Chapter 15

Percy Jackson vs Viviane part 1:

Waterfowl Dance

Heimdall screamed from the bottom of his lungs. "THE 4TH ROUND OF RAGNAROK, PERSEUS JACKSON VERSUS VIVIANE STARTS NOW!"

The opaque gray water was uncannily smooth. There wasn't a single ripple breaking through the mirror-like surface. It was as if the lake itself was holding its own breath in fear of disturbing its masters.

Percy Jackson slowly waded through the water, holding his sword raised in front of him and circling counterclockwise around Viviane. Not a single step he made caused the water to break, nor did it splosh or slow him down, instead he seemed to almost cut through it. His eyes were set on the god's champion and didn't break away for a single second.

In contrast, the Lady of the lake appeared to be floating above the water like a divine apparition. Her striking red hair and gold trimmed dress billowed freely around her as if she was already submerged.

She didn't track the Greek demigod with her eyes, instead they stared disinterestedly ahead, two dull gold orbs that looked as shallow and depthless as the water underneath her. But despite this Percy didn't approach. The divine blade Excalibur rested in her right hand, unused but its mere presence was a threat.

It was strangely quiet in the arena. Every other battle before had the sound of footsteps to accompany the duel but this time there was nothing but the serene silence.

Viviane made no attempt to move at all and it became increasingly clear that humanity's champion would be the one to break the ice.

Percy studied his opponent. It was once again a duel and once again with an immortal far above his weight class, nothing new and yet, Viviane seemed distinctly unimpressed with everything. Was it divine overconfidence or something else?

The spectators remained quiet. Two defeats in a row, humanity's champion had to turn the tables somehow, yet the gods wouldn't allow themselves to ease up. Twice they had been close to a loss.

Percy took a deep breath. "This doesn't have to end in bloodshed, if you surrender we'll both walk away alive. I swear on the River Styx."

Viviane reacted as if she hadn't heard the words. Sighing, Percy accepted the outcome.

Now, perpendicular to his opponent, and as far from Excalibur as he could be, Percy lunged forward.

"Perseus Jackson take charge ladies and gentleman!"

The lake exploded behind him, propelling him forward and blocked Viviane's view. He jabbed Riptide forward.

His Celestial Bronze blade clanged with something hard and his assault was stopped dead in its tracks, all the momentum of the charge was absorbed somehow.

The water fell down and revealed Viviane had spun around and had positioned Excalibur in front of her body to block the hit.

"Excalibur!" Heimdall announced proudly, making sure to hang on each syllable just the right amount of time. "Some say that the weapon can predict the future, but people say a lot these days! Whatever it can do, I wouldn't want to be near it!"

Percy backed off immediately and just in time. With a mere flick of her wrist Excalibur swung up and a trail of blue aura followed the same arc, cutting through the air, water and soil.

Not wasting the opening, Percy rolled to her side and in one fluid motion swiped at her unprotected legs. Before the blade could pass and slice up the divine flesh a torrent of water burst up and protected Viviane's side.

"Ragnarok's fourth round starts with a deadly dance! The nimble demigod vs the steadfast Lady of the Lake, who will strike first?"

Percy stepped away and narrowly dodged Excalibur cutting through where he had just been. He took another step and dodged the afterimage the sword projected.

Percy duck under a wide horizontal slash and prepared to thrust his blade forward but again another explosion of water threw off his aim.

He backed off, deciding to take a moment to plan ahead, but for a change Viviane's eyes were locked onto the demigod.

Before he could have another breath Viviane charged towards him, moving across the water like a ghost and lunging her blade forward. It surged with power and a beam of light supercharged the weapon.

Viviane stabbed the air Percy had occupied a split second earlier but he had already rolled out of the way.

Something close to frustration began to rise inside Viviane. She whirled around and spun the blade in a wide arc around her, hoping to catch her target. Excalibur evaporated everything in the sword's striking distance and exploded the water around her.

But no demigod was to be found. She spun around again, unleashing another barrage from Excalibur but it only struck air.

Where had he gone to?

She raised the blade above her head and slammed it down on the lake. The earth shook but there was still no sign of the Greek.

The audience was just as confused as Viviane.

"AND JUST LIKE THAT THE TIDE HAS TURNED. What was once a dance is now a solo as Viviane is missing her dance partner. But where did humanity's champion go?"

After several more failed strikes that only served to waste energy, Viviane lowered Excalibur for a brief second and paused her onslaught. Her eyes began to glow faintly.

Ripples spread outwards around her and began to bloom in all directions, all directions except one. A small smile passed Viviane's lips. "Cheap sorcery?"

With a twist of her fingers she commanded the still water around the Greek to violently retaliate.

Behind her, the lake exploded and a geyster erupted.

Viviane turned and saw the demigod she was looking for. An almost mad grin was on his face. "Mist actually," he said.

Behind him a tidal wave three times the size of her arose and he jumped up.

No longer unrestrained, the wall of water slammed into Viviane and submerged her.

A snap second later and the water split around her, but not before leaving her soaked and her eyes furious.

Not wasting any time, Percy jumped into attack.

The water around the pair was roaring and it only seemed to aggravate Percy's assault. Holding his weapon with two hands he plunged his sword towards Viviane from seemingly all directions.

Each strike was met with an unwavering Excalibur, but its wielder was disoriented and slow.

Riptide hit her in the shoulder, it cut through a piece of her dress and scratched her tigh.

He continued pushing, rushing into each opening eagerly until finally-

Excalibur shone a bright red as it was now being held in the lady's left hand. For a brief second there was bloodlust in Viviane's eyes and then she slammed the blade forward.

And straight through Percy's chest.

A/N I've read all of Percy Jackson and most Arthurian Legends for this chapter. Also I played Dark Souls 1-3, just to get that rolling action right.
