Episode 21: Brave the Wave
Today, Mew and her friends walk out of the Pokemon Center. Mew is excited for her match at the Dewford Gym.
Mew turns to her Pokemon, "I can't wait for our next match at the Dewford Gym? Are you both ready?"
"Pika Pika!" (You bet I am!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee!" (Ready when you are!)
"You three are raring to go, huh Mew?" Max replies
"Oh, yeah. I'm sure she's excited to battle and win her second badge," Brock says.
May is heard yawning, causing everyone to look back and find her carrying her pillow.
"A gym battle this early in the morning should be illegal," May says.
"But it's not that early," Jen says.
Then Max asks, "Uhhh...May? What is that you're carrying?"
"Huh?" May responds and looks down and realizes they were right before gasping in shock. She blushes, "Funny, I almost took my pillow from the Pokémon Center," And nervously laughs.
Sometime later, Mew and the others arrive at the Dewford Town Gym.
"Hey look. the Dewford Town gym!" Mew says.
They see the gym's entrance arch stating 'Fight the big wave'.
"Fight the big wave?" May and Molly reply confused.
"If they have that written right on the door of their gym, they must be pretty confident in their fighting, huh?" Max says.
"You're right. Maybe it's another one of those muscle-bound trainers. Remember Chuck from the Cianwood gym? Ooh, yeesh!" Brock says.
"I remember. Chuck was one tough gym leader," Mew says.
"But you managed to beat him," Tomo says.
"True. My guess is that this trainer must use fighting types," Mew says.
Mew then walks over and knocks on the door, "Hello there, is anybody home?"
Suddenly, the door flies open, causing Mew to move out of the way to a fleet of people with surfboards rush outside.
"Oh my," Mew says.
Soon, someone notices Mew, "Hey, dudette."
Mew responded, confused, "Huh?"
Mew turns to see a man with orange swim shorts, an orange and white shirt with a black undershirt, and is holding a green surfboard. He has cyan blue hair and light blue eyes, along with flighty tan skin.
"Probably not the best place for you to be standing, you know?" The man says.
"Um yeah. I kind of know, but um…" Mew nervously says.
But Brock becomes lovestruck, "So many beautiful surfer girls!" And approaches one in a purple swimsuit, "Hello, ladies. My name is Brock. What say we catch a wave on the surfboard of love?"
Soon, Mew grabs Brock by the ear, "Keep this up and you'll make a heartbreaking wipeout," And drags Brock away.
Brock feels the pain, "Not the ear!"
Tomo, Jen, and Molly laugh.
The man approaches Mew, "Can I help you with something?"
Mew nods, "Yes. I'm looking for the Dewford Gym leader," and lets go of Brock's ear.
The guy says, "No way! I'm him!"
"Really?" Mew asks.
The man says, "Brawly, the gym leader of the Dewford gym. Are you here to challenge me, little lady?"
"Yeah, I'm Ashley, from Pallet Town," Mew says.
Then Brawly says, "Sorry, dudette, no can do. You see, right up until yesterday, the onshore scene was totally gnarly with some really wicked wave-age, but today, there's a radical face showing just offshore, so come on back tomorrow. Hey, surf's up!" and runs off.
The surfer girls follow right behind him.
Both of them shout, "Shoot the curl! You are so cool!"
Confused, Mew says, "Totally gnarly with some really wicked wave-age?"
"Anyone here speak that language?" Max asks.
"Not me," Brock says.
"I don't understand surfer talk," Jen says.
"He sure is different from some of the other Gym Leaders," Mew says.
"Yeah. He's kind of cool," Tomo says.
"Come on, I think we should all check out that radical face, too!" May says and runs off.
"Riding the waves with all those gorgeous surfer girls sounds good to me!" Brock says and follows May.
"Can we go?" Molly asks.
"Sure. We can't have a gym battle with no gym leader. Let's check it out," Mew says.
Out at the beach, there are many different surfers riding the waves.
Meanwhile, inside a restaurant, two customers walk in.
A Surfer calls out, "Hey, is there anybody working here or what?"
And just then, Jessie and James appear in restaurant uniforms as they perform the motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble, you want fries with that?
James:
Double delish with half the fat.
