Chapter 16
Radio Killed the Video Star Pt. 3
~With the Vee's~
The Vee's had gathered in Vox's office for an emergency meeting to discuss the matter with Alastor. Kitty, the robot Fizz, was passing drinks to each of them as Vox spoke.
"We have a problem. Alastor's getting close to the Princess Morningstar's, so, our main concern now is ensuring no deal is ever struck between Lucifer's (slams a fist on the table) BRATS and that smiling freak!"
"Well how exactly are we supposed to stop it?" Velvette was on her phone.
"Put something inside them. That's how I get the bitches to behave." Valentino was busy putting gemstones on his revolver.
Vox rubbed his chin, "Maybe someone on the inside isn't such a bad idea. Do you think Angel would?"
"That lanky prick won't even return my calls."
"We need someone little miss bleeding heart would take in." Vox stood up and walked to his right.
"Someone... pathetic, desperate, with no direct ties to us?" Velvette threw out.
"I employ every down on their luck loser this side of Hell. Who the fuck is left?" Valentino questioned.
Vox approached the glass tank. Watching as two sharks swam around. "I think... I have JUST the one." He turns around with a sinister grin on his face. His left eye glowing as were the shark's eyes behind him.
~Hazbin Hotel/Gwen's POV~
Seated on the living room couch, I was engrossed in sketching in my notebook. The ink demons summoned by Alastor were completing their task of repairing the wall previously damaged by the snake individual. As they finished their work, Charlie and Vaggie made their entrance, with Charlie appearing weary as she collapsed beside me. Angel, who was sitting in the chair besides the sofa spoke.
"So, how did it go out there?
Vaggie gave a defeated sigh, "Not a single new recruit."
"Yeah well, who would wanna use their last days not fucking and fighting?" Angel pointed out before returning to his phone.
I looked from Angel to Charlie. I could see the disappointment written over her face. Clearly, she was hoping to gain some new recruits for the hotel. Sadly, she was met with a door slamming in her face. Unfortunately, I had a feeling this was going to happen, but part of me wanted to be wrong about that feeling. No one said recruiting people to be redeemed would be easy, but with the next extermination just a couple months away, there should be more people seeking shelter and safety. The hotel was just the place for that. Even if no one was looking for redemption. Suddenly, there was a knock on the front door.
"I've got it." Vaggie goes up to the door.
For some reason, I put my sketch book down and followed her. Don't know why I followed, or why I was interested in seeing who was behind the door. Call it a gut feeling. As Vaggie swung the door open, we were met with a startling sight. Sir Pentious stood just outside, hat in hand.
"Why hello my dear-"
He never got to finish speaking because Vaggie punched him in the face. The minute Pentious' back hits the ground, Vaggie gets on top of him with her spear out. Aimed perfectly at his neck. I could see Pentious cower in fear, and for some reason, made a peace sign gesture.
"Wait, wait, wait! I come in peace!"
Okay, this is a surprise. Did he literally just say he came in peace?
"What are you doing here?" Questioned Vaggie, her spear still on his throat.
"I didn't come looking for a fight." Sir Pentious claimed. "I uhh... I heard that you're helping people, people who want to be better."
Disregard my previous statement. This is indeed more surprising. I stare in disbelief at Sir Pentinous. He wasn't making any sense. Just a couple hours ago, he was in a blimp that fired a laser or missel or something at the hotel. Threatening to destroy Alastor unless they did battle. Now, he does a one eighty asking to be helped. Something about this doesn't seem right. There's got to be more to this. Of course, Charlie wouldn't know. The minute the guy mentions "help" she's over the moon.
"(gasps) You heard right! Welcome to our home of healing, or resort of restoration, out-"
Angel appeared and cut Charlie off. Thank you, Angel. "Are you fucking nuts? This chump was trying to kill us like literally six hours ago! And now, you wanna bring him in here to live with us?"
"He's got a point Charlie." I chimmed in. "Should we really be little this guy into the hotel?"
"Guys, this is a place for second chances, and who deserves one more than this slithery... um, slippery... special man!"
"Aren't you supposed to protect this place?" I heard Angel ask Vaggie.
