The Mystic Ruins, a land full of ancient wonder, located far from the city of Station Square. Long ago, it had been the homeland of the Echidnas, where the land mass currently known as Angel Island had originated from. Now, it was a site of many an archeological mystery, and the workshop of one twin-tailed fox known as Miles Tails Prower.

In the weeks since Eggman's recent defeat, the young sidekick genius was revisiting his Mystic Ruins lab, eager to get a well-deserved break from adventuring with Sonic and fighting perilous battles.

A warm, windy breeze rolled through the growing fields of green grass, ruffling the leaves of the trees that lined the hidden runway which Tails used when flying the Tornado now and then. Mystic Runs was quiet, save for the occasional chirping of the birds within the region.

The intrepid fox sidekick walked through the lush and dusty fields within Mystic Ruins, taking in the fresh air, while his very namesakes wavered about in circles.

Young Tails thought about his many visits to the region in the time after Perfect Chaos' attack on Station Square. He'd revisited the nearby lab after Infinite's attack for a brief period, gathering his thoughts, and wondering how to deal with Sonic's absence. Those times had been rough, but it was a relief the war ended favorably for the Resistance.

During Eggman's takeover, robots had ravaged the ruins with the workshop being damaged at one point in the middle of an Egg Pawn attack, which wasn't that hard to fix after Tails repelled the robots.

Tails often glanced around the environment, keeping his eye out for secrets that he and the others had yet to even discover. Perhaps Sonic and the others had seen everything, perhaps there was nothing left to find, so what else was there to ever be found?

In moments like this, answers tended to crop up, even when least expected.

Deep in his thoughts, Tails felt his foot hit something, and he stopped in mid-walk. He backed up slowly, and looked down, seeing a black top hat with a gold-yellow lining around the rim. A glowing blue aura encompassed it, and Tails' eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Magic was remarkable to see, and Tails found himself in a state of curiosity that had followed him for years, just as it had with Sonic and the others. He looked upon the hat, transfixed, and reached down to pick up the newfound artifact. His gloved thumbs grasped the tip of the hat's rim, and the fox picked it up, looking closely at the magical hat of mystery.

Wherever it was from, Tails could tell his discovery had no connection to the Chaos Emeralds, and it didn't even emit any form of Chaos energy anyway. That wasn't Chaos energy, it was something else.

'Put it on. Put it on.' A voice in Tails' conscious said.

"Should I try the hat on?" Tails questioned aloud, 'And is the hat talking or was that my mind talking?'

He studied the hat a little closer. Perhaps putting it on was a good idea for the moment, especially when curiosity couldn't be ignored during some occasions. Tails shrugged, and lifted the magical hat, slowly putting it on his head between his two large ears. In a short instant, he felt a wand appear in the palm of his hand.

'No way.' Tails thought.

Whatever this hat was capable of, it could clearly allow one to use a magic wand, and enable the wearer to use some type of magical power. Tails twirled the wand, and a box with a gold ring symbol appeared.

A mesmerized Tails looked at the wand as it glowed brightly, wondering what he could do next. He tapped the magical tool against the brim of the hat, and a rabbit hopped down out of thin air. Tails thrust the wand outward, summoning a floating wrench into existence, which left the fox almost speechless.

This magic hat, and this wand that came with it, perhaps he could use it more often to make certain issues go away. Eggman wouldn't have a chance if Tails used the power of magic against his creations, not to mention all of the machinery that could be fixed.

'Imagine all we can do.' A voice said in Tails' mind, 'You are the king of magic now. With this magic, we can take the world by storm. I can give you everything you wish for, and we can rid the world of all evil. Let magic rule the universe, you are the master of magic just as you will do as the magic commands.'

'WHOA!' Tails quickly pulled off the hat before that voice could offer him anything else, and the magical wand vanished as well. This hat wasn't friendly as he thought it would be, it was a corrupter!

"No way I'm wearing this hat any longer." Tails spun his namesakes, flew to the edge of a cliff, and threw the magical hat into the water below.

He watched as the hat vanished at the bottom, and it floated away with the tides, right before the glow vanished. Tails wiped the sweat off of his forehead, and shuddered at the thought of being controlled by something sinister in that mysterious magical piece of headwear from... wherever it originated from.

Forget about magic, it was easy to fly planes, and use machinery that wasn't made from Eggman tech. Tails was happy as he was, a boy genius with two tails that he often used to fly, and there was no magic needed.

Tails flew back to his workshop, deciding he needed some rest for a while, hoping to get the creepy magic hat voice out of his head for a good long while...

The End