Jessie:
To protect the world from unhealthy food!
James:
To give great service and never be rude!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of high carbohydrates!
James:
To extend our reach to the earth and its primates!
Jessie:
Jessie!
James:
James!
Jessie:
Team Rocket gives great service at the speed of light!
James:
Pay your bill and leave a tip or prepare to fight!
Meowth:
Meowth, dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (End of scene!)
"Awesome, dudes. We'll have two lemonades," The surfer says.
Jessie and James present them their drinks, "Served with a smile."
Surfer and Surfer Girl running in pace, "We'll see you later, much later!" and run off.
"Hmm, dey have come," Meowth says.
"Great. More customers," Jessie and James reply.
"I'm not tawhkin' about customers ya knuckleheaded nincompoops! I couldn't care less about dat! I've had it wit' dis job! I'm tawhkin' about da twoips!" Meowth says.
"Huh?" Jessie and James say, confused.
Jessie and James spot Mew and the others.
"Perfect!" Jessie happily say
"Yes, talk about a stroke of luck! We surfers know how to ride the wave of good fortune," James says.
"Since when were you a surfer?" Jessie asks.
And Meowth says, "Could you please stop your yappin' and concentrate on helpin' me catch Pikachu and Eevee?!"
"Wobb, Wobbuffet!" (You're not in charge!) Wobbuffet says.
Out on the beach, more surfers are surfing the waves while other people are sunbathing.
May happily says, "The ocean! Let's go swimming!"
May suddenly removes her fanny pack.
Max panics, "Hold on, May! Not here! You can't change your clothes on the beach!"
May proceeds to take off her clothes, but to everyone's surprise she has a green swimsuit on her.
"Don't worry. Good grief, my bathing suit's on under my clothes. Not bad. Another great suit huh?" May says.
"Oh, boy," Tomo and Max reply.
Soon, Brock spots the surfer girls.
Lovestruck, Brock says, "Oh, wow! Check it out! Look at all those girls hang ten and ride those waves!" And shouts to the girls, "Maybe when you're finished surfing, you can come ride the waves of love with me!"
Mew then pulls Brock's ear, "The only thing you're surfing for is a wipeout, Brock."
Then May notices, "Look, there's the gym leader over there."
"Huh?" Everyone responds.
They spot Brawly.
"Okay, let's hit it! Makuhita, you're up!" Brawly says and tosses his Pokéball.
And a Makukita comes out. Makuhita is a bipedal humanoid Pokémon with a bulky build. Most of its body is yellow, but it has a black marking on its chest that extends around its neck. Its round hands resemble black boxing gloves, but its feet are yellow with two visible toes. On its cheeks are red, ring-shaped markings, and it has slit-like eyes. On top of its head is a knot, which causes it to resemble a punching bag.
"Makuhita!" (Cowabunga!) Makuhita syas.
Makuhita quickly starts surfing the waves.
"Makuhita!" (Let's hang ten!)
" A Makuhita!" Max says.
"So cool!" Jen says.
"Let's look up more about it," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Makuhita, the Guts Pokémon. A Fighting Type. Makuhita never gives up, always getting back on its feet no matter how many times it's knocked over. Each time rising to its feet building up energy in its body."
"Sure is good with a surfboard," Molly says.
"But doesn't that mean he turned down the challenge just to go surfing?" Tomo questions.
" Maybe it's kind of training they do," Mew wonders.
Out on the water, Brawly and Makuhita see a wave coming towards them.
Brawly calls out, "Whoa, check out that awesome wave! This is the one we've been waiting for, Makuhita, so let's go do it!"
" Maku!" (Gotcha!) Makuhita says.
Soon, both trainer and Pokemon are up and riding.
" Classic form, dude. You are the king, I mean, number one!" Brawly says.
"Makuhita!" (You got that right!) Makuhita says.
"Wow, look at that Makuhita go!" May says.
"Yeah!" Mew says, and calls out, "Surfs up, uh, dudes!"
Unknown to the group, Team Rocket secretly spots Pikachu and Eevee.
Meowth says, " Dere they are."
Team Rocket is revealed to be on a motorboat.
"Good, fire the rocket-propelled nets," Jessie says."
" Roger!" James says.