I watched Vaggie about to say something when Charlie suddenly gave her the old puppy dog eyes. I shake my head knowing Charlie's going to win.
"(sighs) I guess he's not much of a threat without the war machine, or even with the war machine."
I noticed from the corner of my eye how when Vaggie spoke, Sir Pentious' mood changed from cheerful to depressed.
Charlie squealed in delight, giving Vaggie a hug with a twirl in it. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" She set Vaggie down before turning to Sir Pentious. "Sir Pentious! Welcome, to the Hazbin Hotel!" She proceeds to leading the snake inside.
"Oh no, darling, thank you! You won't regret this."
Okay, the way he said that sounded suspicious. I know Charlie's got a good heart and wants to give sinners a second chance, but this snake has trouble written all over him. He's up to something, and I'm going to find out and expose him.
"Eh, I give him a week, tops." Angel said as he followed behind me.
"I'd give him until the end of the day at best." I told him. Watching as Charlie showed Sir Pentious the bar where Husk was cleaning the counter.
"This is our bar and bartender, Husk. This is the curtain and the new wall after you broke the last one, heh, and oh! Oh! This is the-" Charlie's getting a tad too rambunctious.
Vaggie grabbed Charlie to calm her down. "Babe, you don't have to show him every detail."
"Yeah Charlie, go easy." I chimed in.
"Sorry, sorry, I'm just so excited to have our first real guest!" Charlie cheered.
"Uh, what the hell am I then?" Asked Angel.
"Well, you're an important part of our family here Angel, but you uhm, uh..." Charlie's voice wandered off. She was trying to find the right words when Vaggie chimed in.
"Constantly makes us look bad, sexually harass the staff, and have never literally never once tried to improve."
That may have been a little harsh to say.
"What she means is, it's just nice to have someone interested in our cause, for once." Charlie jumped in. Then she turned back to Sir Pentious and continued showing him around.
Looking over at Angel, I noticed he looked slightly upset over what Vaggie told him. I know Angel can be nauseating at times, but deep down I'm positive he wants to change for the better. He just needs time to work out his current situations or whatever's going on in his life. Turning my head, I caught Charlie over by Nifty who was playing with KeeKee.
"Over here we have our maid Nifty."
Nifty looked up, stopped playing with KeeKee, and gasped. "The bad boy's back!" He jumps onto Sir Pentious, standing on his chest as she grips his collar. Looking his straight in the eye with a sadistic smile. "Never leave me again."
Maybe I should give a second thought to who the real creeper around the hotel is.
"We're about eighty percent sure she's harmless." Charlie says as she carefully removes Nifty from Sir Pentious. "And over here we have- Oh! (bumps into Alastor) Uh, Alastor! He's our gracious facility manager! You've met our newest guest Sir Pentious... hehe..."
"Ah yes! You're the one who ruined my coat!"
I watched as Alastor's demeaner changed. His eyes began to glow dark red. Standing still in wait. Waiting for the moment when he'd go in for the kill. I moved closer to watch the show.
"I definitely remember you now."
The terror etched on Sir Pentious' face was unmistakable. A dark smirk spread across my own. It seemed this snake was on the brink of receiving his comeuppance, yet again. I braced myself to witness Alastor launch Sir Pentious skyward, but Charlie intervened, stepping between them at the last moment.
"Well... I guess this is a great time for your first lesson! (Clears throat) "How to apologize!" The first step to becoming a better person is to admit when you're wrong. Why don't you give it a try?" She takes a step back to allow Sir Pentious to speak.
"Yes... uhm... Mr. uhm... Radio Demon, sir, please forgive me for attack you and ruining your very lovely coat... uhm... here."
From his coat pocket, Sir Pentious removed the torn fabric of Alastor's coat. Holding it out for Alastor to take, which he did. I watched in wait as Alastor examined the torn fabric. Wondering if he'd still attack Sir Pentious after seeing a piece of a reminder of what happened earlier. To my surprise, Alastor laughed.
"Ah-ho! Not many people have been able to take even this much off me. It must have meant quiet a lot to you." In the blink of an eye, Alastor burned the fabric in his hand with a flash of green fire. Leaving, Sir Pentious, Charlie, and myself stunned. Got to be honest, I didn't know he could do that.
