Mikayla Maciel and her bio-mech enhancement Charlie, together known as Bio-Mech Kayla, appeared in a flash of blue light. Kayla looked around. She seemed to be in the middle of the parking lot for a small restaurant. There were a few scattered tables with folded umbrellas sticking out, a small white-pink-and-green building with a single window where people were ordering drinks, and at the edge of the lot, a tall sign with a picture of a humanoid smoothie holding a smaller smoothie on top. The restaurant, which seemed to be a smoothie shop, was next to a busy street in a bustling city. In the distance, she could see a river with a bridge not entirely unlike the Golden Gate from her world, leading into what looked like a desert landscape.
"Nothing weird so far..." Kayla muttered to herself.
Charlie spoke up (in Kayla's head, to not draw attention) talking fast as usual "Except for the fact that nobody here seems weirded out by the fact that a girl with a mechanical arm appeared out of nowhere in a flash of blue light which in most dimensions I think wouldn't be a normal thing but I don't know this dimension so that might just be a normal thing here I wonder who else appears out of nowhere in flashes of hey what's that thing?"
Kayla turned her head to see a strange humanoid whale walking up towards the smoothie window. But still, nobody reacted. The person in the window asked the whale man what he would like, as if he was a normal person. Looking around, Kayla could actually see several different non-human creatures, but nobody batted an eye.
"Huh. Guess these weird creatures are just a normal thing he-"
She was interrupted by a crash from a nearby store. A 12 ft tall tan colored female humanoid dinosaur with massive arms, small legs, and a leopard print caveman tunic came out of the building holding bags of -what Kayla presumed to be- cash. Civilians, human and creature alike, started running, but didn't seem particularly afraid to Kayla and Charlie, as if this was an everyday occurrence that they knew would be resolved.
"What is that thing some kind of weird cave woman dino lady and why is she robbing a bank what does a dinosaur want with cash and why does nobody seem bothered and should we step in to help?"
"Calm down Charlie, we've taken on a bio-mech dragon before, we can handle one dino lady."
Kayla ran out into the street and called out "Hey!" The dino lady turned her head and stared, confused. Kayla raised Charlie on her arm, who turned into a plasma cannon that she aimed at the dino woman, who took a defensive stance. But before Kayla could fire, there was a green light behind the dino, and a voice that said"Really Suemungousaur? Bank robbing? This is just petty."
The dino lady, apparently named Suemungousaur, turned around, giving Bio-mech Kayla a view of who had spoken.
He looked to be about in his twenties or thirties, average height with a lean build, rustled brown hair, and green eyes. He was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, green and white sneakers, and a green biker jacket with black stripes around the cuffs and a white vertical stripe on the right side interrupted by a white number 10 over the pec area. He stood in front of a closing green portal (the source of the light) with his arms crossed and a smug expression on his face. Under the sleeve of his right arm, Kayla could just see glowing green runes encircling his forearm.
Suemongousaur seemed to instantly forget Kayla and Charlie, turning to roar at the new figure, who seemed unimpressed. He pulled back his sleeve and began tapping and twirling the green runes, which created a sort of hologram above his wrist that shifted between different figures. It stopped at what seemed like the one he wanted, and he slammed his left hand down on it.
In a flash of light, the man disappeared and was replaced with a 6 ft tall green figure who looked to be made of squishy plant material. He had a head made of yellow and red plant material in a flame-like coloring, narrow red and yellow petals/thorns sprouting from his shoulders and arms, forearms that split oped to reveal yellow hands with holes on his palms. His feet ended in what loked like a tangle of roots holding black toeless feet. A circular hourglass rune glowed green in the middle of his chest.
"SWAMPFIRE!" he called out, sticking his hands forward and shooting bright orange flames from his palms right at Suemungousaur, who dropped one bag and held up a hand to block the flame. It struck, but didn't seem to do any severe harm, though she did howl in pain.
That roar shook Kayla from the shock of seeing a human turn into a flaming plant. She fired the shot, hitting Suemungousaur behind her shoulder. Once again, it didn't leave any mark or burn, but it did get her attention. She turned back to snarl at Kayla, then turned back to the plant man, then back to Kayla. She couldn't seem to make up her mind on who to attack first.
The plant man, who Kayla guessed was named Swampfire, called to Kayla "I'll hold her, you stun her with an electric shock. A couple kilowatts should do it!"
Kayla didn't know how Swampfire knew Charlie could shoot electricity, or why he wasn't confused by her being there, but he seemed to know what he was doing, so she nodded.
