Episode 14: All Things Bright and Beautifly!
Mew and the group are walking down a path that has trees and rose bushes surrounding the area. Soon, they see a large building up ahead.
Max calls out, "Hey. I guess that's Rustboro Hall."
"Which means we must already be in Rustboro City," Mew says.
Tomo turns to Mew, "Are you ready for your battle?"
"I'm ready alright, but we're still over a day's walk from the gym," Mew says.
"Oh," Tomo replies.
As the group walk, they see a trainer brushing his Persian, another trainer using a water hose to give her Flaaffy a bath, another trainer practicing an attack with his Slugma.
"Look at the trainers and their Pokemon," Jen says.
"Wonder what they're doing?" Molly asks.
Then Max points out, "Check it out!"
Everyone looks ahead.
"Hey," Brock says.
"I bet you they're all preparing for that Pokémon Contest," Max says.
"A Pokémon Contest?" May responds.
"Cool," Mew says.
Suddenly, a Beautifly lands on May's face, frightening her to the point of falling over while everyone else looks on, shocked.
"Oh no," Jen cries out.
"May!" Mew cries out.
May panics and cries out, "Get off me!"
The Beautifly gets off of May's face.
"It's a Beautifly," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Beautifly, the Butterfly Pokémon. A Bug and Flying Type. Beautifly have long, thin noses which can extend to suck the pollen out of flowers.
The Beautifly lands on May's head.
May cries out, "Get off!"
"Looks like you got a new friend," Mew says.
But May continues to try shaking it off, "It's not funny!"
Suddenly, someone calls out, "I'm so sorry!"
Everyone looks and sees two trainers.
One of them is a girl wearing a long sleeve yellow shirt, a pink skirt, and a necklace. She has fair skin, brown hair, and greenish blue eyes.
The one with a Venomoth flying behind is a boy wearing a teal shirt, pale green pants. He also has light tank skin and purple hair.
The boy calls out, "Are you okay?"
Of course, Brock has his eyes set on the female trainer, "Hello!" and comes up to the female trainer and takes her hand, "Is your mother a great artist? Cause you're a work of art!"
And soon, the Beautifly flies over to her.
"Pretty as a pic…" Brock is soon cut off by the Beautifly landing on his head.
The girl is horrified, "Beautifly, stop that!"
Max walks over and asks, "So I was wondering, were you training your Beautifly for that Pokémon contest?"
"Well, as a matter of fact, I was, but, unfortunately, some of the attacks went a little bit wrong," The female trainer says.
Then Venomoth's trainer says, "That's probably my fault Venomoth's Whirlwind attack was too strong. It was a hopeless failure."
Then the girl introduces herself, "My name's Janet, by the way."
Then the young man says, "And I'm Chaz. How's it going?"
"Fine. I'm Ashley," Mew says.
"Hi. I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
Then May says, "And my name's May."
"And I'm Max," Max says.
"And I'm Brock, your future boyfriend," Brock says.
"I think I can understand what you mean about your attack," Mew says.
"Really?" Max asks.
"Yeah. The truth is, I've seen a Pokemon Contest before in the Johto Region," Mew says.
"That's cool," May says.
"Then I suspect that you know that Contest battling isn't like a normal Pokemon battle," Chaz says.
"How so?" May asks.
"It's about the beauty of the attack, it's not about the raw power," Janet says.
"The beauty of attacks?" May questions.
"Yes. We're Coordinators and we train Pokémon to be graceful," Janet says.
Soon, May remembers, "Oh, I know! I've heard of Pokemon Contests! Aren't they when the winner gets a cute little ribbon or something?"
"That's exactly right," Janet says, and gets out her ribbon case, "And they look just like these two."
"No way! You've already got two of them?" May says, amazed.
Chaz also opens his ribbon case, "Hey, you wanna take a look at the one I won?"
"That's so cool! I'm gonna win one, too!" May says.
"I think you'd need to be good with Pokémon to win," Max says.
May turns to Max, "Huh? I'm a natural with Pokémon."
Then Brock says, "Hey Ashley, how about you enter the contest?"
"Me?" Mew questions.
"Well, you did mention you like to try Pokemon Contests. Now's your chance," Brock says.
"Yeah. You should totally try it," Tomo says.