Right on cue, a net fires from James' bazooka and snares Pikachu and Eevee, catching everyone off-guard.
"Hey, Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew calls out.
Makuhita notices the trouble while surfing, "Makuhita!" (What's going on here?!)
Meowth laughs evilly.
"A piece of cake," Jessie says.
" But a low-fat no carb version," James says.
"Wobbuffet." (Too easy!) Wobbuffet says.
Pikachu and Eevee try to escape, but the jolts come back at them.
"I love these anti-electrical nets!" Meowth says.
" And the boss is going to love us!" Jessie says.
And James says, " The all-new, shining star, top-of-the-heap heads of the Hoenn region; Team Rocket!"
"If nuthin else, it's a great title," Meowth says.
"Wobbu Wobbuffet!" (You got that right, bud!)
Soon, Brawly and Makuhita return to shore to see the trouble.
Brawly demands, "Hey, who are you crazy dudes anyway?!"
Jessie and James say the motto again.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble all you dudes and dudettes!
James:
And make it double…
But Meowth interrupts it, "Enough! We already got dat part out! And speakin of got, let's get before we don't got Pikachu and Eevee no more!"
"You got a point," Jessie and James agree.
The trio start the boat and make a speed exit.
Team Rocket calls out, "Now, we gotta go!"
Mew calls out, "Come back, Team Rocket!"
" Whoa! You can't steal Pokémon like that!" Brawly says and turns to his Pokemon, "Makuhita, help Pikachu and Eevee now!"
Makuhita paddles as fast as it can on its surfboard. Team Rocket notices Makuhita and rams right at the boat, shocking everyone. Pikachu and Eevee soon fall into the water.
"Awesome, Makuhita! That's the way to show those bad guys some power!" Brawly calls out.
"Makuhita," (Thank you, Brawly!) Makuhita says.
Mew rushes over, "Pikachu! Eevee! Are you both okay?"
"Pikachu," (We're okay.) Pikachu says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was plugging holes that were made in their boat after the impact from Makuhita.
"I think it might be best if we just leave," Jessie says.
"You're right. Dis boat's got more holes than a donut factory," Meowth says.
James lets go of the hole he's covering, " But that doesn't mean we have to abandon our plan!"
"Wobb Wobbuffet!" (But we're sinking!) Wobbuffet cries out.
Team Rocket quickly recovers the hole.
Back on the beach, Pikachu and Eevee are free.
Mew turns to her Pokemon, " Pikachu. Eevee. Let's give em a Thunderbolt, are you ready? Go!"
And tosses the two in the air. Both Pikachu and Eevee perform Thunderbolt, destroying the boat and sending Team Rocket flying.
"Well, I guess this means my surfing days are over!" James cries out.
"Not necessarily. Haven't you ever heard of windsurfing?" Jessie says.
"Hang ten!" Meowth says.
Team Rocket cries out, " We're blasting off!"
"Wobbuffet!" (Once again!) Wobbuffet cries out.
"That Pikachu and Eevee of yours is amazing, little dude. Like, I've never seen a Thunderbolt with so much oomph!" Brawly says.
" Pikachu and Eevee are my top dudes," Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"Sorry your surfing got interrupted," Mew says.
"No problem, dudette," Brawly says.
"So Brawly, will you please face me in a gym battle?" Mew asks, "If you're up for it.
" You know, I guess there are some things just meant to happen, huh? You've got it! I accept your battle challenge," Brawly says.
"That's awesome! Thanks!" Mew says.
Soon, a woman with beige skin, yellow eyes and blonde hair emerges)
Soon, everyone is at the Dewford gym for Mew's gym battle. Mew is ready to battle.
"I wonder what strategy she'll use this time," May says.
"Well, Mew suspected that Brawly will use Fighting Types, but we'll have to wait and see. From what I remember from early, she did decide to switch some of her Pokemon just in case," Brock says.
"So we'll have to wait and see what happens," Jen says.
Max calls out, "Remember, you can't let your guard down, Ashley! Brawly's Makuhita is one super powerful Pokémon!"
"Also, fighting Pokémon trainers tend to rely almost completely on power and attack their opponents head-on. Maybe you should gain an advantage against Brawly's fighting Pokémon and use a flying type," Brock says.
