinguishes me from the rest of the student body, I am not the only person here that wears a bow unfortunately."
Midari walks up and whispers into Mako's ear, "Follow me and I'll show you something that we can both enjoy." Mako felt hesitant but something felt oddly comforting about Midari's offer. The tone of Midari's voice made it sound like she was dying to leave the gambling hall. Mako turns to her friend. "I'm sorry but I know you will get through this." Midari grinned. "That a girl." She dragged Mako off to their next destination.