Jen and Molly agree.
Janet turns to Chaz, "I know the entry is limited, I wonder if it's too late at this point."
"Nah, but they should probably hurry," Chaz says.
Meanwhile, inside Rustboro Hall…
Someone says, "Here."
It's shown that Team Rocket are inside, and Jessie is looking to enter the contest
"Enter me in the contest, now," Jessie says.
But the receptionist says, "I'm sorry, but this pass is expired, so you don't qualify for contest entry."
"I'm sorry, I don't think I heard you correctly," Jessie says.
The receptionist repeats herself, "Then I'll say it again, your card is expired."
Jessie slumps.
"Does she know who you are?" James questions.
"I'll try being charming," Jessie says.
"There is a chance I could renew your pass for you," the receptionist says.
Jessie happily says, "Oh! That would be divine."
Later, our heroes are in the hall to enter.
"Huh? There's only one spot?" May asks.
Receptionist says, "The recent participant in the Pokemon Contest signed up just before you guys got here. And now we only have one spot left."
"Why didn't we get here sooner? That more of us can compete," May slumps.
"But which one should take the last spot?" Max asks.
Then May turns to Mew, "How about you?"
"Well, I don't know. I do want to try out the Pokemon Contest, but I'm still debating about competing in the Grand Festival," May says.
Then Chaz says, "Maybe you should try competing in this contest. It might help you decide better on whether you want to continue or not."
"Um sure, but I don't have a contest pass," Mew says.
The receptionist says, "I can help you get registered for you to participate in the contest."
"Thank you," Mew says.
Then Janet says, "And perhaps you could issue everyone passes to just watch the contest?"
The receptionist nods, "Of course I can."
Later the group is given the pass to watch the contest.
"Now, you'll need those passes to enter the arena, so make sure you don't lose them," Janet says.
"Too bad we couldn't enter, but at least we get to observe," Brock says.
"Big bummer," May says.
Then turns to Mew, "At least you get to compete."
Soon, Janet's Beautifly lands on May's head again.
May cries out, "Hey, pal! Find somewhere else to sit!"
Then Max has an idea, "May, I have an idea! Maybe you can be Janet, Mew or Chaz's assistant!"
"Pika Pika!" (That sounds perfect!) Pikachu says.
"That's silly. There's no way…" May says.
But Janet says, "I think Max has a great idea. I'd love for you to be my Pokemon assistant, May."
"You mean it?" May asks, amazed.
"I'm sure that Beautifly thinks it's a good idea as well," Chaz says and feeds his Venomoth.
Brock notices, "That's Pokéblock, right?"
"Yeah, I always use it as a snack, along with their main diet Pokémon food. You want to try some yourself? Hold out your hands," Chaz says and, drops three Pokéblocks into Brock's hands as he says, "It's chock full of nutrition."
"You mix berries in when you make it, right? And the different types of Pokéblock depend on the kinds of berries you mix into it," Brock says and eats one.
"Right," chaz says, "Everyone kinda makes their own recipe."
"I created my recipe for making the best Beautifly Pokéblock," Janet says.
"Wow! That explains it," Max says and looks at Beautifly, "That's probably why its wings are so beautiful!"
Beautifly soon starts to fly around Max.
"Do you think it's mad at me?" Max asks.
But Janet says, "No. It's just thanking you for the compliment. And I should really say thank you, too."
"Thank for what?" Max asks.
As Max talks, Beautifly lands on May's head again.
"Yeah, what did he do?" May asks.
"It's so nice to hear someone praise the Pokemon that I train," Janet says.
"I know what you mean, Janet," Mew says.
"Yeah, that does feel good," Brock says.
"It really makes you proud of all the hard work and energy you've put into the training," Chaz says.
"Oh," May says and looks up and Beautifly, "I guess I could see that."
"Hey, are you guys gonna be heading over to Rustboro City for a gym battle?" Chaz asks.
"Yeah, that's our next stop," Mew says.
"I'm gonna battle, too," May says.
"My Pokemon and I are good to go," Mew says.
"Pika!" (Oh, yeah!) Pikachu says.
And Eevee says, "Eevee!" (We sure are!)
"You're planning on battling with Pikachu?" Chaz asks.
"That might be difficult," Janet says.