"I know what you mean. Pokemon like Makuhita are weak against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy Types," Mew says.
"True, but Brawly might use more than one Pokemon in this match," May says.
"That's also true, but Brawly also gains experience so using Fairy and Psychic may not always work," Mew says.
"Yeah. Sounds like you need a good plan," Max says.
" I kniow," Mew says.
Soon, the referee announces, "The match between the Dewford gym leader Brawly and the challenger, Ashley from Pallet Town, will now begin! Each trainer will use two Pokemon! Only the challenger is allowed substitutions!"
" And here comes my first Pokémon. Go, Honchkrow!" Mew says.
And soon, Honchkrow comes out.
"Woah! What Pokemon is that?!" May asks, surprised.
"It's Honchkrow," Molly says.
"Honchkrow, not a bad choice against Fighting-types. I can dig that strategy. Let's see if you can dig this," Brawlt says and calls out his Pokemon, "Machop, I choose you!"
And Machop comes out.
" Whoa, Machop!" May says, surprised.
"I knew it, a Fighting-type," Max says.
May checks her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Machop, the Superpower Pokémon. Machop have muscles that never tire, no matter how much they exercise. Machop have enough strength to throw 100 average-sized adults."
"100?" May responds, shocked.
Then May turns her Pokedex to Honchkrow.
Dexette says, "Honchkrow, the Big Boss Pokemon. A Dark and Flying Type. Becoming active at night, it is known to swarm with numerous Murkrow in tow. It is merciless by nature. It is said that it never forgives the mistakes of its Murkrow followers."
"Sounds and looks like Honchkrow's tough. I wonder how this battle will go," May wonders.
The referee announces, "Begin!
"Alright Honchkrow! Wing Attack, now!" Mew calls out.
Honchkrow dives down with glowing wings…
"Coming right at you, Machop!" Brawly calls out.
"Machop!" (Affirmative!) Machop says.
Honchkrow strikes Machop in the arm as it attempts to block the attack.
"Good job, Honchkrow!" Mew calls out.
However, Machop gets up, making Brawly proud.
"Hmm, that Machop is tougher than I thought," Mew says.
Then calls out, "Let's give it another Wing Attack!"
Honchkrow dives down and nails Machop again.
"Wing Attack one more time!" Mew calls out.
Honchkrow uses divebombs and nails Machop again.
"You're looking good, Machop!" Brawly says.
Honchkrow hit Machop multiple times but Machop still got back on its feet.
Mew says in thought, "That Machop must have a lot of endurance!"
Max gasps in shock, "Do you think Honchkrow's Wing Attacks are missing it or something?"
"Not at all. They're hitting it," Brock says.
"Then what is it, Brock?" May asks.
"It's Machop's endurance," Brock says.
"Endurance?" Jen questions.
"Machop keeps absorbing the blows," Brock says.
"That means the attacks are worthless?" Max says.
"Yeah. There's been no damage done at all," Brock says.
"Looks like I need to do something else," Mew says.
"Alright Honchkrow, take flight!" Mew calls out.
Honchkrow does just that and takes flight and dives down towards Machop
Brawly calls out, "Alright, Machop, Cross Chop, go!"
Machop charged forward, leaped, and head to attack.
But Mew calls out, "Use Sucker Punch!"
Honchkrow performs Sucker Punch and is able to nail Machop.
"That was close!" May says.
"Too close!" Brock says.
However, Machop is able to get up again.
"Great, Machop!" Brock says.
"Hmm, that Machop is tougher than I thought," Mew says.
"That's weird. I always thought that a Flying-type Pokémon would've had a huge advantage against a Fighting-type. Isn't that right, Brock?" Max wonders.
Soon, Brock says, "I know! Machop's skills at surfing must have something to do with absorbing attacks."
Everyone was confused at Brock's realization.
"The way Machop moves around on the battlefield is the same way it uses its legs for control while riding on a surfboard," Brock says.
"Whoa, really?!" Jen asks, surprised.
"That's true. It's the same," May says.
"You're right! Incredible!" Max says.
"Bet Mew also realizes that using Flying Types isn't going to work the same," Brock says.
