Chapter Two
Sorry for the long wait on an update for this story.
"They're first-degree burns, Mer. I promise." Andy brought the O2 mask back up to Meredith's face, concerned that she was starting to see that Meredith was short of breath. "Mer, slow breath's okay?" Meredith nodded and leaned back, and Andy looked over her. Meredith's skin was starting to get pale, and she was still coughing. "Mer, how's your chest? Is it hurting?" Andy watched Meredith nod her head. "Shit. Maya, drive faster please." Andy begged. Vic helped Andy connect the heart monitor to Meredith and when she saw her irregular heartbeat, her worry grew.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Please be okay. Please be okay. She needs to be okay.
When they got to the hospital, Andy jumped out and helped Vic to lower the gurney. When she turned around, she saw Teddy and some residents she hadn't met. Vic and Andy let them take over and watched helplessly as the kids and Meredith were wheeled off.
Andy watched on helplessly. She felt her eyes welling up with tears at seeing Meredith like this. She felt a hand on her back and turned around to see Vic, a worried expression on her face.
"Hey, I know you want to stay with her but come with me to the waiting room. You should get some rest," Vic said gently. She was pleasantly surprised when Andy nodded, but she was also concerned at how Andy wasn't fighting her.
Vic and Andy went to the waiting room where the rest of 19 were and they sat down. Andy leaned back in the chair and closed her eyes before leaning over and resting her head in her hands. Vic looked at her, empathy clear in her eyes, and gently rubbed Andy's back while Andy tried to keep her breathing under control.
A couple of hours later, Miranda Bailey walked into the room with a tired expression on her face. She looked at Amelia and Maggie and they stood up. Andy tried to stand up, but she was unable to move. Amelia looked over at her and was going to get her when Maggie rested a hand on her arm. Andy saw the movement, snapped out of her shock, and rushed over to the three women.
Miranda looked at Andy with pity in her eyes.
"How are the kids? Are the kids alright?" Andy asked, concern overflowing for her girlfriend's children.
"They're okay. We have them on some oxygen just to be sure that they're okay, but they should be okay in a couple of hours. Since Bailey got out before inhaling too much smoke, he's in the room with Ellis and Zola hanging out," Miranda tried to reassure them.
Maggie and Amelia nodded while Andy was biting her lip, nervous to hear the news about Meredith.
"What about Meredith?" Andy heard herself asking.
Miranda swallowed the lump in her throat before answering. "She, obviously, inhaled a lot of smoke and her vitals were extremely low, so we treated all that, and when her stats were still low, we decided to place her in a medically induced coma to give her time to heal," Miranda finished, and Andy let a tear fall down her cheek. Meredith and her kids have been through so much and she hated that this was happening.
Miranda said something to Amelia and Maggie, Andy not being able to hear anything right now. Andy was so shocked that she was unable to say anything or even move.
Andy saw Miranda walk away and she turned to Amelia and Maggie, a questioning look on her face.
Amelia walked away, updating the rest of Andy's team quickly before walking away. Andy assumed she was going to go update the kids while Maggie stayed back.
"Andy, do you want to go and see her?" Maggie asked, resting a hand on Andy's arm. Andy wiped the tear that fell and nodded her head.
Andy followed Maggie down the hall to where Meredith's room was and exhaled when she saw the state she was in. Meredith had an oxygen mask on her face, her left arm was wrapped with gauze and Andy sighed. She wished she had gotten to Meredith sooner and saved her from suffering from smoke inhalation and second-degree burns.
Andy pulled up the chair that was in the room to the bed and gently held Meredith's hand in hers.
"Please be okay, Meredith. You need to be okay. Not just for me but for your kids too. Zola, Ellis, and Bailey need their mother. You cannot leave them," Andy said, voice breaking with a tear falling down her face. "Please don't leave me so soon after we finally started dating," Andy tried to hold back a sob. "I need you, Meredith Grey. So many people need you."
Andy wanted to pull Meredith into a hug. She wanted to see her beautiful eyes, but she knew it didn't work like that.
"Until you wake up, I promise I'll be there for your kids. I promise they won't be alone, Mer," Andy leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on Meredith's forehead. "I love you so much, Meredith. Please come back to me."
Guys, I know I'm updating some stories but please don't expect too much out of me. I'm going to be getting a lot busier but hopefully my friend will continue to help me out with some of my stories.