"Well, I haven't fully decided yet, but I really like to play Pikachu or Eevee," Mew says.
"Well Ashley, Eevee might be a better choice because the Rustboro gym is a rock Pokemon gym," Chaz says.
"A rock gym?" Jen questions.
Then Brock says, "That'll sure make things tough for an electric type like Pikachu."
"But Ashley has other Pokemon like Water and Grass Types," Tomo says.
Then Max realizes something, "That's gonna be a problem for you, too, May! A fire Pokemon like your Torchic won't have much effect at all on any of those Rock Pokemon!"
"True, but Pikachu and Eevee can use Iron Tail," Mew says.
"Yeah. It should be strong enough for Rock Types," Max says.
"That's great to hear," Chaz says.
"Yeah. But for now, I got a crash course for this contest," Mew says.
Jen says, "I'll help you."
"Me too," Molly says.
May then says, "Well, I'd love to join you, but I've got a Beautifly on my head."
"You should learn Iron Tail too," Max says to May.
"But Max Torchic can't use that attack," Mew says.
"Oh, well. Maybe next time," May says.
"What are you talking about?" Max asks.
"You do your thing, I'll do my thing," May says.
Soon, Mew is trying to think of what to do for the Pokemon Contest. It will be difficult because she hasn't practiced it.
"Hmm, which Pokemon should I use for the Contest. I didn't put much practice into it," Mew says.
"You can think of something," Molly says.
Soon, Eevee says, "Eev Eevee." (I can do it.)
"You wanna perform first?" Mew asks.
Eevee nods.
Mew smiles and nods, "Of course. Let's see if we can use the attacks and make them great."
Eevee nods, "Eevee!" (Right!)
With that, Mew begins their quick training, Eevee performs Thunderbolt, Swift, Iron Tail, Stone Edge, and other attacks Eevee can do. Mew
Meanwhile, Jessie is reading a book, hoping to learn how to win battles with stylish attacks.
"What's that you're reading?" James asks
"Pokemon attacks," Jessie answers, "Tells how to win any battle with a stylish and flamboyant attack."
"Since when do you care about dat stuff, Jess?" Meowth says.
"Since I found out that I can become a star by winning these Contests," Jessie says.
James and Meowth instantly like the idea.
"After I win, I'll have my very own Jessie fan club," Jessie says.
"Wha?" The boys reply, confused.
"And we can use my fan club to recruit new members to the Hoenn branch of Team Rocket," Jessie says.
James and Meowth reply, "Yeah!"
"Now, onward and upward!" Jessie says.
"Up, up and away!" James says.
"From here to etoinity!" Meowth says.
Team Rocket cheers, "Team Rocket rocks!"
Meanwhile, the Rustboro City Pokémon Contest is getting underway.
The announcer says, "The wait is over! The Rustboro Pokemon Contest is about to get underway! On the panel of judges this year are Contesta, the chief of the Pokémon Activities Committee; Mr. Sukizo, president of the Pokémon Fan Club; and Nurse Joy from Rustboro City!
As the announcer talks, our heroes watch from the locker room.
He then displays the contest ribbon, "And, like every year, the winner will receive this Rustboro ribbon! Now listen up, anyone winning five ribbons from the various regional Pokemon Contests will earn a free automatic entry into the Grand Festival at Slateport City.
"Wow. Awesome," May says.
"The most important part is the Pokémon's entry," Janet says, "First impressions really do matter, especially in the first round, called the Appeals Round. The judges will form opinions from the first attack, and they take into account the degree of the degree of the Pokémon's development and its level of cooperation with its trainer. The final decision is made based on points given by the judges. It's very exciting."
As Jant talks, many coordinators take the stage and perform.
"Awesome! Awesome!" May says, amazed.
"Perhaps you can expand your vocabulary a bit," Max says.
"I know but it's so awesome! Pokemon are incredible! I never realized," May says, amazed.
Soon enough, the crowd cheers for Venomoth as it uses Confusion to lift multiple objects for the crowd
"This is incredible! Venomoth is giving a perfect display Confusion control!" The announcer says.
Venomoth pours a cup of tea.
Inside the hall, the judges make their decision. 9.5, 10 and 10 for all three individual judges for a total near-perfect score of 29.5.
