A/N: Sorry for the late update. School and homework's been stressful, and I couldn't find much time to write. I'll try to update weekly from now on.
Raphael was pretty sure that the light in his room wasn't usually that bright. He was also pretty sure that he hadn't left it on, when he went to sleep. When did he go to sleep? Now that he thought about it, he didn't remember climbing into bed. He didn't even remember going back to the lair.
Then why was he in this bed?
Not his bed.
He jackknifed straight up, the sheets falling into his lap. He glanced around wildly, his breaths slowing. Mikey and Donnie were in beds similar to his. Where Leo was, he didn't seemed to be in a sort of dorm room, with room for four, though it was more like a small apartment. To his left was a door that he assumed was the exit, and to his right was a door that was open, giving him a glimpse of the kitchen. There was the sound of discussion coming from the kitchen, so he climbed out of the bed, steadying himself with the wall. He quietly crept through the door so as not to wake the others and nearly gasped out loud when he saw two winged unicorns casually chatting next to the window wall. Usually, he would've charged straight at them, but this time, he felt so tired that he decided to just observe them first, and then attack, if needed.
The first one was taller and obviously superior, as she wore a crown, necklace and ornamental horseshoes. Her mane and tail were black and blue and seemed to be bloodstained. The second was green- and he was wearing Leo's gear. Raph growled and reached for his sais, but
they weren't there. He scanned the room, and spotted them on the table between the two horses.
Crap.
"I know you're there." The taller horse said without turning to look at him.
"Why don't you come over?"
Hesitantly, he started towards them. Then he stopped.
"Raph. What aren't you coming?"
"How d'you know my name?" He snapped.
The green horse glanced at the purple one."Oh yeah, I forgot about that."
"Tell me when you want me to turn him." She answered.
"Yeah." He turned back to face him. He sucked in his cheeks and let them puff back outwards, looking thoughtful. "Don't you recognise your own brother?" He said, after a second.
"L-Leo?"
"Who else would I be?"
"Leo, where are we? Why d'you look like that? Who's this? What're you doin'?"
"Whoa, whoa, slow down. We'll answer all of your questions, but first of all, this is Evernight."
Raph glowered at her. "Pleasure." She said, straight faced.
"I think she should be the one to answer your questions, since she was the one who brought us here."
—-
"So ya need our help?"
"That is correct." Raph stared suspiciously at Evernight. He still didn't trust her.
"I've already agreed." Leo added. Raph shifted his glare to him.
"Whad'you mean, you've already agreed?! Are you outta your mind? And you can't decide for me. Or Mikey. Or Donnie." He poked his finger at his elder brother's chest. "This is crazy! I wake up here, walk around the corner and two freaking talking ponies tell me a whole buncha bull."
Leo flared his wings. "Well, yes, but that was before I got to know her better. And don't forget, right now, I also happen to be a 'freaking talking pony'." He said.
"What the actual-"
"Raph. Look at me." He grudgingly did so. "I trust her. Do you trust me?"
"I-I guess…"
"Well then we'll go with her, and if she betrays us, which I'm confident she won't, then you can say I told you so."
"Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you." He grumbled. Leo rolled his eyes.
"Should we do the transformation now?" Leo asked the other pony-Evernight-whatever she was called.
"Your call."
"Hey, I never said I wanted to look like a freaky unicorn." They both ignored him.
"Whenever you're ready." Evernight said, her horn lighting up.
"Ugh, just do it already." The words had barely left his mouth when an intense pain rocketed through his limbs. He bit his tongue, trying to hold his pain in.
He couldn't hold it in any longer.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He screamed in agony, thrashing his limbs as if he could shake off the pain. He yelled until his throat went hoarse but still, the pain didn't disperse. Black spots appeared in his vision, so he squeezed his eyes shut.
"Aauughh…" He whispered. The pain had stopped sometime before, but he still couldn't move. After a few seconds, he summoned enough strength to open his eyes, just a crack.
He was on the floor. Since when did he get on the floor?
Leo was leaning over him, looking concerned.
"Raph, you better be okay."
"Leo, is that you? What's going on? Was that Raph?" Mikey's voice said, faintly. And then quieter, "I've never heard him scream so loudâ" Raph whimpered. It was a sound he had almost never made in his life, but now, he could make no other noise. Leo pulled him into a sitting position. He yelped in pain, recoiling. "Where does it hurt?" Leo asked. "M' right arm." He mumbled. He hissed when Leo touched the aforementioned limb. "Sorry, sorry." Leo said, grimacing as he felt along Raph's arm and leg. As Leo got closer to his shoulder, he felt him stop and gasp. "Donnie, can you get over here?" he said.
"What's all the commotion about?" Raph imagined his purple clad brother walking into the room.
"That's not possible." Donnie's voice echoed. "Unicorns aren't real, especially not the winged variety."
"Well, now you're looking at three of them." Leo snapped. "Raph's hurt."