Swampfire speaking seemed to make Suemungousaur's mind up, and she roared, charging at him. He simply stuck one fist into the ground, causing a rumble in the road followed by vines shooting up from the asphalt and wrap around Suemungousaur's limbs, stopping hr in her tracks. She tugged at the vines angrily, and while a couple frayed and snapped, Swampfire simply narowed his eyes, and the remaining vines thickened, holding Suemungousaur tighter.
"Charlie, shock cables please," Charlie morphed from a plasma cannon to a cable launcher that fired two cables toward the struggling dino women, lodging into the skin of her back. Two kilowatts of electricity traveled up the cables and electrocuted her, causing her to howl in pain, then she fell to the ground, steaming and unconscious.
The vines unwrapped themselves from the fallen criminal and pulled back into the road- and supposedly back into Swampfire's arm, since he also stood back up and walked over to Kayla and Charlie.
"Thanks for the help," he said, tapping the hourglass rune on his chest and, in another green flash, he turned back into a human just as he reached them. "The name's Ben. Ben Tennyson. But most people call me Ben 10. What's your name?"
"MiKayla Maciel. And this is Charlie." She said, holding up her arm. "And together, we're Bio-Mech Kayla." She said proudly.
"Nice to meet you both. What brings you to dimension O-014?"
Kayla was taken aback, but before she could respond, Charlie spoke up, saying "How did you know that we're from another dimension is that a normal thing here do a lot of people from other dimensions come here a lot also how did you turn into a fire shooting plant man and how did you shoot that fire aren't plants really flammable also-"
"Whoa whoa whoa, slow down bud, one thing at a time," He didn't seem perturbed by Charlie being able to talk, or my Kayla introducing her mechanical arm like a person. "Firstly, I knew you were from another dimension because I'm the Overseer of this universe. You guys know what an Overseer is, right?"
"Kinda. We've met a couple people who called themselves Overseers, they weren't very friendly, but we don't really know what being an Overseer means. Is it like, some kinda god or something?"
Ben laughed. "Hardly. Overseers are beings who are given certain abilities meant to help them protect their universe. Though most are pretty selfish controlling, so I imagine they wouldn't be too happy about a couple strangers popping into their worlds," he said, still chuckling.
Kayla chuckled back. "Yeah. We kinda got that vibe."
Ben continued "One of my abilities as an overseer is being able to sense when someone teleports into my universe. And they always show up here," he gestured to the smoothie restaurant, "at Mr. Smoothies, the Nexus point of this dimention.
"As for you other question," he held up his right arm and pulled back his sleeve to reveal the glowing runes- which Kayla now realized where similar to the ones they saw on the other overseers, just not multicolored, "that's another part of my overseer powers.
"Before I became an overseer, about 4 years ago, I had a device called the Omnitrix that could turn me into different superpowered aliens"
Charlie interrupted "Aliens? Is that what that whale thing and all the other weird creatures we saw are their aliens and is that why nobody bated an eye when me and Kayla showed up in a flash of light?"
"Exactly." Ben replied, "People 'round here have been used to having aliens around for years now. Anyway, when I got my overseer abilities, the Omnitrix was accidentally absorbed into the Overseer energy, giving me the functions of the Omnitrix through my overseer runes.
"It's actually a lot more convenient now. Now I always get the alien I want, I don't have to worry about timeout or recharge, and I even have new functions like fusing my aliens together or partially transforming other people into my aliens."
"That's pretty insane, but, how did you... become an overseer?"
"I'll tell you later," Ben said waving his hand, "but for now, how 'bout we circle back to my original question: What brings you here?"
"Oh! Right, of course. Me and Charlie are traveling the Multiverse looking for rouge bio-mechs that are causing trouble."
Charlie chimed in "You wouldn't have happened to have seen any beings with mechanical enhancements that look kinda like me but not exactly like me because all bio-mechs look slightly different or maybe just some wandering chunks of writhing tech which os what bio-mechs look like when we're not attatched to a host."
"Now that you bring it up," Ben said, rubbing his chin, "I have been getting problems from this one guy named Siphon. He recently got a shapeshifting mechanical arm that does seem a lot like Charlie."
"Is that how you knew Charlie could electrify that dino lady?"
"Yup. Figured you were the same species or something. Usually Siphon is a pretty minor threat, but his new bio-mech thingy is versatile enough that it's even giving me some trouble. If you guys have some special way to take down these bio-mechs, that would be a huge help."
"We'd be happy to help. The only problem is finding this Siphon guy."
"No problem. I got some friends who could help with that. But first..." he said, turning his head back to the little restaurant, "how about a smoothie?"