"That's unbelievable! These are the highest points we've seen so far!" The announcer says.
Then the announcer says, "Our next contestant is entry number 17, let's hear it for Janet!"
The spotlight comes on above Janet, May and Max, as Brock and the others watch.
"It's Janet! With Max and May!" Molly says.
Janet then calls out, "It's time, Beautifly."
Beautifly comes with a small burst of sparkles.
"Go, Beautifly, use Flash!" Janet calls out.
Beautifly performs the move, causing a dazzling display.
"That's cool!" Tomo says.
"Loetta," (Pretty!) Meloetta says.
"Alright!" Max says.
"Awesome!" May says.
Max screams, "Enough with the awesome!" and runs into position.
"Hey! Wait for me!" May says, follows behind him.
The light fades as May and Max stand in position
May and Max tosses some plates as they shout, "Go!"
Beautifly uses String Shot to smack and smash every one of the plates, creating a sparkling rain of debris.
The announcer says, "Beautifly is building on an elegant entry by demonstrating its String Shot attack, a move that uses a whipping motion to achieve results!"
Everyone is shocked and amazed, while May and Max stand in the sparkling debris rain in amazement before Beautifly's wings stop glowing.
"Beautifly, Hidden Power!" Janet calls out.
Beautifly creates sparkling rings around it before completely glowing and creating another sparkling rain, delighting the crowd as Beautifly lands on Janet's hand.
Then the announcer says, "And to finish, a beautiful landing in the Coordinator's hand! How many points will Beautifly get?"
The judges all give Beautifly 10 points, giving it a perfect score of 30.
"And the judges all agree, Beautifly's performance deserves a perfect score!" The announcer says.
Janet bows as the crowd begins to cheer and May and Max clap from the sidelines.
"Wow!" May says.
"Alright!" Max replies.
Brock and the others come into the dressing room/locker room to congratulate Janet.
"You did it!" Molly cheers.
"Thank you," May says.
Max turns to May, "Actually, I don't think he was referring to you, May."
May blushes, "Oh," and giggles sheepishly.
Janet turns to Max and May, "I couldn't have done it without both of you. You two were great."
"Really?" May asks with a smile.
"It was my pleasure," May says.
Back out on the stage…
"Now, for our next entry in the Appeals Round, this is entry number 29, Mademoiselle Jessica!" Then the announcer says.
As the announcer talks, a spotlight comes down over Team Rocket.
James whispers, "Good luck, Jessie."
Meowth whispers, "Show em who da star is."
"Don't worry. Leave it to me," Jessie says and calls out, "Go, Seviper!"
Seviper soon comes out of the Pokeball.
Jessie calls out, "Do this right, Seviper! Now go use Sacred Fire!"
Seviper is dumbfounded, "Seviper?! Seviper?!" (Sacred Fire?! Say what?!)
"Uh oh!" Meowth says, worried.
"I'm not sure Seviper knows how to use that attack!" James says.
"Ugh, come on! Use Sacred Fire! What are you waiting for?!" Jessie shouts.
Seviper sweat drops, and shakes its head, "Brbrbrbrbrbr!" (I don't even know it!)
"You don't know it?" Jessie responds and calls the next attack, "Alright, use Water Pulse!"
Seviper shakes its head again, "Brbrbrbrbr!" (I can't use that either!)
Jessie: Then use Blaze Kick!" Jessie says.
Seviper shakes its head faster, "Brbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbr!" (Uh-uh! No, you gotta be kidding me?!)
"Awkward!" Jessie says.
"I guess dat Seviper ain't loined no attacks," Meowth says
"Wobbu!" (Seems so!) Wobbuffet says.
"What?!" Jessie panics and gets out the book, "Okay then, Lemme see here...," and reads it, "You know Dragon Claw?"
Seviper sweats
"What about Psywave?" Jessie says.
Seviper sweats even more.
"Luster Purge?" Jessie says.
Seviper moans as sweat comes down its face like a waterfall.
Jessie screams, "Would somebody please wake me up from this terrible nightmare!"
Backstage, Mew and the others are just simply baffled and annoyed.
"For crying out loud! Snakes don't have legs or claws!" Mew says.
"Lame!" Jen comments.
Tomo then shouts, "Boo!"