Shortly thereafter, everyone gathered in the living room. Charlie suggested a game as a way to welcome Sir Pentious to the hotel.
"Okay, now that we have a new resident, I think it's important we all get to know each other! So, we're going to play a little game. Everyone, follow me. My name is Charlie. *Claps twice* I like to sing! *Claps twice* And when we get to know each other it's the greatest thing! *Claps twice*"
"My name's Sir Pentious. *Claps twice* I like to build. *Claps twice* And despite my stupid Egg Bois, I think I'm very skilled! *Claps twice*"
If I had to choose between being bored to death by one of my tutors or doing this silly game, I'd pick the tutor. Even Angel didn't want any part in the game. He was scrolling through his phone.
"This is stupid." He spoke.
"This is not stupid! *Claps twice* It's just a game! *Claps twice* Sir Pentious did well so please try to do the same! *Claps twice*"
"I'm too sober for this."
"And I'm not a little kid."
"Well, get used to it and learn how to play, this is gonna be your whole day! *Claps Twice*" Vaggie spoke directly at Angel. Never minding what I said because that's the kind of person I am while Angel is a different case.
Charlie chose to proceed with a different game, one that required more activity. She decided on a role-playing game, an original concept of her own creation. Angel was dressed in a long trench coat and a hat with a script in hand. Sir Pentious wore a sailor suit. Licking a large lollipop to get into character.
"Oh, I'm a bad man on the streets who never got enough hugs. Now, where's an innocent kid I can sell crack to? Wow, who wrote this?" Angel held the script up looking at Charlie.
"It's great right? Keep going!" Charlie had a huge smile on her face.
I rolled my eyes and slumped further into the sofa. Enduring the game was bad enough; now, I have to sit through this dismal show. Honestly, I think Angel was secretly suffering more then I was. He gave a sigh and returned to the script.
"Hey you."
"Who, me?" Sir Pentious spoke.
"Yeah, you look like a kid who could use some... devil's dandruff? Oh, for fuck's sake."
I gave Charlie a look to which she gave a small shrug and smile. Guess she couldn't think of any creative drug names for the role-play.
"Not me! I have to go home and study!"
"Come on kid, it'll make you cool like me... the crackhead."
"The only cool thing here is to say no to drugs! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to not have sexual intercourse before marriage!"
What the fuck?
"Yes! Bravo!" Charlie stood up, clapping for Sir Pentious. "Wow Pentious! At this rate, you'll be redeemed in no time."
"I... I'm going to bed." Angel left the room looking awful and gloomy.
I observed him departing, my heart sinking with his every step. It was likely the first instance I witnessed Angel distressed. Ordinarily, he's the epitome of cheer and flirtatious banter, but since Sir Pentious's arrival, a shadow of gloom has befallen Angel. It's understandable, though; no one could fault him, especially not after the day's occurrences and the focus shifted to Pentious. I don't hold Charlie responsible, yet it's evident she's oblivious to the pain she's inflicted on Angel's emotions. Looking over, Charlie kept praising Sir Pentious who took it all in with pride.
Okay, something fishy is definitely going on. First this creep attacks the hotel, then he comes back wanting to be redeemed, and he's acting like a goody two-shoes. There is something clearly going on here, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it.
~Normal POV~
Angel walked into his room and carelessly threw his coat over Fat Nuggets, who was napping on the bed. The pet grunted, wriggled out from under the coat, and watched as Angel flopped down to scroll through his phone. Discovering new voice messages from Valentino, Angel let out a deep sigh and started to listen to them, a mix of sweet nothings and others filled with a demonic fury.
"Angel baby, come home! It's not the same without you here, I miss you! Come back-"
"ANGEL, YOU BITCH! IF YOU DON'T COME HOME, YOU'LL BE FUCKING GREASY TRUCKERS FOR THE NEXT YEAR-"
Hey, Amorita, I didn't mean to yell, but you know how crazy you make me-"
"YOU ARE A FUCKING SLUT!"
"Hey, Angie! About earlier-"
"-KILL YOUR WHOLE FUCKIN' FAMILY!"