Mew says in thought, "Seems that all the surfing Brawly done really helps his Pokemon do very well against flying types. I need another plan."
Then Mew has an idea, "I know what to do."
Mew calls out, "Alright, use Acrobatics!"
Honchkrow dives down and performs Acrobatics to hit, and hit hit Machop directly, but Machop gets back up.
"Now Fly!" Mew calls out.
Honchkrow takes flies, dives down and attacks Machop directly but it still got back up)
"Whoa! Awesome, dude! Nice flying attack," Brawly says.
Brock says in thought, "Mew has a plan."
And soon, Machop begins to get tired after Honchkrow's powerful attacks.
"Machop's getting tired!" Brock says.
Mew says, "Now Honchkrow, use Aerial Ace!"
Honchkrow begins performing the attack and flies down towards Machop
Brawly calls out, "Look out! Dodge it, Machop!"
Machop barely managed to avoid contact.
Mww calls out, "Air Slash!"
And with that, Honchkrow nails the attack with a surprise attack
"Machop!" Brawly calls out.
Machop soon hit the floor and skidded along to the surprise of everyone on the sidelines until it stopped. It tried to get up, but couldn't.
"Machop is unable to battle! Honchkrow wins!" The referee says.
"Good job, Machop. Return," Bralwy says.
Machop is recalled.
"So Brawly, what do you think of that?" Mew asks.
"It's starting to get interesting, sort of like when a bumpy wave's got you head over heels off your board. You know, this old wave just may be worth the ride after all," Brawly says.
"Mew is doing good," May says.
"Mm, yeah," Max says.
"I'm afraid part of it happened because Machop was tired and Mew's strategy to use speed instead of just pure attack/ However, it also clears that Honchkrow is starting to get exhausted.
Everyone looks and sees Honchkrow panting.
"I doubt that strategy will work twice," Brock says.
Soon, Brawly calls out, "Makuhita, take off!"
And with that Makuhita comes out, and stomps like a sumo wrestler.
Mew then calls back Honchkrow, "Return Honchkrow," and calls it back to the Pokeball.
Mew says to the Pokeball, "you get a good rest. That battle tuckered you out."
"Good idea. Honchkrow could use some rest," Tomo says.
"Especially from that battle with Machop," Max says.
"Wonder which Pokemon will Mew use next," May wonders.
Mew brings out her Pokeball, "Okay. Time to make this interesting! Go Wave!"
And with that, Wave, the Alolan Raichu comes out.
Max and May are shocked.
"Is that a Raichu?" May asks.
"It is, but it's so different," Max says, surprised.
"Yeah. This Raichu is an Alolan Raichu," Brock says.
May brings out her pokedex.
And Dexttete says, "Raichu, the Mouse Pokemon. Alola Form. an Electric and Psychic Type. It uses psychokinesis to control electricity. It hops aboard its own tail, using psychic power to lift the tail and move about while riding it."
"Well, this is getting interesting," Brawly says.
"Alright Wave, let's start with Agility!" Mew calls out.
Wave then performs Agility.
"Use Spark!" Mew calls out.
Wave uses Spark and the attack lands, though Makuhita spun around just as Machop did.
"Let's try something else. Use Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.
Wave picks up speed and mananges to hit Makuhita, but it stands up.
"That's it! Just like riding a surfboard, let it roll off your back," Brawly says.
"I'll have to do something else," Mew says.
Brawly says, "Now, Vital Throw!"
Makuhita managed to hit Wave, stopping its attack, and then slammed it to the ground.
"Wave!" Mew calls out.
"I guess it's about time that I make the first move," Brawly says, "Makuhita, Arm Thrust."
Makuhita landed multiple blows with the attack as everyone on the sidelines watched in shock.
Wave soon landed on its back.
"Looks to me like this match is history," Brawly says.
However, Wave began to get back up.
Brawly is surprised, "What?"
Wave soon gets back to its feet.
"Awesome! You've got more endurance than any Pokémon I've ever seen. Pound attack, go!" Mew says.
Brawly then calls out, "Seismic Toss!"
Wave is suddenly grabbed by Makuhita caught it and leaped upward before coming down with a spin.
"Wave! Look out!" Mew cries out.
Brock cries out, "Oh-no!"