And soon the crowd boo and jeer Jessie.
People begin shouting like "You're a waste of our time and money!" "Why did she even enter?"
Even the judges seemed disappointed while our heroes were disdained at the 'performance'
Back on the stage, Team Rocket is equally horrified.
Meowth cries out, "Jessie, I'm sensing a hint of crowd displeasurement. Try a Poison Tail attack!"
"It won't work, but I'll try it," Jessie says, Then calls out, "Seviper, Poison Tail!"
Seviper regains its composure, performs the attack and smacks Jessie hard enough with it to send her flying.
Jessie cries out, "Thanks for the tip, Meowth!"
Jessie goes flying through the roof of the hall
Seviper cries out, "Brbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbbrbrbr!" (Ah! Oh no!)
Team Rocket goes after her while the judges give a score of 0, prompting every one of Mew and the others in the crowd and in the dressing room/locker room to sweat drop.
"How could anyone be that bad?" May says.
"No joke," Max replies.
"That was terrible," Molly says.
"That's the worst performance I've seen," Jen says.
Then the announcer says, "I apologize to all of you for having to witness that atrocious spectacle," sounding uneasy.
But soon calls out with a smile, "So, let's get back into the spirit of things without any further delay. And now, for the last entry in the Appeals Round, this is entry number 30, Ashley!"
Mew/Ashley is now on the battlefield.
"Alright, Eevee…" Mew says as Eevee walks on her arm.
Then throws Eevee in the air as eevee jumps, "Let's do it."
"Eevee!" (Yeah!) Eevee calls out.
"Alright Eevee, use Swift Attack!" Mew calls out.
Eevee then performs the Swift Attack and allows the Stars to fly around.
"Now Eevee, use Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.
Eevee then performs Thunderbolt and hits the Swift, connecting the stars together.
"Thunderbolt!" Janet says, surprised.
"How did Ashley teach Eevee how to do that?" Chaz adds, surprised.
Then Mew calls out, "Now Last Resort!"
And with that, Eevee launches the Last Resort Attack. Creating a big star which fires at the center top of the Swift, Thunderbolt, and explodes into twinkling stars and yellow sparkles. Everyone is amazed to see the performance. Eevee lands on the ground and allows the star and sparkle to land on its head and tail.
"And Eevee has finished it with a perfect landing, and got nice sparkling stars," The announcer says, "How many points will Eevee get?"
The judges all give give Eevee a 10, giving it a perfect score of 30
"And the judges all agree, Eevee's performance deserves a perfect score!" The announcer says.
Mew smiles and picks up Eevee, "You were great Eevee."
"Eevee!" (Thanks! That was amazing!) Eevee says.
Sometime later, the announcer says, "And with this appeals round behind us, I now present, the finalists!" And motions up to the scoreboard as the camera pans up to it, revealing the final four Coordinators, with Chaz, Janet, and Mew being among them. Turns out, Mew/Ashley will be battling another trainer while Chaz and Janet battle against each other.
Max happily says, "Look! It's gonna come down toAshley, Janet and Chaz, and it's partly because of my help!"
"Don't get carried away with yourself. You know it was mostly thanks to me," May says.
"Yeah, you were really 'awesome', weren't ya?" Max says, sarcastically.
May chuckles sheepishly.
Janet turns to Chaz and Mew, "Hope you're ready for some stiff competition."
"I'm just ready to win," Chaz says.
"Me too!" Mew says.
"Good luck," Janet says.
"You too!" Mew says.
"Good luck," Chaz says.
Then all three say, "To victory!"
Outside in the forest, Jessie reconciles with Seviper.
Jessie cries and hugs her Pokemon, "I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, Seviper! Your Poison Tail was incredible!"
"Alright, Jess, enough groveling! Meowth has a new plan!" James says.
"We're just gonna steal da Pokémon dat wins dat contest," Meowth says.
"Yes, my plan! I was just about to suggest it!" Jessie says.
James and Meowth just sweat drop in disbelief.
"You mean dat wasn't my idea?" Meowth asks.
"Wooobbu!" (Guess not!) Wobbuffet says.
Back at the Contest…
The announcer says, "Now, the Rustboro Pokemon Contest has come to the exciting final Battle Stage! It's down to Janet and Ashley, who both showed extraordinary skills in the Appeals Round!"