"Work's really stressful!"
"-LITTLE COCKSUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!"
"(dead serious) You actually think you can change? Addit trash like you doesn't change. I'll see you soon, baby."
With the last of the messages played, Angel turned his body, so his face was looking at the ceiling. A cloud of pink smoke swirled around in the air. Angel was beginning to second guess himself. Maybe coming to this hotel wasn't such a good idea. He lets out a heavy sigh as Fat Nugget comes over.
"Sorry, not now Nugg's." Angel gets up and leaves his room. Fat Nuggets watches his owner with a worried expression on his face.
~Gwen's POV~
I had come downstairs to get a glass of juice when I saw Angel hanging at the bar looking depressed. So depressed that his head was laying on the counter and his glass of liquor was still full. Worried, I walked up to the bar. Taking a seat next to Angel.
"Hey Angel, are you okay?" Dumb question to ask, but it was the first thing that came to mind. "Do you want to talk?" I wasn't going to force him to do anything he didn't want, but I did want to try and help him.
"Kid, there's not enough booze or words that could cheer me up." Angel sighed as he looked at his glass.
Okay, this is definitely serious. Got to figure out how to cheer up Angel before he's depressed for good and does something he could regret.
"Look, Angel, you don't have to say anything, just hear me out," I started. "It's completely understandable that you're upset. Charlie might have gone too far with that silly snake, but I believe she didn't mean to hurt your feelings. She probably just got excited about having a new guest."
"Do you think I'm just a screw up Gwen?" Angel's head was now facing me. He still looked depressed, but he was talking to me.
"So, what if you are? That's what makes you, you and you know what, that's what I like about you." I wasn't going to sugar coat anything I said to him, but I was going to be nice while being honest. "Angel, you may be a sex addict screwball, but that's what makes you, you. It doesn't matter if people have a problem with you. What matters is that you're comfortable being you." "And you're just as important as anyone else here. And you can bet that Charlie's going to make sure to redeem you."
Hopefully, my words got through to him. It probably wasn't the best speech I gave, but it was the truth.
"You really think so?" Angel's expression perked up a little. He even lifted his head up.
"Yeah, you're my friends Angel, and I care about you. The last thing I want is to see somebody I care about hurting on the inside."
Those few words were enough for Angel to embrace me and whisper thanks in my ear. Not what I was expecting to happen, but I guess I could let it slide this one time; unfortunately, our hug was cut short by the sound of a slippery snake.
"Hey, where's he going?" Angel asked, pulling away from me.
"Only one way to find out." I jump off my seat and motion for Angel to follow me.
Maintaining our distance, we trailed Sir Pentious to an open door. I instantly knew it was the entrance to Charlie's office.
"What's he doing in Charlie's office?" Asked Angel.
"Something not good." I replied as we came closer to the door.
Peeking our heads inside, we saw that no good snake setting up a small camera up in the bookshelf. Immediately, Angel realized what was going on and slams the door open.
"You slippery little shit!"
Sir Pentious emitted a scream, clearly not anticipating being caught red-handed in the act.
"You're working for the Vees?!" Angel cried out.
"I knew there was something odd about you. Playing the part of a sweet sinner looking for redemption." I chimed in. "Nobody plays my sister like that, nobody!"
"I don't know what either of you are talking about! Whore bug and child!"
Sir Pentious leaps forward, ready to tackle me to the ground, but Angel pushed me away and got tackled instead. The two began to wrestle like hungry animals.
"Get your aggressively average body... OFF OF ME!"
Sir Pentious's eyes spiraled hypnotic powers at Angel.
"Get off of him!" I grab Pentious from behind while Angel shakes his head to wake up from the trance.
Sir Pentious tried to shake me off, but I kept a strong grip on him. Keeping my arms locked around his neck.
"Let go of me you little pest!"
"Oh no you don't!" Angel held Sir Pentious' arms with two of his own arms while the other two were wrapped around his neck.
"What is going on in here?"
From the doorway came Charlie and Vaggie, in their pajama's. All that shouting and scuffling must have woken them up.
"This little bitch is a traitor!" Angel motioned to Pentious.