"His front shoulder and hind knee are both bent at weird angles. How in hell did this happen? Leo, was he training too hard again?"
"Well, I mean, it's kinda hard to explain. I'll tell you later."
"You might have to tell me now, Leo. I need to know how he managed to dislocate two joints." Raph hissed again, as Donnie ran his hand over his shoulder.
"Um, I don't think you'll believe me, though."
"Just tell me!"
"Alright. So. Magic is real and that's why me and Raph look like this."
"It's 'Raph and I', Leo. And you're right, I don't believe you. This is most likely a feat of science, rather than magic."
"Correct my grammar later! Can't you see he's in pain?"
It was true. Though he was trying his best to hide it, every time he moved, agony spiked through his injured joints.
"Just hold him still, Leo." Raph felt a pair of hooves grip him firmly on his back.
"Okay. 3, 2-"
Raph squirmed and yelled as Donnie popped his arm back into it's socket. "You didn't even get to one!" He accused. "Sorry. It's better if you're unprepared. That way you don't tense up so much. Now stop wriggling, your knee is going to be worse." Raph rolled his eyes, but did as his younger brother had told him so. He gritted his teeth in expectancy.
"Stop." Evernight commanded, her voice shot through with authority. "Leave it."
"W-what? But it's obviously twisted." Donnie argued.
"I thought you were the observant one. Have you not noticed that Leonardo and I have the same limb formation? Simple Alicorn anatomy."
"Oh." Donnie said, glancing at the two horses.
"Evernight, can you do that energy sharing thing that you did with me when I first woke up?" Leo said suddenly.
"I can try," She said, "though it may not work as well."
"Just do the best you can."
Moments passed, and he began to feel less weak. The residues of pain faded away. He lifted a hand- no, a hoof- to his forehead and found a long, conical, pointy horn projecting from his forehead. He twisted around and was surprised to first of all find large green wings on his back, which folded and unfolded at his will, and second of all, find some sort of marking depicting twin sais- his twin sais- on his flank. He whirled around to look at Leo's flank and found a similar image of crossed katanas. Evernight had one with a pointed red symbol and a crescent moon and sun.
"What the hell is this?" He said, gesturing at it. "Did Mikey doodle on me?"
"That's a cutie mark. Has nothing to do with Mikey."
"Bro, lame name!" Mikey complained. "I'm Dr Name-nstein, remember? If I was the one naming it, I would've called it 'The Mark Of Awesomeness'."
"It has been called a cutie mark for as long as I can remember, which happens to be centuries." Evernight interjected.
"Evernight, why did that happen to him? When you transformed me, I felt pain, but not that much…"
"My theory is, that you were willing to do it, so you felt less pain, while Raphael here was reluctant to do it. And when you underwent the transformation, you remained still, while your brother flailed about."
"So if the other two are willing to do it, and don't move, they will feel less pain? "
"More or less."
"Ooh! Do we get to try? I wanna be a unicorn with wings! Leo, pleeeaaaseeeeee can I try?" Mikey pleaded, completely forgetting about his brother's ordeal. If he did, he didn't show it.
"Alicorn. The word you are looking for is Alicorn." She corrected.
"I don't know, after what happened to Raph, I don't think we should…" Leo trailed off.
"Give it another day." Evernight suggested. "I am depleted of power, but should be able to perform the spell tomorrow. You can decide then."
"Yeah." Leo said, only half listening. "Tomorrow…"
Raph attempted to stand, but collapsed, still weak. "Easy, Raph." Leo murmured.
"I'm fine." He growled, trying to stand again. Leo lifted Raph up easily and draped him across his back. "You're not fine." He insisted. "C'mon, let's get you in bed."
"Hey, I'm not six." He protested.
"You need to rest." Leo said firmly.
"Yes, mother." He grumbled. Leo didn't respond. "Leo?" He poked him. "Hmm? Sorry. Justâ lost in my thoughts."
"Don't beat ya self up, it's not your fault. Ya didn't know it was gonna happen."
"Yeah, but I could've stopped her. Or-or done something to help…
"You couldn't have."
"B-but I could've tried."
Raph sighed. He couldn't believe he was going to say this. "Why don't ya sleep with me tonight?"
Leo raised his head. "Really?"
"Yeah. Really." He said as they entered the bedroom.
Leo stopped next to Raph's bed. "Get in." He said, good naturedly. He did so, unable to stop the trembling in his limbs. He curled up on his side, and Leo covered him with the sheet. The sun shone brightly through the windows, so he pulled the curtains. Leo trotted over and climbed into the bed with him. They hadn't slept together since they were little. Or when one of them had nightmares, but that wasn't often. And usually it was Mikey.
Raph lay in the bed until sleep came to claim him…
A/N: Is anyone even reading these? I haven't gotten any reviews and I think if I don't get any I might discontinue this story… even though I really love it :(