"I can't wait to see them battle each other," Tomo says.
"It's between Beautifly and Eevee," May says.
"But can they do it without my help?" Max wonders.
"Somehow, they'll manage," Brock says.
Soon, the scoreboard is set, and the announcer says, "Ladies and gentlemen, the final five minute Contest Battle will now begin!"
The timer soon starts.
Mew calls out, "Go, Eevee!"
"Go get em, Beautifly!" Janet calls out.
Eevee jumps into the battlefield from Mew's shoulder and Butterfree comes out of the Pokeball.
Mew calls out, "Eevee, Swift Attack!"
Janet calls out, "Beautifly, use Gust!"
Beautifly uses Gust Attack that ends up blowing Swift away and towards Eevee. Eevee quickly dodges the attack.
The announcer says, "Look at that! Beautifly used Gust to blow away Eevee's Swift Attack!"
Both Mew and Janet lose points.
Confused, May wonders, "Huh? I don't get it. It looks like both of them lost points.
"It's because Eevee's Swift Attack worked at first, but was then blown back by Gust," Max says.
"But Chaz lost more points than Janet," Molly says.
"It just means that Beautifly's Gust attack was worth more points. It's not just the attacks that count, but how you defend yourself, too," Max says.
"Oh," Mays.
"That's right. They keep on reducing each other's points and then the one with the most points left in the end is the winner," Brock says.
"This type of Pokemon battling is very different, but it's exciting," Jen says.
"Yeah," May agrees.
"Beautifly, use Hidden Power!" Janet calls out
Beautifly fires the attack.
Mew calls out, "Eevee, use Quick Attack and Dodge!"
Eevee uses Quick Attack to get away from the attack, but soon Eevee is being chased by the attack.
"Oh, wow!" May says, surprised.
"But why couldn't it dodge?" Tomo asks.
"Janet's Beautifly must be able to control the path of its Hidden Power attack," Brock says.
Mew then calls out, "Eevee, use Stone Edge to dodge!"
Eevee then performs Stone Edge and uses it to jump away from the attack.
That causes Mew and Janet to lose more points.
"That's impressive. I've never seen an Eevee use Stone Edge before, and to dodge the attack so spectacularly," Janet says.
"Thanks, but that's not all Eevee can do," Mew says. Then calls out, "Use Shadow Ball!"
Eevee fires the attack and nails Beautifly, forcing it down.
"Oh no! Beautifly!" Janet calls out.
Janet's points drop to half.
"Eevee makes a clean hit with Shadow Ball!" The announcer says.
"That doesn't mean that Me- I mean Ashley is gonna win, you know," Max says.
Just then, Janet calls out, "Beautifly, Morning Sun!"
Beautifly starts to glow, then it levitates up as the sun shines down on it, amazing the crowd, and especially May.
Awesome," May says, amazed.
The glow fades and Beautifly is revealed to have had its energy restored.
Chaz is surprised, "Restoration? By way of Morning Sun? Wonder when it learned that move."
The announcer says, "Beautifly pulled off that Morning Sun to perfection! This is truly beautiful. Even the judges are astounded!"
Mew's points decrease as a result.
"Mew lost a lot of points! That was awesome! I mean, amazing," Max says.
"I know. I wish I could enter a contest and battle just like Janet and Beautifly," May says, amazed.
The timer soon reaches one minute.
Mew calls out, "Shadow Ball!"
"Hidden Power!" Janet calls out.
Both attacks collide and cause an explosion, resulting in both trainers losing points.
"Hold on! A tie?" Tomo says.
"Beautifly, Flash attack!" Janet calls out.
Mew calls out, "Use Thunderbolt!"
Both attacks power up, but the timer runs out
The announcer says, "The battle is over! Let's have a look at the scoreboard!"
The scoreboard shows, and it shows that it's a very, very close call. However, as a result, Janet has more points than Mew.
And the announcer says, "Victory goes to Janet and her Beautifly!"
"Alright!" May cheers.
"Wow. Mew actually lost this time," Tomo says, looking rather surprised.
"I'm surprised," Jen says.
Eevee saddens to hear that she actually lost.