"He's been playing you for a sap Charlie." I spoke.
"Preposterous!" Sir Pentious spoke, managing to break free of Angel's and mine hold as he slithered over to the girls. "I would never betray you. You... are my best friends!" He gave them both a hug.
"Uh huh, then explain this!" Angel lifted one of the books from the shelf to reveal a camera. This came as a shock to Charlie, but Vaggie on the other hand looked ready to kill Pentious herself.
"He's been lying to you from the start Charlie. He just wanted to get inside by order of the Vee's." I told her.
With his cover blown, Sir Pentious scurried into a corner and revealed a wristwatch. "Ah! Ah! Abort! Abort! S.O.S! Mayday! Agent Pentious in need of immediate evacuation!"
I moved a little closer to see Vox appear on the screen.
"Pentious? Wait, you were caught?! It hasn't even been a day!"
"Please! You've got to get me out of here!"
"I can't believe we thought you could handle even something this simple. Do us a favor, if they don't kill you, go ahead and do it yourself! You're a miserable failure!" With that, Vox vanished from the screen.
Wow, I understand that Pentious was feigning kindness to win over my sister's trust, but Vox's comment seemed quite harsh. Looking at him now, crying like a frightened child in the corner gave me this strange guilt feeling in my stomach.
"(srying) I... I... just make it quick, I guess. Not that... I deserve it." He laid himself on the ground as Vaggie readied her spear.
"Gladly."
Before Vaggie could make the final blow that would put him out of his misery, Charlie jumps in front of her.
"Wait!" She then turned her attention to Pentious. "Pentious?"
(Charlie will be Italic, Sir Pentious will be Bold, and Vaggie and Angel will be both.)
[CHARLIE]
It starts with "sorry"
That's your foot in the door
One simple "sorry"
Spoken straight from your core
The path to forgiveness is a twisting trail of hearts
But "sorry" is where it starts
[SIR PENTIOUS]
Who could forgive a dirtbag like me?
I don't deserve your amnesty
[ANGEL DUST & VAGGIE]
Can't we just kill him?
Shoot him and spill his blood?
[CHARLIE, spoken]
That's an option you could choose
[ANGEL DUST & VAGGIE]
Works for us!
[CHARLIE]
But who hasn't been in his shoes?
It starts with "sorry"
[SIR PENTIOUS]
Sorry
[CHARLIE]
Dig down deeper and say one sincere "sorry"
[SIR PENTIOUS]
I'm so sorry!
CHARLIE & SIR PENTIOUS]
And your journey's underway
It'll take time to cover your vast multitude of sins (It'll take time to cover my vast multitude of sins)
But "sorry" is where it begins
It starts with "sorry"
I sighed and shook my head. Despite recent events, Charlie is still prepared to allow Sir Pentious to remain with us. Although part of me wants to retaliate against that traitor until he's incapacitated, I've decided to respect Charlie's judgment. This doesn't mean I'll stop watching Pentious closely, but I do trust my sister's decision.
"I hated that song! why are you so lame?!"
A fresh voice captured everyone's attention. Nifty entered the room, her expression one of annoyance and disappointment. It seemed she had expected more from Pentious's bad boy persona. Approaching Pentious, she delivered a sharp kick to his stomach and stormed out, muttering about his failure to meet her expectations of a bad boy.
"(Happily, sighs) Good first day! Let's get some rest!" Charlie says heading out the door with Vaggie and Angel and Sir Pentious, who was holding his stomach in pain.
I was on the verge of following them out when the wristwatch on the floor caught my attention. I walked over, picked it up, and was just about to discard it when Alastor materialized before me. He extended his hand, clearly expecting me to hand over the watch. Unsure of his reasons for wanting it, I nonetheless handed it to him. Coming around to stand next to him as he contacted Vox.
"WHAT?!" Vox screamed before his expression changed to a terrified look.
"You'll have to try harder than that next time ol' pal!"
With a maniacal laugh, Alastor crushed the watch with his bare hand before disappearing into the darkness. The last sound I head was Vox's raging screams before silence.
DONE!
Phew, this one was a doozy, but it's finished!