Both Makuhita and Wave crashed with a thud, and it seemed that Wave came out when the dust cleared.
"Ma? (Huh?) Makuhita says.
"Huh?" Brawly responds.
Wave start getting up.
"Arlight Wave!" Mew says.
"How's that possible?" Brawly asks, surprised.
"Wow! Look at Wave!" Jen says.
"I can't believe it still wants to battle," May says.
Wave stands straight, ready for more, when Makuhita started to glow.
"What's happening?" Tomo asks.
Makuhita was then enveloped in the glow.
Brawly is amazed, "Whoa! Awesome!"
Makuhita morphed until it bigger than before. The glow faded and revealed a new and bigger Pokémon. A large, bulky humanoid Pokémon that is modeled after a sumo wrestler. It has narrow eyes and rounded ears. On its head is a short, triangular crest. Dark blue hair grows across the tops of its eyes, around the head crest, and extends down its back to form a long ponytail. The upper half of its body is cream-colored, while the lower half is dark blue. Yellow extensions encircle its waist, resembling a skirt. There is a small, orange half-circle marking in the center of its torso just above the skirt. Hariyama has large hands with three fingers and small, two-toed feet. Both its hands and feet are orange.
The pokemon says, "Hariyama."
"Makuhita evolved into a Hariyama," Max says.
"A what?" May asks, and brings out her Pokdex.
Dextette says, "Hariyama, the Arm Thrust Pokémon. A Fighting Type. Hariyama is the evolved form of Makuhita. When tensing its body, it muscles become hard as stone."
Max realizes, "Of course! Makuhita was building up energy in its body all of those times that it got knocked down."
"I wonder what Mew is going to do," Molly says.
"Yeah. Wave is ready to battle and so is Hariyama, and Mew still has Honchkrow from that battle. However, Hariyama looks like one tough Pokemon," Brock says.
Mew calls out, "Wave, are you still up to battle."
"Rai!" (Sure am!) Wave answers with a nod.
"We're ready when you are, Brawly," Mew calls out.
"I like your spirit kid. Hope you're ready to handle the big wave," Brawly says.
"Alright Wave, let's go!" Mew calls out.
Wave charges in for the attack, but Hariyama manages to stop it with one hand, shocking Mew.
Brawly calls out, "Hariyama, Knock Off attack, let's go!"
Hariyama landed the attack, sending Wave rolling into the wall before it hit hard, but Mew mananges to stand on her feet.
"You okay, Wave?" Mew calls out.
Wave nods her head.
Then Brawly calls out, "Now Hariyama, give it your Focus Palm!"
"Quick dodge!" Mew calls out.
Hariyama performs the attack, but Wave is barely able to dodge the attacks as she moves back.
Mew calls out, "Quick Wave! Use Agility to dodge!"
Wave dodges and moves on her tail like a surfboard.
"Man, talk about an awesome Raichu," Brawly says.
Hariyama agrees.
Then Brawly says, "Now, give it Focus Punch!"
Hariyama charges towards Wave.
Mew calls out, "Quick, use Light Screen!"
Waver uses the attack to protect herself, but Hariyama's attack is very strong.
"Wave is stuck!" May says.
"Mew better do something before Wave is finished!" Max says.
Mew calls out, "Wave! Thunder!"
Wave then performs Thunder and it's a very powerful one that pushes Hariyama back.
"Impressive," Brawly says, "Give it more Force Palm!"
"Dodge Wave!" Mew calls out.
Hariyama performs the attack, but Wave dodges as she flies on her tail. Suddenly, Wave ends up taking flight in the air, and dives down and hits Hariyama with full force.
"Woah, look at Wave!" Molly says.
"That's Giga Impact! Wave learned a new move!" Brock says.
"Awesome!" Tomo says.
Hariyama stumbles.
"You okay there?!" Brawly asks.
Hariyama nods to confirm.
"Alright Hariyama, time to give it your Focus Punch!" Brawly says.
Brawly charges for the attack.
"Not this time," Mew says, "Wave, dodge!"
Wave dodges and moves around like she's on the waves. Then mananges to move back.
"Use Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.
Wave performs Quick Attack as fast as she can.
"Hariyama, dodge!" Brawly calls out.