Mew picks up Eevee and smiles, "It's okay Eevee. You did a really great job on your Pokemon Contest. We may not have won this one, but you've gained a brand new experience."
"Eevee!" (That's true.) Eevee says.
Janet giggles as Beautifly lands on her hand, "Thank you, Beautifly!"
Mew approaches Janet, "You were incredible."
"And you were, too. You really did great on your first contest," Janet says.
"Thanks Janet," Mew says.
Suddenly, Jessie's voice speaks up, "Yes, you were both great!"
Janet and Mew look and see Team Rocket, once again in disguise.
"Let us be the first to congratulate you," Jessie says.
"We were invited specially as your congratulatory committee," James says.
"No one told me about this," The announcer responds, confused.
Jessie snatches the microphone, "Well, in that case, let me just say to that majestic Beautifly; you won!"
Jessie hands Janet a bouquet of roses, "Your congratulatory bouquet."
Janet takes the roses, "Oh, well, thank you.
Suddenly, smoke comes out of the rose bouquet.
"Look out!" Mew cries out and knocks the roses away.
The bouquet continues to spew smoke
"What's going on here?" Chaz cries out.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble as we congratulate!
James:
And made it double as we coordinate!
The smokes clears to show Team Rocket had caught Beautifly and Eevee in nets.

To unite all peoples within our nation.

To denounce the evils of truth and love.

To extend our reach to the stars above.

Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light.

Jen and Tomo cry out, "Team Rocket!"
"What are you doing here?!" May demands.
"When we heard there was a Pokémon Contest, we just had to come, see?" Jessie says.
"We don't like the bothersome task of raising and training Pokémon," James says.
"So we decided to come here and steal em, dat way we know dey're good and strong," Meowth says.
Chaz sternly says, "You three are no-good, lazy cheats! And everything about you is an insult to all Pokémon trainers and coordinators!"
"That's right! You're just crooks!" Janrt says.
"You three rotten cheaters!" Mew angrily says.
"Sticks and stones!" Jessie says and calls out her Pokemon, "Seviper, take care of them!"
And Seviper comes out into battle.
"Oh, no you don't! Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu performs Iron Tail and is able to counter Seviper's Poison Tail and the two struggle to repel each other. Then Piakchu gains the upper hand and pushes Seviper back.
Then May calls out, "Now, Torchic! Help us out!"
Torchic comes out of the Pokeball.
"Torchic, use Ember to break through the nets!" May calls out.
Torchic does so, freeing both Pokémon as Team Rocket panics.
"We stole those fair and square!" James panics.
"Thanks, May, you're great," Janet says.
"Thanks May," Mew says and picks up Eevee.
Janet turns to Chaz, "You ready, Chaz?"
"Sure am!" Chaz says, and calls out his Venomoth
Janet calls out, "Beautifly…"
"Venomoth…" Chaz says
They both call out, "Go, Double Gust!"
Chaz and Janet's Pokemon create a massive tornado that sends Team Rocket blasting off through the roof.
Team Rocket cries out, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
Later, Janet is seen getting her prize.
The announcer says, "And now, Mr. Contesta will present our winner with the first place Rustboro Ribbon!"
Janet then receives her ribbon.
May asks, "Janet, can we take a look?
"Of course," Janet says, and shows everyone the ribbon.
"Wow. It's beautiful," May says, amazed, "You know what? I've decided that one day, I'm gonna enter a Contest, too! And earn my very own ribbon!"
Mew then turns to May, "You know what May, me too."
But Max says, "Uh, May? Ashley? Maybe you both should worry about training for your first battle first.
May sheepishly says, "Oh, yeah. Perhaps."
"That's true," Mew says, sheepishly.
"Good luck, May," Janet says.
Then Chaz says, "You too, Ashley. I hope it goes well for you all at the Rustboro Gym."
"Thanks," Mew says.
"But it's also a good idea to work more on Contest Battles," Brock says.
"You're right," Mew says.
The Pokemon Contest was just as eventful for Mew and May, as it was for Janet and Chaz. May learned more about the charms of Pokemon. Mew may have lost the Contest to Janet, but being part of the Pokemon Contest really helped encourage her to pursue on also becoming a Pokemon Coordinator. Another chapter and path for her to follow. Just imagine what awaits them at the Rustboro gym.