Hariyama does just that.
But then Mew calls out, "Use Thunder with your tail!"
And with that, Wave performs a powerful Thunder attack to her tail. Hariyama tries to attack, but Wave jumps and dodge, and with her tail charged with Thunder, slams it at Hariyama with full force. Soon, Hariyama is knocked out cold.
"Hariyama!" Brawly calls out.
And it reveals that Hariyama can't battle longer.
The referee announces Hariyama is unable to battle, Raichu wins, the victor in this match is Ashley from Pallet Town!"
"We did it," Mew says.
Wave agrees, but falls on her bottom, showing how exhausted she is.
Mew picks up Wave, "You did great, Wave."
Wave nods in reply.
Brawly walks to Hariyama, "You okay there."
Hariyama sits up, still tired and beaten as it nods.
"You did a great job in this battle," Brawly says.
Mew walks to Brawly, "You were great too, Brawly."
"Thanks. The same can be you, Ashley. You and your Raichu did great," Brawly says.
"Thanks," Mew says.
Sometime later, the group are now at the beach, one to go have some fun, and another so Brawly can give Mew her badge.
"You and your Pokemon were really great and you battle strongly and with a strong level head," Brawly says.
"Thanks," Mew says.
"And for winning the Dewford Gym and for your awesome battle. I present to you the Knuckle Badge," Brawly says and presents the badge.
The Knuckle Badge looks like a blue and orange boxing glove.
"Alright. I got the Knuckle Badge," Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee are happy.
"You did great there, Mew," Max says.
"That was awesome," May replies.
"Now that you've won the battle, I know a great way to celebrate," Brawly says.
And with that, everyone is in their swimsuits and are surfing the waves.
Brawly calls out, "Now, Hariyama, again!"
"Hariyama!" Hariyama says.
Everyone continues surfing or swimming, and Brawly surfing with Hariyama surfing alongside.
"That's the way to do it, Hariyama! Good!" Brawly says.
Hariyama suddenly loses balance, and wipes out.
"You're a lot heavier with all the muscle you got from evolving," Brawly says.
Hariyama grabs its surfboard.
Brawly then says, "Focus. Use the power of the waves to help your legs learn to balance."
"Yama!" (Right!) Hariyama says.
"You and Hariyama really do well on the surfboard.
"Thanks," Brawly says
Then turns to his Pokemon, "Let's take a break. What do you say?"
Hariyama agrees.
Soon, everyone finishes surfing for the time being.
"Still, I'm very impressed by how surfing helps your Pokemon battle. I never thought of that," Mew says.
"Surfing is a really great way for a heavy Pokémon to build up leg strength while gaining an awesome sense of balance at the same time and having a great time while doing it," Brawly says.
"So that explains Hariyama being on a board. It needs the training now that it evolved," Tomo says.
"It makes sense. Despite it just evolved, Hariyama did well out there," Mew says.
"But it also looks like you're having fun too," Molly says.
"Hey, dude, it only looks like it's all fun, but it's still work too," Brawly says and laughs.
"Really?" Jen asks.
"The island's full of nature everywhere you look, the ocean, the mountains, the forest. Seems to me, playing in nature can end up turning into some pretty decent training, huh?" Brawly says.
"Playing in nature becomes training?" May says.
"I get it," Mew says.
Brawly turns to Hariyama, "Hariyama, lets you and I go play some more."
He and Hariyama rush toward the water, ready for more surfing before the others approach him.
"Guess Brawly isn't just having fun when he surfs," Tomo says.
"'Cause he's a gym leader. We should've known that," Max says.
Then Mew says, "You know, I'd like to stick around on Dewford Island and do some training, if you guys wouldn't mind sticking around, too."
"Sure, Mew. That sounds good," Brock says.
"I think it's a great idea, Mew," May says.
"Yeah. I bet this island has tons of rare Pokémon," Max says.
"And May, maybe we can also help you catch more Pokemon," Tomo says.
"Great idea," May says.
"Thanks, guys. Now we're gonna train even harder and have fun at the same time," Mew says.
Mew has won her match and learned more about the different ways of battling with her Pokemon against others. Now, Mew and her friends will have a nice stay at Dewford Island for some training, relaxation, and some fun.
